“I highly, HIGHLY recommend this place. Everything was so good.

First off, there’s plenty of parking in front and to the side of the restaurant (although the side parking may be for the liquor store next door). The spots are wide and could accommodate the huge SUV we rented.

Our waitress, Selin, was superb. She was attentive and remembered our entire order, without needing to write anything down!

We were a party of 4 with 3 dogs. We made a reservation for the patio because we had our dogs with us. We were seated at a corner table on the patio, which gave our dogs more space to roam while leashed and tethered to us.

It was pretty hot and humid outside (we came here on November 7, 2024 at 1PM). There were lots of flies and mosquitos around. Thankfully, halfway through the meal, the waitress put out a mini fan on our table to keep the insects away from our food.

For appetizers, we got:
Striped Bass Crudo - the fish was fresh and flavor was great. A bit too tart for my liking, but still very good. My partner said this was the best, but he usually really likes very sour and tart foods.
Burrata - very delicious. Had the right amount of sweetness from the glaze and great textural contrast with the nuts.
Deviled Eggs - my favorite appetizer! The truffles really put this dish up there. Usually I find truffles gimmicky, but they worked really well here.
Potato Chips (with cheese) - my least favorite appetizer. The chips were good but the dip tasted too much like cottage cheese for my liking.
Fried Shrimp - this was SO GOOD! The shrimp were huge and cooked well. Not too much breading either. The accompanying sauce was good too.

For our mains, we got:
Fried Chicken Sammie - this was really good. The chicken was very crispy and moist and tender on the inside. The slaw on it wasn’t overpowering. And the accompanying sauce was good.
Steak Sammie - I did not get to try this, but my friend said it was ok.
Farro Bowl - This was the best dish we got. The salmon was perfectly cooked: flaky with a crispy skin. The faro was also a good textural and flavor contrast.
Plancha Burger (protein style, buns on side) - At first, this looked mid (you can see in my photos). But, when I dug into the patty, the meat had such a good texture to it. And the flavor was amazing! I could tell that it wasn’t just a regular old frozen patty from the grocery store. The pickles and onions were also subtly tart and sweet, which I really liked.

Our friend originally booked a brunch reservation here so she could try the birthday cake dessert, but the waitress said that’s only served during dinner. We didn’t blame her because they close up at 2PM for brunch, and it was already 2:15PM by the time we finished our entrees and asked about dessert. However, our waitress was so amazing!! She asked the chef and they said they could prepare the dessert for us because it was my partner’s birthday. So, she brought it out with lit candles and added it to our bill (she gave us a new one because she already printed out our bill).

The price was fair for what you’re getting. Things ranged from $12-$22.

Overall, the food was phenomenal and the service was amazing. I highly recommend coming here when you’re in Austin!

Parking: There are 10 or so spots in front and maybe 8 spots on the side (though the ones on the side may be for the liquor store next door).“

“A true Austin experience and the best staff, in total, that I have encountered in a long time. The staff and the retro setting set a really unique vibe in the restaurant. Food was very good with the spanish octopus and the rib eye being the highlights. Good, well selected wine list (even if markup is a little high) and a great bar program (Secret Beach on tap at a restaurant....thought I was dreaming).

Chelsea (Manager) was patient with my indoor / outdoor table change requests, despite being a very busy night. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive but not disruptive, and just plain cool....in fact I would say that about all of the serving staff.

Overall one of my best fine dining experiences in Austin. BTW, the outside patio is perfect.“

Salt & Time Butcher Shop and Restaurant New American • $$
1912 E 7th St Suite A, Austin

“Our recent experience at Salt and Time Butcher Restaurant was a memorable one, albeit with some ups and downs. We were excited to explore their offerings, especially their biodynamic wine selection, but our visit had its share of challenges with the service.

Upon asking about biodynamic wines, our waiter, Michael, seemed a bit uncertain and there was some confusion when we discussed pesticides. Despite his efforts, which we appreciated, he initially indicated they didn't carry biodynamic wines, only to later suggest that all their wines were biodynamic. This inconsistency was surprising for a restaurant of their caliber.

As the evening progressed, there were a few lapses in service. Despite Michael's enthusiasm when discussing his favorite rooftop wine from Italy, he unfortunately forgot to bring the wine we ordered and later the frites that accompanied our steak. It took a couple of reminders before we received them, and there was a mix-up in timing despite his assurances.

