“I was looking for "good cake noodle place" for Aunty's BD family party (food theme was Chinese) and on the Yelp, I typed "best cake noodle", then this place hit! Located at the Chinatown Cultural Plaza face to River St. This place is very cozy restaurant but the lady is very friendly and nice. We felt we were very welcomed. We did phone order, ~2 House Special Cake Noodles (gravy on side), 1 Sauted Garlic Ong Choy, and 1 Sauted Choy Dum- and we were told in 15-20minutes to ready. (The party size was small) House Special Cake Noodle has Choy Sum, Shrimp, fish cake, and sliced meat in a gravy, the noodles are fresh fried and after poor the gravy, the texture became soft and tasty. Sauted Garlic Ong Choy and Sauted Choy Sum were both good!!! I love this place and would like to try different menu next time! Anyway, we parked at the Chinatown Cultual Plaza parking, no validation but still cheeper than other parking. (In 30min is free 31min to 1 Hour is $1, after that $1 each additional per hour. If you just order for to go, I recommend to avoid exactly lunch time, it was easy to find the parking spot.“
“This place has the BEST Baked Manapua, bun is so soft and lots of delicious filling. It’s located in Chinatown with street parking only, but it’s so worth it if you ever get a “gotta have it” moment for some really good Manapua. Next on my list, Jian Dui, I’m sure I won’t be disappointed!!!“
“This place is amazing! We came here on a date night then brought the kids with us 2 days later. Everything we ordered came out promptly and tasted great. Highlights for me were the oysters, eggplant, and pork belly with enoki. We will for sure be back!“
“This small restaurant has free parking, on the Ewa side of the building. Since there is limited parking stalls, I phone in my order and try to pick up my take out before dinner rush. Usually there's only one waitress and she is friendly and provides a homey feel to this cozy place. Chinese New Year's Day is their busiest day of the year. This year there was one young man, helping with take out orders and it took 1.5 hrs to fulfill order. The Shanghainese culture is not very well represented in Hawaii. This is the closest I can get to chao niangao (炒年糕 'fried year cake'). These non-glutinous, rice, flour cakes are cut into medallions and stir-fried with chicken and vegetables. Note, this restaurant is not Shanghainese but an overall representation of Eastern and Taiwanese dished. This place reminds me of home cooking but often times I feel Popo's one tasted better but I'm comparing their food to a childhood memory, which is not fair.“
“Stopped here for lunch based on other Google reviews and the food didn’t disappoint. A sign of a really great chow fun is when the noodles aren’t clumped together and everything is perfectly seasoned and pulled together over a hot wok. It’s an unassuming spot and out of the way from usual tourist areas but worth checking out.“
“Two co-workers and I found ourselves at Fun Station for lunch after striking out at several places. This was our initial visit and we each opted for the Beef Tendon with Wonton ... Two of us chose funn while I went with egg noodles. Our server upsold us on two dishes ... Spring Rolls and Crispy Pork. The broth of our soup was very subtle; perhaps too subtle for my palate. The tendon needed a bit more time to soften; the wonton were very good. I didn't get egg noodles ... It was more like angel hair pasta than the egg noodles I craved. The spring rolls were very good but the highlight for me was the crispy pork ... Wow, this was a dish that stood out from the rest.My co-workers thought the food was good but we all thought it was a bit expensive ... $27/pp. Would we return? That's a question that remains unanswered.“
“My sister and I got the chicken sandwich combo. Serving size was great - we split the sandwich and there were plenty of fries for both of us. Nice breaded, crispy chicken patty with mayo and lettuce. My sister liked the sandwich so much she ordered popcorn chicken to go ?. Service was fast and efficient. Employee offered to cut our sandwich and was super kind. Nice that the place was away from the Waikiki crazy, too.“
“Wowwwwww. Best hot pot I've ever had. Meat was delicious and fresh. Golden chicken broth was heavenly. Get the vinegar lime dipping sauce (you're welcome). Place is BYOB so we grabbed beer next door. Will definitely come here again!!!“
