“Our friends from Alameda recommended Saltbreaker. We made reservations for the next day. When we sat down, we hummed along to the 70's tunes while enjoying our red wine and cocktail. We ordered appetizers, main course, and dessert. All very enjoyable.”
“Hard to reserve seats at this 8 seat only Omakase behind an unmarked door in Alameda. Led by a quality, experience, and diner education obsessed chef who personally selects and imports most of the seafood from Japan.
It is a personally catered omakase bar service of very high quality. They also have a lovely sake selection.
Pricey, but worth it.”
“Wonderful hospitality and warmth coming from the Host Ty Do letting me know more about the Cambodian culture. And BIG Wow on the Sea Food dish: 637. SALMON IN GARLIC BASIL WINE SAUCE : Poached salmon topped w/ roasted garlic, basil, & black mushroom in reduced wine sauce. It's divine! It's my new hot restaurant spot in The Little Town of Alameda.”
“We initially tried to come here on a Friday at 7 PM but there seemed to be a long wait so we decided to check it out on a Wednesday and we only had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a table. This location was originally a Taco Bell, but I love the atmosphere there, friendly, good service and comforting food! It's a cozy place perfect for a cold wintry day to have your own little boiling hot pot of tasty broth and hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals! Hubby ordered the Lau Pork Bone Marrow and I had the Lau Oxtail. I ordered the Oxtail without the tripe, just more oxtail! The hot pot came out boiling with oxtail and beef balls. All I had to do was cook the egg noodles, taro, tofu, cabbage, veggies into the soup as there was plenty of delicious oxtail and meat balls in the delicious broth! Great for a bone chilling night! Next time I'd love to try the shaken beef!”

“Great variety of tasty dishes on the menu and the food was delicious! I loved the “secret” specials - you need to ask to find out what they are. Fun cocktail options. And, all of the dessert options were awesome! My fav was the cheeseburger - YUM! I would definitely go back!”

“I never leave reviews for spots but this place is such an underhyped gem of Alameda. The chicken is amazing and juicy, their slaw is perfectly crunchy and acidic, and their fries are fried to perfection. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS SPOT!!!! One thing to note is that this is a to go resturaunt but thats not a problem just go to a nearby park and enjoy your delicious food!!”

“Thrilled to have a one-stop Indian store in Alameda! I'm so excited to have discovered a comprehensive Indian store in Alameda, conveniently stocked with all the essentials we need.
The store offers an impressive range of food options, including delicious home-style North Indian dishes that remind me of authentic flavors. This has been a lifesaver, especially during our kitchen renovation when cooking at home was a challenge.
Previously, we had to travel to Fremont for small items, but now we can find everything we need right here in our own town! Kudos to the store for catering to the local Indian community's needs and providing a welcoming shopping experience. I'm grateful for the convenience and variety they offer, and I look forward to continued patronage.
Only one little suggestion to keep some Indian veggies including curry leaves , green chilies etc”
“Amazing Owner, beautiful atmosphere and thee most delicious food. All around a 10/10!”
“Everything we’ve had here is so delicious!!! Our faves are the Tom Kha soup, BMV platter, Pad Kee Mao, Chicken Satay, and Mango sticky rice dessert…all so very yummy!!!”
“Final date night before flight home tomorrow. Sausage plate. The British bangers are super flavorful and juicy, goes great with the spicy mustard sauce! The bratwurst is perfect with the kraut and horseradish. The smoked bison is a bit on the dry and spicy side. Reminds me of a Slim Jim. I wish I tasted more bison, but it's still good. The herbed goat cheese and lavash bread is to die for! The herbs are perfectly balanced with the cheese and spreads so easily on the bread! All paired perfectly with Zin-phomaniac red wine!”

“Super friendly staff and generous portions! I got the spring rolls with tofu and avocado added and my parter got the tofu and mushroom banh mi (with avocado instead of mayo, since we're both vegan.) Both very delicious. Also wanted to try the spicy seitan sandwich but didn't see it as an option until later – next time!
Dietary restrictions: For vegan options they have tofu offerings, and can sub in avocado instead of mayo. Also a spicy seitan sandwich but not sure if that's going to be a permanent menu item.”
“Exceptional all around. A more elegant menu than most restaurants in the area. The people seem to enjoy working there, so the service is friendly and accommodating in an unobtrusive way. The food quality and menu selection is excellent. If the weather is decent, try the patio! We did and it lent a casual elegance to the evening.”

