“I've been wanting to try different omakase places in the LA area for a while now, and stumbled upon Omakase by Ozen online - and I'm glad I came! Reservations were made quickly and easily via Yelp, and I love that I was able to change my reservation time without much of a hassle. My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate after I took the MCAT, so we were extremely hungry when we got here. I think this place might have had valet out front, but we opted to just find street parking in the neighborhood for a ~5 minute walk (which worked out afterwards since it let us walk off our food!). The actual restaurant is a very small and quaint place; we sat at a table instead of the bar but I thought the decorations were very cute. Service was very fast and attentive. They handed us a menu as soon as we came in, and we ordered the $130 omakase - which was a pretty good deal for the quality of the food and the whole experience. I do have to say that I was not full after the meal (so my boyfriend and I ended up getting more food afterwards at a different place), but I did enjoy my time here. Definitely worth a try if you're celebrating because of the food and the service, but I personally don't think I'd come back for the omakase.“
“A next level dining experience. The ability to deliver dish after dish that could stand alone as signature dishes at nearly any other restaurant while combining the refinement and attention to detail that comes from years of experience in fine dining with a fun energetic atmosphere is truly special. I wish I could have tried even more. Well worth a trip. I will certainly be back again and again to share this experience with many friends.“
“Susuru holds a special place in my heart. I’ve tried a number of items on their menus and everything is ???. I can’t stress enough about how good this ramen is. I’ve only known about Susuru for a month or so but have eaten here over 8 times. All of the broths are rich and authentic. The Thai coconut curry ramen is mind blowing and a generous serving. My go tos are the Miso and Tonkatsu. Add spice for extra flavor. I brought my coworkers here and everyone’s bowls were finished down to the last drop of broth. Easily one of the best ramens shops in LA. It’s got a great mom and pop atmosphere. Food comes out quick. What else can I say, I’m in love with Susuru. Anytime I want ramen in the future, I’m going to come here. Just thinking of it makes my mouth water. ?“
“Quality comes with a price if you want to treat those taste buds to great tasting very fresh sushi.... then check out Santo... When food is great and quality is outstanding, then it's worth every penny... agree!?... This place will have you making your next reservation right after you leave, lol.... (maybe not, but it's the type of place that you will be back for more... Staff is great, friendly and they make you feel at home... Original Santo is located in Mexico City, and if you know the CDMX vibe, then you know this place has that... Great vibes all around, background music playing upbeat music. Place is small, so outside sitting is available to enjoy a nice day or to people watch down Sunset Street... or sit next to a stranger and maybe start a conversation?!... Parking can be a hassle, street parking only, and silverlake can get crowded, so be patient Awsome, top of the line sushi with a unique flavors Definitely recommend this spot!! When you go... Enjoy!!...“
“Hidden away in the city of Los Angeles is this amazing bar that serves one of the tastiest omakase. Entering the bar, you see a bar top that seats approx 10-12 people, with a open kitchen vibe. My partner and I had a great time. The Sunday crew was very nice and attentive, engaging with the customers and making things fun! The selection of fish was amazing, definitely a different experience compared to other omakase establishments I've been to.Parking was very easy since they provided easy simple instructions on their website :). Will definitely visit again on a Sunday ??Parking: Easy to access garage and the elevator close by. Very nice :)“
“My friend recommended this market to me. It is easy to miss because the entrance is in the back. The kids like ordering the fresh seafood and although the store is small, they have a good selection of rolls along with other Japanese items. My two favorite things to get are the avocado roll which has been consistently creamy and delicious and the chicken karaage that has a fantastic dipping sauce. If you like mochi ice cream, they have a brand named “Mochidoki” that has flavors like Chocolate Habanero and birthday cake. There are also some cute items such as stationary and pet toys. There is some parking in the back that is shared with Thai Paradise and also parking on the street“
