“I was very happy to see that the owner was Korean and ordering was easy. I really enjoyed the sashimi, sushi, and rolls that were fresh and melted in my mouth. I recommend it because the atmosphere is so good. The staff were all friendly and I enjoyed my meal. thank “
“Arrived with a reservation at 18:00 when it opens. Reservations are recommended as the restaurant may be filled with customers lining up when you arrive. The whole store is lively, the customer service is efficient, and the atmosphere alone makes you feel like THE Japan. You can see some of the food being prepared from behind the counter, but it seems like each person is in charge of it, and each dish is beautiful in a good way, probably because the staff are working hard at it. Even when it's crowded, the service is stable. I think you can get an idea of the taste by looking at the photos posted by the reviewers, so I will omit it. When I look at the photos, I tend to forget that this place is Owafu. Not Japan. Very cost-effective and delicious. Thank you for the treat.Reserved a table for the 6:00 PM opening. Given the possibility of the place filling up with customers already in line upon arrival, making a reservation is highly recommended. The entire atmosphere inside exudes energy, and the staff's efficient service gives off that unmistakable Japanese vibe. The kitchen is somewhat visible behind the counter, and each staff member seems dedicated to their assigned tasks, resulting in beautifully presented dishes that reflect their commitment. Despite the bustling crowd, the service remains consistently reliable. I'll refrain from commenting on the taste, as you can gauge that by looking at everyone's posted photos. Looking at those images, it's easy to forget – this is not in Japan; it's in Oahu. Exceptionally cost-effective and delicious! Thank you for the wonderful meal.“
“This was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. Truly mind-blowing. My partner and I got four rolls plus a couple other things. Each was SO GOOD and unique. They have a nice variety of options, all strictly vegan but I'm sure non-vegans should enjoy equally. Service was prompt and very attentive. Extremely highly recommended. Wish I could go back!Vegetarian options: All vegan!“
“I had a wonderful experience at Maru Sushi. The Chef Tsukasa Okino was a wonderful host. His skill and artistry was on full display. Each dish was precise and delicious. Chef Okino explained where each dish was from and what each dish was. During our meal everything on the menu with the exception of the Abalone was shipped directly from Japan. At the completion of the meal Chef Okino gave each guest the option to have any of the dishes a second time. I was full and content at the end of the meal. The staff and chef were so welcoming and friendly. Any questions were answered promptly and with great detail. The staff was quick and efficient throughout the entire meal. The atmosphere was intimate and cozy. The restaurant seats at most 10 people for each seating. You receive the staff and Chefs entire attention. It was a wonderful and educational experience.I will definitely return to Maru whenever I am visiting Honolulu. It's worth the price and then some.“
“Outstanding all the way around - Chef Ray and his team are masters at the art of omakase. Every dish was delicious - a unique journey each plate. The sake selection was also amazing - sake sommelier; curated by his better half. :-) Even the green tea was delicious. Lovely, intimate setting - only 10 seats. Food and presentation worthy of Michelin stars. Be forewarned- arrive with an empty stomach because it's over 18 courses - you will not leave hungry and wanting for more!“
“I’ve been fortunate to eat sushi in many places around the world (including Japan) and this is the best I’ve ever had. The fish was so fresh and everything was perfectly prepared. We loved it so much we went back a second time in the same week!“
“Unassuming sushi spot here in Honolulu. My friend took a group of us here for their omakase. You have to call to make a reservation. We parked a block away on a street but I think there's a small parking lot next to this plaza. This was a large omakase meal with lots of variety of seafoods. We got fried stuff, raw stuff, grilled stuff, etc. Overall it was extremely satisfying. One feedback comment is that the pacing was extremely fast. We wouldn't even be done with our portions when the chef would bring out our next course.Satisfying but expensive. I would recommend if your budget can deal with it!“