“Very solid noodle spot in Alameda. The chicken wonton/noodle soup was flavorful/kid friendly, and we enjoyed the Taiwan beef noodle soup, zhajiang noodles, garlic cucumber salad and spicy wontons. I liked the chewy thick-cut “sharpened” noodles. I believe they have bbq skewers at dinner (we stopped in for lunch). We’re excited to try other noodle dishes and the Taiwanese braised pork & rice when we return!”
“This place serves joy by the cup and happiness by the bite. The coffee? Bold enough to turn any morning around. The tea? A perfect hug in a mug, no matter the weather. And the pastries? Golden, flaky bites of pure magic that might just ruin other desserts for you. The vibe is cozy, the staff is friendly, and my taste buds are still doing a happy dance. 10/10, would abandon my kitchen for this place again.”
“I'm from Italy (have lived in Philadelphia for 20 years), and I was in Alameda in 2015 for a friend's wedding. I happened upon this place, and what a joy! Not only is the owner (who ended up at our table, where we had a lovely conversation) Livornese (I'm from Tirrenia, a province of Pisa), but the food was incredible, AND he knew a number of people that I knew! It's been five years, and I really want to go back some day. BOIA! CHE GIOIA!”
“The restaurant only for the reason of speaking another language within it the employees take Gonchi out of you is Can by the hair also they steal your belongings we made a case for the police”

“This place is sooo good for empanadas and arepas!
We got the birria arepa and the banh mi arepa, a cheesy bread, passionfruit juice and chicken empanadas.
Arepas were pretty filling, we had chicken empanadas for later and those were so good also! I love the flaky crust and the filling wasn't dry at all.
Will definitely be back- all the flavors were delicious!
Heads up that this place is more of a takeaway situation- there's no seating inside. Some small cafe tables are available outside on the sidewalk.”
“Judging by its name you can't really tell what kind of Chinese food Ark Chinese restaurant offers. I think it was probably a noodle restaurant focusing on items from northern China. However it seems that the new owners have hired a cook that can also make Cantonese dishes. As a result the menu is more extensive and there are quite a few selections to choose from.
We ordered the pan fried green onion pancake, hand pulled beef noodle soup, tomato beef chow mein, beef stew noodles and sweet sour ribs. All were fairly good but I should note that the flavors were quite intense...as in too much salt or too much sugar. If you do pay a visit, keep that in mind. You may want to tell them to cut back on the salt and spices.
More importantly the prices are quite reasonable for a restaurant on Park Street in Alameda. Entrees, dinner items, generally run around 15 dollars or so.
The decor is ho-hum but the dining room is certainly quiet....perhaps too quiet , or maybe we were there too early. They could use some flowers or some paintings to liven up the place. Maybe play some K pop or something. The wait staff are friendly and helpful though.
if you're looking for an inexpensive place to eat before you see a movie or just in the area, give Ark Chinese restaurant a try. The food might assault your taste buds but the prices won't assault your wallet.”
“We had dinner there tonight (3/14/24) for the first time and we will be back. Two of the most interesting and truly delicious sandwiches we have ever eaten. I can't remember what mine was called, but it had chicken (roasted perfectly), sauerkraut, cheese and other awesome stuff on a grilled rye bread that was excellent. My bride had the turkey sandwich and loved it. But the star of the show were the Tater Tots. Perfectly crisp with BBQ sauce to dip them in and then into some wonderful real bacon bits. Every tot stayed crisp from the first to the last. The meal was worth every penny and more. Get into the Alameda location and try it. You won't be sorry. PS: The only bad part for me is that we live in Seattle and won't be back down until May. But you can bet I will be eating here then.”
“We visited Alameda in April to attend a celebration of life for a family member that we lost suddenly. Our family was in town from all over the country, and we found Cafe Jolie Petit near our hotel. They took such great care of us, fed us meals on three or four consecutive days, and we could not have asked for better service or food during an emotional time. Pastries (Koiugn Amann!), Monte Cristo, and the coffee bar were our favorites, but everything we had was delicious. We hope to be back for happier circumstances at some point, and definitely will return!”
“Webster street sure has changed since Alameda was a Navy town! Places like the Sandwich Board have replaced Navy bars, girly joints and tattoo shops that fronted for other things that go bump-bump!
So, I whipped into the Sandwich Board to see if anything looked the same...it doesn't, but I'll tell you what..The Sandwich Board kicks out a screaming good sandwich! ☆☆☆☆☆”
“First time here and probably last time too. I hella liked how the inside was decorated reminded me of a restaurant in Japan. Kinda disappointed though. I hella love sushi. But the sushi selection was small. Nothing caught my eye. The only thing I did enjoy with my meal was the ikura. The waitress’s don’t even check up on you to see how your doing. We we’re seated all the way in the back. I asked for more water and it never came. And for those 2 reasons I won’t come back.”

