“Great sushi place. Dishes & rolls are a mix old faves and contemporary fusion. Staff is friendly and attentive. I will definitely be coming back.Parking: Parking really depends on what time you come. There was plenty of street parking when we arrived in the early afternoon.“
“Not fully Japanese kinda sushi spot, but been around for several decades. Solid. Sushi was good. Fresh, tasty. Hand rolled spicy tuna was just average. Best one in town is at Matsuhisha. Tempura was ok, best part is th fresh wasabi. Super tasty.“
“Very elegant and peaceful atmosphere with a very personalable staff. Took a few minutes of standing around to find the right door, but then we were set for the evening meal.I've never had fish that tasted so fresh. Sea urchin may not be my jam, but the rest was insanely good.“
“Was going with my sister to her appointment at a near by office. She was hungry and wanted something light to eat, so sushi seemed like the perfect choice. Being our first time, we didn’t know there were no menus and it was the chef’s selection. I don’t this guy, we were walking out the door and almost left, BUT, so glad we didn’t because it was amazing! Incredibly unique and delicious food, along with an entertaining education while enjoying our meal. The owners a good guy who takes a tremendous amount of pride in what he prepares for his guests. You’ll love it!“
“Lunch for 2: Got Delux Moriawase, Sunset Roll, and Soba Salad. Soba Salad was a bit small for the price but tasted amazing. Miso soup and salad (comes with Moriawase) were excellent. Sushi was great and Spicy Toro Hand Roll was good as well. Only thing we did not like was the Sunset Roll. Wasabi fraiche and smoke roe did not compliment the flavor of overpriced and ultimately just regular salmon roll with just two gimmicky ingredients. However, everything else was amazing. Tables are very close to each other and it was very loud (mainly due to the four business men next to us were really loud). Still one of the better sushi places in an area already crowded with great sushi restaurants. Certainly will revisit.“
“Do yourself a favor and sit at the bar at Murakami. My fiancée and I stopped by for dinner tonight and had the chance to meet a kind and talented sushi chef named Taro. Taro completely blew our minds by recommending fish we’d never tried before and preparing it in exquisite detail. We’ve never had a sushi experience like this before. The flavors were extraordinary and the service was delightful, with staff who clearly love what they do and made us feel right at home in the restaurant. Thank you Taro and team for an incredible meal. We can’t wait to come back!“
“Fourth time here, and this time was lovely. Came in on a nice rainy day and started with hot sake and edamame. Then the spicy tuna cut roll with light rice was very fresh. Then we had the salmon crunch roll, which is very perfect with the fried onions! Then some shrimp tempura with vegetables and though everything was cooked to perfection the tempura batter needed to be crispier. It was a little soggy, but other than that everything was delicious. Mochi green tea ice cream dessert was very good. One of the best places for sushi and very reasonable prices which is always a plus. Fresh ingredients and good prices! You can't beat it. Uri was our server and she's always wonderful! Thank you! We will definitely be back.“
“Since this place is doing only take out at the moment, truly excellent take-out experience. I have never seen omakase that doing take out as phenomenal. Everything was incredibly thoughtful and of the best quality I ever had. Especially, this place will serve you takeout as dining plates.“
“Great small and delicious Japanese Restaurant in the corner of the Fairmont Hotel! The most amazing and fresh fish. Under your eyes rolled sushi and brilliant side dishes, like miso soup, edamame and Japanese appetizers. A place to go and recommend to everybody.“
“DINNER Cod is great Sea bass (truffle sauce) is good too Salmon is great Kobe beef potstickers were good Dragon roll: too spicy Beef short rib is ok DESSERT Pear crepe and sundae are ok Nutella bread pudding is fire Chocolate molten cake is fire“
“First time here tonight (on a Friday) and what a cute place! Love the little wooden bridge as you enter the restaurant, cherry blossom faux tree and Japanese decor. There's even a couple of cute private dining rooms & a small outdoor eating area. Service was attentive and friendly. Shout out to Jose. Food was great! Miso Soup - Seaweed Salad - hubby said it was meh as he didn't eat much of it Black Cod - flavorful, tender & perfectly flaky Mixed Green Salad - great Truffle Salmon Carpaccio - hubby said it was good & fresh Yellowtail Jalapeño - hubby said it was good & fresh Albacore Sashimi - hubby said it was good & fresh King Salmon Sashimi - hubby said it was good & fresh Would definitely come back if in the Santa Monica area again. Oh and love the cute "wallet" the check is placed in & given to you. @travel_lifestyle_chow“