“Nice for small groups to larger functions. Several party banquet rooms. Parking is valet parking only, $8 pervehicle plus tip. Congested parking lot, where valets puzzle together cars in lot. Older large house stucture, turned into restaurant. Had a baby party there of 60 guest upstairs (2nd floor) no elevators. Also, was there for a 50th birthday party (100+ guest) in 1st level room.“
“Chef and his team do a great job at welcoming us to the bar for a delicious dinner service. No need to ask for a refill or glasses or for anything because the service is top-notch. Chef is fun, energetic, exciting, and a perfectionist at his craft. Sushi is excellent. The service is memorable, our dinner experience was one of a kind. Please do yourself a favor and dine with Chef Aung and his team. “
“there’s no shortage of good poke bowls in honolulu. this place is above average definitely but just short of special. its a solid takeout counter with very limited seating. i love that they give you miso soup on the side, which is awesome. i got the crunch bowl, and appreciated that they fresh fried the ebi tempura, instead of a big batch that sat around. so the owners really care about quality and presentation. i also like that they didn’t drown it in sauce. i think some may balk at the smaller portions, but it was just right for me. good choice if you are in the area“
“Amazing food. Fish is so fresh. The bowls are dynamic and flavorful. After moving to Oahu, I became obsessed with poke and would go out of my way to eat it from different places. I found Aloha Cones one random day as I was looking for the nearest place. Since then I have not found a poke spot that I like more, and I did indeed keep looking. If you ask me, this is the best poke on the island. Two years and counting, Aloha Cones is still at the top of my list.“
“I'm a recent transplant to the Ala Moana/Ena area so the first thing I did was scout the neighborhood for food options. Luckily, the likes of Aloha Kitchen, Sunny's, and Food Pantry are just steps away.Even better, whenever the craving for Japanese food hits, Chiba-ken is literally 200 steps away ? I've been here about 10x now and it's always a great experience. The food is good but I like the service and the vibe even better. Unlike a lot of restaurants, there doesn't seem to be a server assigned to your table/section - anyone that walks by is constantly checking on you. I've had up to four different people taking my orders and serving the food but there's never been a mix-up.And because it's so close to Waikiki, it looks like it's a mix of locals and tourists. In the late evening/night, it's always packed with people looking for good food and a good time. The pics aren't the best but some of the things I ordered on my last visit.Pro Tip: It tends to get busy here so if you know when you're planning to visit, reservations are the way to go.“
“I forgot to take pictures. The food was fantastic. I had the sushi and soup combo. Sushi was fresh and delicious. The miso soup was good. The dynamite salmon was amazing!!! The food was really good quality, a good portion and well priced. I called in for a takeout order and the lady was lovely both on the phone and in person. The next time, I would love to eat at the restaurant. It was so cozy and welcoming. I would also get 2 orders of the salmon. It was that good.“
“The sushi here was FANTASTIC! I got the Hawaiian roll, and it was the best sushi roll I've ever had. It was the perfect balance of textures and flavors. No soy sauce required!I also enjoyed watching their television of various authentic Japanese dishes being made. Very fascinating.“
“Our company previously hired them to do a "live-sushi" bar at our event, was a big hit! Having the sushi chefs roll sushi right in front of you was also fun to watch! Also, great sushi platters! (but you must pre-order, as they primarily do catering now) They're my go-to place whenever I have to bring food to a party. Their sushi platters are always enjoyed by everyone.Definitely recommended!!!!“
“A small and cozy place at the cross street from Waikiki Beach and a serving staff were very sweet and courteous. We had a deluxe sushi menu, udon soup(a little salty for me), tuna hand roll, and a hot sake! The sashimi fishes were fresh, and we enjoyed them while dining in. I recommend you need a reservation, otherwise a long wait!“
