“Willis Avenue in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx is a landscape defined by industrial resilience and the constant, rhythmic churn of local life. Here, where the architecture feels heavy and history is written in the asphalt, Villano Pizza operates as a vital center of gravity. For those willing to navigate the trek from Manhattan or the deep reaches of Brooklyn, the reward is a culinary experience that reminds us why we look to the boroughs for the city’s soul.
While the sign says pizza, the atmosphere tells a different story. Stepping inside feels like finding a vibrant slice of Mexico transported to the Bronx. The space is energized by Mexican decorations that break the monotony of the industrial street outside. It is a super cool, visually rich environment that serves as a reminder that food is inseparable from identity and belonging. This is not just a shop; it is a cultural crossroads where the Italian American pizza tradition meets a deep, proud Mexican heritage.
The story continues at the counter, and it is a rare narrative in the often transactional world of New York slice shops. To enter Villano is to be met with an atmosphere of authentic, unforced joy. The staff here do not just serve; they host. They are polite, informative, and possess a contagious happiness that suggests they are exactly where they want to be. In a city where service is frequently a hurdle to be cleared, the hospitality at Villano is the destination itself.
The menu reflects this dual identity with a deep respect for tradition. You will find the staples: the Napoletana cheese round, the thick Siciliana, and a sophisticated Vodka Grandma pie. But the soul of the place shines in offerings like the Mexican Grandma pizza and the Rigatoni Vodka slice. The appetizers go beyond the standard, offering items like oreganata wings and burnt broccoli, providing a level of variety that encourages exploration.
The first bite confirms that the kitchen is operating at the same high level as the front of house. The crust is a structural triumph, offering a soulful, perfect char and a crispness that holds up under the weight of generous toppings. The sauce is equally impressive, balancing a rich tomato depth with a brightness that highlights the freshness of the ingredients. The Meat Lovers slice is a particular standout, a super delicious and indulgent entry point that manages to balance its heavy toppings without compromising the integrity of that excellent crust. Whether it is a classic pepperoni slice or the more complex Spicy Pepperoni Upside Down pie, there is a consistent excellence in execution.
Villano Pizza feels like a hidden gem that has outgrown its local boundaries. It is priced for the community it serves, yet the quality of the food and the caliber of the service would be at home in the city's most expensive zip codes. To eat here is to participate in a broader cultural narrative about the value of kindness and the power of a well-made meal to bridge the distance between boroughs.
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Price: $ (Inexpensive)
Recommendation: Truly worth the trip from anywhere in the city. Order the Meat Lovers or the Mexican Grandma slice to experience the heart of the shop, and enjoy the warmth of a staff that makes everyone feel like they belong.“
“Greek Yogurt is the absolute best! Fresh and rich in taste! Portion sizes could be a little bit more generous. 🥲 Highly recommend though.“

“Consistently great food and one of the go-to spots around Montefiore. Cozy, classic Italian atmosphere without trying too hard. The menu is solid across the board, but the chicken parm and pastas stand out personally for me. Hard to make a bad choice here. The place, the people, the food—all good quality.“

“I love this place. The service is great and the staff is very nice. The main guy who makes the pizza is polite and friendly. He speaks both English and Spanish. The pizza itself is great. I hate when pizza places burn the bottom and the crust, but they never do that here so I can eat a whole slice and not waste anything. The prices are also reasonable.“

“Metro gourmet deli is an absolute gem located in Parkchester Bronx convenience of having such a great spot nearby is unbeatable, especially when you're looking for a quick bite The prices are surprisingly reasonable, making it an easy choice for anyone in the area. I order platters from here for an event and the presentation of it was great and it was delicious. Their juice bar/ smoothie bar is the best in the whole Bronx. The staff is always pleasant and welcoming, which adds to the overall positive experience. And let me tell you, their carrot cake is to die for—easily the best I’ve had in a long time! Whether you're in the neighbor this place is a must-try.“

“Listen your not gonna get the authentic Italian pizza experience. But for the neighborhood your gonna get the best experience for the neighborhood. Beats out any hood pizza place. I dont eat in at many places but I definitely eat in here. Honesless people try to panhandle inside but the staff steps in with the occasional "Please my customers alone!" which is very very very appreciated. If your a returning customer and have a familiar face the staff will give you a fist bump and treat you well. I love coming here and I recommend everyone else come here also. It's owned by a Dominican man named Giovanni and he's the man. He has a lot more Italian selections than any other place and it is appreciated as an Italian myself.ConsThe atmosphere needs updating. New seats and tables are needed.I order a burger and never get pickles lol. I always have to askthe meat balls are always cut up and can use a better recipe.Support this place! they deserve it“

“This is not a fully vegan establishment so be careful when ordering. I had the buffalo chickn wrap and it was pretty good. Also had the Apple Carrot Cucumber juice which was not physically appealing, but was by far one of the most delicious juices I’ve ever had in my life. Thank you“
