“So, this is a very authentic place. The food is always great, and the atmosphere is just real. It still has a human feel to it because it is local and small, which is why we keep going. Thank so much to the manage (the actual owner), and the staff who brings such a real and loving feel to the eating experience. Food is always amazing...“

“Ended up here accidentally on a layover: Hands down, the best ramen I’ve ever had (springy, slurpy perfection), amazing cocktails (if you like gin the Japanese 75 is a must try!), and whatever the whipped cream, creme brûlée’d banana dessert was tasted like heaven. I even ordered another tonkotsu ramen to go (all the way to Florida) to bring back to my fiancé. They separated all of it, packaged it so it wouldn’t leak, and wrote directions on specific timing for heating up each item! Very impressive service. I’ll be back again!“

“Beautiful atmosphere and delicious food! Came across this place and was not disappointed at all! Super good. Everything was a bit more expensive than my go-to place in Kips Bay but 100% worth it. The ramen was so good. Broth tasted amazing. Everything we got was perfect! Calamari, sushi all great.
I was a big fan of the seating area too. The paper cranes on the ceiling were a cool addition! Staff was also very nice. For a Saturday Lunch, there was no wait.“

“We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Fushimi Restaurant! The food was delicious, from the appetizers we ordered to our main course. Each dish was expertly prepared and bursting with flavor. We also enjoyed a couple of drinks, which perfectly complemented our meal. What truly made our visit exceptional was the incredible service provided by our waitress, Ohmie. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. Her warm demeanor and professionalism truly elevated our dining experience. We strongly recommend Fushimi Restaurant, especially because of the outstanding service we received from Ohmie. We’ll definitely be back!“

“I highly recommend anyone reading this to come try! I wish I could give 10 stars. Make a resy. This was honestly one of the best dining omakase experiences!! But not only was the experience great, so was the food and drinks. Karina was very kind on explaining us the drink options, and finding us the perfect drink we would love. Her and the chef were also super kind on telling us every piece we were eating and where it was from. Alex was also such a great host. Always asking how everything was and also make great small talk, getting to know us. The food was such great quality also so it was well worth the omakase price. I also ordered their special which had Uni-Toro-Wagyu-HotateCaviar. It was DIVINE!!“

“The food was rich and flavorful. Some of the best eel, it was very tender. The sweet potato roll was crunchy and had so much flavor. The broth in the Ramen and Miso soup was not salty like most places and had a taste that complemented the dish.
The crunchy rice roll was the only dish that was average. It smelled much better than it tasted. The tuna and salmon tasted great but the actual fried portion on the rice was overpowering.“

They also have hot food dishes. The prices are so great and what I love about this spot is the service. I highly recommend eating here. There is also a great selection of sake, cocktails and tea!“

“We went on a random weekday and had to wait in line for an hour to get in. But the food, music and atmosphere were all worth the wait. The music was amazing, very old school jazz with lots of improvisation. They have different artists every day so the experience is probably different. The music is not very loud and you can easily have a conversation. The menu is extensive, lots of interesting food and a separate section listing all their vegetarian options.“

“Come here after you've tried a few other omakases in the city so you can appreciate the depth of flavor within the fish. There's so many flavors of “omakase's” nowadays. Some go for volume of fish. Others go for novelty of types of seafood served. And then others make crazy new combos and try to serve you wagyu on uni on caviar on gold flaked foie gras. Here, you can taste what a traditional, Edo style kombu brine over a patient few days can do for sushi. Good rice, intentional preparation. Not flashy, just good. With that said, service was great, but not exceptional.“

“Excellent value for the meal- we have had more expensive omakase that was not as delicious as the Chemistry Room. And the chef even seared my fish because unlike my husband who loves raw sashimi, I prefer the texture of cooked fish. Both the chefs and the servers were very attentive to the guests, asking what was the occasion and bringing out a dessert with candle for one of the guests celebrating a birthday.“

“We had sushi there yesterday and it was truly an amazing experience. The chef was not only highly skilled and professional, but also very funny, which made the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. The sushi and sashimi were incredibly fresh—honestly the freshest and best I’ve ever had. Every bite was full of clean, natural flavor. Highly recommend!“

“The food was generally salty. The first time I went, I ordered the eel rice bowl, but it was so salty that I thought I'd ruined my appetite after enjoying the other appetizers. The staff checked with me and said it was just salty that day. I got free ice cream instead. So today, I went for the hand rolls for the second time, and even the appetizers were a little salty. The hand rolls were delicious. The other dishes were fine, but they were a little salty. It wasn't just me; everyone I went with said the same thing.“