“5 out of 5 stars for sure! This is a Buddhist restaurant meaning everything is vegetarian. However don’t think you’re going to chew some grass. Every thing is cooked, with options for tofu, rice, noodles, turnip cakes, vegetables. I always opt for four choices $18. Then I get to taste many options. Parking nearby streets or in front of the post office. Make sure you pay parking because downtown is patrolled pretty often.“
“For this week only 1+1 has Jai on the menu for the new year. It comes with 2 scoops of rice and is piping hot. Soo ono and healthy. It's a sweeter teriyaki-like version and I'm glad I tried it. For a healthy and prosperous new year better get here soon.“
“Do you want local grinds that's ono plus generous portions to boot? The bonus is your wallet will smile when you have to pay. The hamburger steak (hand made), garlic chicken and garlic pork chops will make you a believer. Street parking only so best to call in your order and it's made to order. Just a suggestion, order the regular instead of the mini. Toss salad is available and no rice option if so desired. Even the take out container will amaze you. Enjoy!“
“Nice little shop in Honolulu if you want Chinese cuisine. After quite an experience going to Mori on Waikiki beach the day prior, we decided to visit Chong Qing and needless to say, we needed this. Great food, attentive staff. Cold apps, to the entrees, was great. It felt like home. So definitely give this place a try if you're in Honolulu.“
“Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii...Looking for a late night meal, we searched our Yelp apps and found Volcano Skewer House. Located on the Ground Level of the 808 Sheridan Center, we found free street parking on Sheridan Street. Service was very friendly and welcoming - especially since we didn't have reservations. A table was being cleaned when we arrived, and we were lucky to get it!We ordered the beef, chicken, and lamb skewers - and asked for "no spicy". A small bowl of spices was placed on the side, but the chicken skewers were still spicy hot. The lamb wasn't too gamey, and the beef wasn't too tough. There was a tray which stayed warm by candles under it. The skewers were placed on the tray. Our used skewers went into the designated receptacle. We also had the scallion pancake - crispy and a bit oily. The Garlic Eggplant was disappointing. It smelled delicious, but had a spicy topping with strange flavors and some kind of noodles. Overall, it was a fun experience! We enjoyed the whimsical decor and were happy that we didn't have to cook our own food! Next time, we should get the mushrooms, corn, green beans, and bean curd!“
“I used to live around this area, it's my go to place if I can't think anything to eat. My favorite zhajiang noodles and spicy dumplings. I've been trying other stuff since then tomato beef stew noodles also very good. Spicy black fungus refreshing with good amount of garlic. Not to mention the price is decent for bowl of noodles. If you dine in the also served you mung bean drinks, as far as I know mung bean drinks is good for your health, also cooldown your body. Now since I don't live around this restaurant anymore I do Uber and very glad the takeout tastes as great as dine in.“
“This is my second pho experience in the district and I can 100% this one was best so far. I really enjoyed the broth and the beef was very fresh. The greens were also bright and crisp. Amazing service, definitely will come back. The pho was amazing! Note that they recently had a name change to golden river, same owner/staff. The place can be empty at times but I think it’s because the lunch crowds eats fast.“
“It is a clean, small family owned Chinese restaurant. I Have been going to this restaurant for years. Love their Dan Dan Noodles. I always eat in and take out extra dishes home. They have recently expanded their menu. I Highly recommend this restaurant.“
“I felt compelled to write a review because of how absolutely delicious the combination duck & roast pork were. I have eaten a lot of roast duck and roast pork in my life (SF, Chicago, Seattle, Vancouver, BC, London, Beijing, and Mei Mei is among the best.I ordered the combination roast duck and roast pork which comes with rice and vegetable. The duck skin was thin and crispy. The duck meat was tender and flavorful and not too bony. The roast pork was exceptionally flavorful and tender as well. The skin had a good crunch.I am looking forward to my next meal here.“
