“If you love bold flavors and a good spice challenge, Curry Soup Garaku is the place to be! Their spice levels range from 1 to 40, making it perfect for everyone—from mild spice lovers to heat daredevils. I tried Level 30 (definitely not for the faint of heart!) and had to tap out after a few bites, but their lassi was a lifesaver. My partner finished Level 30 like a champ, though not without breaking a sweat!
I ended up switching to Level 5 and absolutely loved it—so flavorful and balanced. The curry soup is rich, comforting, and packed with delicious ingredients. They also have $1 chicken wings during happy hour, which are a great addition to the meal.
The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy, perfect for a fun date night or a casual hangout. Highly recommend for anyone looking to try something unique and exciting!“

“Loved everything about this place! We stopped by late night and had a bunch of their robata as well as some sashimi and tartare.
The robata was top notch. The charcoal grilling was done skillfully, adding smoky flavour to the skewers while the meat was cooked perfectly. My favourite was the chicken yakitori, but we also very much enjoyed the beef tongue, beef short ribs, ton toro, gizzard, and chicken skin. The shishamo was a bit on the salty side, but the grilling was done very well.
We also ordered the salmon belly sashimi and the toro tartare. The salmon belly was very fresh and presented nicely on ice. I also really enjoyed the toro tartare. The presentation was on point and the combination of textures and flavours was just right for me. The raw dishes were a great contrast to the robata!“

“Haven't been to Yuu for a while and we went back last week. Price didn't go up much despite the inflation. Kids order some special drink and the staff even gave them a small ice-cream cone to top it off. Great gesture. Would definitely be going back more often.“

“Hamachi carpaccio (from daily special) 10/10 we all loved it
2x scallop uni cream fettuccine (my personal favourite)
Sakura shrimp & shirasu
Pulled pork ragù fusilli
Yuzu ice cream (from daily special) - I personally loved this one, it was fragrant, light and refreshing, perfect for ending off a carb heavy meal
Service was great, food arrived quickly despite a full restaurant. Staff are very attentive. I’ve dined here multiple times and will continue to recommend Wasuta to others.“

“Me and the wife had the 88 dollar all you can eat menu and it was super worth it. Food quality was great, taste was fantastic, and the service was exceptional! Really really enjoyed our dinner experience. The only slight negative would be the 2nd order came a bit slow but that’s okay considering the quality did not dip.
Will be back again !“

“Really enjoyed lunch with the curry tendon on rice. Staff was friendly and had a very nice atmosphere. Pleasant Japanese music was playing in the background. Each table had a small traditional dish of pickled daikon. Yummy. Street side parking just outside“

“The chicken sashimi bento box includes a piece of chicken karaage and four tempuras, of which two are shrimp. $21.50 as of April 15, 2025. No discount for lunch.
Everything was a cut above the usual bento boxes. Tempuras and karaage were crispy but not greasy. Cabbage separated the BBQ chicken from the rice - a nice touch. Sashimi pieces were thick and firm.
Decor is well kept; place is clean. It’s not Tojo nor Miku, but then, neither are the prices. Recommended.“

“Had lunch omakase yesterday, and the ingredients were incredibly fresh. The chef and staff were very friendly and talkative! I was delighted to try a new sake. I can confidently say this is the highest quality omakase I’ve had in Vancouver—better than the two Michelin-starred Japanese restaurants I’ve tried before. The only thing I think could be improved is that the flavors were a bit on the salty side. If they were a touch milder, it would better highlight the freshness of the ingredients. We also celebrated our anniversary here, and the staff were kind enough to take a photo for us.“

“What an experience! Was warmly welcomed in right at 5 when they reopened. Server was beyond friendly and very prompt. I ordered the cheese katsu and could not believe how good it was! That mixed with the unlimited rice and salad, and the amazing house dressing made it even better.“

“Atmosphere had a great vibe. Unlimited soup and rice bar is a plus. I had a steak, and it was just so-so for the price. It was undercooked , but i felt i was suppose to leave it on the teppan plate a little longer.. the sauce was too sweet.
My partner had the hamburger steak and that was great. Service was great and attentive“

“Since hubby misses Japan (the food especially) immensely, I decided to bring Japan to him for his birthday! It was more than we could've hoped for from the gracious hosts, Chef Ray and wife Christine, to the gorgeous presentation of each course, the preparations of each item, the texture, the taste and the cosy atmosphere. We savoured each bite, while enjoying the friendly banter between the hosts and a couple of their regulars at the bar seating. Highly recommend! side note: I was impressed by just how meticulous and thoughtful they are when I saw they even put a little decor under the washroom sink.“

“The items are fresh and delicious. If you’re going for the hot comfort items the prices are reasonable. But for the poke bowls, it’s pricey any where you get them. But there’s definitely value here.
I love the ikura!
Next time I’ll try their tuna and chopped scallop bowl.“

“The place is neat and tidy.
Staff are friendly.
I love the Udon. The taste was good.
Kid's menu portion was generous when compared to my udon. 😆
The salmon sushi was great, too!
This is a Janpanese restaurant runned by, I believe, Korean.“

“We go here super often. We're usually a large group - sometimes we have a reservation and if we don't, it's usually about a 30 minute wait for a table during happy hour. Happy hour prices are so good, I get 2 salmon avocado rolls for $12 including tax and tip.“

“Service was prompt and friendly 🙏🏻
Ramen 👌🏻
- Chewy noodles, if that's your preference
- Rich and perfectly salted broth, so you can slurp the bowl clean
- Luscious chashu (braised pork belly)
Yakitori (skewers) were hit/miss. Ordered the omakase set - most were tender and well seasoned, while a couple were over-charred and bland.
Recommend:
- kokuton shoyu ramen
- shio ramen“

“Tsujiri at OpenRoad Toyota Richmond is a unique and authentic Japanese café experience. The matcha, green tea, and soba were all excellent, giving a real taste of Japan. While enjoying your food, you can look around at the Toyota cars, which adds a unique touch to the setting. It feels like the café is tailor-made for the Japanese management, and we’re lucky to enjoy it with them. Big praise to the management for creating such an authentic Japanese atmosphere. The Japanese staff is super friendly and welcoming!“

“The atmosphere is cozy, relaxing, and beautifully designed — perfect for studying, catching up with friends, or just enjoying some quiet “me time.” Their drinks are top-tier (especially the matcha and lattes), and the desserts are not only delicious but also picture-perfect. The staff are super friendly and make you feel genuinely welcome. It’s one of those places you visit once and instantly want to come back to.“
