“We went to Surmai yesterday and honestly, the food was fabulous. We tried the prawn thali, the special thali, and the paplet thali, and every single dish hit the mark. We ended up so full we could barely move, but in the best way possible.

Chef Sheetal came by our table and was so warm and welcoming, it made the whole experience even better. You can tell there’s real care that goes into the food here.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great meal with genuinely good hospitality. We’ll definitely be back!“

The dishes were a little different, so we thought they had changed owners.

ONLY get dishes from the weekly specials else it is too expensive. The pork bone soup is good, more spices than the old location. Get ready to use your hands. Beef roll has actually good beef, sometimes other places is just unseasoned fat.

“I’m from Taiwan and have tried a few Chinese restaurants in Palo Alto, Los Altos, Mountain View, Cupertino. The dinner the 4 of us had here was absolutely the best - flavorful, clean, reasonably priced, and good service! Roast duck blew us away - better than Chef Chu’s or Hong Kong Restaurant. Dim Sum dishes were good. Beef with mixed vegetables was tender and full of flavor, and squid in black bean sauce was authentic. Reasonable corkage too. Will come back for sure!“

“Fugetsu is a world wide chain of okonomiyaki. In fact, Rokko/Fugetsu has the first location of Fugetsu in the whole US.

Always a good vibe here and possibly the only place to get okonomiyaki in the Bay Area like they do it in Japan. Huge menu and drink selection with the shared Rokko and Fugetsu menu. I like the okonomiyaki sampler a ton as well. Portions are huge for this dish and everything else on the menu.“

The food is still amazing as always — the chow mein, kung pao chicken and garlic chicken are my favorites. Flavorful, fresh, good portions and fast service right on El Camino Real. “I love the pozole here. I come here often just for it. Service is great as is the food. The only thing is sometimes the music is blasting and if you have to sit under a speaker it can be a bit too much. But it's worth it for me for a great tasting pozole with a hearty amount of pork in it.“