However, despite these minor hiccups, the meal itself was exceptional. The steak was cooked to perfection and the salad was fresh and delicious. Once we finally received them, the frites were outstanding and complemented the meal wonderfully. The wine, when it arrived, was polished and enhanced our dining experience.

Towards the end of the evening, Michael apologized sincerely, acknowledging that he was a bit distracted, and graciously offered the frites and wine "on him." His unique farewell, thanking us as "astronauts jackolopes" and recommending the "wine bible," added a memorable touch to our visit.

It's regrettable to hear that Salt and Time Butcher Restaurant will be closing soon. Despite the service challenges, the quality of the food, particularly the exceptional steak frites, will remain a highlight of our dining experiences.“

For date nights, we usually sit at the bar. The wine list is nicely curated, and the bartender’s recommendations are great. I didn’t think Texas had good wine until I came here.

When we have out-of-town guests, this is a great spot for a local Texas food experience. We love the focus on quality ingredients and wild game. The lard and sourdough are teriffic.

Brunch is also fantastic and worth checking out.“

“Visited Austin once again and came across this highly recommended hidden gem, lovely intimate ambiance.

The menu is truly creative, with mouthwatering seasonal flavors that did not disappoint!

We started with the PSC Old Fashioned, which was absolutely spot on—thank you!
Here’s what we ordered:
Adagio Salumeria Fiocco: Served with perfectly flavored figs.
Ouefs Mayonnaise: The mayo had a perfect hint of garlic and was beautifully seasoned.
Zucchini Fritti: My absolute favorite! The green mint dipping sauce was a delightful pairing.
Butterscotch Squash: A standout dish—perfectly cooked and served with roasted fall nuts and butter. Truly heartwarming!
Grilled Eggplant Salad: I have a weakness for eggplant, and this dish hit the spot. The peppers and light vinegar paired wonderfully with the delicious bread.
Blistered Habanada Peppers: These were a perfect complement to everything.
Oyster Mushroom Pizza: Wow! This was absolutely amazing—definitely a must-try!
Sausage and Shishito Pizza: A hit with the boys. The tomato sauce was perfection.
Pork Schnitzel: Expertly breaded and seasoned, with mustard that was the perfect accompaniment.
Finally, for dessert, we enjoyed the seasonal Crostata with olive oil ice cream and sea salt—a perfect ending to an incredible meal.
Thank you, Chef Chelsea Fadda, for such a wonderful experience!“

I have not been to a restaurant in a long time where I truly felt it was a unique culinary experience and you can really feel how much love the chef is pouring into each entree. Worth every penny.

Be aware that this is modern Asian food integrated with Austin flavors. If you want something traditional, this might not be for you. But, take it from me, you should give it a try with an open mind. “I want to give a shout out to a wonderful new restaurant here in South Austin, specifically the Brodie/Slaughter area. It's called The Local, and it's a delight. The decor is warm and inviting--no chrome or glass and no tvs blaring sports. We were pleased to see that the place was busy at 7 on a Tuesday, it's such a welcoming sound. The food was perfectly prepared and artfully presented, simple, no frufru. The service was terrific, sharp, prompt and helpful. We met the owner and were delighted to learn that this is not part of a chain or even a 'group' as they call them now, but a single family operation. We'd love to see them succeed, if only for the slightly selfish reason that it's nice to go to a good restaurant without having to drive a long way. It's just a few minutes down the street and you may be sure we'll be going back. We need more of these kinds of joints down here. Fair warning, it's not cheap, but then what is these days?“

“We are visiting from out of town and Holden was the best server we could have asked for. I am gluten free and he made sure I knew all my options and explained every dish to me. He helped us celebrate our anniversary and made the whole experience top tier. If you’re in Austin, definitely check out Nido and ask for Holden!“

“Beautiful space. Very trendy but not off putting. Prices were Austin high but what you would expect for the place. Creative and tasty dishes that were easily shareable. Great service.

Parking: It's in the hotel so used their valet which was super reasonable. $15 downtown in a weekend.“

“Found this great spot in Lakeway Texas by luck. I had a Southern Burger and a Steak Wedge salad. The waitress then told me that first time visitors get a sample of their chocolate cake. It was perfect! Waitress told me all about the history of the establishment and why they call it the League (I won’t ruin it for you). Good food, good people… give them a try.“
