“Absolutely loved our meal at Lilo. The tasting menu was creative, beautifully plated, and full of thoughtful little details. Each course felt distinct, and the balance of textures and flavors kept the meal interesting from start to finish. The service was warm and attentive without feeling overly formal.

The only minor miss was the chawanmushi, which was a touch salty for our taste, but everything else was excellent. A memorable experience and definitely somewhere I’d return to.“

“It’s our annual place to be every August for the last 17 years: celebrating 50 years of marriage! The food, service and atmosphere right on the beach is heavenly. Our bartender Steve congratulated us and we talked for a short time. Everyone is so friendly, can’t beat the quality of their meals ! We drive out from Phoenix to have their specialty. “We’re visiting Carlsbad and didn’t have dinner reservations, so after walking around the Village we decided to try our luck at the bar. We were told about 30 minutes for a table, or we could wait for seats at the bar. We chose the bar, met a nice couple while waiting, and had seats open up in about 15 minutes.

Really impressive place from the minute you walk in. The building, architecture, lighting and attention to detail are all extremely well done. Great atmosphere without trying too hard.

Josh took care of us at the bar and was outstanding. Made us cocktails right away, walked us through the menu and gave honest, down-to-earth recommendations. We couldn’t decide, so we sampled a few things. The deviled eggs were a standout, and the ribeye dip and fried chicken were both excellent.

What really made it was the combination of the atmosphere, food and service. Everything was on point without feeling overly formal or stuffy.

We’re from out of town, so unfortunately this probably won’t become a regular stop for us, but it’s one we’ll remember. Definitely left wishing we had more places like this back home. Exactly our kind of place.“

“We had a wonderful family meal here! The staff was so friendly and accommodating from the moment we arrived. Every dish we had was fantastic, especially the clam chowder in a bread bowl, which was truly excellent. I'd also recommend trying the pear with prosciutto.
My wife, our three kids, and I enjoyed the food so much that we actually had to ask for seconds! On top of the amazing food, the location right next to the ocean makes it the perfect spot.“

I had fish and chips (3pcs). Excellent!. Crispy breading, crispy fries, and the fish was flaky and tender. 3 pieces was a lot of fish. I've paid 50% more at fancy restaurants for fair fish and chips.
My wife had ahi bowl. Lightly seared, nicely seasoned on a bed of salad. She ate all of it, about 5 oz.

We ordered two EPIC hot lobster rolls (Connecticut style, warm with butter) and although they were delicious, for the EPIC PRICE OF $39 PER ROLL, it was very skimpy compared to what you get for that price in New England. They stack it high in the middle and don’t fill the bun to the ends to make it look super full. It’s not. The New England clam chowder was great though.“

“I had a great experience at Ember & Rye. Their SD Restaurant Week menu was delicious. Kudos to the new executive chef there. Service was phenomenal. We were seated by Gina, who was lovely to my parents and myself. Daniel was our waiter and also did a fantastic job. He was always there when we needed him, and never there when we didn't. Great sense from him. I finished my steak frites before Daniel came back to check on us, and they actually gave me a medium rare (I tend to like it on the rarer side). All around very happy.“

We also got a ricotta stuffed crust pizza that was basically like a margherita pizza except the crust was stuffed with ricotta. It was really good too.“

I highly recommend ordering the fresh guacamole for the table to share; it's a great complement to the chips. It was difficult to choose an entree, but I went with the El Vaquero. The steak was cooked perfectly, with the enchilada being the best I've had in San Diego. It also came with filet taquitos, guac, and refried beans, all of which were wonderful. I highly recommend South of Nick's for your next dinner out, regardless of your party size.“
