“If you want to spend an evening experiencing what refined hospitality actually feels like when it’s dialed up to an eleven, SingleThread Restaurant is a masterclass.

Attempting to catalog every single bite of this meal would feel excessive, but it’s easily one of the most creatively executed menus you’ll encounter. It kicks off with a massive, 10-bite floral explosion of flavors that sets a staggering benchmark for the night—even if the baby squid bite was a rare miss for me. As someone who doesn't typically lean toward seafood, I still thoroughly enjoyed the entire progression without making a single modification, though I’ll freely admit the dessert course walked away as my absolute favorite part of the night.

To accompany the food, you’ll be presented with three wine pairing tiers: $300, $500, and a casual $1,500 per person. We opted for the mid-tier, and in retrospect, the nuances might have been slightly lost on us—we likely would have been just as happy sticking to the entry-level option. That said, every pour was beautifully matched and elevated the courses perfectly.

The dining room itself is gorgeous, sophisticated, and incredibly relaxing, anchored by stunning floral arrangements that make the space feel alive. Just be prepared for the service: the staff operates with some serious, ultra-soothing ASMR vibes. It’s so calming that you can easily fall into a lull, so don't feel bad if you have to ask them to repeat themselves. It’s an exceptional experience from start to finish.“

Thomas George Estates offers beautiful views of the rolling hills, a pleasant walk through the vines, and well‑crafted wines that are a joy to sample. Gary Farrell Vineyards & Winery Winery •
10701 Westside Rd, Healdsburg

“When we stayed in the Sonoma/Healdsburg area, our resort concierge recommended that we try Gary Farrell as one of our wineries to experience while we were in the area. This was our first stop and it was an amazing winery- only open for reservations only (no walk-ins).

We arrived a few minutes before our tasting and were warmly greeted by the host staff and shown to our table, overlooking the beautiful Russian River hillside area. The views from the winery are absolutely outstanding.

We learned from our host that the owners of the Gary Farrell Winery don't own any of the vineyards, they only procure the grapes and they're the wine maker. The wines were all drastically different and some of the best Chardonnay's we have had on any of our tastings we have done in Napa.

The host was so knowledgable and very warm and friendly. We went away with a new found appreciation of their winery and purchased a bottle of wine to take home with us for a Christmas gift. Gary Farrell is truly an amazing winery and I highly recommend trying it if you're in the area! We look forward to returning!“

“We met some friends here on a lovely but cool spring Sunday afternoon. We had such a lovely experience that we were the last visitors to leave, but the staff couldn’t be more patient. We had the charcuterie board with our tasting, and it was the most unique and delicious collection of local items. Both the wines were unique, flavorful, and reasonably priced. We loved it so much that the two couples each decided to join their club. While we went in loving the Sauvignon Blanc, we were most impressed with their Zins. They also offered our non drinker with a delicious sparkling water. We will return!“

“Porter Creek Winery was such a peaceful gem and one of the highlights of our wine country trip. The team (Crystal) went above and beyond to accommodate us, even staying a little late so we could enjoy the experience — and we’re so grateful they did!

The setting was absolutely stunning — quiet, serene, and surrounded by natural beauty. It was the kind of view that makes you want to take a deep breath and stay a while. The wines were just as memorable, especially the Zinfandels — rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced.

To top it all off, we were greeted by Poppy, the sweetest dog who made the whole experience even more charming. Between the warm hospitality, the incredible wines, and the peaceful ambiance, it was the perfect way to wind down our day.

Highly recommend Porter Creek for anyone looking for a relaxing, intimate tasting experience with a personal touch.“

“Healdsburg's best kept secret is Otoro Sushi, but thankfully it doesnt stop at just sushi. I happened upon this restaurant after going to my favorite place to shop for landscaping sculptures and misc. decor in Healdsburg, Garrett Hardware which happens to Otoro. Today, on my way home from UCSF we decided to try it out and to say we were in love at first bite would not be an understatement. We started off with a bowl of their soup which was delightful followed by a serving of tempura vegetables 😋😜 and we could not get enough or pick which one was our favorite. Then onto the main course one Bento Box with Teriyaki Chicken and its sides along with our sushi which consisted of 2- California Rolls, 2-Shrimp Tempura Rolls, 1-Yum Yum Roll 😋 (My Favorite) It came by its name for a reason and finally a Jalapeño Bomb Roll which is going home to the boy . 👦The only thing I forgot to add is I cant wait to go back.“

There is a raised back patio, but I was glad to see that tastings were held on the front lawn and garden this hot Saturday afternoon. It offers shadier spots, and I chose one along the path that felt like my own cozy corner among the plants and butterflies.

