“Absolutely delicious, the raw oysters were spectacular and we both LOVED the cesar salad. The sardines and oysters were both not fishy at all, delicious, fresh, and smooth tasting. The cesar salad comes with toasted breadcrumbs and is absolutely marvelous. The beef tartar is also delicious, the texture is wonderful and the cheese is super complementary.

Not a food buff at all, but go here!“

“We celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at Mongers last night. We tried six different items on the menu. All were perfectly cooked, tasted exquisite, and were beautifully presented.

We tried both of the soups on the menu. Of the two, we liked the Seafood Chowder best. The other choice was a Crab and Shrimp Gumbo. Generous different kinds of seafood in each dish.

We also had the Blue Crab Cake and Burrata dishes. The latter did not have tomatoes with the cheese, which it is traditionally paired with, instead arugula and a fig marmalade accompanied it. The crab cake was stuffed with crab and very little filler (which is the mark of a good cake). Served with a smoked tomato aioli.

Finally, we sampled the daily crudo (tuna) and daily ceviche (scallops). They were the stars of the meal. Both so delicate and presented wonderfully, but also they tasted the best.

Service was excellent, attentive but not overwhelming. Paired dinner with a French Sauvignon Blanc. We were treated to dessert to celebrate. A nice touch to an amazing meal. Thank you!“

We have been coming here for years and the tourists that feel it’s a “tourist trap” need to understand what type of restaurant they are walking into- local, great food, service and family owned. Knockout martini is amazing, Bob Armstrong dip is unbeatable. The burritos and beef fajitas are the best by far. Normally, I’ll have my normal server and her husband help us however, last night they were off so # Thomas was our server for the evening and was absolutely amazing. We had great drinks. “In the land of bbq KG stands out like a shining star! We watched Kareem on Bbq showdown and knew we had to go when we realized he was in Austin. We thought it’d be good but it was truly outstanding! We ordered all but 2 meats (my husband forgot the sausage, I was not happy!) everything was amazing, but the standouts were the chicken kabobs, the pomegranate pork ribs and the lamb chop (not usually a lamb fan). The chicken thighs were so moist and flavorful! The flavors of the pom pork rib were so rich and complex and truly unique. The true surprise for both of us was the lamb chop; tender, juicy and full of savory flavor. Rounding out our meal was the Egyptian Mac and cheese which had there not been so much delicious meat would have been a top fave, creamy shells with a garlic tomato béchamel with just the right amount of nutmeg. For dessert we tried the rice pudding with crumbles pistachios and hulava on top, something I hated in childhood. The cool, creamy rice pudding had a subtle cardamom flavor and cooled off the mouth after so much Egyptian flavor! Outstanding!!!“

My personal favorite was the “Dean’s Style” entree; 8 oz. filet, lobster claw, truffle béarnaise, bordelaise. The steak was cooked to perfection. They also offer A-5 Japanese wagyu if looking for that.“

“Overall, we had a good lunch experience at Plank. Service was friendly, and the star of the show is the upscale casual environment and design. The food selection is New American seafood with Asian notes.

Good: Our favorite dish was their Thai chowder. The miso crunch salad was executed fine and is similar to CPK's Thai crunch salad. Price point for lunch specials is also reasonable given location and quantity.

Okay: The calamari was okay, but also includes fried vegetables mixed throughout when we were only expecting all calamari. The batter also did not adhere very well, so there was a pile of fried batter left on the dish at the end.

Could use work: (1) Sushi rolls. It feels like they may be trying to cover too many different types of food and not to the best quality. For example, I'm not sure that maki should be offered on their menu if they're going to offer basically a fast food version. The rice comes out of an automatic machine, flattened in a perfect rectangle, and isn't seasoned like it would be at a Japanese restaurant. The combination of fish/toppings was fine, but it was executed like a grocery store roll. (2) Carbs. Fries were also mid, feeling very similar to McDonald's. The top bread on the po-boy was severely hard and inedible -- perhaps it sat under a heat lamp for too long? -- so we abandoned it and only ate the inside. (3) Fruit flies. Very unfortunate, but about 4 fruit flies decided to make our table their home base. It was easy to shoo them away, much easier than regular flies, but it did detract from the dining experience. Maybe from all the potted poinsettias?

If I need a place to eat at in this part of the Domain in the future, I would be ok with coming back to Plank, and trying something different next time that hopefully is more up their alley. The group room in the back also looks nice if I needed a place for a group of 16. But if I wanted seafood in this price range and wasn't constrained to location, I would probably go to Salt Traders instead.“

This is premium AYCE hot pot at non-premium prices. The dinner meat menu was pretty standard, but the Buffet was extraordinary as it has so many premium seafood and vegetarian item. The flavor depth was unbelievable, and the heat from their inhouse salsa was at that perfect level where it hurts but you can't stop. The quality of the fish was amazing. Portions were very generous, and with each item that we ordered, we were reminded that the menu begs for further exploration. And the staff could not have been more friendly or accommodating! What made a simple night into something extraordinary and awesome was the donning experience.

She greeted us with a warming smile and guided us through the cocktail menu. Recommending a a take on a penicillin which is my favorite go to, was served up not on the rocks and tasted amazing. She engaged great conversation with us that just felt real and genuine. She brought a piece of back home with the experience she brought to the table. Looking forward to the full dinner adventure for next time.

Ron, our waiter, was very pleasant, patient, attentive, and funny.. it was our first time, and he answered all of our questions, never making us feel rushed at all..

One thing I did notice while we were waiting upfront for our table was: there were 3 gentlemen wanting to dine in and one was wearing a basketball jersey.. instead of turning them away.. the nice lady upfront told them to hang on, she'll be right back.. she came back with a jacket to give the young man, so they all can come in to dine.. that is going above and beyond!!