“Purely for charm and LA history, Otomisan is outstanding. The oldest continuously operating Japanese restaurant in the city, there's certainly a retro feel to this place that can't be replicated.Ever since a few well-received profiles (Vice, PBS, etc), Otomisan has experienced a burst in popularity. On Saturday, we arrived at 11:30am, which is when they opened, and already all three booths were taken. Our party of four sat at the counter, which honestly might have been the reason we had such swift service. The owner is SUPER nice and even though she was obviously totally overwhelmed with a long waiting list and a bunch of takeout orders, she handled everything with a smile and didn't rush anyone out.The food is exactly like what I had when I ate at my friends' parents' or grandparents' houses who were Japanese American, so this meal was a lovely hit of nostalgia.Highly recommend the katsu, teriyaki, tempura, edamame, and salmon roll.“
“Every dish was melt in your mouth good. Some of the best sushi I’ve had at this price point. Will definitely come back, highly recommend. The shop is a smaller spot and a bit unassuming, but the food speaks for itself. The staff were also extremely friendly, allowing us to move some tables around to meet our groups needs when they weren’t too busy. Really appreciate the visit here.“
“Sushi Kisen continues to punch well above its weight and it is 1/3 the price for the same quality as some of the now outrageously expensive sushi places in LA.For about $120, our omakase today included about 10 courses and 2 additional pieces we selected at the end. The quality of the nigiri is self-evident, particularly with the chutoro and the Nemuro uni. Another particular favorite was shiro-ebi. The chef confirmed that it is from Toyama. It should be mentioned that some pieces are ever so slightly on the saltier side (I confirmed that they do season with a drop of salt on some pieces), which I ended up liking but it might be a surprise to some. Extra points for the shari, which was flavorful on its own without taking away from the fish. I also highly recommend asking the chef if they have any seasonal items. We were very pleasantly surprised by our tsuika orders. When I do not have the time to enjoy an omakase at the bar, I would recommend their chirashi bowls.“
“Food - The best in Korea Town. When I arrived, there were three customers sitting at tables, and five to six were standing, waiting for to-go orders. This place, despite its name, is not a dine-in specialty restaurant but rather a take-out specialty. There were no servers and they were too busy to pack to-go orders.Parking: Finding a street parking spot is incredibly hard, especially on Fridays.“
“They have the best sushi ever! A La Carte or Omakase but to be able to choose what you want and it’s all extremely fresh and good quality. Great beer and sake. They play good music and it’s all around great vibes. The service was also the best around. At the end we asked for Natto hand rolls (not on menu) and they made them!“
“Ordered for takeout via the website during my lunch break-- the portions are huge for the price and great quality! Pickup was fast and efficient. The steps are a cute area to get some sun amidst the workday. Check it out if you work in the area and are looking for something different than the usual!!!“
“First time visiting and we had the omakase. The staff welcomed us like they have known us for years as soon as we walked in. The service throughout the omakase was amazing and the sushi was the best weve had since visiting Japan! Toshisan is passionate and friendly. Cant wait to go back asap! I wish I could keep Toshi Sushi to myself and not tell anyone about it, but they deserve to be successful so I chose to write this review. We are incredibly lucky to have sushi of this quality, at s reasonable price, and in Gardena no less. If you're reading this, dont think about it any longer and just go.“
“My boyfriend and I got the omakase but to be honest it was not worth it, the food tasted great but you can get almost the exact same course by ordering the 10 piece nigiri from the menu for half of the price. The atmosphere is nice but not appropriate for a traditional omakase. Highly recommend, just save your money and skip out on the omakase.“
“Our children sent us off to this dinner date while they were out of town. What a great gift. We had a cold sake with melon notes and their homemade yuzu soda to go with their excellent nigiri omakase. We ordered repeats of the sawara, kawahagi and toro taku and also ordered anago on top of the omakase. We normally don't enjoy the tamagoyaki but their castella style tamagoyaki was so good. This nigiri omakase was the perfect amount but would like to try their signature omakase in the future.“
“Chef is from Osaka Japan, he made great shari (slightly sweeter side as compared to Tokyo edomae purist style), nonetheless it was good texture, temperature. Most of fish from Japan. Kinmedai was excellent. So was Aji from Osaka. Tuna is from Hokkaido, taste similar to Ohma tuna, but slightly difficult. Chef knows edomae style and textures of fish, either natural or farm raised. Hope he carries more like Awabi, akagai, kohada, and more hikarimono next time. It was pleasant sushi dining experience.“