“I arrived and started looking over the menu and at all of their different sushi/bento combos. Very overwhelming to navigate for my first time, but no big deal I eat sushi 100+ times /year. Sometimes every day twice a day.I ended up ordering the salmon/ahi poke bowl along with a samurai Maki. I also tried to order a "tuna avocado maki". This is where my problems started. The guy taking orders told me "we don't have that on the menu". I asked, can you make it for me and charge whatever you need to charge. He doubled down and said "we can't do that. We can make the spicy ahi Maki or an ahi hand roll and add avocado". Again I said, I don't want that. That comes with cucumber and spicy tuna. I would like a Maki roll with ahi tuna and avocado, that is all.At this point he still refused to make it so I said forget it, ill just stick with the poke bowl and samurai roll. When my food arrived (I ate in the location), he pushed the tray too hard at me and spilled the miso soup. (Not a lot, but I could tell he didn't like me from our exchange about the tuna avocado Maki and this was probably a subconscious action. He asked if I wanted another, I said no its fine.Lastly, the spoon for the miso soup is basically flat. I had a very difficult time eating with the spoon because you can't pick up any liquid with it. I ended up just picking up the bowl and drinking. The flavor and quality of the sushi was excellent and I had no issues along those lines.I hope this review helps the owner / management correct a few service related issues to improve this location!“
“Went to Hana no Sato one night and got the Kaarage Chicken Bento which is pretty reasonably priced the Chicken was flavorful and juicy, I got it with the salad which was fresh and the dressing was tasty. they were very friendly and seems parking is not too bad as i found a parking space right out front although there is some parking in the back, hope to vist soon again.“
“Amazing Omikase experience! A friend and I did the sake pairing as well. Heavy pours and amazing quality sake. We both requested to not have any fruit sake samples so the host had other options to try, some which were made by friends back in Japan! I would recommend to any sake lover who also wants to have a great meal!“
“The restaurant was small and quaint, it only had about 7 seats at the sushi counter, which is about the entirety of the restaurant. The staff there are phenomenal and extremely nice. They really care about the service they provide, constantly cleaning your area, filling your drink, and even show you a picture of the fish for each piece. The restaurant was omakase style, and you have the option to add a few more pieces to it at the end. They served about 15 pieces, along with two apps, and dessert. The sushi itself was overall good, 3-4 outstanding pieces, and the rest were good. Not a single piece was fishy, nor an undesirable texture. My only complaint is that the eel had small fish bones in it.Overall, solid sushi place. As a side note, they refuse to accept tips, as traditionally it's included in the price.“
“Best soba in Honolulu! If you’re searching around for soba restaurants, do yourself a favour and just go here. This was my second favourite meal during our entire honeymoon trip in Hawaii and we came back on the last day. I got the Tempura Soba Set A (Zaru style) and added Mentaiko. The soba is handmade so it’s fresh and bouncy and the tempura is fried perfectly. We also highly recommend getting the Miso Gindara- it was so buttery and flavorful! At the end of the meal, they will give you a pot of water that they used to boil the soba noodles. Pour a bit of it in your leftover soba dipping sauce and drink it for a soothing and clean tasting drink to end the meal. This place is popular so if you’re going during dinner, there will probably be a line up. Just write your name down on the board at the entrance and they will call you when your table is ready. There are two seats inside at the waiting area and a few seats outside the restaurant for you to sit while waiting.Highly recommend this place. Food is great and the ladies are so cute!Don’t forget, it’s BYOB. They just charge $1 for each cup.“
“After spotting it on IG touted as an affordable omakase haven, we decided to give it a try. Making a reservation over the phone was a breeze, and for our party, we opted for the 19-course extravaganza at $135. The sushi journey that followed was wonderful. Fresh, delicious, and downright amazing, each course was a testament to the chef's skill and the quality of ingredients. What caught me by surprise was the thoughtful touch of offering a bonus sushi at the end, allowing us a second helping of any sushi course. My only feedback is that there could have been a course with uni (sea urchin) that would have made this a perfect meal. Despite being pleasantly full, this unexpected delight was a standout moment. Service was impeccable, with a staff that was not only friendly but also remarkably courteous and attentive. They added a layer of warmth to an already delightful dining experience. For parking, there are paid options on the street or in a public lot, but the bonus is free parking outside business hours, making it convenient for patrons.“