“I came here for the first time in four years this year.Surprisingly, Mr. Wang retired last year...There is a cheerful Japanese man in his place, but it would definitely be better if he was a little more friendly!Too fussy.Steamed shrimp and spring rolls remain the same. However, this time, the teppanyaki beef pepper grill and beef and broccoli (katayaki version) were delicious.-2017 May-Mr. King!thank you as always! !“
“My favorite spot to visit when I'm on Oahu. It is a departure from the touristy spots with the usual clientele, and caters to locals that want to relax with a drink, watch some sports, and have some great food. These are Chinese dishes with a Hawaiian spirit, and they always hit. Mandatory for me while I am on island are a salmon belly plate lunch, GauGee, and Lup Cheong fried rice. Other dishes that have my heart are ginger fried rice, fat fat special chicken, chicken gizzards, and fried ahi plate. Even fried lettuce is surprisingly tasty, even if just once. I have had maybe a third of the menu so still quite a bit of flavors to uncover and explore. I look forward to doing that over the next several decades. Would be remiss if I didn't mention friendly service. Can't say enough great things about an essential establishment for me.“
“Open in Chinatown near the canalGood selection of foods and drinksIf you are looking for hipster refreshments do t go thereBut if you are looking for the neighborhood place that has good drinks and a small but well prepared menu this is the place to go. It's not haute cuisine. More like going to your aunts house and getting fed.“
“Looking for the best char siu in Chinatown Honolulu? Kams meat market is the place! Her char siu is juicy and flavorful. Tucked inside Oahu Market on North King st. look for the stall with the dripping golden pork, duck, chicken, and char siu on display. You know it's good when there is a line of kupuna waiting to order and that is how I stumbled upon Kams. Try it for yourself.“
“One of the better dim sum places I've been to. Good menu, all dishes were tasty and tasted differently. Waitress was great help in deciding what to order. Portions were generous and prices were reasonable. Very highly recommended this place.“
“I had their minute chicken cake noodle. Probably the best iteration of the dish I’ve had in Hawaii: delicious sauce, tender chicken, and superb quality noodles. However, the prices of their menu seem to change based on the cashier of the day. Kinda sketch.“
“In a word, fantastic! As a takeout order, we ordered the Yang chow fried rice and fried mochi puff (a deep fried dumpling with minced pork filling). The fried rice was well done i.e. the rice did not clump together and the shrimp were de-veined nicely as well as a pretty big portion. As for the fried mochi, it was fried fresh as it was piping hot with a nice golden brown hue. The place is located on a somewhat sketchy part of town (i.e. N. King St) but it's well worth the commute if you are in the mood for good Chinese food.“
“This has been my family's go-to place to get Look Fun for years on end now. They have different types of- a plain type, some have green onion in them, and some have meat/shreds of char siu as well. My mom makes them with soup/turns them into something similar to Won Ton or we just eat it as is with fish sauce. Still super Ono either way!“
“I came across this place a few weeks ago. Normally I'm not a fan of Chinese fast food. This place has so many selections to choose from. I ordered the brisket, roast duck, roast pork, and beef tendon. They are really good for the price. Their portions are big too. I'm glad I found this place.“
“Food is actually pretty good I usually do take out! So I finally went down there to eat Richard is a funny guy makes you laugh and the goes in the kitchen and cooks the food fresh. I ordered the bitter melon with pork and sweet sour pork it comes with soup and crispy gau gee. Braised pork belly is one of my favorites too! Check it “