It was still hot under the umbrella! But the tasting room staff kept my water carafe filled.

A few wines stood out among this tasting of five, with two bonus wines offered by the staff: Mazzocco Stuhlmuller Chardonnay Reserve 2022 and Mazzocco Seaton Zinfandel Reserve 2022.“

Michael, the owner and winemaker, makes every visit feel personal. His passion for Zinfandel shines through not only in the wine (which is consistently incredible), but in the warmth and hospitality he shows to every guest. The Zins are some of our all-time favorites, and sharing a glass with Michael always feels like catching up with an old friend. Talty isn’t just a stop on the wine trail—it’s a tradition for us. ♥️“

“This place is great! This was the first winery I visited during my visit although I wish it was the last on the list instead as nothing ended up topping this experience. The winery was really clean and spotless, the grounds were well kept and the architecture was both charming and unique. The staff were super knowledgeable, and hospitable. We went on the tour that came with food and wine tastings, all of which were delicious; the kitchen staff did a wonderful job. Our host, Jason, was amazing as well; I think he really brought the experience together. He was very personable and saw him making a conscious effort of including everyone and making the overall experience engaging. At the end of the tasting he even gave recommendations for food and other wineries in the area which I found to be really helpful. He was committed to making sure we all enjoyed ourselves during, and after the tour. We were also lucky enough to meet the owner as well, who was also kind and greeted our group personally. We spent 4 days in Napa, toured many estates and vineyards. This was the one which stole the show. The staff, from start to finish, were absolutely delightful individuals. The farm area was beautiful with education on sustainable farming practices. Our time in the kitchen was amazing, with life-applicable cooking tips we could take home. The tour of the grounds blew us away, the history and knowledge fully restored our hope in sustainability. Then, the food and wine pairing with the fresh produce we hand selected. The wines? “I’ve had a lot of Japanese food in Sonoma and across the Bay Area, but places that deliver this level of consistent quality are few and far between. This restaurant is the kind of spot where you think you know your sushi and your izakaya—then they quietly serve something that reminds you what “mastery of the basics” really looks like.

The ingredients are so fresh they might as well have swum over to say hi. The knife work is clean and precise, the seasoning calibrated like it was measured with a ruler. Every dish arrives looking good, smelling even better, and tasting exactly as it should—leaving you with zero room to nitpick.

What’s even more impressive is the owner’s decade-plus commitment to doing things the right way. In an era where everyone’s chasing the next gimmick or “innovation,” he’s chosen instead to refine one thing until it’s perfect. That kind of craftsmanship sounds romantic, but in practice it’s harder than unagi on a busy night.

Put simply: this isn’t the type of place that relies on hype to get you in the door. It’s the type you finish eating at, then quietly add to your personal “lifelong list of Japanese restaurants you’ll keep coming back to.” If you’re in the Bay Area and craving a Japanese meal that won’t let you down, this is it—no fanfare, just understated excellence.“

“We had a great experience here. The tasting was primarily Zinfandels, which is very common at wineries in Dry Creek Valley, but all of them were very good considering the tasting fee was $25 and they waived it with a bottle purchase.

What really made our visit special though was the tasting area had a beautiful view of the valley and the staff were incredibly friendly as well as knowledgeable about the wines and history of the winery. The patio is dog friendly and they have a lawn area if the dogs need to relieve themselves which makes sense once you hear from the staff how much the owners love dogs.

The experience was the perfect balance of not being overly pretentious while also maintaining the class and scenic beauty you expect at a winery. We will absolutely be coming back again.“