“Met with a long time college friend here for lunch and it did not disappoint! The food was amazing, the mala taboki was my favorite. My friend and I shared 6 Yubu, sushi roll, and a hand roll to go. Staff was very friendly and we were told our food will take 10-15 mins to prepare due to the delicate and meticulous nature of preparation and honestly didn't mind. Can't rush good quality meal! Space had ample parking, spacious and even accommodate wheelchair accessibility. You can tell the chef and team put a lot of of care into their food but also making sure all parties feel welcome King Yubu, the official King of LA“
“For the price it’s a 10/10 meal!!Service: 10/10Note: make sure to put ur name on wait listWhat I ordered:Scallop sashimi - 10/10, fresh, vibrant flavours.Nigiri sampler- 9/10 very fresh and good quality fish. A little too much rice for me.Burnt garlic ramen- 8/10 I’m more traditional in my flavours. But it’s peoples favourite.Tuna crispy rice 10/10. Can’t complain“
“Fish quality is great. Other stuff is ok. I got sick of the omakase run around (lines, reservation antics) at all the likely places. If you are looking for quality fish, and can accept everything else is being ok, this will work out for you. Chef/owner is attentive, and wants to make sure you have a good dining experience. That sounds like a great experience waiting to happen.“
“An excellent and authentic experience for sushi in the style you would see in Japan. Signs at the entrance set expectations (no teriyaki, no tempura, no noodles) to avoid disappointment from people looking for a more standard Americanized Japanese dining experience. No spicy mayonnaise, sweet eel sauce basted rolls here (though those do have their moment elsewhere in Little Tokyo). Nigirizushi and sashimi dominate the menu with mostly bar seating. 3-4 sushi chefs manage sections of the bar and will freshly prepare sushi from breaking down the fish to putting it on your platter. Ambiance and service are to Japanese tastes. The waitlist is based around having a name on a written list and waiting for your name to be called. No electronic contact or list monitoring. Arrive at opening or be prepared to wait. Prices are standard for this quality of sushi which is to say that the meal will be a special occasion.“
“I will definitely say that food is much better when you dine in vs. takeout. Made reservation for 3 on Friday night, and we were seated quickly. It was pretty full when we arrived and started to form a wait line around after 7 pm.This is probably the only place I order spicy tuna roll. as you will see from the photo, the roll is stuffed with spicy tuna. Kinda like spicy mayo tuna. Fish was fresh, and the service was great! Better food and better experience when you dine in for sure.“
“This was a solid spot for sushi! It's kind of hidden and I wouldn't have known if my friend didn't bring up the place, but the ambiance was nice! We had the premium sushi set, Orange Blossom Roll, and Sunshine Roll- which were all good. It is on the pricier side and portions are small. Service was average.“
“I ordered the chicken ramen, comes with seaweed, boiled egg, corn, green onions and your choice of protein. I thought the ramen was very good. Only issues were there is no complimentary parking so you have to pay for valet which is 6$. With the already expensive ramen be prepared to spend about 40-50$ for two people.“
“Great ambiance at this restaurant! It’s a nice surprise to find this on the second floor of Madang Courtyard. The food, although good, is a little pricey for what you get. Even the lunch bento doesn’t feel like a great value. Wasn’t particularly impressed by the service. Overall an okay experience.“
“We came for the famous $23 lunch special and we’re not disappointed! The fish is extremely fresh and the portion of fish, rice, and appetizers was good for lunch. We also got the sushi deluxe combination to split. The sashimi lunch special was the best value item!Come early to wait! We got in line around 10:20 on a Tuesday morning and got in with the first group to be seated (they open at 11 and the line is pretty long by 10:30. We found out that the a la carte menu is only served at the bar so if you want to to order off the normal menu, make sure you grab a table instead of sitting at the bar.“
“My first time coming to Sushito, and will definitely be back again once my mom and I get a craving for teriyaki bowls! Was greeted very well, lady in front was very friendly, polite, and patient when I asked her questions about the menu. Was also told about their buy 2 bowls/plates get 1 free on Tuesdays!“