“My go to when im craving seafood black noodle and sweet sour pork in Honolulu. Sign on the outside says Northern Chinese Cuisine but they serve kim chee, takuan and onions with black bean paste as starters. There are other similar restaurants in Oahu but this is the best?Portions and taste makes you come back for more, everything is served hot and right out of the kitchen. Parking can be tough during the day but evening free street parking is available. Service is adequate, when its busy you just have to flag them down. 5 stars???Parking: Meter parking in front and side streets and paid parking in back“
“Every time I come here, the food slaps. It is not easy to find a good skewer place in the US let alone Hawaii. The meat is always well marinated, and more importantly they have a very good accompanying sauce. It is sweet, savory, plus a little bit of kick. Perfect for dipping.“
“As a Chongqing girl, I can tell this is very authentic Sichuan food! I always use Mapo Tofu as a test and it didn’t disappoint me - the color and the taste of numbness is as good as it could be done in Chongqing.Price is very reasonable. We spent less than $80 for 4 ppl.“
“You can't go wrong no matter what you order❗The best?⤴⤴The dark soup, fried rice, jajangmyeon, and gyoza are also the best?New menu recommendedasparagus, mushrooms, and chickenStir-fried food is awesome. It goes well with fried rice! The shop owner had his leg cast in a cast.He was out at the store.Take care ❤️“
“This is the place to go to for Chinese food. Probably the best fried rice I’ve ever tasted. Super fresh and very tasteful. Also ordered the plum button meat and the roasted duck. Super good food. 10/10 would recommend. Best Chinese food I’ve ever had.“
“This new dim sum spot has taken the place of the old Mandalay restaurant on Alakea Street and it is good. So glad to have this option closer to Bishop Square. We enjoyed a few dishes and everything was delicious. Plenty of space, great for large groups and parties, quick service and convenient location. Check ‘em out! ??????“
“Love getting the lechon or char siu here. Very delicious and juicy meats - not dry at all! It's a pretty popular local place, so there's usually a line on the weekends, but it's definitely worth the wait! The price is affordable and reasonable for the quality of the meat. Super Ono and fresh - always!“
“Hawaii is known for their manapua. If I'm ever on Oahu I usually get them from Chun Wah Kam and take some back to the mainland. Or have family and friends bring some back for me. This is a chain so they have many locations on the island. For a chain the taste is superior. Can't go wrong with the traditional Char Siu, but my favorite is the Kalua Pork. It's not always on the menu. Get it when you can. I prefer the steamed manapua over the baked version.“
“We are so lucky to have an authentic Chinatown here in Honolulu with little shops such as this who are doing it right! Succulent moist meats served on rice with a side of bok choy. You can also buy the meats by the pound to take home. I love this place. Super authentic and delicious. Very reasonably priced too. My photo shows a charsiu mini plate?“
“I went to see the NPUSA Izumio Water booth. Left there totally educated and bought merchandise. Have never regretted it. Helped me in more ways then you know. Right across I bought $5 Bentos. So dam delicious and filling. She is open till she sells out which is fast. So go early. We stroll over to Yoas desserts...dont ever skip that. But plz plz walk past @sushi...so rude and rude and rude. Will never ever buy squat from them. Best haircutter / hair stylist / threader Ilean at the 1 and only salon in there. She is such a great person to have ur beauty needs met. Lots to see and explore... my go to place. Try and do a visit...u won't regret it.“
“Great value for the price. Everything from house specials to their ala cart selection is worth it too. Looks like their hours has changed post COVID, they are only open till 2 PM or till they run out. I highly recommend the Oyster Sauce Chicken with Cake Noodles.“
“I have been here about 5 times and since I wasn't familiar with the menu options, I would see what others were eating and ask for recommendations. The food is excellent! Very tasty and cooked to perfection. The veggies were crunchy just as I prefer. Serving size was descent for the price. The staff were very helpful and the restaurant was clean. They even give complementary dessert. I always come here when I am in the area. Dine in and take out. I tend to order about 3-4 entrees with lots of leftovers to take home. Support local businesses, folks. Good Chinese cuisine at this establishment.“
