“Stopped and had lunch at this establishment! My husband and I like to try different BBQ places around the KC area. This has definitely been one of our favorites. The amazing customer service started the moment we walked in the door. The selection of menu items were very unique and delicious! After we finished our lunch our server came by with our check and that’s when we let her know that this was our first visit. We were quick to let her know that we were very satisfied with the service and the food. Before we finished paying for our lunch the owner stopped by our table. This is something we do not experience at a lot of places. While we were visiting with him our server came back to the table with a few samples of some of their side dishes. This time the chicken shawarma was delicious, the baba ganoush was delicate and packed with flavor, their lentil soup was beautifully spiced. “Tried this local Gem for the first time tonight. it was by far the best BBQ my husband and I have ever eaten. The Pork belly burnt ends & brisket were melt in your mouth. The jalapeño sausage were the best my husband has ever had. The BBQ sauce was complimented the meats and was also very good. The street corn salad and lemon slaw were unique and would definitely recommend. Planning our next outing already to this place.“
“Our dinner was very good. I got a beef brisket sandwich and fries. They have great cheesy corn, and potatoes are also good. We also got a fried mushroom appetizer, which was yummy. Our waitress was very attentive and got our refills right away also. They were super busy as it was a Friday night, but she was still great! The portions are really big. I ate that night, had leftovers for lunch the next day, and still didn't finish all of the food. Wish I could remember our waitresses name. It was her first night there but she was doing great!“
“This place is AMAZING. We found it by accident as we were driving through on our way north. Hands down the best vegan soul food I have ever tasted. Collard greens were complex and flavorful, the corn bread was absolutely luscious, and the sauce on the vegan brisket was out of this wold. If they were in Minneapolis I'd eat there every single day. The space was bright and cheerful and the staff was incredibly welcoming. What a treat!“

“Came here for a quick bite before a Kansas City game. A family run restaurant with fresh ingredients and friendly service. They have a variety of food options including sandwiches, bbq and tacos. We tried their pork tacos and the pork was full of flavour and spiced deliciously. You can also tell all the ingredients are fresh. A great place to try if you’re in the area or heading to the stadium as it’s not too far from it.“

“We shared a combo plate and a chili. Both were great the ribs and brisket were one of the best we have tried in KC this year !!We also bought a smoked turkey for thanksgiving it was great and easy to heat up.I would recommend it if your anywhere near !“

“Beer has gotten much better over the years. BBQ is alright, a little dry and plain as far as flavor but serviceable. Owner's father makes brown sugar bourbon which you can buy a bottle of at the restaurant, quite tasty. You can also get cigars here!“

“I stopped by on the way to Montana to grab a quick bite and they were under construction. I told them I was just passing by and they offered to fry some fish up for me. I loved the hospitality they showed, I love the batter on the fish, it's well seasoned and very crispy. I didn't get to try anything else unfortunately, but if it's fried and has the same batter it'll be delicious regardless of what it is. Next time I'm driving through, I'll have to stop by again.“

While they appeared small, they were packed. The beef and pork were seasoned well. The patties were not oily like most places and yet still good. The fries were addictively tasty. Despite being full, everyone was eager to help finish the fries that we overordered.“

“We went for a family meal and our experience was very good. The gold ticket goes for the bread and the cinnamon butter. I am vegetarian and they also have really nice selection for us.The portion of the dishes are big so you can share or take the left over at home.It is a bit pricey but worth it.“
“This is one of the best BBQ places around Kansas City. It is up there with Arthur Bryants and Gates. The food is good, although they seemed to run out of fries each time we went. Everybody has always seemed to enjoy whatever we get there, be it the ribs or some kind of sandwich. The most recent time I went, I got a ham sandwich, and I could maybe eat half of it. The portions are well sized. Since they ran out of fries a few orders ahead of us, I got the jalapeno poppers, which aren't really my thing. In my experience, the fries are just the normal kind of greasy fry you'd expect from a gem BBQ off some sketchy area in KC. The atmosphere got 4/5 because sometimes the ventilation doesn't work 100%, and the smoke from the big smoker fills up the place. Great place overall, reccomend you visit.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp on the inside if you'd like to easily get down to the floor to order food.“

“We ate out a week ago at a very expensive KC restaurant and spent stupid money. So this week, we did Longhorn. We split a ribeye, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, salad and shrimp. $85 with tip and everything tasted as good as the stupid expensive restaurant. My only critique is that the background music was a little loud, and the restaurant was a bit noisy. I live with the noisy to get this quality at this price point.“

“My favorite item at Gates is the nooner sandwich... it's so satisfying. Piled high with two cuts of meats and their BBQ sauce is top notch also. I pile on the sauce after every bite.... it's tangy and tasty. On top of that you pay under 10 dollars for the nooner.. that in my book is a deal! Also they provides all customers with free coffee.. and great customer service. Being a long time kansas citian, I remember decades ago I actually ran into Mr. Gates and his wife. Coming back to Gates always brings a little nostalgia for me. I guess this is what KC BBQ is all about. This a must try place.“
“If you're coming for bar-b-que, my picky husband said it's some of the very best he's ever had and it would be hard to beat. If you don't eat meat or are a pescatarian like me, this is probably not the place for you. My salad was nothing fancy, very basic, yet was $20. Not worth it at all. But my husband loved this place so much that I had to give it a 5 star rating. The drinks from the bar were good and only $9, which I thought was great compared with so many other places.“
