“The place was very clean and spacious. We ordered Marinated Kalbi boneless short ribs, thin sliced beef brisket, vegetable soybean paste and cold noodles. Overall foods are good. The service was very good. Price is kind of high. We are ok to visit here once. We were the first customers for the lunch. By the time we left, there were total of 5 tables including us.”

“I’ve lived less than a mile from this place for a decade and never tried it; tonight was the night. It’s a unique establishment - hookah lounge, banquet hall, bar. Walking in was a little confusing for first timers but we were quickly welcomed and seated at the bar. Drink pours were impressively heavy. Our food came out fast and was great. The cheese burek appetizer deserves special mention with its garlic and hot sauces! Our waiter/bartender was in full hustle mode on a busy Friday night but still found time to take good care of us and have a few short chats. Overall I’d highly recommend eating here. It’s a bit “different,” but who likes the same old thing over and over? I’ll be back.

“The sign says established in 1932, and every time I've driven by, I think I need to stop in. I finally did, and am kicking myself for wasted time. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The large bar and restaurant seating is comfortable and spacious. There is a variety of beers on tap, served in well-frosted glasses. We sat at the bar and I had one of the best burgers I've ever had, served with homemade chips. It was so good that I almost returned with another companion the next day!”

“Visited this cozy Korean spot in Chicago with a friend while we were craving authentic Korean food. We arrived around noon and surprisingly had the place to ourselves, which made the atmosphere calm and relaxing, with soft music playing in the background. My friend ordered the beef bulgogi while I went for the galbi soup—both were absolutely delicious and tasted so authentic that I still find myself thinking about it today. 😭 No Korean spot where I live even comes close to matching it!
The sweet lady who served us went above and beyond, even making a special dipping sauce for our chicken wings that came plain (not pictured). Service was quick and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. Such a gem! I only wish I lived in Chicago so I could come here more often. Without a doubt, I’ll be back whenever I visit!”

“We decided to give Haewadall another shot and it has turned a new leaf. The jokbal was soft and tender and freshly made; good quality. The bossam was also soft and naturally sweet; albeit not as naturally sweet nor as tender as the first year it opened (I remember wanting to eat the bossam as is without sauces). It did have a slight pig smell but not repulsive at all.
I would definitely go back and order both dishes again.
It seems like it’s starting to build back up the older Korean clientele (which are the best judges/most critical). The side dishes were pretty good.

Parking: In Walmart facility there is plenty of parking. But most of the time the parking lot is packed the restaurant is in Walmart.

Kid-friendliness: They have boneless wing which is basically the same as chicken nuggets. It also has claw machines for a dollar and plenty of quality prizes.”

Prices are very reasonable and consistent! We got the Tsuivan, Khuushuur, and Uvchuu. All were exceptional! The Khuushuur stood out most to me, the meat filling was delicious and it was golden brown and crispy. Staff were friendly and accommodating, I will be coming back a lot.”

“My Husband and I agree that there needs to be more restaurants like the Omega. We both grew up in the area, and felt quite not only nostalgic but at home while dining today. From the moment you walk in the door until you leave, you are surrounded by a soft ambient glow, dark wood paneling, beautiful hanging lamps above each table. Please do not get me started on their bakery items, bread so good you'd swear grandma was in there kitchen whipping it up by the batch load, a dessert/sweets case that could fulfill anyone's sweetest sweet tooth desires. I had to stop myself before I bought one of everything! My husband Had the Gyro Dinner and was in love with the homemade taziki/cucumber sauce, the meat was perfectly cut right off the spit, and homemade pita bread to top it off, plus it came with a very generous portion of house salad, and a bowl of soup. I was getting full just watching him. lol I tried the Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich, it was amazing, it had loads of melted Swiss cheese and a beautifully grilled chicken breast topped with pineapple(my favorite) all on a fresh baked ciabata roll. it was fantastic! Our waitress was very lovely, super attentive and extremely patient with us, being our first time dining there. Overall I would recommend that you give the Omega a chance, it's like stepping back in time to a simpler, better time, when the food was made with love, and it shows. “For me, this is THE best Korean-Chinese spot in Chicago. Sure, there are places like Yu's Mandarin, Chef Ping, Great Sea, Great Beijing, etc but they don't focus only on Korean-chinese food like Lai Lai do, hence in my opinion, Lai Lai serves the best Jajangmyeon and Jjambbong.

Now, Jajangmyeon comes in many varieties, but most people aren't aware of the differences:

Regular Jajangmyeon: All ingredients are stir-fried, then water and starch are added, resulting in a familiar starchy texture with added sugar or salt.

Gan Jajang: Cooked with just oil, it tends to be more oily and has a stronger "fire" taste from longer stir-frying, often more salty.

Uni Jajang: Ingredients are minced, so the dish lacks visible ingredient shapes and texture but brings out most flavor.

Sam seon Jajang (precious ingredients from sky, land, and sea): Originally with expensive items like shrimp, abalone, and pork, now often substituted with squid and cheaper ingredients.

Tray Jajang: Essentially +2 portions of Sam seon Jajang without the expensive ingredients.

I mention this because in Chicago, there are very few places offering these varieties, and even fewer doing it well. No one specializes in it quite like Korea, and the closest I've found to matching Korean taste is regular Jajangmyeon from Lai Lai.
