“Ended up here accidentally on a layover: Hands down, the best ramen I’ve ever had (springy, slurpy perfection), amazing cocktails (if you like gin the Japanese 75 is a must try!), and whatever the whipped cream, creme brûlée’d banana dessert was tasted like heaven. I even ordered another tonkotsu ramen to go (all the way to Florida) to bring back to my fiancé. They separated all of it, packaged it so it wouldn’t leak, and wrote directions on specific timing for heating up each item! Very impressive service. I’ll be back again!“

“The ramen 🍜 here is really good and the quality of the food is impressive. Ramen 🍜 bowls costing around $20.

I also tried the curry chicken 🐔 rice. The portion was a bit small, and the chicken was quite shredded, but the flavor was still pretty good.👍

The restaurant is clean and pleasant🥰. My only complaint is that the air conditioning wasn’t strong enough, especially in the hot🔥 LA weather. Overall, I enjoyed the food and would consider coming back.“

“Couldn’t be more happy about my experience today. The staff were very kind and helpful and the food was beyond fulfilling. Nothing cheers me up more than ramen and Kai took it that much higher. Something about the tonkotsu in addition to the charsiu pork absolutely reigned based on my memory of LA selections. “My wife and I are from Sacramento, we cane down to NOHO for Universal Studios. We got here a day early and we always search for Ramen. We cane across this place. The place is small and seating is limited. Let's fast forward to the food. We both got the OG tonkatsu ramen at a mild spice flavor and eggs rolls and spicy edemame. The eggs rolls weren't special, the edemame was really good. Now for the main ramen it was delicious. The broth was thick and flavorful, the meat was cut smaller than what I'm used to and it was definitely a plus. Overall I will definitely come here again when I'm in the city“

“Kotoya absolutely blew me away. I had the Japanese curry chicken katsu and it was genuinely the best I’ve ever had.

The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying tender and juicy inside, and the curry was rich, flavorful, comforting, and balanced perfectly with the rice. Every bite was incredible.

You can tell there’s real care put into the food here. I came in hoping for a good Japanese curry and left already thinking about when I can come back.

If you like Japanese curry or chicken katsu, you need to try this place. Easily one of my favorite meals I’ve had in a long time. 10/10.“

Indeed, their Takoyaki was amazing, Howard Yang! 😍 We had 2 seasonal specials, the Spicy Crispy Shrimp Roll and the cold Tan Tan ramen. Both were fantastic, albeit a bit too spicy for me. Service is super friendly. We will definitely be back. Want to try a bunch of other things, including the hot ramens.“

Food: on the recommendation of our server, who was very helpful, knowledgable, friendly, and attentive, we ordered the Takoyaki and our server's favourite Spicy Garlic Pork Shoyu Ramen x 2. The latter was described as a "spicy soy sauce tonkatsu broth with garlic is served with two slices of chashu pork, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, egg, fried onions, seaweed, green onions, and buttered corn". I absolutely love ramen, and, to me, what defines any bowl is the soup base, described by a very learned chef as "an intensely porky, opaque pale broth with a sticky-lipped intensity, with the rich, buttery texture of light cream; the best sports tiny nubbins of fat swimming around on their surface, a slick of mayu (black garlic oil) or chile-sesame paste, a handful of thin-sliced green onions, a soft-yolked soy-sauce tinged egg, and a few slices of meltingly tender chashu pork belly". The broth definitely reflected the events described, and the many hours spent in preparation, with a rich texture and flavour, complemented, but not over-powered by either the chili nor the garlic. It was a wonderful recommendation that we would order again! All in all, the evening that left us very satisfied in terms of having our hunger sated, and taste buds quite happy... the true test is whether we return, and, should we find ourselves back in the city, we would most definitely make a return trip to try other dishes!!“

Their dandan ramen has such a delicious balance of flavor with a pitch-perfect amount of numbing Szechuan peppercorn. I recommend one of their tiny spoonfuls of complementary truffle oil to make it truly transcendent. If you enjoy Szechuan peppercorn at all, this will definitely be for you. Highly recommended!“

Nice enough staff, rather busy because almost understaffed. Make sure to reserve ahead of time or come at less busy hours, had to wait almost sm hour for my party.“

“Whenever we feel lazy driving to Little Tokyo for some authentic tasting ramen, R101 in Glendale has been our go to. We first discovered this restaurant through online ordering during the start of the Covid pandemic. Every time we ordered here since then, the food and service have always been consistent. I highly recommend this place to get your ramen fix. No other ramen place in Glendale can taste as good as this!“

Now that the weather is getting colder, I am naturally gravitate to more warming foods like Ramen. I am currently on a Ramen tear so expect to see more reviews of other places that serve Ramen.

I am big fan of Mitsuwa Market, a Japanese market in Venice that is sort of a food court and mini-mall to all things Japanese. Hokkaido is just one of the establishments housed in the market. Their menu is extensive for such a small kitchen. You sit in a communal food court area that has someone clearing tables which is nice. This is a no frills kind of place so don’t expect much in the way of environment or service. Nevertheless everyone is very kind and polite. I ordered a basic pork Ramen which very good. Quality of the pork is always a distinguishing factor and here it was average. That being said the broth is also key and I found it very rich and tasty. I have been here twice now and will be back again.“

My son wanted to try ramen, so I took him to Ramen Melrose, and he absolutely loved it! Nothing makes me happier than seeing him enjoy new foods and experiences.

We tried the Spicy Vegan Miso Ramen and an Avocado Roll. Both were worth trying!

If you’re looking for a nice ramen spot, I’d definitely recommend giving Ramen Melrose a try.“

“Haven’t been here in a while and saw that they were closed before I came and now they’re open. I tried their soft opening and wow, what a difference the Ramen is now. They have a Japanese chef now as well. It’s the same good taste, but it’s on another level especially the pork they’re making it fresh now they told me because it’s very big difference and they’re gonna do that daily. Honestly, if it’s this tasty again and they keep doing it like this I’m gonna come back more often. Also order the Giza that was even better than before, but the girls was pretty good before but it just even better now. The curry rice I also got that tasted exactly the same so no changes there.