“This is a fairly new location for this restaurant. They have another established location in Santa Monica. This location is in Marina Del Rey right off Washington and Lincoln. Their food and service is excellent. This place is a hidden jewel.“
“Excellent quality sushi. I usually do the to-go so that it comes with the cute sushi boxes and it's always a fun experience. The sushi is great quality and fresh. The rice is always the perfect temperature and texture. I did not find any free parking when I came here so I recommend coming with someone to get dropped off to run in and pick up the food!“
“Where do I even start. I rarely go on Yelp and give reviews, but after going to this place multiple times, I must share the hard work this restaurant puts out. This is truly a gem in Playa Del Rey. Everything about this place is just amazing. It's a small and intimate spot close to the water and has the softest sushi out there. Every bite the fish melts in your mouth and just shows you how good simple and good ingredients can get. I've tried multiple places looking for good sushi but nothing compares. I will say, it is a bit pricey but 100% worth it. The service may be a little slow at times but you gotta give the staff a break when they are working so hard. They are all so polite and make sure you're table is always clean.“
“Amazing experience! I came here for my birthday dinner and the Tokyo omakase was to die for. One of the best meals I had in my life. The staff is very attentive and has great recommendations for which sake to order, you can tell that they really care about the dining experience. Each course was fresh and delicious and really highlighted the best flavors. I have never enjoyed uni before, but here it was absolutely delicious. I can't wait to be back next time I have something to celebrate.“
“worth the price. 20 courses of fish all delicious. i’d say it’s the correct amount of food. sometimes i go to fine dining and im hungry after, but here i was satisfied.somewhat cramped seating. avoid if your a large individual. people wore nice clothing, not overly fancy but business casual.“
“This is a pricier traditional Japanese sushi establishment. I had the Chirashi bowl which was absolutely delicious. You will need to remove your shoes when entering and the seating is low to the floor, as it is in traditional Japan. Underneath the table is a space for you to stretch your legs. The fish was very fresh. The staff is very accommodating. Dishes range from 50 - 100 dollars. The mochi Ice-cream was fire, if you decide to get dessert.“
“It has delightful atmosphere and kids friendly. Fish taco is highly recommended. The Japanese food is modified for some American style, but we still like it. The wait from ordering to the first dish was about 15 minutes. The table is shaking. So I only give four star for service.“
“Yes it's right next to a gas station but that shouldn't put you off, the place is pretty good. There are only 4 parking sports directly in front so at a busy time I can see this being an issue. The service was great. The waiter was very friendly and helpful in case we had any questions. The food ranges from decent to good. The Black Garlic Miso Ramen wasn't hot enough for me and way too salty. The tofu that I ordered as my protein was cold. The Lady Gaga sushi was a mixed bag. The toppings were a great combination of flavor but the tuna itself wasn't very good. I wouldn't order it again personally. That being said, we did really enjoy the Shrimp Tempura Cut Roll. It's not the best I've had but still very good. The Garlic Edamame as a starter was pretty amazing I have to say. Definitely get that! The Bluefin Tuna sushi we tried was also very good actually.I liked the ambiance inside: nice and clean with appealing decor. It's not really a place for a romantic dinner but it's not aiming for that anyway. Would certainly recommend if you're in the area.“
“I recently dined at this sushi restaurant and was thoroughly impressed. The freshness of the fish was outstanding, and each roll showcased a perfect balance of flavors. The presentation was artful, and the attentive staff added to the overall enjoyable dining experience. I highly recommend trying their signature rolls – a delightful fusion of traditional and creative elements. A top-notch spot for sushi enthusiasts!“
“I loved this place. Everyone there were so welcoming and the Taisho (The head chef) was super entertaining and made me feel like I’ve been there before. They are so proud of what they provide and all the fish are coming from Japan. Not only they are coming from Japan but also coming by first class over night shipping. They take care of their fish so well and I was so impressed when I ate.I’m so picky when it comes to Shari (rice) and yes! They use Akashari, which is red vinegar and rice. Their rice is sooo fluffy so you feel like you can eat a lot!I’m so so happy that I finally went there tonight! I’m hoping to come back soon and thank you again so much for everything!Ah btw, their desert was amazing too! The female chef makes the desert and we loved it!“
