“The food was great. Ended up here last minute, couldn’t find anywhere open and this place didn’t disappoint. I would eat here again the chef knows his flavors not heavy on anything just perfectly seasoned. Also I have to mention, was confused why no one would come to the table but there is a button on the table that’s labeled press for staff, it should say press to order“

“I’ve tried this restaurant a couple of times so far. Raw foods, especially crab and shrimp, is not to everyone’s liking, and two people I was with only had the cooked foods as raw shellfish is a health risk for anyone who can’t take the risk (eg pregnant or with autoimmune deficiencies). I didn’t like the spicy crab, just too much spice/sauce overtaking the crab itself. I love the soy marinade though, it’s light yet flavorful. I am really getting accustomed to the texture of the raw crab so I intend to return again. I would love to try the salmon bowl. Staff is friendly and accommodating, I had to change the amount of people for my reservation once at arrival and they accommodated me without a huff or puff.“

“Dining at Meju was a tremendously memorable, phenomenal experience. The food pays homage to more traditional Korean cooking and fermentation while still reflecting the chef's unique touch. What surprised me the most, however, was what I can only describe as refined comfort. I found myself thoroughly enjoying both the comforting food and ambience throughout the evening. Each course was excellent, and Chef Hooni Kim's passion is clear (both in his food and in his explanations). He appeared happy to answer any questions regarding the food or Korean fermentation. This kind of experience, even in somewhere as diverse as NYC, is rare and special.
And yes, this meal left me feeling healthier but also happier the next day. Thank you for a great time!“

“Ordered takeout from Don Chicken on Northern Blvd and went for the Spicy Soy Garlic Chicken and it did not disappoint. The pieces were pretty big, juicy inside, and had that trademark Korean fried chicken crunch: thin, shatter-crispy, never greasy. The soy garlic glaze was spot on savory, garlicky, with just enough kick to keep me reaching for another bite.
I also tried the Sweet & Spicy flavor not bad at all, just leaned sweeter than what I usually like.
What I really appreciate is how Korean fried chicken is different from the fried chicken most of us grew up with. Instead of a thick, heavy batter, it’s double-fried a method that actually came about in Korea in the 1960s and 70s when fried chicken started getting popular alongside beer (“chimaek,” short for chicken + maekju/beer, is now a whole culture). That double fry gives you the crunch without the grease, and the sauces like this soy garlic add layered flavor instead of just salt and breading.
For takeout, it traveled well too the chicken stayed crisp even by the time I got home, which tells you they’re doing it right. Generous portions, bold flavor, and that authentic K-fried crispness make the spicy soy garlic the clear winner for me.“

“Fairly new KBBQ spot that specializes in grilled duck. The meat is super fresh and all the side dishes are really tasty, as well as the Makguksu. They are a little understaffed so service is not the quickest but it seems like they just opened so they'll figure it out. Give it a try - Duck BBQ is the holy grail of KBBQ there is no going back!“

“This is my go to place, food is excellent, I tried multiple things on the menu and they're all great. I mostly do take out. I would love to eat in but this place is like a hole in the wall small. Place itself is very clean, cute and cozy, it just that it is really small so there are like maybe 3 tables, so you would have to be lucky to walk in when it's slow so you can get a table.“

“Food was very good! Portions were bigger than expected. The dumplings had thin wrappers and a crispy crunch. I very much enjoyed them. The Bimbimbap was flavorful. The Burger Steaks were a bit sweet which was unexpected, but yummy. The cold pasta salad was very refreshing, slightly sweet and had a good balance of all the flavors and veggies. I'm not a fan of cold macaroni salad, but this one was so tasty. The fish cake had a nice soy sauce brine. I have never had a fish cake with that depth of flavor in it. The kimchi had a good crunch. All of the foods balanced each other out and I left with a satisfied palate.
The restaurant plays soft music and it felt very much relaxing. Service was very good. They were very kind and had great smiles. They were very sweet. Made me feel welcomed. I'd come back here and try more foods!“

“KAL Korean Food in Astoria is a great spot if you’re looking for solid Korean food at a really good value. They have a lunch special before 4 p.m. that’s only $15, which is honestly hard to beat for the amount of food you get. The portion sizes are very large, so you definitely won’t leave hungry.
We tried the tofu appetizer and it was surprisingly crunchy on the outside and very flavorful easily a standout. Everything came out fresh and satisfying. Overall, this is a spot I’d highly recommend, especially for lunch if you’re in the area.“

“A little hole-in-the wall Korean joint near the 7 train/LIRR stop in Woodside Queens. I stop there a couple of times a week after work to pickup dinner. There aren’t any sit-down tables, but the food more than makes up for it. The classic Korean dishes are delicious and satisfying. I love how generous they are with the veggies. Everything is fresh and homemade. The people here are always so kind and welcoming too. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic, no-frills, tasty Korean food!“

“This is a casual restaurant with plenty of seating options for small groups. There seemed to be two people working when I went- one cook and one host. The host was kind, though sat behind a tall table that kept him out of view. I saw another customer raising their hand trying to get his attention to no avail. Seems best to go directly to the host if you need anything.
We ordered the tteokbokki with mozzarella, seafood soft tofu soup, seafood pancake, and bibimbap, though not all pictured. Out of everything, the soft tofu soup had the perfect kick to it without being too spicy. (Note: I do not handle spicy well). The tteokbokki was very mild, even without the mozzarella.“

“GOD. I love going here.. whenever I crave corn dogs I think of this place specifically. In fact, I come here so much that I believe the owner (?), a really sweet granny started to recognize me and my exact same order every time😭 I often come here after school and because it’s currently summer i haven’t been going, and when she did see me she asked how I was! I literally love this place and her😭😭❤️ (The day that this place closes down, is the day of my funeral.)“

