“Let me first begin by saying the waitstaff is incredibly kind, attentive, and friendly. Furthermore, the atmosphere—outside in particular—is just lovely, especially when they have live music; it’s set amidst the Truckee River with heat lamps and a fire pit to keep you toasty and this gem is easily accessible from a bike path no less. Should you order the Strawberry Shortcake, it is enormous and delicious. For these reasons alone, the River Grill should receive 5 stars. The reasons it does not, though they won’t dissuade me from returning, are to follow. I ordered the Grape Martini—unique, intriguing, and my waitstaff gave it a good name. It was good I must say, but it, as one could expect but at the same time not really think to, tastes exactly like grape juice. I did initially have to send it back because it came garnished with cranberries (of which I am allergic) instead of frozen grapes as advertised. You could imagine my chuckle when I watched my waiter, from afar at my table, present it to the hostess and I watched her fish one of the cranberries out of the drink, plop it in her mouth, and hurry away disgusted. They remade my drink which was kind of them but it did take acquiring the taste to not think of Arthur on a Juicy Juice carton. For dinner I ordered the Beef Tenderloin—the asparagus was amazing, the whipped (mashed) potatoes were yummy especially with the Demi Glaze, and the beef itself was good but more on the medium-well side when ordered medium which is kind of getting into semantics I know, however, it was a little dry. I also ordered the Truckee Sourdough but it never came despite being charged for it until brought to attention. For a 20-something who doesn’t have $100 to spend on a fancy dinner often, this combination can feel a little disappointing. Should I have the opportunity to, I would come back to River Grill because it, overall, was a lovely evening.“

“O.K., Coming to West Shore for last 20+ years. GF has been coming to West Shore since family cabin built in McKinney Creek in 1960. This place started off a little rocky a few years back but had definitely improved like a fine wine. I am a Carb boy and LOVE any variation of their Pizza's. GF non-Carb girl but still devours their pizza. Only suggestion (which is partially our fault) is to order extra Dates on their Date Pizza. Also, the Pickle salad could use some work (however, they refunded for that). Best deal on the West Shore and Tahoe City when it comes to price and quality. We usually go to Reno for dinner because of their quality choices, but the Dog and Bear holds up against the best that Reno has to offer. Service is 5 Star!!! FYI, I am a dog lover...Especially partial to Labs.“

“We did the four course tasting menu and every course was excellently prepared and exquisitely presented. There are choices for each course so each of us ordered different items so that we could taste everything on the menu. Such interesting items like fir needle ice cream. This is now out favorite restaurant in Truckee and look forward to visiting on future trips to the area. We had high expectations and Trokay exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend Trokay!“

“I was so impressed by the service at Dopo Pizza & Pasta. We made a reservation for our anniversary on the Saturday night of Labor Day weekend. The restaurant was packed and they were running behind. Our table was delayed by 20 mins. That certainly could have tanked our evening but the manager and wait staff went above-and-beyond to make it up to us, offering wine and an appetizer on the house while we waited and continually checking in with us. Some problems can’t be avoided in a restaurant, but the way you handle them and take care of your guests are within the establishment’s control and the management of Dopo exemplified the “right” way to handle these things. Oh, and the food was great, too! Highly recommend the burrata app.“

“Couldn’t be happier with Tahoe National Brewing Company and its team, especially Daphne and Jessie. Our family of 18 had arranged ahead of time to have dinner here for my dad’s 80th birthday, but we were also hoping to surprise my dad with line dancing lessons after dinner as he’s always wanted to try it but hadn’t had the chance. Although TNBC has public line dancing events every 2nd and 4th Sunday evenings, we were only in town in between those times. They graciously worked with us to have their dance instructor Kendall available for us! She was super for our group and it was a dream come true for my dad. Very memorable. Thanks TNBC! “One of our favorite places in Truckee, both summer and winter. Very comfortable inside and outside, and always a nice atmosphere. They also have a really impressive wine selection, including some bottles that are not easy to find.

And definitely save room for the cookie skillet with ice cream! We get it almost every time and it’s worth it :)

“This is a good place to stop and have lunch during your Northstar ski experience. However, I can't give it five stars because the prices are at least double the normal cost. That applies to everything sold here. Options for vegan or vegetarian guests are very limited. All that aside, it's a nice ski lodge, and the food is fine if you like burgers, fries, pizza, chicken tenders, etc. Lines are usually short, and the staff is friendly and helpful. It is clean and tidy.“

The food was exactly what we wanted! A watermelon non alcoholic spritz was so refreshing. Not sweet but more blended fruity mix. A hot tasty sandwich, perfectly crispy sweet potato fries and that day.. a velvety French onion soup. It was a different type of bread, bunch of spices and big slice of the cheese! So much cooked onions and a broth that tasted like it was cooked for hours, to get a deep rich beef taste. Staff was so friendly and nice. Will be going back to try their pizzas and salads!“