“I had a great experience at Maki Sushi while I was in town for work and happened to stumble in for dinner. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered the Sushi Deluxe, which came with 10 pieces of chef’s-choice sushi and a roll — I went with salmon and avocado. Everything was fresh, well prepared, and thoughtfully put together.
Pete, who is both the sushi chef and the owner, was excellent. We struck up a genuinely good conversation while I was eating, and he was friendly, complimentary, and clearly takes pride in what he does. Sitting at the bar felt welcoming and relaxed — the kind of place where you actually enjoy talking to the person making your food.
One small but really impressive detail stood out: Pete noticed I like a little wasabi with my tuna and offered me fresh wasabi without me even asking. For a sushi spot of this size, having fresh wasabi on hand is always impressive — it’s a great little treat, and usually something you only get if you know to ask. That kind of attentiveness says a lot.
The quality of the fish here is excellent. My favorite bite of the night was the salmon belly — rich, buttery, and delicious. The sushi here is definitely geared toward a more classic and approachable palate. It’s simple, clean, and done well, and the quality of the fish and service really shine.
I’m really glad I found this place and will absolutely come back next time I’m in the area. Thanks for a great experience, Pete — maybe next time I’m in town you’ll have some toro on hand just for me.
Highly recommend.“

“Really delicious and filling. The Berkshire is leagues better than the tender loin, a must get. The aji fired was unbeatably tender and delicious. The prawns were really crispy and goes well with the tartar sauce. Love the mountain of cabbage given, washes away the excess oil from eating so much fried food.“

“An Evening of Class on 38th Street
On a recent Wednesday evening—September 10th at 7 PM—I stepped into a snug little spot on 38th Street to find it buzzing. The room was packed with young professionals, businessmen, and stylish women. My longtime friend Jeff and I blended into the lively crowd.
Full disclosure: I know the chef-owner personally, and this meal was generously hosted by my childhood friend. Still, as always, my words are honest.
The space is intimate, jewel-box small, glowing with dim light—sophisticated yet relaxed. Details matter here: polished silverware, sparkling glassware, a tiny table lamp. These small touches elevate the atmosphere and remind you dining is as much ritual as flavor.
Plates arrived swiftly despite the crowd. The food leaned Franco-Japanese, evoking Morimoto, Nobu, and Masa—an homage rather than imitation.
Two dishes stood out. The chicken thigh yakitori was sublime: grilled to perfection, dusted with sansho and peppercorns, and served on an antique-rimmed plate. Proof that the simplest dishes are often the hardest—and most rewarding. The truffle rice was equally memorable. During my three-week vacation back home in New York City, I’d avoided rice and carbs entirely, but this dish broke my resolve. Fragrant koshihikari, laced with truffle, finished with those irresistible crunchy bottom bits—I polished off the bowl without hesitation.
Cocktails, too, were playful and thoughtful, nodding to Queens and Brooklyn nightlife with green tea spirits and karaoke-inspired twists.
By the end, I marveled at how alive the restaurant felt for a Wednesday night. Packed, vibrant, and delicious. I’ll gladly return on my next trip, and I congratulate the chef-owner: holding one’s own on 38th Street is no small feat—and this place does it with grace and flavor.“

“Chef Vincent is incredible. I went to Omakase OSUKAA yesterday and loved it so much that I came back again today. Every piece of sushi was perfectly balanced, from the toro, uni, and caviar to the creative hand rolls, and you can really taste how fresh the fish is. The pacing, explanation of each course, and warm service made the whole experience feel personal and relaxed rather than rushed. For the quality of the omakase, the price feels very fair, especially in Midtown East. This is easily one of my favorite omakase spots in the city and I will definitely keep coming back.“

“Just finished a really good meal for a neighborhood sushi place. The fish tasted fresh and the temperature was correct. I ordered two types of special fish: sweet shrimp and chu-toro. Both were very good. Also had the Spicy Girl roll. That comes with the shrimp heads that were cooked and delicious. Certainly a good choice for sushi in the neighborhood and I will be back!“

“A must visit every time for me in New York! It’s my 4th visit and I love it every time. Excellent food and service, they were understanding when part of our party was late to the reservation due to travel delays and tried their best to accommodate. They even gave me tea and crackers while waiting for my friends! Gratuity is included in the price (like how they do it in Japan) which is surprisingly refreshing and touching for NYC. The value is unbeatable for omakase and definitely a must try if you like sushi and want to try an authentic and quality omakase experience without breaking the bank.“

“Exceptional service. Saturday night, 10 August, 2026. We are visiting from Australia and had a busy day getting our son organised into his US college. We decided to grab a quick bite to eat on the way back to our hotel. Our food was exceptional, as was the service. Unfortunately, a lady beside us smashed her glass of water onto the floor beside us and it sprayed water and glass over our son’s legs, backpack and under our table. I had to remain standing, as our food came, whilst the staff cleaned up. The lady was so rude, didn’t apologise to the staff (or us!) or say thank you to the staff as they cleaned up after her and refilled her glass of water. Our son’s college paperwork was ruined, as was a passport. We wanted to express on our gratitude to the staff for being so professionals the whole time, for the great food and service also!! We will definitely be back. And I’m sorry that you were treated so poorly by the lady.“
