“They make great Large Ice Macchiatos! I highly recommend. Don't go too close to closing time - they closed a couple of minutes early on us one time. But otherwise everything has been great - even the shakes which I recommend also. They are good at making custom drinks as well. We like a regular macchiato - no flavor with liquid cane sugar instead - a favorite in my household.“

“The Dairy Godmother is an Alexandria staple. Our family has been going here for years. The custard shop has a variety of sorbets, three different custard a day, bakery items, and a fabulous sparkly wand for the dairy godmother in all of us. Another great thing about the Dairy Godmother is you run into many other community members here enjoying time with family and friends. You can enjoy your ice cream in the shop, out on the benches, walking the Mount Vernon Ave. strip or across the street where you can look at the different dog murals.“

“I love the hot cocoa from Dolci Gelati at the National Zoo for Zoo Lights. I bought 1 for me and 1 for a friend & went back again for a second night for more on the last night of Zoo Lights. Whipped cream, chocolate & caramel syrup is added to the top. It’s the best treat on a cold winter night or day at the zoo. Thank you!! I’ll keep coming back & bring friends.“

“This place is wayyy too expensive for me to go here but my girlfriend looooves their ice cream more than she loves me, so I've been here a few times. I don't like flavored ice cream that much so I usually get plain (not vanilla!) when I get ice cream, but you shouldn't do that at this place. The flavors actually add to the ice cream instead of take away from it. The texture is good too, but that's true of a lot of places.

So I would say, yes, go here if you can afford it. And if you like ice cream.“

“Van Leeuwen is always a solid choice for ice cream. Although it is pricey, you can get one of their pints in a store at the same price as a scoop from the shop. It's still nice to go try things out though, and get unique flavors, like the Penn Quarter Porter x DC Brew, which was quite yummy“

“Lulabelle’s is an absolute gem in Petworth. They hands down have the best coffee on the block, their espresso drinks are soooo delicious and you should try the cold brew on tap! The ice cream is to die for, hands down best ice cream in DC and the pastries and other foods are creative and delicious. My personal favorite are the injera crisps and the little fridge full of artisan cheeses!

The space is on the smaller side but they have an adorable outdoor seating. I also love how kid-friendly the place was , including allowing kids to draw to decorate the space! “Having seen Ice n Slice on Instagram, I ordered a doro wat pizza and cheese pizza for the kids.

Both pizzas had a nice yeasty crust. The cheese pizza was actually very lovely. The tomato sauce was slightly sweet with a little nod to Ethiopian spices.

The doro wat pizza drew us in. Obviously you can’t get much more creative (or iconically dc) than a doro wat pizza. There were pieces of chicken baked into the pizza, as well as little crumbs of feta. It was rich and succulent, heavy without being over the top.

The pies held up well through the drive home to the suburbs. That being said, both pizzas were $64, which while definitely worth it, is a little steep to become a frequent occurrence.

“We went to the Mono (Georgetown) location and our burgers were excellent. The staff was friendly and the space was clean. There was outdoor seating enjoyed by many, but we chose to sit indoors and people-watch in the charming, bustling area on a Sunday afternoon. Great experience as out-of-towners!“

“We went to celebrate a birthday by getting The Crazy Mason and we had a great time. The service was outstanding! It is the best service I have had in a while. Two young ladies served my large group and they were fast and efficient. I placed 11 orders received everyone in less than 15 minutes and spent less than $100. Although some ordered the same desserts, I was still amazed at the swift service. The desserts were very delicious. A few of us order the strawberry shortcake bowl 10/10. The children rated the cotton candy fluff an 8, it was super sweet, and the cookies and cream a 9. The shakes are very thick!!!!! We had the banana pudding and the sweet cheesus they were also sweet but delicious and we rated it an 8.5. The store is somewhat small but cozy. My large group couldn’t stay long because the outside seating was filled. Overall the experience was great.“
