“The food was excellent and so was the service.
The plates are small and they recommend ordering several due to their size. We shared an appetizer (buñuelos) and ordered two main dishes, the chocolate cake plus a wine and it was good in quantity. My boyfriend was delighted with the pasta stuffed with chicken liver.“

“Small but busy restaurant in east village. Came on a Friday night and it didn’t get packed until 7:30pm ish. The food was an interesting mix of Korean and Spanish flavors. The cocktails were well made and delicious - highly recommend the pandan punch for a uniquely flavored drink. Order lots of small palates and share with a friend!“

“Five star everything. Wine recommendation on point. Bathrooms super clean as well as the rest of the restaurant. Charcuterie was so amazing. The atmosphere complemented the food to a T. There are really not enough superlatives for this place. (Also super value for $$). Bring a large group or just a date or sit by yourself at the bar it will be an amazing experience.
We were visiting friends/family and are from Canada can’t wait to go back.“

“Went to Greywind for our anniversary (shared with another couple) and everything about Greywind was perfection to the potbelly decor, amiable service and a perfectly executed meal from a creative menu. Chef Dan Kruger is hands-down one oof the best chefs in the city.
Vegetarian options: Greywind like all of Chef Dan’s restaurants is a vegetable forward restaurant.“

“The service, food, and wine were all on point. We loved their bar seating and were happy we chose it over the tables. It’s a place that doesn’t try too hard to seem cool- their quality food and excellent service speaks for itself. Highly recommend as a date spot.“

“The ravioli dish I had was amazing! Aside from the lack of meat, there was nothing to tip-off an ominvore. None of the usual vegan compromises or substitute ingredients here; just quality ingredients, outstanding fresh pasta, and a killer sauce.“

“The place was amazing! The inside is so beautiful. I ordered the chicken and it was PHENOMENAL. It was tender and delicious. The dish is half a chicken so it’s kind of big. The workers were very kind and polite. The service was amazing. I would highly recommend!“

“Vibes on top of vibes! We pulled up on Saturday night and it was a warm welcoming. We met Des the bouncer at the door pretty cool guy! He saw us in, they have a pretty cool layout. No wine list, but they'll try you on a bunch of wines depending on what you're in the mood for. Food menu are easy pickings. Outdoor sitting front and back. Dope staff and great service!“

“The experience at Ayza was amazing! The food is delicious (too yummy to take pictures), better than it seems on the menu. While the ambience and the food is on top I expected an outstanding experience for the chocolate (name wine&chocolate). Actually it was a little delusional because the chocolate that they serve are some little pralines that you could buy anywhere and in my opinion there’s nothing special on this.“

“Came here last night with my girlfriends and the service was amazing! This place was packed but they still accommodated us even though our reservation was for later in the evening. Justin, even found a chair with back support for my friend! Such a warm and friendly environment! food was delicious and the wine was excellent! Highly recommend“

“Vanguard was a great place to spend our evening. Isabel and Jacob took turns sharing their favorite selections on the menu, and were both incredibly delightful to speak with. I loved the open wall-to-wall windows in the front of the bar - great for a summer evening. Manny and David served us wonderful charcuterie and were very kind and welcoming. The best place to enjoy a glass of wine and small bites in all of the UWS.“

“Food was incredible! Had the hamachi, oysters, chicken schnitzel with two desserts—all were delicious. Definitely one of the best chicken dishes I’ve ever had (though I do regret squeezing the lemon on it halfway through eating it). The restaurant was small and beautiful.“

“Several things I’d recommend about THE PURPLE TONGUE. 1) The unique wide selection of rare wines. The owner Peter spent a lot of time in Asia & SE Asia & Europe. He totally understands great wines. 2) the best baked salmon in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood & I’m a salmon lover. 3) the relaxing atmosphere of his indoor & outdoor seating space. And even outdoors the massive plants section off the eatery and the sidewalk for privacy 4) last but not least the great jazz & blues entertainment which sometimes features vocalist for your listening & enjoyment pleasure“

“Extensive list of grower champagnes at retail prices - for me, this is reason enough to come to CorkBuzz, but it’s really just a great, laidback, unpretentious wine bar. For starters, their wine list is varied, interesting, peppered with the unusual, and with more than a few hidden gems. I think it appeals more to wine nerds than to oenophiles though. What excites you more on a wine list - verticals of Dom Perignon or a bottle of Marie-Nöelle Ledru? If you are the latter, then, CorkBuzz is probably a place you want to visit. Or you can be just a neophyte who wants to learn more about wine beyond the mainstream brands and varietals. One really fun thing to do at CorkBuzz is to try their wine flights that vary from the blind tasting (NZ sauvignon blanc, Argentinian torrontes, and Austrian grüner veltliner when we were there) to the sommelier’s choice (Austrian wines when we were there), to local wines and so on. It’s a relatively affordable (~$25) way to try a variety of wines from around the world. It’s always tough for me to decide between drinking a bottle of grower champagne and trying flights.
The food menu is an eclectic mix of dishes that will pretty much go with a wide variety of wines. When I was there, they were running a special of the oddly named Mermaid Makeout oysters from the Peconic Bay on the half shell with mignonette sauce and cocktail sauce. They were small, briny and really refreshing after a day walking around hot and humid NYC. Their charcuterie plates are also pretty good, but just as a warning, don’t expect large portions as they use high-end cheeses and meats. For example, one of the cheeses on their cheese plate, Montgomery’s Cheddar, retails for $45 / lb at Murray’s Cheese.
There are three choices for seating - the bar, high-top tables, or a communal table. Just as a warning, the high-tops are relatively small, so if you do the tastings and order food, you will probably run out of space and be uncomfortable. The decor is simple and classy with lots of light-colored wood. When we were there, the clientele sitting down were mostly groups of women or couples on dates, but the livelier bar area was crowded with all sorts of people. The staff is friendly and professional, but their respective knowledge of wine varies greatly from a person relatively new to the wine business to Master Sommelier (owner Laura Maniec), so it really runs the gamut.
They have another outpost at the Chelsea Market, but I find that market to be an overcrowded tourist hellscape, so I’ve never been to the CorkBuzz in that location. This one is less touristy, but very close to Union Square, so it’s easily accessible from most places in Manhattan.“

