“Service was stellar... engaging and professional. Food was beautifully presented. I got the ribs which I thought were 3/5, Not meaty at all. Fries and coleslaw 4.5/5. Key lime pie 4.5/5. I'll return but not for the ribs. I'm sure if I had mentioned the ribs issue..... it would have been resolved or replaced.“

“Food: Very Fresh, Very unique Japanese marketPortions: Sold by quality and weightPrice: Great value, Better than at RestaurantService: Very Good and playAtmosphere: Small market, very coolTo my surprise, it's a very busy place. A lot of people. this place was referred by a friend. You can buy fresh fish for Sashimi and sushi made on the same day. The fish are delivered the same day as well. Not a large selection, so they don't have food overload left over for next day. I love it. Will be back for more great sushiNote: Entrance in the back parking lot. Street front door remains close for emergency only.“
“Easily one of the best meals I've ever had. A friend chose Ootoro for dinner so I didn't really know what I was in for and I'm not going to lie, when we first saw the menu I was a little shocked. Definitely pricier than I usually dine but when in LA right? It's still a limited menu at my budget but I ordered the chirashi bowl for $28.95 and 100% I would order it a million more times and honestly it's a steal at that price. It's positively loaded with some of the freshest fish I've ever had and it was by far the best meal of our trip. The restaurant itself is very nice with modern decor and low lighting to build the ambiance. The servers were very attentive and service was prompt - I don't think my water glass ever emptied. I'd give it more stars if I could!“
“Everything is BEYOND EXPECTATION. Found this nearby restaurant after running errands. End up being the best meal I’ve ever had in a while. Sashimis are FRESH and thick. Baked rolls are amazing, probably the best roll I’ve had in my life (I’ve been to Japan twice so I know what good stuff taste like) Highly recommend this place. It’s a must go in Pasadena.“
“One of the jewels of dining in ELA. The food, service, and cleanliness of the restaurant are incomparable. I love the bento boxes, and they are a great value. The customer service is excellent and par noneVegetarian options: There are good optionsParking: The plenty of itKid-friendliness: Family oriented place, but mainly the food is catered to an adult tasteWheelchair accessibility: Yes plenty of room for a wheelchair, and I frequently see persons with them“
“We had the last table in the back and the noise level was great! If you sit in the front you might get a bit higher noise level. Service was super friendly and checked in with us multiple times but not being annoying. The food is amazing! Haven't had fantastic Shusi in a long time! Price is absolutely reasonable for that quality of food. We been 2 patrons and paid $191 for so much food that we actually have been over eaten lol. We just couldn't stop. Only thing - it was cold not sure if other doors have been open somewhere but that was a bit uncomfortable but not dramatically.“
“My friend and I had a great time and our waitress Christine was amazing! She gave us great advice on food options. We tried the Fuji roll, lobster roll and geisha roll, these were the best! Thank you! It's a great place to relax and enjoy some time with great people!“
“My first time coming to Sushito, and will definitely be back again once my mom and I get a craving for teriyaki bowls! Was greeted very well, lady in front was very friendly, polite, and patient when I asked her questions about the menu. Was also told about their buy 2 bowls/plates get 1 free on Tuesdays!“
“This is our go-to local sushi spot. Their portions are generous and always fresh.Be sure to mention it's your birthday! It's a party. The servers and sushi chefs are very kind. I love when they share complimentary dishes! Not always, but usually. If you haven't tried it, I suggest you do.“
“Purely for charm and LA history, Otomisan is outstanding. The oldest continuously operating Japanese restaurant in the city, there's certainly a retro feel to this place that can't be replicated.Ever since a few well-received profiles (Vice, PBS, etc), Otomisan has experienced a burst in popularity. On Saturday, we arrived at 11:30am, which is when they opened, and already all three booths were taken. Our party of four sat at the counter, which honestly might have been the reason we had such swift service. The owner is SUPER nice and even though she was obviously totally overwhelmed with a long waiting list and a bunch of takeout orders, she handled everything with a smile and didn't rush anyone out.The food is exactly like what I had when I ate at my friends' parents' or grandparents' houses who were Japanese American, so this meal was a lovely hit of nostalgia.Highly recommend the katsu, teriyaki, tempura, edamame, and salmon roll.“
“Great spot for lunch downtown. The bento box lunch special was just enough food and was high quality/delicious! Staff was also so kind and warm.Dietary restrictions: Plenty of gluten free and vegan optionsParking: If you park in the lot, it’s free either way validation from kombu but you need to pay via the text link first.“
“I recently dined at this exceptional sushi restaurant, and it exceeded all expectations. The quality of the fish was impeccable, and each dish was a masterpiece of flavors. The ambiance was perfect for a relaxing meal, and the staff was attentive and knowledgeable. From the presentation to the taste, every aspect of the dining experience was top-notch. I highly recommend this place to any sushi enthusiast - a true gem in the world of Japanese cuisine!“
