“Higher Grounds is the coolest store ever. My husband and I stopped in twice during our Portland stay from out of town. We bought a variety of THC products and found the prices reasonable and quality to be exceptional. It’s a calm and ambiant place free from judgement. The menu is unique—you can order single bites from several of the apps, which makes it easy to try a bunch of things (and every one hits). Think broiled Maine scallops, broiled Maine oysters, beer-battered cod cheeks, even foie gras with truffle.

The eggplant terrine? Better than Nonna’s.

Finished with the steak au poivre—cooked perfectly, with a cream sauce you’ll be thinking about later, and a silky, perfectly seasoned potato purée.

“I am the kind of person who scoffed at vanilla ice cream. I thought it was boring, plain, blah. So when I went to Zephyr Ice I had planned to ask if I could just get the shaved ice— no ice cream. I am so glad I didn’t do that. This is the best ice cream I have ever tasted, and the shaved ice of course was flawless. I can’t go often because of the distance, but whenever I do find myself near Portland, I dream of this place.“

“Walked into the Portland location at 7:57 on a Saturday when they close at 8:00 and they graciously served me, even though it was clear they had finished cleaning up for the night. I am a regular at the Scarborough commissary throughout the summer and this was my first time visiting the Portland location. The staff all said hello to me with a smile and conversation and had no problem packing a few rolls for me to go! Great staff and always consistent food!“

“Best food I ate in Portland all week (including upscale places) was the lobster bisque from Chef Ryan. Oysters were GREAT as well. Family friendly. Chef Ryan’s whole menu was top notch and the kitchen staff was so nice. Ty came up and offered to give my young kids a lobster lesson over FaceTime (was here for work). Lizzy was excellent at the bar for our group. Ashley was amazing and welcoming to our group. Couldn’t recommend more. But def order the menu items and not just the lobster!“

“We wandered in today and sat at the bar. We were so impressed with both the service and the food. The bartender was cordial, friendly, and extremely attentive. We had a flatbread that was absolutely delicious and chicken, bacon ranch salad with house made ranch that was exceptional. Closer than any. We don’t have a flatbread company near our home sure wish we did.“

“Everyone needs to come here! If you don’t like rum or gin you’d be surprised as they have amazing drinks. A lot of their rum has scotch/whiskey vibes. They infuse their gin with things like strawberries and raspberries and make their own tonic. The music is on point, board games are here to be played and an indoor/outdoor vibe. Idk what you’re waiting for.. get over here! Also shout out to the bartenders are they were both lovely humans!“

“We rented rising tide for our wedding welcome party- it was the perfect spot!! We got to personalize the space but did not feel it needed much changing. It rained and the tented outdoor area was so helpful. The staff were so lovely and easy to work with all the way through and the pricing was very reasonable. “This place rocks and I had the best $11 lunch. The puffy avo and shrimp tacos are my favorite. I went early and it wasn’t busy so I was able to get a little solo work lunch in and the server Luis was SO nice and welcoming. I also didn’t realize the have a kids changing table in the bathroom and most places in Portland aren’t kid friendly so I think I’ll come back with my kids soon because I’m already hungry for another taco and a happy upbeat welcoming atmosphere.“
