“I am a Miami to Alaska transplant and seek out great Cuban food and cafe’ whenever I travel. Castro’s is the real deal!! The Cuban Cafe’ is spot on and the French Toast with the Rum Sauce is off the charts!! Enough food to feed two! The owner is friendly & engaging as is the staff. Stop in, grab a Cafe’ and chill on the sidewalk seating while your breakfast is created..I say created because it is a true work of art…at least in my professional opinion.“

“Would have came here for the third time within 5 days if I could! I tried the basil pesto, arugula and shrimp burger. I'd rate them as follows: 9/10, 8.5/10 and 11/10. The basil pesto burger can get soggy if not eaten right away and the arugula burger could have used more balsamic and arugula flavor profile. However, the shrimp burger with wasabi aioli was perfect. It's genuinely the best seafood burger I have ever tried.
Disclaimer: the patties are thick and they are more of an gourmet burger spot, so you will have to wait some time for them to prepare you food. Otherwise, I wish they open a spot in LA at some point!“

“Don’t let the exterior fool you, this is no greasy spoon. We had a MARVELOUS breakfast here. All of the food was beyond compare, budget-friendly priced, and the staff is exceptional. Highly recommended. We will be back whenever we are in Honolulu.“

“The food was absolutely delicious! Top notch tempura that is fried fresh. It was served in 2 courses ensuring fresh frying. I ordered shrimp and vegetables. The dipping sauce was light but my fav part with the additional dipping salts/powders that added more flavor depth.
The service was excellent. The staff were kind. The Resturant was clean.“

“A wonderful experience at Maze in Honolulu, largely thanks to the exceptionally warm service, strong flavor and sauce work, and consistently good dishes from beginning to dessert.
What sticks in our mind were the oyster (meaty oyster that didn't feel powdery as some larger ones do, balanced but not overwhlemed by the sauce on top), the basil jook that came with the scallop dish (so well developed), the Washugyu and daikon broth that came with the main.
Also want to compliment the pacing of the meal as we never felt like we were waiting for a long time for any of the dishes. Pretty much perfectly well paced for preferences.
Overall, adding in everything into the experience would not hesitate to come back here again.“

“I made the conditional 25 dollar cancellation fee—reservation on open table days ago, and I recommend to make one ahead to reserve a table.
Parking is next door in the building, directly map the location to marin towel manciple parking is better option for you. Then walk down to the restaurant.
The two non-alcoholic drinks I have ordered the cucumber sour and house drink of the day, I highly recommend.
Corn one is way too cheesy and strong truffle flavor.
The beef is highly recommend.
Scallop has a great taste, cooked perfectly in texture but has a strong seafood flavor.
The food takes a long time to cook and wait, plan for at least two hours. Come by earlier before the appointment time is recommended, at least 15.
Two people, we spent 255D, top included.
Service is nice and professional.
Dessert menu came after the course has done, and variable selection of wine.
Chocolate is okay.
Strawberry cake is highly recommended.“

“From the warm greeting everyone receives when walking through the door to the attentive and super friendly service, this place is amazing! The sushi was outstanding… hands down the best sushi I’ve ever had! The texture, taste and presentation was top notch. Wish there was a location on the east coast!“

“Lots of attention from wait staff as set course require their attention and some of the cooking! Meat was incredible and having even a small amount of veggies helped with digestion; enjoyed the extra richness of the avocado kimchi. Prepare for it to be slightly smoky and more well lit than other kbbq type of places but very much appreciated the service and the touches of mascarpone ice cream and roasted corn tea.“

“Best kaiten place I've been to, by a mile (be it in Japan or the US). A bit different in a few ways.
All orders are placed a la carte on the tablet in front of you and then sent to you by conveyor, rather than having plates of various price points circling the restaurant. Nice that you get everything right after it's made! Good sushi preparation; very good nigiri.
This does all come at a noticeably higher price point though - you get what you pay for.
Easily recommendable, just worth noting that this is more like genuinely good stuff sent by conveyor, rather than a cheap bite.“

“This little place packs an amazing punch for some great sushi. It was the best sushi I have had. I got the shrimp crunch and we tried several others that I can’t recall the name of but was all excellent. Service was good. The atmosphere was quiet. Would definitely eat there again if I ever come back to Waikiki.“

“We celebrated a big anniversary at Pai and WOW - they made it extra special. We did the four course menu with wine pairings. The service was top notch. The food was inspired, creative, delicious, and locally sourced. Though the portions of each dish looked small, it was more than enough food and so delicious you wanted to eat every bite! The wine pairings were spot on, absolutely perfect with our chosen courses. The space has such a lovely vibe - clean and modern, but comfortable and well appointed. There really isn't another dining experience quite like this on the island. Justine and Kevin have created such a beautiful place with incredible food and service. Pai is definitely a must-try restaurant. We will definitely be back.“

“Hidden gem near Sand Island and exactly the kind of place we never would have found without a little extra time before our flight. The second you walk in, you know it’s where the locals eat. No tables? Didn’t matter one bit. This was probably the best food we had all week in Hawaii.
The loco moco was hands down the best of our trip and somehow also the best price we saw anywhere. The beef patties were clearly homemade and absolutely delicious, the eggs were cooked perfectly, and the fried rice was unbelievably good. Gravy- fire.
Was it a little grungy looking inside? Sure. But the kitchen looked clean, the food came out hot and fresh, and honestly that just made us trust that it was going to be amazing. The kind of spot you remember long after the fancy tourist restaurants fade together.
If you care more about incredible local food than trendy decor, don’t skip this place.“