“Convenient and varied lunch options ranging from sushi to bento to onigiri to yakisoba to even udon/ramen/curry! The store is so cute and packs a good amount of groceries for its small size. I wouldn't go grocery shopping there, but I would come for lunch and maybe pick up a few snacks and things to cook dinner that same evening. As for their food, everything was good. I would say Yama Fish Market's fish is way fresher and better tasting though if you only intend on getting raw fish.“
“We came randomly on a weekday night for karaoke. It was about $48/hr for just karaoke. The walls are not soundproof...like at all, so you can definitely be heard when people walk by. But hey, be loud and proud here. Overall it was pretty fun and does the job.“
“Had a great dinner at Kogane again. The food and service were great. The sushi chefs were friendly and gave very interesting tidbits about the fish, process and taste. The meal lasts about 1 hr and 45 min. Since everyone eats at the same rate for each dish through the course, don't forget to be on time. :)“
“My favorite sushi place. The quality of their fish is great. The chirashi bowls are very generous and have a lot of flavor. The service is always very attentive and polite.Parking: There is a shared parking garage behind but it’s often full. You can find street parking on the side streets nearby.“
“Went back this week and glad I did. Ordered a bento box, lots of tasty food and definitely worth the money. There was enough teriyaki for two meals. I'm accustomed to a different cut of meat for beef teriyaki so was surprised but enjoyed the flavor. LOVED the super crunchy not greasy tempura! I ordered to go so didn't each for about 15 mins. Tempura was crunchy to the last bite of the last piece! Also had the spicy salmon sushi, which I found quite good. I'll definitely go back and try other menu items. Staff was welcoming and kind. The sushi chef greeted each person as they arrived and thanked each when they left. Great service!“
“First time visitor. Absolutely happy with food, service and clean environment. Passing through Pasadena looking for lunch, lucked up on this eatery, caddy corner from Pasadena City College. Limited free parking in the rear and limited parking on the street. Food tasty and freshly prepared. Our server Aida was super attentive. I believe anything ordered would be satisfying. Hope to return there one day.Parking: Limited“
“Akasaka is amazing bang for buck if you like hamachi kama (yellowtail collar), it’s perfectly broiled - crispy on the outside and tender and fatty on the inside. Their chirashi bowl is huge with 6 cuts per fish and can serve 2. The fish is good quality and fresh and the tempura bits in the rice adds another layer of texture. I always come here when I’m craving lots of hamachi for a good price“
“Hidden behind stairs there's an obscure entrance. Once you are in it transforms into an edomae-style restaurant. We were lucky that a friend passed on a reservation. Given the length of the meal, you will be the only group of customers they serve for the night. We had a 22 course omakase. It was a first time experience for me and it didn't disappoint. Definitely a place for special occasions.“
“Went when it first opened and there was already a line outside. The wait is worth it! The sashimi plate is delicious and fresh and AFFORDABLE. My favorite dish was the unagi plate. I'm going to come back just for that. If you like eel, get the unagi plate, you won't be disappointed.“
“There service is good and the food is great. I was sitting at the patio at first, but I had to move inside because there were bees/wasps. It was on a hot sunny day. The chips and salsa are good too. I had the tostada rebelde and it was so good. GREAT PORTION too.“
“I love the atmosphere here. It was like sitting in a cozy sushi bar in Tokyo. However the sushi taste is not my favorite. Scallop was too cold to be served. Sea urchin tasted creamy but the seaweed overwhelmed the flavor. Sweet shrimp was ok. If you like ankimo you have to ask, it is not in the menu but they have it.“
“I ordered a simple combination fried rice and lemme tell you, NOTHING was simple about this food. There was so many different veggies and so much meat packed inside this rice it was ridiculous. I ordered something else but I can't even remember what because I was so full from the rice. I live pretty close by this place so I was going to wait until the last minute to go pick it up, but they actually called me when my food was ready! My food was piping hot when I got there and it might have been close to closing but it was clean and homey in there. Can't wait to try something else“
“This Place is amazing! I went here with my family not too long ago and this place was authentic Japanese food.It was a little pricey but worth it, we ordered 2 sushi sets, beef udon, steak and salmon bento box, sukiyaki beef, spider roll, dragon roll, and assorted sashimi. Our waiter was super friendly and generous. Most of all, it was presented well, the food came quickly and it was fresh.I can’t wait to go here again!“