“The outside of the restaurant is very low-key. You never would've known it was a Michelin-star restaurant. Once you walk inside, the feeling is warm and the restaurant is nicely lit. Here are some highlights from our meal.1. We LOVE the tamago. It looks like castella cake, but it's actually baked with shrimp and white fish. 2. The sushi was good, but it definitely wasn't the freshest I've had. The rice was on the more vinegary side. 3. BEST miso soup I've had. So much umami flavor. 4. Chef Mori makes and grows his own rice! He also makes all the beautiful serving bowls you eat from. 5. Service was incredible! They w6. The table and bar may have different dishes.7. They surprised us with a strawberry roll cake! For the price, it's a little steep since the sushi is definitely the star of the restaurant and I've had better. Nonetheless, super happy I got to experience this Michelin meal.“
“Food is good. There are a few veggie choices for vegans. Ttempura vegie dish. We got vegan ramen. One bowl is plenty for 2. The waitress is pretty and very timely. The lighting is what drew us in. We tried to go into other restaurants with extremely white light and felt like we were waiting to be asked 'who dun it?' The lighting and wood walls are warm and comfortable.“
“Had a great dinner at Kogane again. The food and service were great. The sushi chefs were friendly and gave very interesting tidbits about the fish, process and taste. The meal lasts about 1 hr and 45 min. Since everyone eats at the same rate for each dish through the course, don't forget to be on time. :)“
“Cozy, chill hand roll bar. Inside is all bar seating, which is nice as you get an up close view of the rolls being made. There is outdoor patio seating as well but it was a bit chilly when I went. Staff is really attentive. There are a lot of roll combo options on the menu but I went a la carte. I loved everything I ate - spicy tuna and the avocado crispy rice as well as the crab and the salmon roll. The person I was with ordered a bowl which was a good size. Nice spot for solo lunch or a group of two. Very relaxed vibes.“
“A 100% recommendation! The service recommended a perfect selection of traditional and special sushi with a very high quality. Taste and look of the rolls were amazing! Also the service was very friendly and incredibly warm hearted. Our personal highlight was the tempura fried ice cream.Thank you for this wonderful evening!“
“If I could eat here everyday I would. These are my favorite types of sushi restaurants to go to. Simple but far from ordinary. No frills, no heavily sauced California rolls, or flashy items just great quality sushi made as traditional as possible. Everything (that I tried) was fresh.I’m so glad that I found this little gem on this side of town. I’m coming back ASAP to try the rest of the restaurant. If you’re looking for a place to try real sushi, I would definitely put this on your list.My favorites from my visit were the Live Sweet Shrimp (fried head), Uni, Toro, Salmon Belly, Yellowtail, Scallop handroll, and the salmon collar. Like I said, I’m coming back to eat the rest.“
“Every single bite was delicious. Great service with well thought sequences of dishes. Interior was clean and woody. Reminds me of traditional sushi restaurant in Japan. Dishes and glassware were cute and were hand picked by chef's wife. Must try!“
“I always wanted to try Omakase and was in LA for the day. I had the lunch special and it was unbelievable. I have been eating sushi since the early 90s and this was by far, the best I have ever had. I would highly recommend trying this place.“
“My favorite sushi place. The quality of their fish is great. The chirashi bowls are very generous and have a lot of flavor. The service is always very attentive and polite.Parking: There is a shared parking garage behind but it’s often full. You can find street parking on the side streets nearby.“
“This is probably the most popular place to get your lunch at from students and faculty at El Camino College. Every meeting I'm at around lunch time I see someone eating from Mr. H. I really love their spamasubi and their miso soup. It reminds me of my high school days when people would sell spamasubi from their backpacks. The place has a few tables and chairs to sit on if you are looking to dine in or wait for your food. Cool thing about their service too is they have a buzzer for when your food is ready. Sometimes it takes a little long to get the food to come out but it's always hot and ready to eat when they do.“
“Honestly, was amazed at how good the sushi / sashimi was at this place. Didn't expect it from a food hall. WAY better quality tasting food than a more legit mid-level sushi places. Highly recommend coming here just for this. We got another roll to go because it was so good.“
“We had the last table in the back and the noise level was great! If you sit in the front you might get a bit higher noise level. Service was super friendly and checked in with us multiple times but not being annoying. The food is amazing! Haven't had fantastic Shusi in a long time! Price is absolutely reasonable for that quality of food. We been 2 patrons and paid $191 for so much food that we actually have been over eaten lol. We just couldn't stop. Only thing - it was cold not sure if other doors have been open somewhere but that was a bit uncomfortable but not dramatically.“
