Gary's

Gary's French • $$
1485 W 12th Ave, Vancouver

“A phenomenal meal at Gary’s! They were kind enough to accommodate a walk-in and offered me half portions of their set menu (for a solo diner; set menu typically offered to tables of 2+ diners). Priced at $73 it’s an absolute bargain! Very generous and includes 2 snacks, a salad, a starter, 2 mains and a dessert. The menu is concise and very European, think elevated bistro food executed to the highest degree. Every dish was delicious and well thought out, not a single bad dish on the menu.

The room is bright and airy during the day and romantic dim lit in the evening, and the open kitchen is a joy to watch. The service is impeccable and warm without being stuffy and pretentious.

Truly well-deserved Michelin recognition, by far the best Bib Gourmand-awarded restaurant in the city, and honestly offers a dining experience that is far superior to most one star restaurants. Will definitely be back!“

“Went here for Dine Out Can. The tuna starter and trout main (as well as the pudding dessert I was too impatient to photograph) were all phenomenal. Highly recommend adding a baked oyster to start. The cocktail list was amazing. I can’t wait to go back to try other dishes. Next time I will request a seat in the back room rather than on the loft for more ambiance. Service staff were top notch. Thx for a lovely experience.“

“This restaurant is such a gem! The atmosphere is cozy and intimate and the service is genuinely warm and attentive. We went there to celebrate my birthday and they went the extra mile by surprising us with a small ice-cream “cake” and even taking a Polaroid photo for us, such a thoughtful act that made the night extra special.

The food was flawless. Though the menu isn’t large, every dish is clearly crafted with care and intention.
The sablefish was a standout. It melted in the mouth yet still held its structure beautifully without being soggy. Every vegetable on the plate was cooked perfectly, no filler or mediocre sides. All details are well executed.
Portions were very well calculated too, filling without being overwhelming.

We absolutely will come back.“

“Argo Burger topped with bacon, cheese, fried onions and egg is served alongside a mound of fries. Delicious, whether eaten hot or cold. Fried chicken burger is one of the best in town. Fish and chips came with equal amounts of both, which translates into lots. Creamy Chicken chili con queso and heaping plateful of Spicy lamb on their respective beds of rice were stick-to-your-bones good. Then there's the home-baked pie and the OMG butter tart! If you're searching for comfort food with a serving of easy hospitality, this old-school Mount Pleasant diner is where you'll find it. #EastVanLoveRules“

“We had a wonderful dining experience at Croquette Brasserie. Our waiter was both helpful and charming, adding a personal touch to the evening. We started with the moules-frites, sharing the mussels and fries as an appetizer. The dish was outstanding—perfectly cooked mussels paired with crisp, golden fries. For our main course, we chose pasta sourced from their sister restaurant, Fiore Famiglia, which happens to be our long-time favorite neighborhood Italian spot. As expected, the pasta was impeccable, showcasing the quality and flavors we’ve come to love. A special highlight was the crème brûlée, torched at our table by the waiter. Watching the caramelized sugar form into a crackling, golden crust was such a treat, and the result was as delicious as it was entertaining. The ambiance was made even better by live music from "Van Django," an incredible violin and guitar duo. Their lively and romantic performance elevated the evening to something truly magical. Croquette Brasserie is a gem we can’t wait to visit again!“

“I've been going to Bâtard for several years -- my favourite bakery in town and worth the 15 minute drive. Great bread & scones, pastry to die for, and wonderful atmosphere for a lunch. “The decoration is 5 stars the food is ok they have afew options not much.i was there for iftra with my family once the food finished then its done and you have to wait for at least 30 mins till the refill it . We didn’t get chance to try the dessert because there is a small portion like 10 small serving of fermi once it finished they didn’t replace so you have to be careful with dessert. Unless if you want to pay extra for bakery and buy to eat with your tea . Also it was Ramadan every thing is limited ,tea, manto, rice over all for afghans buffet is not bad . It’s was much better if they cook enough and have afew servers“

“Linh Café is a gem for French-Vietnamese fusion, but for me, the absolute highlight was the pho. What sets it apart is their house-made chili sauce; it adds a delicious, spicy kick that elevates the broth to another level. I honestly wish I could buy a jar of that sauce to take home!

The adventurous side of the menu is also great—the frog legs and chicken liver are unique and flavorful, and they give you bread to soak up every drop of the incredible sauces.

The only downside to my recent visit was the beer pour. I was a bit disappointed to see that about a quarter of the glass was empty when it arrived (see photo). While the food is 5-star quality, the drink service missed the mark this time. Still worth a visit for the cuisine!“