“Marugame Udon is one of my favorite spots whenever I’m craving fresh, affordable comfort food. The food is always made fresh, the line moves quickly, and everything tastes consistently great.
My go-to order is the Nikutama Udon with shrimp tempura and chicken tempura. It’s the perfect combo every time. The portions are generous, the prices are hard to beat, and it’s easy to see why this place is always busy.
The only downside is the parking—it can definitely be a challenge. But honestly, the food is worth it. If you’re looking for a quick, delicious, and budget-friendly meal, Marugame Udon never disappoints.“

💵 $80
Fantastic bara chirashi using freshest of quality seafood (includes uni, toro, ikura, tamago, octopus, mackerel, and more), cooked with authentic Japanese methods and the restaurant’s unique twist on the dish.
Beyond excellent for the price and a must-have if you are a sushi lover in Waikiki. One box is a perfect amount for one diner.
Note that this must be booked several days if not weeks in advance (can be checked through their booking platform). Pick up is strictly at 4:30pm at the Sushi Sho storefront inside the Ritz-Carlton. Food is recommended to be consumed within the same day.“

“After trying to eat here for three days, I finally made it to Aloha Melt—and it was absolutely worth the wait! The food was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Every bite lived up to the hype, and you can tell they put care into what they serve. If you’ve been thinking about trying Aloha Melt, don’t give up if there’s a wait—it definitely delivers. I’ll be back!“

“Beautiful and peaceful place surrounded by nature. The huge banyan tree is stunning and adds to the calm vibe. The vegetarian restaurant serves food buffet-style, and you pay by weight. “Probably the best fried chicken that I have EVER had. If they were to offer a fried chicken plate, chicken sandwich, or just a bucket of chicken I think that I would eat here every day of the week. The fried chicken biscuit and gravy was delicious, but give me just the chicken. I can't rave enough about it. The service here was excellent, very friendly and thoughtful of the entire party. However, it was a bit slow. And don't expect your food to come out quickly. This is a small operation so expect freshly cooked for the table. Parking is the biggest complaint. That said, the headache of finding parking and the longer wait time is worth it for that chicken. An absolute must go for anyone.“

“The Zaru-soba sauce was perfect...the soba itself was good, but the sauce is amazing. I haven't had sauce like that since I was in Japan.
The hamachi carpaccio was a little sad looking, but the salmon with yuzu was really good. There were other dishes I wanted but they were out of it when I went.
Quail eggs were nice, the eggplant tempura was really good too...didn't care much for the grilled tofu. I guess it was because it was harder and dryer than I thought it was gonna be even after letting it sit in the sauce (i poked holes in it to help it absorb more of the sauce, but that didn't work).
Overall this restaurant has some really amazing food, as well as some not so amazing food. But overall I enjoyed it there. But for sure I'll be back when I want zaru-soba and salmon.
One interesting thing that happened was we asked if we could sit at the bar and we were told no. There was plenty of open seating at the bar, and there were only 1 or 2 couples up there at the time eating. I guess we were not good enough for the bar seating for some reason.“

“We had the pleasure of dining at Hihimanu last night, and it was easily the highlight of my time on the island.
Chef Ray makes the best sushi I’ve ever eaten look almost effortless. Of course, nothing about it is effortless. That kind of ease only comes after years of discipline and doing the work when nobody is watching. You are eating in the house of someone who has truly mastered his craft.
The omakase is thoughtful from beginning to end. Nothing feels random or thrown in for effect. Every cut, garnish, plate, and progression has a reason behind it. The courses unfold like chapters in a story, each one there not just to impress you, but to teach you something about the cuisine.
Then there is Chef Ray himself. Sit at his bar and you may hear how he worked his way up from the dish pit, developing his passion and an almost unreasonable commitment to finding the best possible ingredients. He tracks down exceptional ingredients from remote corners of the world—fish you have probably never heard of, sourced from places where they can scarcely be found anywhere else. It is always flown in fresh and served the same day it was in the market in Japan. In many cases, he even makes or prepares the accompanying ingredients himself, because a master does not cut corners when telling the best story.
It is extremely rare to encounter that level of precision without ego. Usually, it comes with excessive performance. Rarer still is leaving an omakase genuinely stuffed.
At Hihimanu, there is more than enough food, but the real generosity goes far beyond portion size. Your reservation comes with conversation, warmth, and a genuine desire to serve you the very best. By the end of the evening, you don’t feel like a customer who has completed a tasting menu. You feel like someone who was welcomed into a home, fed properly, and sent on your way like family.
A truly unforgettable meal.“

“Floralia is the best pizza I’ve ever had (including non vegan pizza). The crust is chewy and crispy at the same time. The sauces and toppings are all made in house. The focaccia is fluffy and delicious. The Caesar salad dressing is garlicky and creamy. Cant go wrong with on the menu. Just moved off island and I don’t think I’ll ever find a pizza that compares 💔 Updated from previous review on 2026-07-31“