“Amazing selection and loved the service. Waitress was working hard waiting tables herself for the most part with some help from the back. Comes in 3 diff price tiers and we got the one with sashimi and boy was it worth it. No alcohol license right now but we still had a great time. Free parking for 2 hours and menu doesn't include beverages other than water or dessert! Ambience is sitting around other people, nothing secluded. If come again because the fish is“
“Fun place to duck into before a show at the Pantages for a good cocktail and a bite. Enjoyed a variety of sushi to pair with our drinks. If sushi isn't your thing, there is a full menu of options on the reverse menu including short ribs, pasta and such. Ambience is spacious with two floors, outdoor patio seating protected from the busy street and an open bar. Can order food at the bar if a table is not available. Service is efficient and friendly. Reservations recommended.“
“Great costumes service and pricing, the place is livened up by the j pop playing in the background along with h other songs. The customer service was great I was served by Mrs. Maddy and had great service by her ( she deserves a raise probably 10/10 waiter). The chefs greatest us at the entrance.“
“What great little discovery! My wife and I were exploring DTLA on a sleepy rainy Sunday and happened upon this great sushi restaurant off of Santa Fe Ave in Downtown LA. The sign from the street read, “Happy Hour 3-6pm daily!”We stopped in to get the Mrs some tasty sushi.Kombu Sushi was a cozy bright fantastic surprise!Great fresh fish, chill atmosphere, and excellent service! We were given seared yellowtail sushi as well as lynchee mochi ice cream. They were so nice.We will definitely be back soon!“
“I definitely loved it. The second time going, I will definitely be going more often. The food is always so good, I had the takoyaki, the crispy tuna rice cakes, the baked crawfish roll, and the scallop roll. I had their green jasmine hot tea, I can't wait to try some other dishes.“
“I recently dined at this exceptional sushi restaurant, and it exceeded all expectations. The quality of the fish was impeccable, and each dish was a masterpiece of flavors. The ambiance was perfect for a relaxing meal, and the staff was attentive and knowledgeable. From the presentation to the taste, every aspect of the dining experience was top-notch. I highly recommend this place to any sushi enthusiast - a true gem in the world of Japanese cuisine!“
“Hidden behind stairs there's an obscure entrance. Once you are in it transforms into an edomae-style restaurant. We were lucky that a friend passed on a reservation. Given the length of the meal, you will be the only group of customers they serve for the night. We had a 22 course omakase. It was a first time experience for me and it didn't disappoint. Definitely a place for special occasions.“
“I always wanted to try Omakase and was in LA for the day. I had the lunch special and it was unbelievable. I have been eating sushi since the early 90s and this was by far, the best I have ever had. I would highly recommend trying this place.“
“Our first time here at Umi's AYCE Sushi and I never had the opportunity to eat at Joe's Sushi so I can't give the comparison review. The best part of lunch was the service. Our server was wonderful. She was very patient and gave a great explanation to the rules of the ayce option. As for the AYCE sushi menu, it was very average. Of the sushi, rolls and appetizers I ordered, there was nothing that stood out as spectacular. Other than the nigiri sushi, everything else had a lot of sauces and filled with a lot of spicy tuna or imitation crab. For the $33.99 price during lunch, I don't think I fully got my monies worth. During the time we went wasn't busy so it was fairly quiet and not a lot of people so we were well attended to. It was nice to finally give this place a try, but I think it's a one and done.“
“One of the jewels of dining in ELA. The food, service, and cleanliness of the restaurant are incomparable. I love the bento boxes, and they are a great value. The customer service is excellent and par noneVegetarian options: There are good optionsParking: The plenty of itKid-friendliness: Family oriented place, but mainly the food is catered to an adult tasteWheelchair accessibility: Yes plenty of room for a wheelchair, and I frequently see persons with them“
“Humble mom and pop sushi shop with yummy, fresh, made to order sushi. Best part: at supermarket prices! They have to compete with the likes of Nijiya, Tokyo Central, and Mitsuwa nearby, so they have brought their A game. Bonus: the interior decor is a must for any baseball fan! No interior dining yet since Covid, so don't be late to your potluck with your mom and pop sushi! Let the adorable sushi clock lead you“
“My friends and I found this place on our way to a concert in LA. We loved the food and enjoyed Veleria's service. She went above and beyond to serve us and interacting with her was lovely. She even started playing our favorite music from the concert we where headlong to!“
