“Ordered the off-menu Pomodoro pasta and it did not disappoint. The tomato and petit basil sauce was bright, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The wax beans were a standout - snappy and bright with serrano chile, toasted hazelnuts, and a tangy Frenchie vinaigrette. The garden lettuces were crisp and well dressed with radish vinaigrette, fresh dill, walnuts, and shallots. Good vibe, happy staff, great mix of flavors. The orange wine pairing tied it all together. “After our Altadena house burned down, we relocated to Barker Block and absolutely love being so close to Manuela. We used to have a fire table like yours, so dining here always carries a sense of home. Last night we brought friends, and they said, ‘This makes it hard to go out to eat in Monrovia—our restaurants cut corners with cheap ingredients and fast turnover.’ What your chefs create is the opposite: dishes with not just incredible flavor but extraordinary texture and detail. Their expertise is off the charts, and I highly recommend.“

“Sushi Gen is simply the best sushi spot I’ve found in California and honestly, the only place in the U.S. that has ever reminded me of the sushi I’ve had in Japan.

I discovered this place a few years ago, and I still remember how happy I was after my first visit. I had been looking for that same freshness and quality I loved so much in Japan, and Sushi Gen was the first place where I genuinely felt like I found it.

I’ve been back many times since, and it has never disappointed me. The quality is consistently exceptional, the fish is incredibly fresh. One of those rare places I can recommend without hesitation.“

“Came at a surprisingly slow night on Friday evening to try the signature Zhengyalov hatz and the lahmajun. Both are good and feel light and healthy. They are like pizza and calzone options without all the fat and grease. If you are a fan of herbaceous flavors, you would love the zhengyalov hatz.

Only complaint is that when we came on a hot night, the place did not have A/C, or it wasn't on.“

“Villa's Tacos were amazing! and I'm not saying this just because of the hype of the Super Bowl. I'm saying this because I mean it. The tacos were just amazing to me. Not your regular everywhere tacos. These tacos were homemade recipes. I had the carne asada, pork with potato (puerco con papa) & beans with cactus (frijoles con nopal). It's a week later that I tried these tacos and I can't stop talking about them. My favorite was the beans with cactus. Soooo good. Also, the atmosphere was just so nice and lively. I truly enjoyed every minute of my visit here. Thank you Villa's Tacos, we will return.“

“Totally worth the 70 minute drive. Delicious food and great Taiwanese hospitality. Friendly, attentive staff and wonderful atmosphere. Minced Pork (Lu-Rou) Rice, fully loaded delicious stewed pork with egg. Meats are juicy and tender, kinda on the sweet side. Clamshell bun (Gua Bao) comes with tender thick cut pork, a bit on the salty side, but very well cooked. Fatty but not greasy. Thousand layer pancake with egg and basil was crispy and flaky. The basil flavor is a wonderful addition. Scallion bread sandwich was what we expected. Same tender thick cut pork, very happy to eat this. Next time I will probably get the beef, too much pork belly today Wonton soup is very classic, if you like shrimp wontons, you have to try this. We ended the meal with Hakka mochi and Oolong tea, the mochi tasted just like the ones in Taiwan. The tea was fragrant and is just the perfect compliment to the mochi. Overall an amazing meal with warm and friendly people, highly recommend!“

“Walked here from corner of Sunset and Lilac. The tacos here never disappoint. They are always made to perfection. Down to the slice of onion with the mole taco, and the avocado on the Tinga. They always give perfect presentation and quality. We had a Jamaica and horchata.

The Vegan breakfast sandwiches and drinks we ordered were so dang good and trust, we’re pretty spoiled with Vegan food in the PNW! The workers were incredible nice. “The food here is phenomenal, especially compared to other Peruvian restaurants like pollo Inca. While it may not be the same, it’s definitely better in flavor. Everything is never bland, and the flavoring is exceptional. I can’t recommend it enough; you have to try it!

I wish I had pictures, but I was in a rush. They do have complimentary sauces and bread. The portions are generous, and the agua fresca is made in-house.

“This place has great Sichuan food! It has so many varieties of food to try and are all very good! We got the chongqing cold noodles that were very flavorful and numby! The favorite was the mapotofu that had very soft silky tofu with minced pork and a sauce you can smother rice with. We also got the local flavor lamb that had tons of veggies along with the soft tender lamb meat. The sweet and sour pork was crispy and delicious and the sliced potatoes with vinegar was very refreshing and had a nice soft crunch to it.

The staff were very nice and attentive and the place is very very popular and busy. The atmosphere is just like any mom n pop Chinese restaurant.

I've been here in the past and have enjoyed other dishes like the twice cooked pork, various dumplings, wonton in chili oil, dan dan noodles, cumin lamb/mutton & sliced beef & ox offal! The portions are always huge and sharable and great value!“

My wife always orders the lule, while I get the chicken breast, both are consistently tender and juicy. Be sure to try the eggplant caviar and caesar wrap, too. A special shoutout to Armen, one of the coolest people around, who takes the time to get to know you while preparing hundreds of orders during the day. He even discussed known allergies with us (only sesame) so our daughter can enjoy their food on our next visit. We’ll definitely be back soon so he can prepare a plate for our daughter.“

It can be so amazingly rich and heavy for some folks but this is what you're coming for! A guilty pleasure ruminating in cheese, mayo and liquid butter and corn. I prefer the bowl over the cob since it's much easier to eat. I also recommend getting two at once so u don't have to wait in line again and it's so cheap. 100% recommend!“

The only disappointment is that we only eat outdoors at restaurants and they only have outdoor seating on weekends. My husband tried calling several times beforehand to confirm outdoor seating but they never responded. Anyway, the food was amazing and I also loved the tea service. The waiters were very friendly and gave me a signed birthday card.“
