“2024, the year someone, anyone finally got me to read fiction consistently for an extended period of time. Acknowledgements to @tenanaan for her forever reaching third eye into the souls of readers. She and the staff at @thelitbar always push the envelope to find word seekers' arrangements of pages that defy their norms and push their brains into a separate reality. This morning I completed this work by the great #VictorLavalle . I somewhat read this book out of order after having read #LoneWoman January 20-January 25. I initially had not selected this work out of a group of 7 that Tenaja gave me to choose from. I thought I had already seen this on #AppleTv+. I selected Lone Woman, loved that, only to discover that, in reality, the series I thought I saw was not #The Changeling , it was M. Night Shyamalan's: Servant. The Changeling is a pounding thriller that will keep you guessing incorrectly from beginning to end. It will capture your attention with a rolling villain in all aspects of this real life/scifi/real life saga. Who is the bad guy/bad girl? Who should be arrested, hung, or given the Presidential Medal of Freedom? The question is: Who will make it? Is making it even an option? What is a win? Does "Happily ever after exist? It's worth stopping at The Lit. Bar to visit, read, drink, buy books that typical book sellers aren't selling. There is nothing in the world like being introduced to a world that has coexisted in the world you live in, without knowing it was there the whole damn time. Plan a trip to The Bronx, if you are already in the Bronx, make it your destination for new reading interest and a great reading vibe.“

“I adore this place. I have ordered the margarita pizza with broccoli for delivery many times, and it's probably the best pizza I have found in the Bronx. Wood-fired, soft yet grilled crust, fresh mozzarella, really good tomato sauce, and generous with the toppings. Dining in is also a great experience -- it's warm and homey inside, and you feel like you have left the grind of daily life and are settling in for a festive, really good meal. Doesn't feel like an Americanized Italian restaurant but rather a small pocket of Italy in the Bronx. As for the rest of the menu, top notch Caesar salad, really good banana bread pudding, scallop/lentil appetizer is good but best to share because it can be a lot of the same flavor and filling for an appetizer. Must try place in the Bronx!“

“This place is amazing. The food and drinks are amazing. The best part about this place is the bartender/ waitress Michelle. She always gives great service no matter if she tending bar or doing her waitress Job. Last night March 1 she went above and beyond her job. She was doing double duties with a packed bar. As soon as we sat at our table she gave us our beers and menu. And despite how busy it was we got our food super fast. And our beers were never empty. Not only does it serve up some of the most delicious and authentic Mexican cuisine I've had the pleasure of tasting, but it also pairs this culinary excellence with truly outstanding service. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between welcoming familiarity and a lively, fun atmosphere that's hard to find elsewhere. Tequila & Mezcal Bar • $$$
1290 Westchester Ave, Bronx

“Tequila & Mezcal is a laid back and stylish lounge perfect for enjoying an impressive selection of top quality tequilas and mezcals in a vintage industrial ambiance. Located in an unconventional space within an industrial strip mall on Westchester Avenue, it comes as a pleasant surprise. The decor blends recycled materials and classic signs with comfy booths and chairs upholstered in black and cream leather for a fashionable yet tranquil vibe. String lights wrap delicately around decorative rafters that lend openness and height to the room while keeping the atmosphere intimate.Staff are exceedingly friendly and knowledgeable about the wide range of drinks on offer. The cocktail menu creatively highlights tequila and mezcal from across Mexico in tasty concoctions alongside classic margaritas and palomas. The extensive spirit selection features rare artisanal varietals to more common brands, priced reasonably for the quality level. There are also many craft beers, wines and non-alcoholic drink options to please all tastes.Food options are limited but thoughtfully prepared with high quality ingredients. Appetizers include ceviches and quesadillas as well as shared plates like short rib empanadas and spicy chicken wings.Overall, Tequila & Mezcal provides a convivial spot to unwind over exceptional tequilas and mezcals thoughtfully paired with modern Mexican cuisine in a gently industrial space that belies its unique and discoverable location. It's a welcome addition to Bronx's growing food and drink scene.“

“It's October and you know what that means..... OKTOBERFEST!!This German girl loves her German food and takes full advantage this time of year! I saw an ad in the Bronx Times for P.J Bradys with a special Oktoberfest menu that had me salivating and I had to go!This place is a neighborhood restaurant and bar established in 1998 and is a local favorite. Their windows are all painted for fall with a colorful autumn theme and you hear the laughter and singing from the street! The atmosphere was very cool with a fun group at the bar singing all my favorite songs from Mama Mia and the 70's-80's. Our server Katherine was great and took very good care of us from beginning to end with accommodating special requests and suggestions. I like my Oktoberfest beer this time of year and they had a great one by Shipyard called Pumpkin head, they kindly rimmed a glass with honey and cinnamon and I was happy. We started out ordering their popular chicken wings with Blue cheese and ranch dip which were very good! My Oktoberfest special of Jager schnitzel came with red cabbage and Spätzle but I traded the Spätzle for the potato pancakes with apple sauce which was no problem. It also came with a home style chicken and veggie soup that was like moms with tons of chunks of chicken and savory soup. My german cuisine was a huge platter of food that was excellent! It brought me back to my childhood! We also ordered a roast beef with cheese on a roll which was so good with just right crispy French fries! I was going to order their pumpkin cheesecake but they were out due to its popularity, so I will have to go back again! Stop in this month to enjoy a full Oktoberfest menu including pot roast, Hungarian beef goulash, Wienerschnitzel, Jager schnitzel, bratwurst and more! Special shout out to my friend who works there too, Katie Angel!“
