“There are a couple of places in the city that do this AYCE Omakase style now, but I think Sushi Hayashi does it best! We've been twice and loved it both times. It is unlimited sake (Junmai or Nigori) and beer, and they are very generous with the pours.

After 14 courses (including some very interesting flavor combinations), you get two chances to order as many as you want of 4 types of fish. The other places I've been to only let you order once, and that creates a lot of pressure since you don't know how big the pieces will be (or how much rice will be included). While the unlimited pieces are plain and unadorned, unlike the 14-course, they are still very good quality fish and a great fish to rice ratio.

You finish off with some delicious matcha ice cream - some of the best we've had. The staff is very friendly and keeps a good energy throughout the meal, and you don't feel rushed at all either.

“The Japanese and Italian flavors mixed well and are to come back for. I stayed in the hotel where the restraunt was attached. In the area, with a focus of cocktails and table service for an upscale environment, it was delightful.

“Ended up here accidentally on a layover: Hands down, the best ramen I’ve ever had (springy, slurpy perfection), amazing cocktails (if you like gin the Japanese 75 is a must try!), and whatever the whipped cream, creme brûlée’d banana dessert was tasted like heaven. I even ordered another tonkotsu ramen to go (all the way to Florida) to bring back to my fiancé. They separated all of it, packaged it so it wouldn’t leak, and wrote directions on specific timing for heating up each item! Very impressive service. I’ll be back again!“

“We had an amazing experience here this evening. The atmosphere was extremely relaxing and chill. The simple artistic decor creates a serene atmosphere. The food is delicious. We especially loved the beef tartar, duck, miso cod, milk bread, and shirt rib. Sticky toffee pudding was rich, but somewhat delicate. Cocktails were well balanced. Everyone was extremely attentive and the attention to detail made the entire experience one to cherish. I highly recommend this place. It's tucked away, but worth the trip. “Sushi Makoto was a very fresh experience. The selection of fish was standard but the other appetizers and dishes were unique. The vibe is awesome— with a little more intimacy than some other omakase spots in the city. As well, for the price point, the value here is great. I’ve paid more for less in the city and it feels like these days it’s hard to find “good” omakase for under $200 PP. Corkage fee is very reasonable, and their sake cooling decide is almost worth a visit in itself!

My only quarrel is that it took some time to get seated, for a reservation at 7, a lot of the guests from earlier were still dining and we weren’t sat until closer to 7:20. Which isn’t the end of the world, but something to perhaps note from a business side. Lastly, I would’ve liked to be offered more at the end of the meal instead of being given the cheque. Perhaps that’s standard protocol but it was not offered to us our evening there.

“Lovely! This was a perfect birthday dinner celebration. The staff is gracious an inviting from the second you ring the doorbell. The space is beautiful although the enclosed garden was a little bit hot. I'm glad it wasn't hot or out and I'm sure it would be perfectly cozy in the winter.

The food was beautifully presented, deeply delicious and thoroughly explained. Even the chawanmushi, which looks deceptively plain, was a delicate swirl of flavor layers.

We had 12 courses and never felt rushed.

Would highly recommend for a special occasion meal.

Huge shoutout to the impeccable service: we were 30 minutes late stuck at traffic, but they still graciously held our table. They even surprised us with vanilla gelato with honey and kinako on the house, easily one of the most delicious scoops I’ve ever had.

It was such a fun and interactive experience making our own hand rolls from a sashimi platter. We loved being able to enjoy everything at our own pace, customizing each piece with a variety of dipping sauces and special salts. It really encouraged me to slow down, savor every bite, and fully appreciate each piece.

We were greedy to try more so we got one more kaishindon. Expensive but you get what you pay for: uni, ikura, scallop, toro, a5 miyazaki wagyu, caviar, and more. Every bite was pure luxury and satisfying. I only hoped I could only get this don as I was too full after finishing the sushi set, but they require at least one sushi set per person.

To be completely transparent, my bf found a small bone in his sashimi. He was given a completely new set, and they even treated us to king salmon nigiri. We really appreciated how proactive and thoughtful they were so it didn’t affect our overall experience at all.“