“I am obsessed with coffee and yoga and always try to find prime spots. This is one of them. Absolutely fantastic across the board! The coffee is delicious and nuanced; the service and conversation excellent; Rohith, my barista was professional, friendly and a bevy of information and coffee trivia; the space is beautifully curated with great music and art; and a back patio/outdoor oasis to boot. Go to this gem!“

“Thank you for accommodating a large party- I brought some coworkers to this restaurant and we found the atmosphere to be perfect: sleek and relaxed but not too moody or sexy. (whew!)
However, this meant that we had to do the family style tasting menu. Overall the food was interesting and tasty, but I noticed that a lot of the other signature dishes folks really like were missing from this menu. Memorable appetizers. All other courses were nothing to write home about.“

“Stopped in for a glass of wine. Lovely and varied wine list. Servers were attentive and knowledgeable. I sat outside, they have a covered streeterie and side walk seats. The interior is small and comfortable looking.
I mentioned that I was visiting from DC for just one night and they offered me some solid recommendations for music venues later in the evening.“

“Pinkerton sits on the lovely corner of N 6th & Havemeyer and I am lucky to live nearby. This wine bar is picturesque and makes me feel like I am a character in a movie. Staff is friendly and attentive. My go to’s are the orange wines; only a few wine bars in the area have them. The appetizers are elevated both in selection and flavor. Indoor and outdoor seating are both enjoyable.“

“Ended up here accidentally on a layover: Hands down, the best ramen I’ve ever had (springy, slurpy perfection), amazing cocktails (if you like gin the Japanese 75 is a must try!), and whatever the whipped cream, creme brûlée’d banana dessert was tasted like heaven. I even ordered another tonkotsu ramen to go (all the way to Florida) to bring back to my fiancé. They separated all of it, packaged it so it wouldn’t leak, and wrote directions on specific timing for heating up each item! Very impressive service. I’ll be back again!“

“A friend of mine organized a get-together at this wine bar. And I’m glad he did! It was a great find. This place is cute, classy, and comfortable. Chill atmosphere, delicious wine, and yum foods. Not standard bar food, it’s higher quality. Looking forward to going back again.“

“Was first introduced to this place a few days ago and have since gone twice! Absolutely love the atmosphere and the warmth and friendliness of the staff. Have tried a few things and have been disappointed at NO points. The bruschetta and tuna tartare are wonderful. The shrimp salad is delightful! The burger hits. The fries are great. I could go on and on. While they have a smaller menu, they do what they do really well. A perfect place for a catch-up with friends, date night, an evening of me-time - whatever you want! Love that there's no TV and just light jazz playing - it really works to eliminate distractions and means you can hear your friends! I loved my experience so much I'm actually gonna be back here next week but what a delightful meal - definitely working this into my stable UES rotation.“

“Ruffian has a rather unassuming appearance to it. A long narrow, skinny bar, minimalist decoration, low lighting. A small outdoor patio offers extra seating in the nice weather.
Ruffian features natural wines on its list. A big selection from eastern Europe. Don't worry, they will guide you. The menu is heavily veg focussed. We ordered 4 shareable dishes. Sourdough & oil, miatake mushroom kebab, white bean dip & swiss chard. I know what you will say: they all sound rather pedestrian. They are anything but. The flavour nuances the chef has imparted are intriguing and delicious. In our ten days in NYC the mushroom kebab with crunchy rice & pickled radish may have been our most outstanding dish.
The dishes paired beautifully with our 3 varieties of orange wine & rose wine. And guiding us through all of this was the talented Colin from behind the bar. He is well versed in the food & the wine profiles. It was a pleasure to follow his guidance.“

“Cozy little wine bar in Midtown East. This is a great spot for a chill date. Probably not good for larger groups. There were very few cocktails on the menu, in light of the bar’s name, but you can of course request any classic cocktail. Lots of wine and food options too. The bar is nicely divided up into a front and back room. The back room is a bit more chill and quiet, so you can easily find the right vibe for the evening. The surrounding area can get a bit rowdy in the evening, but inside you’ll feel cozy.“

“My friends & I went to Vinoteca last week and had such a wonderful time. The wine is very refreshing & delicious!! I love the fact that it’s self-served. To top it off, the food was out of this world!!! The staff was very kind & attentive and I would recommend Vinoteca to all, but, most importantly to all the wine lovers. You would soon make this your to go to place. We had such a great time last week, we will be doing it again this weekend. Come along, hopefully I’ll see you there!!“
