“Shady spot. They will add a service charge/tip without telling you. My bill was $105 and when they ran my card it was $117.50 I could tell from the phone app from my bank. My friend was visibly drunk and they were still giving him drinks and running up the tab.

“The Snug and City Island Diner are true local treasures. They’re owned by the same wonderful people and share a kitchen, but each has its own vibe and hours — and together they’re unbeatable.

The fully loaded chili here is hands-down the best I’ve ever had. It’s rich, hearty, perfectly seasoned, and also shows up in their nachos, which makes them next-level comfort food.

One of my favorite things? They have a secret menu (no longer advertised) with specialty grilled cheese sandwiches and specialty hot dogs — and we absolutely love it. The Tuscan Melt (no onion) is perfection, and the Reuben Dog is unforgettable. With the hot dogs you get two, and you can mix and match styles, which is such a fun and generous touch.

At The Snug, my go-to drink is a black & tan, which pairs perfectly with the cozy, neighborhood pub feel. Over at the diner, my favorite dish is the Corned Beef Hash breakfast — classic, satisfying, and done exactly right.

Beyond the food, what really sets these places apart is the people. Every server is genuinely kind, welcoming, and deeply plugged into the City Island community. You feel like a regular even on your first visit.

“Every time we’ve ordered from here the food is fresh, delicious and you can tell how much work they put into making such quality food. Every single time we’ve ordered they have yet to disappoint. Our favorite is the Birria Torta. You can tell that a different person makes it each time but oh my god it’s amazing. And their aguas frascas are to die for. We’ve tried a different variety of foods from across the Bronx but they are 100% top tier.“

It makes you feel connected which makes this a unique book shop. It’s a chilled spot where you can read and purchase books. The environment is calm. Employees are nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. “I went there on a whim on a Tuesday and had a great time. Although it was fairly empty the bartender (EDDIE) WAS A BLAST!!! He made my visit there worth it. Not only did he make sure we were very well taken care of he let me sing lol karaoke Tuesday! The crowd that came in afterwards was fun. We all sang together, they bought me bday shots and even sang me happy bday. I love when complete strangers come together and just enjoy the night! Will definitely visit again THANKS EDDIE!!“

The Dj last night was good, made me dance all night. Surly is recommended for adults only. I was very disappointed that is CASH ONLY Place. Make sure y'all have lots of CASH with you, there is an ATM INSIDE with a $4.85-ish fee every transaction. Keep in mind that after 10pm they charge entrance, have your ID'S ready and they do body check, and leave your coat with a fee.In overall my experience was great.“
