“We picked Six Peaks Grille for our anniversary dinner and had an incredible experience. The staff were friendly and attentive and went out of their way to make our evening special. The food was outstanding and came out quickly, and sitting on the patio made for a perfect setting. We had a lovely sunset, a nearby firepit, and an adjacent waterfall feature that provided peaceful ambient sound. For food, we especially enjoyed the Filet and Wagyu Tri-Tip. Each was some of the best we've ever had - tender, flavorful, and charred to perfection. The sides were also great and the desserts are worth making room for (we tried both the house made Tiramisu and Sorbet)! Thank you John, Cindy, and team - we will definitely be back!“

There are choices for each course so each of us ordered different items so that we could taste everything on the menu. Such interesting items like fir needle ice cream. “Let me first begin by saying the waitstaff is incredibly kind, attentive, and friendly. Furthermore, the atmosphere—outside in particular—is just lovely, especially when they have live music; it’s set amidst the Truckee River with heat lamps and a fire pit to keep you toasty and this gem is easily accessible from a bike path no less. Should you order the Strawberry Shortcake, it is enormous and delicious. For these reasons alone, the River Grill should receive 5 stars. The reasons it does not, though they won’t dissuade me from returning, are to follow. I ordered the Grape Martini—unique, intriguing, and my waitstaff gave it a good name. It was good I must say, but it, as one could expect but at the same time not really think to, tastes exactly like grape juice. I did initially have to send it back because it came garnished with cranberries (of which I am allergic) instead of frozen grapes as advertised. You could imagine my chuckle when I watched my waiter, from afar at my table, present it to the hostess and I watched her fish one of the cranberries out of the drink, plop it in her mouth, and hurry away disgusted. They remade my drink which was kind of them but it did take acquiring the taste to not think of Arthur on a Juicy Juice carton. For dinner I ordered the Beef Tenderloin—the asparagus was amazing, the whipped (mashed) potatoes were yummy especially with the Demi Glaze, and the beef itself was good but more on the medium-well side when ordered medium which is kind of getting into semantics I know, however, it was a little dry. I also ordered the Truckee Sourdough but it never came despite being charged for it until brought to attention. For a 20-something who doesn’t have $100 to spend on a fancy dinner often, this combination can feel a little disappointing. Should I have the opportunity to, I would come back to River Grill because it, overall, was a lovely evening.“

“One of our favorite places in Truckee, both summer and winter. Very comfortable inside and outside, and always a nice atmosphere. They also have a really impressive wine selection, including some bottles that are not easy to find.

And definitely save room for the cookie skillet with ice cream! We get it almost every time and it’s worth it :)

“This is a good place to stop and have lunch during your Northstar ski experience. However, I can't give it five stars because the prices are at least double the normal cost. That applies to everything sold here. Options for vegan or vegetarian guests are very limited. All that aside, it's a nice ski lodge, and the food is fine if you like burgers, fries, pizza, chicken tenders, etc. Lines are usually short, and the staff is friendly and helpful. It is clean and tidy.“

“I went in yesterday with an omelet in mind when I saw corned beef hash on the menu. When I ordered it, the waitress asked "canned or fresh?" That was an easy choice, fresh! It was perfect homemade hash and even contained some green pepper. The best that I have had in years! I ordered it with sliced tomatoes and was in seventh heaven. Can't wait to return. The wait staff were the best too.“

“First timers. We found this place in Yelp and open table. Def worth the visit.

We had steaks, Alpine mac and cheese, elk meat balls and gnocchi plus mushrooms, asparagus, and first plates of corn bread and tuna sashimi.

All the food was amazing and the staff was very friendly.

“Shhhh…. i’m going to tell you a secret. This place has the best garlic fries. Do you know when you’ve gone somewhere once and the food was really great and then you go again and it’s not so great… Not with this place. It’s a little unassuming and a small strip mall in Truckee off the main drag, but that’s why I love this place! The food is fresh. The atmosphere is like the locals. It’s a great hangout spot when we were there a kids baseball team came in with their parents for food. Now this is a bar and restaurant with tons of TVs so be prepared the noise. It gets a little loud but well worth the visit. Services good the food is great and I’ll be back!

The halibut was dry (but aren't they all my husband would say). A very expensive meal that didn't wow.“

“On Friday, June 5, after being in the busy San Francisco Bay area for 2 weeks, it was a relief to leave the traffic behind and head east. Always liking to take the road-less-travelled, we exited I-80 at Norden and drove US Hwy 40 over the historic Donner Pass. Along the way, we came across the Old 40 Bar & Grill at the Donner Ski Ranch. It turned out to be a fun place, with a funky atmosphere and a fairly mediocre pizza.“