“If you're a sushi aficionado, this is your spot. Despite the long wait, the freshness of the sashimi makes it worth every minute. Each bite transports you to Japan; it's a taste sensation that surpasses anything you'll find stateside.“
“This is a place I'll be coming back to again and again. The ambience is great and the wait staff is amazing. But most importantly, the food is incredible. The flavors are really spectacular and the sushi is some of the best quality I've ever had in my life. The sushi is a bit more expensive than you would see in other places, but that's what I would expect from local, freshly-sourced ingredients. The sweet potato salad, hurricane fries, cucumber, salad, and special Nigri options were all incredible. Thank you!“
“Love coming to this place. Brought my husband for the first time and he loved it. The food is always fresh! Environment is always cool and clean. Staff is always very friendly and welcoming. I love coming here, even if it's 30-40 minutes to get to.“
“We chose the Omakase option (chefs choice) and were served with course after course of the highest grade fish tastings we’ve ever had. Chef Steve assembled an orchestra of flavors from Japanese Snapper, to Needle Fish, Rock Fish, and as a special treat…Halibut Fin. Of course the Toro melts in the mouth and the Hokkaido Uni was smooth as fresh churned butter. And the fresh wasabi! The ingredients were top notch but the preparation was precise and exacting. My 10yo son seriously LOVES sushi and this was his first legitimate sushi bar experience. Chef Steve went out of his way to surprise the kid with a few little extras.Highly recommend Sushi Ii and chef Steve at the bar. Adding this place to our Top Five Must Go rotation list!“
“We had dinner at Yohei with our cousins. We had Maguro Zukushi set, Sashimi Teishoku set, Seafood Tempura Teishoku set, and Misoyaki Butterfish Teishoku set.Food was vey good. Sashimi(fish) was fresh. Tempura was good. Misoyaki Butterfish was excellent.Service was excellent! We like the ambiance. We all enjoyed our food and would come back for more.“
“I was looking for an omakase spot last minute to top off my solo trip to Hawaii and Sushi Sho was by far the highest, most recommended place that I saw. I was somehow luckily able to snag a reservation for 1 and although I was a bit hesitant because of the price tag, knowing how difficult it is to get a spot here, I thought it was a sign I could not miss out, and I'm so glad I did it. From the thoughtful service to the carefully and delicately crafted dishes, Sushi Sho has become my all time favorite omakase experience. We had a total of 27 courses including dessert and it was such a delight tasting each dish not knowing what to expect, but genuinely enjoying all these flavors in a new way. The staff make sure that your dietary preferences are met so that you can have a completely well rounded meal that you will enjoy. Thank you Sushi Sho for an amazing time, this will def be one of the most memorable experiences of my Hawaii trip.“
“Referred by a friend, recommended to wait in line by 4:30pm without a reservation, hoping to be lucky to get seated for 2 in a weekday. Saw workers going in for work and owner took the sign and bench out for us to sit before 5pm (when they open) and let us in prior to 5pm.Sat at the bar, friendly workers and chefs, recommend us their favorite fishes. We order lots of variety of food and the food either meets our expectations (hamachi, toro, shrimp, scollap) or exceeded our expectations (tamago, tofu jelly, chawanmushi, Shimaaji, Kinmedai, clam in sake broth)!Thought it would be over $250 but turns out to be a little under $200! Definitely back next time in Hawaii!“
“I went to this restaurant for the first time after being invited by an acquaintance, and since it was lunch time, it was a set meal. The place was full and there were 3 of us at the counter, and I had the grilled mackerel set meal.I'm sure $19 is expensive in Japan, but it's cheap here, and the grilling is good. It's fatty and very delicious.Next time we will visit for dinner.Parking: During busy periods, the free parking lot is full, but paid street parking is available.“