“Very delicious sushi spot that just blends in with majority of the closed shops near it, especially since the entrance was roped off as if it was actually closed, from the outside. If you’re looking for a kikkoman soy sauce spot, this isn’t for you.Ordered two carpaccios, one with fresh wasabi and ponzu, can’t remember the fish, and another carpaccio, think either halibut or albacore, that had yuzu juice and mushroom and those two dishes were phenomenal. Every bite was simply amazing and irresistible. Great fish quality, not a single piece was questionable in appearance, texture, taste; the quality was delicious. The assorted tempura was crunchy, the batter didn’t disintegrate when you dipped it and didn’t break up when you were biting it. A delicious batter that kept its integrity and highlighted the beauty of each ingredient being used. Loved having a tempura mushroom and the white fish was a unique and different touch. The nigiri- where the begin. All of it was delicious. For a party of two, we each walked away with eating $190 each which is a lot for how much we ordered truthfully but because the quality of the food was better that majority of the places we had, it was worth it and can’t wait to go back. No alcohol either. It was a treat to eat here and treat ourselves. The most delectable and fragile scallops that just melt in your mouth, the albacore was a dance in your mouth as well as anything else that had a drop of yuzu on it. Ended my experience with uni and it was pure velvet. The most underwhelming item I ate was a spicy tuna since I was genuinely curious but I wouldn’t order that again and just stick with nigiri. Each nigiri order is 1 piece and sashimi is 2 pieces. Thank you Jinpachi for a cozy atmosphere and a delicious treat- can’t wait for more!“
“WOW. This has to be the best omakase place in Los Angeles. WOW.My husband and I are from NYC and we love omakase. We tried a few similarly priced places, but none of them were places we would return to… except Yasu.Yasu is priced extremely well for the quality of their ingredients, the rarity of the fish flown in from Japan, and the incredible service. You’re served piece by piece at the sushi bar, and Chef Yasu explains each piece for you. There are some truly beautiful pieces that also taste delicious (see photos). We also had a langoustine!!! Such a delicacy and served beautifully.I’m sad we didn’t come to Yasu on the earlier part of our trip so that we could go again. We came to Yasu at the end of our trip. We’ll definitely be back. You definitely will not regret coming here. You’ll probably be wondering when you can come again.“
“Exceptional! Awesome little spot with an interesting location. Who knew the bottom of an office building could be so well executed as a restaurant? First, the food was amazing. I had the California roll, the avocado roll, and the cucumber roll. All were good, though I thought the California roll had the crab-to-avocado and cucumber ratio mixed up. Too much crab for my liking. Our service was efficient and friendly, quickly filling us up with water and attending to our needs. I would 100% return!“
“It was a marvelous night out to eat. This place is genuinely incredible - sushi, ramen, bowls, apps & everything. Also the vibe is just chill w great service.Anne was my waitress & she steered me in the right direction w/ the salmon bowl that was fuego. Thanks,Ryan“
“Super sweet owners and incredibly fresh sashimi. I got the 19 piece platter and was very happy with my meal. This place is a gem. When I went in, I noticed that the owners greeted everyone extremely warmly and had a bunch of regulars coming back. The auntie working the front of the house made me feel like I’m family eating at her house ^____^Definitely give this place a try!!!“
“A new cute little gem in the neighborhood! I ordered takeout through the yelp app. I got a dragon roll, California roll and kinpira gobo. When I stopped in, I was immediately greeted, tended to and even received a thank you from the chef for coming by. Got home and the food was packaged nicely, with plenty of sauces, ginger (my favorite) and utensils. I can tell the quality of the food is great as everything tasted super fresh and delicious. This location used to be a boba shop before. I'm looking forward to stopping by and trying more items, especially their matcha. Overall a lovely first impression and seems to be mom and pop owned - I always try to support small business.“
“Phenomenal ambience inside and outside. Sophisticated and fun decor in open, airy environment overlooking the harbor and boats. Lunch was excellent from the hot mint tea to the broccoli appetizer, to the signature dishes including the Quesadilla and tofu lettuce wraps. A hot out-of-the-oven chocolate chip cookie came with our meal and I had the oat milk, turmeric with pepper latte. It was all excellent. We will definitely be back!“
