“Best falafel in the neighborhood, Pita Hot keeps on delivering great food when I’m sick, when I’m drunk, when I’m coming home from work, or I just don’t want to cook. My favorite spot in Astoria they’re the sweetest people“

“Love a corner restaurant! Staff is always so cool and welcoming. The cocktails are well designed, the space is dark and comfy for groups but I think it’s especially sexy for a date night. I know that offer a few fun happy hour “girl dinner options”. However my obsession lies with the chicken dinner, which normally would not be my go to at a spot, but this dish has a hold on me. It’s such a good size that you could share it but it’s also so delicious you don’t want to. The chicken is pounded thin but still juicy and subtly sweet, comes with an amazing pairing of crazy creamy polenta and this somehow addictive kale, but the true star is the smoky sauce that I want to bathe in. So divine! If they ever got rid of it I would cry.“

“Get ready to clutch your pearls: I've not yet been to Abuqir.
Gasp! Shock! Horror! Won't someone please think of the CHILDREN???
In my defense, doesn't this mean my review of Le Petit Pecheur (which always makes me think of George Bizet's underrated opera, for all you Romantic Era nerds) wil be...purer? No annoying comparisons and such?
I digress. We came, we seafood-ed, we smiled.
- Fried Sardines: My favorite dish of the night. Perfectly breaded, lightly crispy, totally filling, yet not briney or heavy. I think I'm in love....
- Baba Ganoush + Hummus + Pita: I forget why we ordered these, but they were tasty and creamy and made a nice distraction while we waited for our entrees.
- Grilled Octopus: Perfectly chewy and zesty, exactly the kind of poulpe you might enjoy on the beachy coast of the southern Mediterranean.
- Scallops: Also well cooked, and tastier than they had any right to be considering the simple seasoning.
- Shrimp Linguine in butter garlic sauce: I mean, you really can't go wrong with a dish like this. My only regret was having to share it with five other friends.
- Branzino: Butterflied, tender and full of flavor. There are many branzino dishes out there. This one won't break the bank, and will leave both your stomach and your wallet happy.
If you need more, definitely pad your meal with Mashed Potatoes and Fries because carbs are happy things, and happy things deserve to be eaten.
Space is ample, as are the portions, and service is quick and friendly. They play a lovely mix of North African French and Arabic music, which just adds to the beachy resort town atmosphere, IMO. Perhaps one day I'll finally make it to Abuqir, and the cycle will be complete.“

“Avenue has been one of my favorite neighborhood spots in Astoria for quite some time. It's one of those restaurants that's versatile enough for a casual brunch or coffee, while also being a great choice for a nicer dinner out with friends or family.
The food has always been consistently good. My favorites are the tabbouleh, the steak and eggs, and the turkey and Swiss sandwich. Everything tastes fresh, well-prepared, and thoughtfully put together. Their coffee is also excellent and one of the reasons I find myself coming back.
The restaurant itself has stayed fairly consistent over the years. While a few decorative touches have changed, it has maintained the same welcoming atmosphere that makes it feel comfortable no matter what time of day you visit.
The only difference I've personally noticed is with the staff. During my earlier visits, the service felt a little more polished and attentive. The previous team really helped create the welcoming experience that many regular customers came to expect. More recently, the service has felt a bit different, but I also recognize that newer staff members need time to settle in and build that same rhythm and familiarity.
Overall, the quality of the food and coffee keeps me coming back. Avenue remains one of Astoria's great neighborhood restaurants and a place I'd continue recommending for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or simply a good cup of coffee !!“

“The octopus is PERFECTLY cooked. The flavors are incredible. I only wish it came with some potato or salad underneath. We also got the lamb fricassee, that sauce is so lovely and lemony. I think the lamb was just a touch over cooked but that is my only note on that dish. We got a half portion of rice on the side and I would recommend so you can savor every last bit of the sauce! The service is great, and I love the atmosphere. It feels like old New York and you are surrounded by Greek families in the restaurant. They gave bread with a delish vinegar and the end of the meal was a nice rice pudding dessert on the house. I will definitely be coming back!“

“I got a chicken gyro to eat inside, the lady asked “with everything?” and I said yes. Usually “with everything” means that it has fries (and no lettuce). The one I received did not have fries (it had lettuce). Disappointing. It was still great and had crispy gyro meat. I ate inside the restaurant and at some point a worker opened the door and a horrid dishwasher sewage smell blasted out, in my direction. I had nearly finished eating at that point but my last bites were difficult to swallow.“

“I stopped in for lunch and asked for a recommendation. The kind gentleman told me to have the lamb shank and sit back and relax. The outdoor seating was great on a nice day and the food was even better. The Lamb shank fell off the bone and the sides were great too. Highly recommend going.“

“We went there for lunch on a whim on a weekday. The place is tiny and clean and doesn't look fancy. The food was Balkan style - either Serbian or Croatian - and it was very good. There was only one person working there and she took care of us well.“

“This spot is absolutely beautiful and tough to get a reservation for. Having gotten the chance to eat there I understand. Big parties book this restaurant for not only the space but the delicious food. Tried three spreads, their spinach side, and their salmon with rice. Was too full to order dessert but will definitely be back to try more. Bathroom was clean and the servers were so nice.“