“Had a lovely meal at Yoshitsune recently, and it's definitely worth talking about. The highlight of my visit was the exceptional service, particularly from a very kind elderly lady who made the experience truly memorable. She steamed the unagi (eel) rice right at our table in a pot and even involved me in the process by having me use my phone to time it. Such a unique and engaging touch!Unfortunately, I missed out on trying their matsutake rice, which I was looking forward to, but that didn't dampen the overall experience. The sashimi served here is not only generously portioned but also incredibly fresh. Following a satisfying set meal, we were treated to a delicious dessert that perfectly rounded off the meal.My visit to Yoshitsune was thoroughly enjoyable, from the attentive service to the quality of the food. It's a solid four-star experience for me, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic and hearty Japanese cuisine.“
“Really fresh and huge poke bowls! Generous portions and variety of fish and sauces. Good selection of drinks also. Everything was well priced for the portions and quality. The service was great, and our order was ready quickly. Nice selection of other menu items that looked just as great: bento'sashimi'and sushi.“
“it is delicious! I don't know if it was because I ate poke with a lot of ingredients, but it was a truly colorful feast of flavors? And the ingredients were so fresh that it was a happy meal! It’s also great to eat alone! I thought tuna was a smelly fish, but this restaurant made me realize that what I had been eating was not real tuna.“
“We visited at 5:30 on a Saturday evening & we were seated straight away. We ordered drinks, appetizers and dinner all at the same time. My 8 yo ordered a small ramen with steamed chicken (he's a plain eater) and he enjoyed it very much! My husband ordered the spicy tan-tan and he said it was very good. I ordered the tuna poke, very tasty and the amount of fish was plenty ! For appetizers we had the karaage and the salmon avocado roll, both were very good, my son said the karaage was super ?! I gave one star off for atmosphere because we sat at the table at the very back patio and every once in a while we would get a whiff of stale garbage? The service was excellent, everyone was very friendly and helpful.Kid-friendliness: We didn't see a kid's menu but when we asked if they had a child ramen portion they accommodated my 8 yo with no issue. They offered ramen noodles with broth and a side of his choice! And then he ate it, like the champ he is!“
“We enjoyed our experience. One of their affordable, cheap eats, are their Udon combos ? --- so ono-licious ? ? We ordered D1 Udon Combo with our choice of a mini ahi poke bowl ? and a D4 Udon Combo with a mini unagi bowl ? Enjoyed our meal with yummy B6 onigiri set and delicious Peach and melon Shizuoka sodas ????Definitely a Local Favorite. The sweet lady that took our orders was attentive when decided to dine in instead of take out. So friendly. We will be back. Love it ? Parking: There's about 20 parking stalls. And so, during slow hours, parking is no problem. It's the peak hours you'd need to avoid.Kid-friendliness: Family friendly and kid friendly environment.“
“All the dishes are delicious, but there is a big difference in cost performance. It's a good combination of Japanese and Hawaiian cooking, so I think Westerners will also appreciate it.It is no longer BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle), so if you bring your own bottle, you will have to pay a corkage fee.“
“I've been meaning to post this review for a while, as we went in January. This is probably my new favorite sushi spot for omakase. At the time we went, it was $100 for apps plus 10 sushi courses, and everything was fresh and delicious. I also love that it's byob, and that they have a whole list of options to select additional courses at the end (some which were served, and some new ones). The owners here are so friendly and inviting, and I loved the casual atmosphere. Only thing is they're so popular, that you need to book a month in advance, at least. But it's worth it!“
“So you're probably not going to think this place is much, especially if you're a tourist. This looks like some random sushi place in a mall area, but don't let the location deceive you. This place was one of our favorites during our entire week in Hawaii. The quality of the sushi was amazing and the portions were generous. The price was also very reasonable and the service was great (mind you, we weren't there in peak dining hours). I would definitely come back here next time we visit Hawaii.“
“We made lunch reservations as we had heard good things about this restaurant. The lunch menu is really well-priced for what you get and the quality is there. I had the grilled mackerel and sashimi for $28. I feel like throughout our trip, that was one of our cheaper meals (that wasn't food court) and absolutely one of the best meals we had. I don't mean to compare this to fast food and food courts, but I was stunned as to the value of our meal. I would absolutely go back on our next trip here.“