“After attending Saturday Mass with a friend, we decided to join a couple of ladies that go to Rang Dong's often. It was only a block away from Central Avenue and Webster. The vegetables were fresh and the soup broth was great, however the chicken was over cooked. I was in love with the fresh vegetables. I would go again to try something different next time.”
“The staff here are AMAZING! Is this a dive bar? Yes. Are they gonna look at you funny is you try to order a speciality cocktail that you’re used to getting downtown San Francisco? Yep. But that’s the whole point, you’re here to drink traditional and familiar fantastic drinks! I started coming here with friends a while back and over time many of the bartenders and other employees became like friends! As a woman I always felt safe as they had their eye on everything going on, and I always had a blast anytime I came. Specifically, Peppi and Michelle, really went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. I had to move away and they spent money out of their own pockets to throw my a going away party at the bar. I have never experienced a closeness like this to an establishment where I’m a guest, and it was very appreciated. I am moved away now and very much miss the service and atmosphere I had at Lucky 13!”
“I can not express how impressed and blown away I was visiting Neptune’s today “on accident”. I was driving past neptunes today and we ran into car trouble right in front. We got out and pushed the car into the nearest parking lot which happened to be neptunes. We had just bought a used car in the neighborhood and was trying to make it home and the battery just died. We spent some time pulling out the battery and ran next door to the auto parts store to buy a new one. Out of the blue an employee walked us out some water and said “I saw you out here and it’s hot. Wanted to give you some water and ask if you needed help. “ blown away by his kindness I thanked him but we had it covered. Once we got the battery replaced I decided to get breakfast from Neptune’s to show my thanks for their hospitality. Wow was I blown away. The breakfast was amazing , the coffee on point and the hospitality was unmatched. I give 5 stars for all in. My youngest son said. That guy is a good man! And I agree if you’re looking for good service and great food. Stop here! You won’t regret it.”
“Great location and selection of food and the selection is expanding from what I hear! Kid friendly and a great place to have birthday parties, happy hours, or for any reason. Indoor and outdoor seating options (dog friendly outdoors). They also have lots of TVs for MMA, European, Cricket, and all sports fanatics, inclusive of Baseball, Basketball, and Football! VJ’s also has a FULL COCKTAIL BAR! Great beer selection as well! The owner and his staff are all great. Come by and check out VJ’s! It’s next to the UPS Store at Marina Village.”
“My Mother and I enjoy eating here periodically. She loves their thick, Belgian waffles while I usually opt for the sausage only or sausage and mushroom omelet with tater tots. I cannot eat the entire omelet so I take half of it home for breakfast the next day. Service is quick and friendly and prices are reasonable. A nice, low-key gem in Alameda.”
“I decided to check out the Boathouse from a suggestion from a friend. I loved the nautical theme and huge patio, which would be amazing to sit at on a nice day. Janet was bartending when i was there. She is super nice, fast, and great at her job. She had the best music playing too! I will definitely be back.”
“This is a jewel in the neighborhood. Busy in the weekends and the food is amazing. I had the ground meat, egg and rice dish. Yummy! Had an ube latte, super yummy. My daughter had the avocado toast and a tasty matcha with strawberry. Service is friendly and competent. Vibes are mellow. Come here!”

“Hands down our new favorite brunch and dinner spot on the whole island. Generous portions, delicious and interesting menu items, shockingly fast service even when they are slammed. The Thai fusion brunch is really fun, but they still offer some classics like French toast, pancakes, waffles, and an egg+bacon breakfast if you're not feeling adventurous. We have now tried *almost* everything on the menu and a few stand-outs are the Tom Yum Reduction, Pad See ew, and literally anything with a waffle, pandan, or fried chicken. The mango sticky rice for dessert is a must try, also. The folks giving this place less than 5 stars are trippin. This place is AMAZING.”