“Our children sent us off to this dinner date while they were out of town. What a great gift. We had a cold sake with melon notes and their homemade yuzu soda to go with their excellent nigiri omakase. We ordered repeats of the sawara, kawahagi and toro taku and also ordered anago on top of the omakase. We normally don't enjoy the tamagoyaki but their castella style tamagoyaki was so good. This nigiri omakase was the perfect amount but would like to try their signature omakase in the future.“
“Simple food n fun unique flavors you cant find anywhere else like Albacore Ecstasy and etc.**Update: Post-COVID has made the restaurant more take-out oriented, with the sushi bar seating gone. Reservations and seating is available, but reduced by 20-30% now that part of Dine-In area has been modified for Take-Out.“
“The food was ok nothing spectacular (more or less affordable). The service wasn't good and a thing that is very unconfortable, besides the Bad service along the meal, is that You are still on the tablet and they take You the check as invitation for You to leave, in a personal matter I rather prefer them to offer me a desert instead. The location and tables good“
“All I'm going to say is this place is authentic. You'll know when you arrive. Even the menu had cultural etiquette list might be useful to know for some who are new to sushi or to Japanese cuisine. Anyway, food was great. Their Edomae dinner set came with a different miso soup than regular ones, the variety of sushi on the plate was atypical. I know most sushi places try to cheap you out on these set menus - this place did not. Highly recommended.“
“Food was great.. lots of selection and rarely seen dishes in other yakitori spots. The beef tongue was excellent ??.. highly recommend. Service is great, chef's were fun and engaging. Getting a Reservation is tough, but that's understandable for a location like this. Give it a try if you have a chance.“
“This sushi restaurant is undoubtedly one of the best I've ever tried. Each dish in our omakase meal was both unique and flavorful. However, I must admit that I didn't particularly enjoy the location. It's situated in what I consider one of the less favorable parts of downtown LA, with homeless camps nearby and limited self-parking. I felt uneasy walking to the restaurant. Nonetheless, the dining experience itself was exceptional.“
“We ordered the crispy rice with spicy tuna, the Baja roll and the rock and roll. Everything was amazing. Our top two favorites were the Baja roll and the crispy rice. The fish is fresh and clean tasting. The food was well prepared, I didn’t even need soy sauce. The ambience is really nice too! Highly recommendParking: Plenty of parking!“
“Chef is from Osaka Japan, he made great shari (slightly sweeter side as compared to Tokyo edomae purist style), nonetheless it was good texture, temperature. Most of fish from Japan. Kinmedai was excellent. So was Aji from Osaka. Tuna is from Hokkaido, taste similar to Ohma tuna, but slightly difficult. Chef knows edomae style and textures of fish, either natural or farm raised. Hope he carries more like Awabi, akagai, kohada, and more hikarimono next time. It was pleasant sushi dining experience.“
“Absolutely loved Oba! Came for my daughter's birthday and the service was amazing, the food was fresh and delicious, and everyone that works there is so nice and kind! My favorite dishes were the chirashi bowl, jalapeño yellowtail, garlic noodles, sashimi plate, shrimp tempura and red curry! It's so great to be able to pick from a Japanese and Thai menu! Will definitely be back and highly recommend!!“
“Honestly, was amazed at how good the sushi / sashimi was at this place. Didn't expect it from a food hall. WAY better quality tasting food than a more legit mid-level sushi places. Highly recommend coming here just for this. We got another roll to go because it was so good.“
“I came through because I have walked through this little alley with friends and always see this tiny little cat-logo sushi shop. I came by on a whim expecting some fast foody simple rolls which would have been fine. But I was surprised when the salmon roll came out, and it was immediately obvious the fish was really nice quality and the roll looked as good as some of my favorite sushi restaurants. Very impressed!“
“Hidden away in the city of Los Angeles is this amazing bar that serves one of the tastiest omakase. Entering the bar, you see a bar top that seats approx 10-12 people, with a open kitchen vibe. My partner and I had a great time. The Sunday crew was very nice and attentive, engaging with the customers and making things fun! The selection of fish was amazing, definitely a different experience compared to other omakase establishments I've been to.Parking was very easy since they provided easy simple instructions on their website :). Will definitely visit again on a Sunday ??Parking: Easy to access garage and the elevator close by. Very nice :)“
“Can't believe it's taken me this long to discover this sushi spot. Sushi and dishes are on point! It's fresh and creative!Service is prompt and polite. The decor is clean, traditional Japanese. There's a small outdoor area. Would definitely be going back. Next time, I want to try their omakase.“