“Great food, great service and a must go if you love sushi. So fresh and delicious!! They even purchase fish from the market first thing in the morning. Had the ahi and hamachi...soo good. Go check them out...delicious grindz!!! Plus they have a great selection of fish to choose from.Parking: Plenty of parking...come down and check it out.“
“Overall our dinner was very good. One disappointment was with the Hamachi Kama, which I will order if offered. I requested the large but the portion was small compared to many other restaurants we've had it at. They also slice the collar in a way that cuts through what my family and I call “the tube” where fatty goodness resides. Every other dish we ordered was yummy and portion was good. Service was little slow with the Sushi sets but probably due to only having 1 sushi chef?“
“We were craving motsunabe and had never tried the Motsu Spicy Chige Nabe before. It was absolutely delicious! We were very happy ? It wasn't very spicy but they didn't skimp on the motsu! ? The motsu teppan is always a must for me! So good with hot rice or as an appetizer with sake ? Servers are very sweet.“
“A Japanese artisan sushi restaurant located about 15 minutes walk from Ala Moana Shopping Center. From Waikiki, you can take the No. 2 bus to the store in about 10 minutes."Sushi restaurant in Honolulu"I thoroughly enjoyed the sushi with its freshness and taste that overturns the concept ofMoreover, the cost performance is good!Lunch is takeout only.At night, if you want to drink alcohol, you must bring your own.I miss Japanese food in Honolulu! I want to eat sushi! I want to eat something delicious! If you think so, you should definitely go!“
“The sashimi was good, but the rolls were not.We enjoyed the sushi boat which was a bit pricey, but it eliminated the need to pick individual items off the menu. Even the shredded daikon and the bed of garden greens on the boat were really fresh. There was a tofu appetizer (seemed like the tofu was very lightly fried) that was excellent. The sushi rolls were subpar. Did not enjoy the volcano roll. Panko flakes were stale and hard.Service was average.“
“Service was 5+ starsThe food was amazing, we only ate from the happy hour menu due to heading to the airport.Overall a wonderful experience! The bartenders were so helpful and several servers stopped by to deliver or clear plates and everyone was so personable.Friday 3/22 4:30 pm“
“Update 3-21-24: Their sushi and sashimi platters are really fresh and tasty and their services are good. Workers are very friendly too. They have a self-ordering kiosk now, so it's easier to order takeouts. I usually use their website to order food in advance. They also have pre-made bentos you can grab to go if you are in rush. FYI- the type of fish they provide on their sushi/sashimi platters depend on the availability so what's shown on the photos may not always be available.“
“Fresh n lite tempura, everything savory. My husband likes all u can eat buffet so we know we r gunna pay more to satisfy him. I eat "like a bird" but Happy Bird"here n we all know that "If Mama bird ain't happy---ain't no body gunna b happy"“
“This was a gem that I'm extremely glad I visited. I ate here twice over the week, as it was very affordable and extremely delicious. Each meal was between $20 and $30 with tip. They do not serve alcohol or even Saki, however the Airport 7 store next door does.I did take out each time. The Miso soup was fantastic. The service was very quick, and the prices were far cheaper than I would expect for fresh sushi in Hawaii.“
“The Sushi is so delicious and it felt right to eat healthy and delicious food at this place. The Customer service was absolutely great and fast. We were coming back from the beach and having the miso soup was warm and tasty to give our bodies the best relaxing flavors we need it at this time. The Ambiance was nice and casual/relaxing. We were looking to stay comfy and find a great place to eat. Love it! ( I can come back tomorrow morning and everyday) What we ordered: Seared Salmon Toro Two orders of Unagi and seared salmon sushiTempura BentoDragon Maki“
“Had a really great experience at Morio’s. Was able to get a last minute reservation due to a cancellation. The restaurant is small and felt intimate and friendly, Morio came around to offer some whiskey, and the servers were very attentive and kind, taking the time to explain each course and paid attention to preferences. The food was amazing, cooked to perfection where it was cooked, and the sushi/sashimi were so fresh. It was basically fine dining in a casual setting.“