“1000000/10. I have lived in west la for 7 years and always thought the sushi in la was mid at best. That there was something about the weather that kept it from tasting fresh like east coast sushi. Then I came here. This may be my new favorite restaurant in LA. The sushi is mind blowing fresh and tasty. For the price point it's truly unbeatable. Had no idea it was possible for sushi to taste this fresh. Like wow. I also love that it's comfy seating which is so rare at sushi places. Sage helped me and he was an absolute gem. This is my happy place. I could literally eat here everyday, I had the sushi, tempura, and spider roll all were incredible. I'm so happy I stumbled across this hidden gem“
“Just like all the other Hillstone restaurants... meaning it's always exceptional. I've been to at least 15 Hillstone company chain restaurants around the country and they're all fantastic. The sushi is phenomenal, who would think an American style restaurant could do Sushi so good. The pressed Sushi is amazing, as well as all the rolls. Service is always fast and efficient, even when they are busy. Time standards are number one priority with Hillstone and it shows. The speed and consistency is king here. Do yourself a favor and eat here and walk to the pier and help work off all those calories! Lol. Great stuff“
“Fun and lively atmosphere. Great place for a date! The food is super, and the service is perfect. This is a perfect place to keep a wide variety of company happy, and fed! Highly recommend!Vegetarian options: Vegetarians understand how to order just about anywhere- especially LA. We don’t lack options.“
“I had the Fire Cracker Roll and the Curry Udon(vegan). The food is very rich with flavor, you can tell the ingredients are fresh. The chief is very interactive with his customers. The shop is small but makes the atmosphere feel homey. Definitely a good place to come with a small group of friends (3-4). Great experiences. Definitely a place that appreciates quality.“
“Always a pleasure. The hand rolls are simple yet delicious. In terms of freshness, the fish didn't blow me away, but the overall quality of the rolls is high. It was about $28 for 5 hand rolls, and I felt like I needed one more to be satisfied. They have several locations and I will definitely be returning.“
“Came here solo for dinner and wow, what a cool concept… one roll at a time! I got 6 for $29 and it was the perfect amount to taste all flavors and just enough to fill me. Service was great and the beers were reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend for a chill date night. The salmon and scallop roll were the best! I wish I could have tried more and or the dessert.“
“Absolutely loved this place! Everything we ate was phenomenal, and the staff were kind and attentive. The owner came by to welcome us at the beginning of our meal and told us more about the restaurant. Can’t wait to come back and try all the things we didn’t eat this time!“
“Best sushi in Los Angeles. Highly recommend the salmon sashimi, crispy rice with tuna, and toro. Everything is like butter and melts in your mouth. Recommend getting there 15-20 minutes before they open. They do not take reservations and it is first come first serve. Service is “
“This is probably the most popular place to get your lunch at from students and faculty at El Camino College. Every meeting I'm at around lunch time I see someone eating from Mr. H. I really love their spamasubi and their miso soup. It reminds me of my high school days when people would sell spamasubi from their backpacks. The place has a few tables and chairs to sit on if you are looking to dine in or wait for your food. Cool thing about their service too is they have a buzzer for when your food is ready. Sometimes it takes a little long to get the food to come out but it's always hot and ready to eat when they do.“
“We sat at the communal table and enjoyed looking at the aesthetically pleasing feasts our neighbors ordered! We shared a bento box with fresh sashimi, crispy tempura, and warm side meats served with colorful condiments. Once we placed our name on the waitlist, we enjoyed a stroll until our number was called. The portions are generous, and the atmosphere is friendly, both from guests and servers. Next time, we will order the soups and noodle combinations.“
“Food and service were excellent. Order the soft shell crab roll with spicy tuna. ( not on the menu but was recommended). Delicious!!!quality of fish and presentation was amazing. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. It was excellent.“
“one of the best omakases we have had in LA (ex-NYC here) and supreme service. it’s $100 table vs $180 counter for omakase which is probably why the counter is not packed everyday (we couldn’t understand why!). they have outdoor tables too. park at 141 Robertson in the garage. it’s free for the first 2 hours then $3 after!“