“Faction Brewing is a wonderful, local brewery! On a perfect day, enjoy a beer or cider on their patio overlooking the San Francisco Bay and city skyline. Catch it on a gloomier day and you can still enjoy a crafted beverage in their large indoor spaces. We host our annual donation drive here in the spring and the staff is always so fantastic. Highly recommend Faction Brewing!”
“As the namesake implies, it's just your average blue collar type 'corner' bar, and that's part of the charm. Not trendy, not bougie, great modern jukebox with priority streaming of your favorite songs, for a slight fee of course. Would you have ever imagined that one day your childhood jukebox experiences that forged statements like "ugh, who put this one on? they probably already left and now we have to listen to this cr@p before our song" and to further shape our complaint into creative criticisms to "one day manifest our desired wishes for the day we could override and be played next"... Well friends that day had come! Ok, it's been around a while now but I don't go out very often so it's new news to me and you know what Gary Gnew said? " No gnews, is good gnews, this is Gary Gnew, goodnight". The peeps are mellow, the drafts are cold, they have a decent billiard table with a sign up board (formerly this was a couple quarters shoved under the lip on the table) and it's only $1.00 a game and there isn't some hot shot hogging the table making themselves feel good by running the table against people just trying to have a good time.”
“This is the best PHO on the Island. It really hits the spot on a cold day. The servers were friendly and accommodating even though we arrived close to closing time. Checked back with us to make sure all was well and really made it a very pleasant eating experience.”
“This tea garden is a charming place with a peaceful atmosphere. I ordered a sustainably sourced tea and the pot was beautifully presented on a quirky display stand - a real delight! The salmon toast was rich and flavourful and clearly made with high quality ingredients. However, compared to other fair trade options nearby, I enjoyed my visit and would happily return for a special treat!”
“Was looking for a place to eat on my birthday new years day, my stepbro picked it out, he said he ate there 20 yrs ago, I was reluctant as it looked outdated and empty, but I was surprised when the food came in quickly, the staff was friendly and the plates of food were huge! I kept asking my bro if he accidentally ordered family size, nope. We ordered egg rolls, 1 order must have had 10 pieces! Delicious spare ribs, wonton soup, honey walnut prawns (jumbo!) Mongolian beef, they gave us almond cookies instead of fortune, that was a nice change, there was so much food leftover to take home, I'll be going back, I don't know how they can afford to give so much for so little $, very reasonable.the only thing was the place was so cold, we were both freezing. no heat!”
“Coleslaw is slamming. Sweet tea is delicious and flavorful. Dino rib juicy and tender. Barbecue sauce not too sweet. Perfectly tangy. Potato salad good, cools off your tongue from the hot sausage.
Nasi Goreng, yum.
The line was fun, people are cool. You can have a good time there.
Staff super helpful.
Can't wait to come back for the chicken and the brisket.”

“Great selection of food for everyone. We had a picky little, a vegan mama and a nigiri lover and we were all satisfied. Good amount of food for the price. Biggest bento box this side of the bay! Highly recommend you call ahead and reserve a table, they get pretty busy for dinner.”
“We ordered 2 meals at the same time. One came out in 10-15 minutes. I waited, then asked someone to check on my meal and nobody came back to the table. A few minutes later, which was about 20-25 minutes from the original order, I asked someone else to check on my meal. The server came back and said the kitchen was slow. The meals were ordered at 1:30 pm and now it was almost 2pm. They wanted to know, if I wanted to order the meal. I said to take it off the bill, as my companion finished her meal 10 minutes ago and we had to be somewhere. Then, I had to go to Burger King. Very disappointed with Applebee's.”
“Would love to see this place thrive as it has good vibes. I had a great experience but can't help but feel it could easily be better. Service when I visited was very slow and it was hard to find a spot to sit. Loved the live music, but please turn off the radio so there are not 2 songs playing simultaneously . Some of the dishes could use an extra element to take them to the next level. For example the loco moco is overwhelmingly heavy and could use pickled onions or something to brighten it up. The gravy also tasted odd, maybe using too many burnt bits. The Hawaiian French toast was awesome but a bit dry, and I had to ask for butter and syrup. Would be great with vanilla ice cream or some kind of sauce to tie together the loose buns sitting sparsely on the plate. Maybe I just chose the wrong items? Will be back eventually to try the malasadas.”

“As someone who just moved to the neighborhood and is currently 9 months pregnant, I was craving some good Dim Sum. Decided to take a chance on Uber/Postmates delivery. I was blown away and pleasantly surprised. Food can warm and toasty and the food is AMAZING! Will definitely come back in person to try more options. This is the best Dim Sum thus far and will be my newest pregnancy craving moving forward. The dumplings are SO GOOD! Presentation, Quality, flavor etc. with soy sauce and chili oil - Chefs kiss 💋 I would have provided a picture for my review but I inhaled it before I could start this review 😅”

“I have at least one, often two burritos a week and am always looking for more gratifying flavor profiles for the $14-18 that they now cost. This place is the first place in a long time to really ‘wow’ me with great tasting Mex food. More and more these days taquerias seem to be using, for example, flavorless sour cream, or carne asada that is just…okay. Taco Fino delivers. Treat yourself.”