“Been here twice it’s located in the heart of little Tokyo on 1st street. The food and service is incredible! The restaurant is gorgeous, simple minimalist Japanese. Both times we’ve ordered the Yosenabe Kaiseki course. It’s really delicious and there’s many courses. Everything is presented beautifully. Our meal started off with 3 appetizers, sashimi, chawanmushi (so silky), soup and the basket full of seafood. It also came with a side of udon & porridge. Followed by dessert and tea. Everything so good! And so much food! We’ve also been to their bar on a couple of occasions & they have an extensive sake list. They even have sparkling sake! My new favorite. They also have a great bar food menu. Highly recommend this gem.The owner Tomoko is lovely <3“
“I recently had the pleasure of dining at Haruka Sake and Sushi and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was captivated by the inviting ambiance and the tantalizing aroma of freshly prepared sushi. The food at Haruka Sake and Sushi was beyond compare. Every dish that graced my table was a work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The sushi was made with the utmost care, and the quality of the ingredients was evident in every bite. The fish was incredibly fresh, melting in my mouth with each sushi roll I sampled. The variety of options available ensured that there was something to suit every palate, from traditional favorites to inventive and creative sushi creations. But it wasn't just the food that left a lasting impression. The service at Haruka Sake and Sushi was impeccable. The staff members were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were more than happy to offer recommendations and answer any questions I had. Whether you're looking for a place to have a quiet dinner or celebrate a special occasion, Haruka offers an ideal setting.Overall, Haruka Sake and Sushi exceeded my expectations in every way. The combination of outstanding food, exceptional service, and a delightful atmosphere make it a top-tier sushi restaurant. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking an unforgettable culinary adventure. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or new to the world of Japanese cuisine, Haruka Sake and Sushi will leave you craving more.First time experience pass the test. Thanks ?“
“Thank you Sen Sushi!! I was scrolling through Yelp recently to see where I can take my husband for his birthday. Sen sushi's sushi cakes popped up and I knew that's exactly what I wanted. I gave them a call and the lady that was working was very nice and explained to me that I can chose my own rolls and they can form it into a sushi cake for me. Everything was super easy. I even asked if I can bring my own cake toppers and she said it wasn't a problem. I told her the date and time we were coming and it was ready right when we got there. The rolls were delicious and my husband also said the sashimi, uni and oyster was very fresh as well. It was my daughter's first time eating sushi and she loved it. So happy that everything worked out and my husband loved his Rick and Morty Sushi cake. Thank you again Sen Sushi!“
“Food was amazing! MAYA our waitress provided excellent service! Haven’t had this kind of service in a long time, she explained everything with detail and was very attentive. I don’t really try new places but I’m sure going back. Food is amazing and service is 10/10.“
“The menu offered a wide variety of options, catering to both traditional sushi enthusiasts and those looking for innovative dishes. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made great recommendations. The ambiance of the place added to the dining experience, striking a perfect balance between cozy and sophisticated. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or new to Japanese cuisine, this restaurant is a must-visit. Highly recommended for its delightful culinary journey and exceptional service.“
“Incredible! My wife and I both had the 6 Hand Roll and would order it over and over. We were in, ate a fabulous meal, and were out in less than 45 minutes. Such a cool experience to sit there and watch them make your rolls. The fish was cold and the rice was warm-perfect combo. Highly recommend.“
“Delicious and thoughtful dishes. I mainly stick to sushi and wasn't disappointed here. The premium charashi gave generous slices and I appreciated the small chopped ginger and mushroom added to the rice.We tried a variety of fish and it was consistently melt-in-your mouth. I highly recommend the hamachi belly and sea bream - these really stuck out.The veggie tempura was light and balanced (unlike some places that either over batter or cut too thickly), and the agedashi tofu was something I didn't want to share with my partner. This place has an excellent price point for the quality of the fish. I usually eat at a couple spots in Pasadena, but this rivals them. The service was quick and our server was attentive. We will be back!“
“Cute unassuming sushi spot that isn't too busy! The server was kind and open to answering all my questions about what was and wasn't gluten free. I got the sashimi mix with steamed rice and didn't have any issues. The fish itself was fresh and for the price, I was satisfied with the portions. The chefs were also receptive about cleaning the cutting board and knives for my meal. This is definitely going to be my go-to neighborhood spot for sushi now.Gluten Free: Miso soupTamari-provided upon request Hot sakeEdamameNot gluten free:Salad DressingImitation Crab MeatPonzu“
“I came here with my family that lives in San Marino. What a gem to have in the neighborhood. Lunch for 7 and everything was consistently delicious. My favorites were the salmon skin salad, regular chawanmushi, and the uni pasta (a special). They have lots of big booths that can fit 8 people.“