“The best ingredients, the best technology, and the best hospitality, all of which are the best. It's not a formal atmosphere, there are always smiling faces, and best of all, you can enjoy each piece of sushi carefully! This is a store I would definitely like to visit again.“
“Hand roll chain with set menus. You can order a la carte as well. I typically get the four hand roll set and I love the blue crab hand roll it ends with. Free two hour parking is available. This spot is bigger than other kazu nori locations but it’s best to come in a smaller group. It’s good for solo dining as well. There is a line where you wait outside but on a Friday evening at 9pm, we only waited for about 20 minutes. Credit cards accepted. They make the rolls in front of you and the quality is up there. The combination of cool fish with warm rice wrapped in a crispy seaweed cannot be beaten. They do have takeout boxes as well.“
“Quite possibly the best sushi place I've eaten at anywhere in the world, including multiple Nobu restaurants and a few very highly priced and exclusive Tokyo sushi places. I have no idea what their secret is, but everything they serve is world class. Even their miso soup, edamame, and green tea ice-cream send one's palate into raptures of ecstasy! I've taken, and recommended, this well hidden gem to dozens of people. Almost without exception, they have raved about it and become regulars. It's fun to see the animated enthusiasm even among reserved, non-expressive introverts or those with exceptionally high standards who know what outstanding sushi is all about. Fingers crossed that reviews like this don't prevent me from getting future reservations at my absolute favourite sushi restaurant on the planet!“
“This place has great reviews, so we decided to try. We parked on the back behind Jersey Mike's sub after 6 pm, free. The food was good. The alaskan poke bowl was delicious. We also ordered "What the hell" ans "California roll".The lady who served us and a sushi men were very nice. I will come again.“
“I had the hell fire roll and it was delicious! I also had avocado tempura and I really enjoyed it. It’s hard to find a place with good sushi but this was really delicious. Staff was very attentive. They even gave me something to eat that would help tame the spice level of the roll. Definitely recommend!“
“Love love love their sushi and the quality of their fish always tastes so fresh! We got the opportunity to sit at the sushi bar with our own sushi chef and watched them prepare all the different types of rolls. Surprisingly we loved the short rib nigiri (gyutoro)! We also really loved their bluefin toro and salmon belly! We got the Jasmine Cream, fried milk, and the cheesecake for desserts and they all felt very light and airy. The cheesecake wasn't too dense and had an earl grey layer inside. The fried milk had a nice crunch with a milky interior. And the Jasmine cream had a nice honey graham crunch at the bottom that was just enough to satisfy my tastebuds! The waiters/waitresses are always very attentive and will refill your drinks and clean out the plates right away. Definitely Michelin style service in my opinion! The inside is very spacious and open concept. Gets pretty packed towards 6:30pm but doesn't get too noisy where you can't have a good conversation with another person. Shoutout to Danielle, Jesus, and Kelly for providing us with great service and the perfect recommendations! Looking forward to dining at Uchi again!“
“Fun place to duck into before a show at the Pantages for a good cocktail and a bite. Enjoyed a variety of sushi to pair with our drinks. If sushi isn't your thing, there is a full menu of options on the reverse menu including short ribs, pasta and such. Ambience is spacious with two floors, outdoor patio seating protected from the busy street and an open bar. Can order food at the bar if a table is not available. Service is efficient and friendly. Reservations recommended.“
“This restaurant has incredible food, a delightful atmosphere and the staff was amazing. I was part of a large group that swarmed the place at an unusual hour and the staff was amazing at handling the sudden influx and was really accommodating for a member of our group that has severe allergies. Most importantly of all the food was top notch. Highly recommend.“
“Probably some of THE best sashimi I’ve ever had. The fish was so soft and fresh. The spicy tuna roll was incredible, the rice was sticky and the fish was tasty and soft. They seemed short staffed so the service was pretty slow that evening but they were super apologetic and nice about it. Delicious sushi, would love to go again.“
“Went back to back days because of the food was so good. The service was impeccable as well as the drinks. The lovely hostess was able to seat me despite it being super packed and I did not have a reservation. Definitely a revisit when in LA!“