“TLDR: If you're looking for that local hole in the wall - this is a great spot. Stick with the soups and definitely get that spicy pork bulgogi aka jaeyuk bokkeum.
It's tiny and it's a husband/wife team, so if you're trying to be in/out; not the place for that. I've been back twice and I loved it both times.
The dakgaejang (spicy chicken soup) was one of my favorite things. The broth is very flavorful and there's a lot of spice in it. They have some more traditional soups like the black goat or loach. So if you're in a soup and rice mood, this will hit.
Definitely get the jaeyuk bokkeum. The way they slice the pork here and stir-fry it with the larger onion dice - it's very unique and just so good.
NYC needs more places like this. I will return again for sure and try some of the other items on the menu.“

“I’ve brought several different groups of friends here, and everyone has enjoyed the experience of eating KBBQ around the round table centered with a bronze/metal grill. Definitely try their gold noodles served in an ice bowl. Everything we’ve had has been excellent, and ending the meal with the kimchi fried rice is a must.“

“Great mom and pop Korean restaurant. Always feels like home when I step in. They give great variety of Bonchon and I absolutely love their naengmyeon. Perfect soup base and noodles with the right bounce every time. The aunties who run the restaurant are so incredibly nice too. Been coming here for years and its never missed“

“I've been coming here with my mom since I was a little kid and I'm amazed at how consistent their taste has been for the past 20+ years. Every time I'm in the area, I always make sure to stop by and grab a roll of the 매운 참치김밥 (spicy tuna kimbap). Such a hardworking family run business that deserves all the support. A true staple of Flushing- an OG spot!“

“Been here a few times, the first time being over a year ago. Arguably, my first time here was excellent: food was tasty, service was good and they took care of my small group at the time. Over the next few visits, however, the meats didn't taste as good (later learned they changed the sauce) and service wasn't that great either. I heard the management changed a few months back and came here with my family again (for mother's Day). The food was good, though how the meat gets cooked totally depends on the staff. Side dishes are on the traditional side but I found them to be tasty.
The service can be a bit slow, especially when they're busy and you do need to ask for things here and there instead of the staff being super proactive about taking care of you (like asking for water). Personally, as long as the food is tasty, lower levels of service don't bother me that much. My mom enjoys eating here so I'll come back for sure, probably on a less busy day too. I could see this place being a bit difficult for non-korean parties eating here though but the staff does speak some English so it's not like you can't get by.“

“This was one of my favorite Korean restaurants 10 years ago when I lived in the area. My grandfather used to always say that this restaurant reminded him of his hometown. Came back yesterday and it did not disappoint. Extremely friendly staff and the flavors are so authentic. My wife was so impressed and we had such a great experience. I highly recommend this place 🙂
For the folks complaining that you need to order at least two meats - it's because it takes extra effort for a waiter to serve, clean the grill, and bring out the banchans. Absolutely worth it though.“

“Dine-in with my friend , and got the following, squid combo with kimchi beef tofu with white rice (served in a metal bowl), seafood pancake, Japchae, and egg stew. I am currently overfill and really enjoy the japchae, the cucumber banchae, and the egg stew. All the wasn’t too salty and to me was delicious as it hold the food taste, maybe I was hungry and was looking for something hot and warm.“

“We ate here for the 1st time and ordered seafood soup and fried tofu. The food is very tasty with rich ingredients and big portions. The restaurant is clean and nice. The service is great! It’s a bit pricey but we will definitely come back !“
“Brand new. When I walked in, they informed me they just opened the day prior. They even had trouble navigating some of the prices on the register, but overall, were very helpful and nice. They have an area just for side dishes, and some main dishes in the middle. When I came, they were still cooking, so the ideal time to go is around 12:30 - 1:00 to see what they have to offer.“

“Posting review while enjoying the food. This place is amazing. Freshly-made kimbap, generous portions for an amazing price, and excellent miso soup. Really had mom and pop shop feel with actual Koreans running it (not that that should matter per se). Everyone behind the counter was so sweet, too. We had the vegetarian and mushroom kimbaps (latter has fish cake) to meet the $10 minimum for paying by credit card, both were very satisfying.
For the price and quality and just the feel of supporting a local shop, I definitely want to come back often.“

“I’ve ordered the marinated crabs multiple times with no issues. Sometimes there is a lot of roe, sometimes there isn’t, it just depends on the season.
The flavoring is not too fishy, or salty. Perfect when eaten with rice!“

“I’ve been patronizing this resistance their inception. And it has been solid and consistent. You won’t regret your visit here and your craving for sashimi will be satisfied.
There are other restaurants who can ‘outperform’ Dokdoya with the sashimi’s quality, selection and presentation. But their side dishes are one of the best in the tristate. And their complimentary soups are always superb.“

“I have been to a lot of Korean BBQ place, but this one is special for me for 2 reasons:
1- I’m with my Korean friends, who can teach me how to eat like Korean.
2- the special leaves is really for my liking.
Good sake bomb, friends and good laughs, with cold noodles and mustard to finish off the meal, a great experience!“

“This has been a pleasant experience and we were welcomed and taken care of by the staffs in here.
Good
The food is nice, meat is fresh and not too strong. The soup and banchan all have authentic korean taste
They offer free refill banchan and rice so its nice and filling enough if you are heavy eater. All side dishes are not bad so why not?
The servers are nicely taken care of us, help us with grilling, and also always update with us about the meat and everything.
Bad
The staff tried to upsell us the more expensive combo but we didn’t really need it. Have to verbally decline twice is kinda awkward.
The price is high for sure, but you can’t ask cheaper for such performance - because they truly invested in the food and services. Just say that its not for every day visit for low income .
Just visit here for special occasion, when you want to be treated nicely and eat good food. I hope the business will be there always.“
