“It's one of my favorite go-to spots for ramen in Santa Monica. I usually chose the Shoyu on Fire. During menu selection you can select up to three levels of heat. I chose medium which is the second level of heat. Even then my eyes still watered a bit. For the price you get a big bowl of ramen well worth the value“

“My dinner at Kanpai Sushi in Santa Monica was nothing short of extraordinary. Chef Yoshi is a true master sushi chef. While he may not be new to the craft, his skill, precision, and deep understanding of traditional sushi brought me back to a time when sushi was simply done right.

In fact, Chef Yoshi could probably serve me a shoelace, and it would be the best thing I’ve ever eaten.

Everything was exceptionally fresh. The wasabi had a vibrant freshness that elevated every bite, and the ginger practically melted in my mouth. I sampled as much toro as I could possibly eat, along with an incredible selection of fish that showcased Chef Yoshi’s mastery and attention to detail.

The Kumamoto oysters were so delicious they made me want to kiss my fingers and thank the heavens. The uni was phenomenal and remains one of my favorite bites of the evening. However, the biggest surprise was the seared salmon belly. It was my first time trying salmon prepared that way, and it absolutely blew my mind.

Instead of ending the meal with dessert, I finished with a hand roll that combined fresh tuna and crispy shrimp tempura, topped with eel sauce. The contrast of cool, fresh tuna and warm, crunchy shrimp tempura created an unforgettable bite and was a complete game changer.

I’ve been eating sushi since I was 18 years old, and now well into my 50s, I can confidently say this is the best sushi restaurant I have ever experienced. Beyond the incredible food, the staff was attentive, professional, and genuinely respectful throughout the entire evening.

I have officially found my favorite sushi spot.

“This was easily one of the best ramen experiences I've had in Southern California. The broth was incredibly rich and flavorful without being overly salty, and the noodles had the perfect texture. The restaurant itself was spotless, modern, and had a welcoming atmosphere that made it easy to relax and enjoy the meal. The staff checked on our table frequently and made excellent recommendations. I especially appreciated how quickly the food arrived despite the restaurant being busy. Every ingredient tasted fresh, and the presentation was beautiful. I will definitely return and recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic ramen and excellent service“

“If you've ever been to Ichiran, this is a very similar experience. You get a menu card to fill out what you want while you wait for a table to be available. I'm just going to get it out of the way, the ramen is fantastic. Get the original tonkotsu broth you WON'T regret it. The karage chicken was a solid 4/5 I'd get it again but I've had better. My only gripe with the whole experience was that it was fairly cold outside and we were sitting right next to the open door. Other than that, I definitely recommend this place, I'll be coming back for sure.“

“Incredible Spicy Inferno Ramen and karaage. Flavours were powerful and the spicy mayo sauce of the karaage was a wonderful pairing. Topped off with a Yuzu Mojito which was soothing and refreshing for the palette.

A place I can sit down and have a conversation with someone.
Something quick so I can get in and out.
Food that fills but does not bloats.

Torisoba Tonsho fulfilled all three of those metrics with flying
colors! The katsu was light and delicious, the ambiance was comfortable, and importantly the waitstaff were attentive and very understanding of the pre-show time crunch!“

“The best ramen in Culver City! I first had Ippudo in New York over a decade ago went it was arguable the top ramen spot in the entire city. Since then I’ve had it in Tokyo and now am so glad to have here in Culver. The Akamaru Modern is still as excellent and balanced a bowl as it’s always been.“

“I have had many many bowls of ramen in Los Angeles, this may be the best one ever. For once the bamboo shoots floating the bowl are actually worth eating! Usually I wonder why are they there? These were delicious. Even more so regarding the slices of pork. They are often like rubber doggy chew toys. These on the other hand were tender, flavorful and truly wonderful. Of course the most important part is the noodles and these were perfectly cooked al dente. This was a bowl of pure satisfaction. I also tried my friends scallops bowl and my wife's crispy chicken and both made me sorry I didn't order them, too. Finally, my big issue with asian restaurants in general is quality of dessert. Here is a beautiful slice of Yuzu cheesecake, presented with wonderful dollops of cream and sauce. Should have order one for each of us instead of sharing! This is the place. “Been wanting to try this place for a couple years now. Glad we finally did. Excellent food, much better than any Jinya Ramen. We had a bunch of appetizers. Indeed, their Takoyaki was amazing, Howard Yang! 😍 We had 2 seasonal specials, the Spicy Crispy Shrimp Roll and the cold Tan Tan ramen. Both were fantastic, albeit a bit too spicy for me. Service is super friendly. We will definitely be back. Want to try a bunch of other things, including the hot ramens.“

The waitress was very nice, but hard to get a hold of. There's also included gratuity if that rubs you wrong. Overall, it's worth a visit.“

“I was in the area so stopped by for their mazemen. It was delicious and tasty and the portions were very big. I struggled to finish the noodle and had to get the rice to go. Price is a little on the high side but makes sense for the quality of food. If you haven't had this style of ramen before, this is a great place to try!“

Now that the weather is getting colder, I am naturally gravitate to more warming foods like Ramen. I am currently on a Ramen tear so expect to see more reviews of other places that serve Ramen.

I am big fan of Mitsuwa Market, a Japanese market in Venice that is sort of a food court and mini-mall to all things Japanese. Hokkaido is just one of the establishments housed in the market. Their menu is extensive for such a small kitchen. You sit in a communal food court area that has someone clearing tables which is nice. This is a no frills kind of place so don’t expect much in the way of environment or service. Nevertheless everyone is very kind and polite. I ordered a basic pork Ramen which very good. Quality of the pork is always a distinguishing factor and here it was average. That being said the broth is also key and I found it very rich and tasty. I have been here twice now and will be back again.“

“The first time I tried this place i never thought I would return. The chicken was for some reason tasted too much like charcoal and was rather unpleasant. I was very saddened but figured it was a bad batch and was hoping to return for a retribution batch and I’m so glad that I gave it another chance. Torisoba, when done correctly, is a knock out out the park.

Last night left me in awe, from sampling my friend’s ramen to multiple appetizers my mouth was celebrating each bite. You could tell the food came out fresh as it was warm and took some time to prepare. The chicken soup that gets served with the fried chicken tartar and sweet and sour options is one of the most hearty and savory soups your taste buds will ever meet.

The variations of fried to charcoal chicken will leave you pointing your chopsticks and knowing your head in agreement with friends. They don’t cheap out as the bowl is filled with plenty of goodies. Top it off with some Yuzu kosho (green chili peppers and yuzu zest) and blast off into the best chicken meal you could have.

They have vegan and other options as well and their menu seems to be expanding. Try it all and I’m so glad I ventured back for this meal was truly out of the park.“

“We’ve been eating here for years, maybe 5 times a month. The service is friendly and quick. The food is delicious. I almost always get one of the ramens (I have five is six favorites) and they build the flavors carefully. I’d seriously say the whole operation is top notch. We tend to get there a bit before the rush so almost never have to wait for a table. I’ve tried my wife’s choices, (fried chicken, gyoza, green beans w/garlic, etc.) and I promise you the whole menu is terrific.“

“This Ramen is worth the 15 minutes walk from gate 130 in LAX to gate 200. Soooooo good. They are well known for the 20 hrs simmered pork bone broth. Origin from Hokkaido. It's not cheap but it's about as much as anything else inside the airport but you get amazing food. Highly recommended. I got the Tonkotsu Beef Ramen, recommended by the cashier, and it did not disappoint!“