“The food is really delicious. It's delicious even if you pack the leftovers and reheat them the next day. And the rice is really delicious. However, staff service is terrible. Even if there was an order mistake, it closes at 9:30, but there are customers at 8:30, so the hall has to be cleaned, and the staff is not interested in the customers, so the customers have to call out loud to come.“
“Love this place. Food is always good and portions are great. They always answer the phone when I make a phone order. Their crispy gau gee is one of the best. Big and meaty! Also, you save a little money if you pay with cash instead of credit card. Go try um out!“
“Really enjoyed the beef chow fun at the Waikiki location so wanted to come to the Chinatown location to try since it is $4 cheaper for the beef chow fun. it was excellent with lots of wok flavour for $13.99...portion is average but definitely not huge. good for one person. also had the hot hong kong tea for $4.50 and it was excellent...very authentic hong style steeped tea. I also had the hot pot rice with pork and anchovy for $15.95 and it was just okay...not spectacular. we also had the Singaporean fried vermicelli which was also excellent. we really enjoyed our meal and the server was very friendly and helpful. we will be returning before end of the month before we leave for home.“
“It's been ages since I last dined at Moon Garden Restaurant in Liliha, and what really motivated me to come back here for a meal was a picture that my Yelp buddy - Tami C. had posted on Yelp. It was a picture of a Minute Chicken Cake Noodles with Choy Sum. Yes gangies, if you ever dined at Moon Garden Restaurant, they are known for their Honey BBQ Char Siu Ribs (you must order it one day in advance)!!! How good are those Honey BBQ Char Siu Ribs? Bruh, those ribs are broke da moufth ono!!! I'm gonna go out on a limb & say it's da BESTEST Honey BBQ Char Siu Ribs that I've ever eaten!!! Unfortunately, Bruddah Fran no longer eats red meat or pork (old people problems, Lol!), so those deeeeeeeeeelicious Honey BBQ Char Siu Ribs will have to go on da back burner. No worries, cuz da Moon Garden Restaurant makes other excellent dishes like - a Minute Chicken Cake Noodle dish! Came here with my friend Jennifer C., as she's a big noodle fan. I ordered my Minute Chicken Cake Noodles, & my friend ordered the Rice Noodles w/Preserved Vegetables & Meat. What can I say about the grub??? The Minute Chicken Cake Noodles was enjoyable, & very tasty! I was surprised that they used Chinese Cabbage with my dish, as I was expecting Choy Sum, but I guess they used whatever vegetable that was available that day. My friend Jennifer enjoyed her meal, and no complains from us, that's for sure! Service here was on point. If you decide to dine at Moon Garden Restaurant, the restaurant is on the smaller side, so I'm not sure if you should make reservations before coming here. There is free parking available just to the right of the building, as the parking lot is shared by other businesses.“
“The OG cha Chaan teng place in Hawaii !If your Chinese and you lived around the area I can guarantee you eaten here, your parents eaten here, and your grandparents eaten here. With all the new ones popping up in Honolulu and how expensive they are they don't got s on kukui cafe. Only drawback is it gets really busy and they don't have much seating. My go to here is jing wonton , bacon egg sandwich , and hot milk tea or persevered lemon drink (haam ling chut). Runs me about $20. Good wok hey here for wok made stuff.“
“Hands down the best hole in the wall, yet not whole in wall Chinese joint ever!We always order the Beef Flank and Tendon egg noodle and hubby orders the look fun, and we add wontons! It's Heaven in a bowl! The tendon is nice and tender while the beef practically melts in your mouth...and the wontons, the wontons with a blend of chewy ground pork and pieces of shrimp round out the deliciousness of the wontons! If you get the jook, make sure to order early because they run out! We lucked out today and they still had it.And the Chinese donut....oh they make it fresh to order so it comes out piping hot and crispy! We didn't order it this time but their look fun roll is full of carbs but...but it's worth every calorie, try it, trust me. You'll be fat, but a happy fatty!I highly recommend this place, it's good and it hits the spot!“
