“First time visiting this spot, it was recommended by Gemini actually. Weird hours but if you are nearby when it's actually open this is a must stop place.
First of all, 95% Asian customers which is what you want to see when you're getting Asian food. Be prepared to wait. From getting there to leaving it was about 45 minutes, I recommend getting a few things to make the trip worth it. Waiting an hour for one sandwich is diabolical.
This place is sick. $6-7 bahn mi, big portion, lots of pre-made meals and drinks, I will for sure come back and try more things. I got the #2, #7 & #13. #7 hit hard, #13 was my favorite, the meatball isn't what I'd typically go for but Gemini said it was the most popular and I see why. Although I'll probably opt for the version without the egg next time, not really necessary for me. Bread was good, veg was great, this is a top notch bahn mi.
Parking is tricky, it's a bad part of town but they seem to have made some efforts judging by other reviews, to clean up the space in front. No seating, its a to go only, but it's 100% worth it. Check this place out“

“I've seen this place hyped up on social media as one of the best chicken sandwiches out there and had to give it a try.
Got the szechuan chicken sando, the turkey salami and the sesame chocolate chip cookie. Does it live up to the hype?
The short answer is not really, at least in the chicken sando arena. It's a good chicken sando, it could absolutely do with some more pickled flavor, it's a little one note, I'd love the slaw to be pickled to break up the flavor. The bun is excellent, but the sandwich should be $5-6 cheaper, it's almost $20 and for what it is, while good, is simply not worth it when you can get extremely good chicken sandos all over oakland for much cheaper. Again, it's tasty, probably a one and done for me.
The turkey salami was kind of the star. Great bread, big sando (has to be for almost $20), you can tell it's a quality sando. Would I make a habit of getting sandwiches this expensive? Absolutely not. But it's worth trying and is very good.
The cookie was pretty good, room temp but managed to still have gooey chocolate. $7 is a lot for a cookie but it was tasty and not gonna gripe. Seems like a standard choc chip cookie tho, didn't really get a sesame flavor or see any sesames.
The staff were hustling and this place was doing a lot of business so clearly everything is going right. It's a take out only spot and they have a line so be prepared for that.
TLDR- Is it good? Yes. Is it a must try? No. Is it worth trying? Absolutely. Does $50 for 2 sandos and a cookie in oakland feel like highway robbery? A little bit.“

“At first I was bitching about an $18 sandwich, but when I tasted it, it was worth every dollar. Packed with fresh meat and that garlic mayo is awesome... And the Thai tea is tasty. My 1st time trying it and I will be back. And thank you to the lady who brought my food outside for me because she saw me on a cane. That is wonderful customer service.“

“I used to live in the area. This place is just as it was 10 yeat ago. The same people working in the kitchen. The same grumpy old man taking the orders. Absolutely terrible service. But the food is the best. The pastrami sandwich is soooo good. Soooo good. Well the only thing that changed is the price. The prices did go up. I told the old grumpy man that was taking the order that his food was sooo good. He grunted and moved his head up and down once at the same time not even looking at me. Like I said terrible terrible service but the pastrami sandwich is soooo goooood. Thank you grumpy old man for a great sandwich.“

“Since high school, I’ve been coming here for over 10 years, and the food has stayed consistently good. The sandwiches are the real standout, but my go to orders are the Hood and the Turkey Bacon Avocado. Whenever I’m in the area and hungry, this is one of the first spots that comes to mind. Solid sandwiches, generous portions, and that neighborhood spot feeling you can’t fake. Definitely a go to in Oakland. Highly recommend!“

“I've been getting coffee and eating lunch here weekly for years. I just changed jobs and no longer work on Filbert st and am sad to not come here regularly anymore. The prices are excellent, the menu has tons of options and I've enjoyed all of the things I've tried. I love their espresso, even go out of my way to come here for coffee from other neighborhoods sometimes. They make excellent salads and sandwiches especially their superb breakfast sandwich. One of the only places you can still get a decent espresso drink for under $5. And their jamaica agua fresca is off the chart! Highly recommended!“
“Love it here! This place feels exactly like Vietnam. All the uncles hanging outside drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes while the women are inside working hard! ?
Coffee is strong and delicious and the banh mi is excellent with fresh bread. Super affordable. CASH ONLY“
“September 9,11, 2025: I had the pleasure of a warm greetings from “Mac” as I entered Sandwicheez on Tuesday September 9, and again on the 11th. Mac who’s an employee at this convenient location courteously corrected me when I assumed this place was a Peet’s Coffee. Being my first time here and not paying attention to my surroundings having just finished my medical appointment, I assumed I was at Peet’s Coffee after having looked at my coffee cup. Interestingly, I did notice the familiar aroma, but it hadn’t yet registered until I finally became aware with Mac’s help. I was pressed for time so I sat for a while and enjoyed my coffee, and the ambiance of the outdoor covered patio. Self-seating, music fills the air. Air conditioned and a safe place for a conversation with a friend, or go it solo. Clean and welcoming here at Sandwicheez. Nicely bright and eye-catching menu of tasty eats is largely placed on the wall. I returned again today the 11th, and repeated what I did last Tuesday, although, today was extra special because Mac stepped outside onto the patio while I was enjoying my coffee and snack to check on me asking if I was ok, and if I needed anything more. This Sandwicheez location is a safe, friendly and conveniently located on the ground floor entrance of the Broadway Webster Medical Plaza. I’ll certainly be returning here to Sandwicheez. Thanks Mac. See photos of my visit here.“

“The baguettes cannot be overhyped. There is a big light up sign in the window they turn on when the bread comes out of the oven. When it's on, stop, you won't be sorry. The sandwiches are on the same bread. The baguettes are one good thing that came from French colonialism.“

“I’m touring a condo in Oakland for a client making an offer and I stop for a quick bite at a tiny sandwich place next to the Grand Lake Theater. OMG, Unbelievable sandwiches, smoked meats, homemade pickles, peppers🫑 and memorable pulled pork, etc. I hang out for a few minutes while Jerry makes my Cuban sandwich, and he has me try their smoked bacon, homemade meatballs, and more. Jerry’s the best and I love this place. Can’t wait to tell my client about it!! Check out Modigliani Cafe, next to the Grand Lake Theater. #modigliani #localbusiness #Oakland #localgem #restaurant #sandwich #grandlakedistrict #holeinthewall #localjoint #bayareafoodie #pamparkerproperties #realtor®“
