“Amazing place. Pricey but the quality and taste are equal to none – no other Korean BBQ place in the area can compete on those fronts, and I've been to multiple. The servers are always really attentive and nice too, I just really enjoy the place as a whole.”

“We were so impressed with this place! We were craving Korean food and felt so glad to have stumbled upon this authentic restaurant in Niles/Morton Grove.

Everything looked so good on the menu that we ended up over ordering with 4 dishes for 3 people: Jokbal (boiled pig trotters), Seafood Pajeon, Gopchang Jeongul (beef intestine spicy stew) and fried chicken wings. The platters looked just like the menu pictures, and everything was so flavorful and tasted so authentic as if it was a home cooked meal. We definitely could've just ordered the pajeon and jokbal and we would have been stuffed.

Jokball was tender and fresh, nicely thin slices. The seafood pancake by itself was great, crispy on the edges with the right amount of mixed seafood (not just batter). Gopchang jeongul was the highlight to the meal - savory and not overbearing spicy. Fried chicken wings were pretty good, too. This was an amazing, cozy meal.

On top of the great meal, the hostess/owner was so accommodating and kind! She gave food explanations and checked in on us often to ensure we had everything. I cannot wait to come back to try other dishes!

“This is my new barbecue go-to in Niles. I live close to here, and it is so easy to just come over and have a drink. They host some events, including live music and a book fair. It is a great place to have a party, and just plain have fun. I personally recommend the brisket. The fries here are something to crave. It is in kind of an industrial area. But the brewery has an industrial vibe. I totally recommend this place for anyone looking for a bar/bbq kind of place.”

“I’ve lived less than a mile from this place for a decade and never tried it; tonight was the night. It’s a unique establishment - hookah lounge, banquet hall, bar. Walking in was a little confusing for first timers but we were quickly welcomed and seated at the bar. Drink pours were impressively heavy. Our food came out fast and was great. The cheese burek appetizer deserves special mention with its garlic and hot sauces! Our waiter/bartender was in full hustle mode on a busy Friday night but still found time to take good care of us and have a few short chats. Overall I’d highly recommend eating here. It’s a bit “different,” but who likes the same old thing over and over? I’ll be back.

“We were put in a very nice smallish dining room where we could easily hear each other. We all enjoyed our meals from turkey burgers to a salad to brussel sprouts and artichokes. Our waitress, Diana, was outstanding!!!! Super cute and friendly, efficient and we liked her bubbly personality so much we kept asking her to pull up a chair and join us! We will definitely come back but only when she's serving! Great meal and great service!!!!”

They had great music playing that made you sway and sing along and not even know you were doing it. The staff were friendly, courteous, attentive and efficient. “We decided to give Haewadall another shot and it has turned a new leaf. The jokbal was soft and tender and freshly made; good quality. The bossam was also soft and naturally sweet; albeit not as naturally sweet nor as tender as the first year it opened (I remember wanting to eat the bossam as is without sauces). It did have a slight pig smell but not repulsive at all.
I would definitely go back and order both dishes again.
It seems like it’s starting to build back up the older Korean clientele (which are the best judges/most critical). The side dishes were pretty good.

I'm obsessed with bossam and this has been the only spot I've found with yummy, tender, thinly sliced bossam. Parking: In Walmart facility there is plenty of parking. But most of the time the parking lot is packed the restaurant is in Walmart.

Kid-friendliness: They have boneless wing which is basically the same as chicken nuggets. It also has claw machines for a dollar and plenty of quality prizes.”

It was $16 for a combo, which seems a little high but the time I spend in the area the more I learn it's about average.I got to watch them cook the burger patties on the flat top and then give them a nice char grill. It was huge, almost overpowered by all of the toppings. A big slice of grilled onion, a hunk of tomato, lettuce, bacon... I had to remove some of it to enjoy the burger.The burger itself was well seasoned and tasty with a grilled bun and good sauce. Yes, the sauce was kickin' it a little bit.It came with standard crinkle fries but they were crisp and there were lots of them. More than I could finish.”

“My Husband and I agree that there needs to be more restaurants like the Omega. We both grew up in the area, and felt quite not only nostalgic but at home while dining today. From the moment you walk in the door until you leave, you are surrounded by a soft ambient glow, dark wood paneling, beautiful hanging lamps above each table. Please do not get me started on their bakery items, bread so good you'd swear grandma was in there kitchen whipping it up by the batch load, a dessert/sweets case that could fulfill anyone's sweetest sweet tooth desires. I had to stop myself before I bought one of everything! My husband Had the Gyro Dinner and was in love with the homemade taziki/cucumber sauce, the meat was perfectly cut right off the spit, and homemade pita bread to top it off, plus it came with a very generous portion of house salad, and a bowl of soup. I was getting full just watching him. lol I tried the Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich, it was amazing, it had loads of melted Swiss cheese and a beautifully grilled chicken breast topped with pineapple(my favorite) all on a fresh baked ciabata roll. it was fantastic! Our waitress was very lovely, super attentive and extremely patient with us, being our first time dining there. Overall I would recommend that you give the Omega a chance, it's like stepping back in time to a simpler, better time, when the food was made with love, and it shows. “For me, this is THE best Korean-Chinese spot in Chicago. Sure, there are places like Yu's Mandarin, Chef Ping, Great Sea, Great Beijing, etc but they don't focus only on Korean-chinese food like Lai Lai do, hence in my opinion, Lai Lai serves the best Jajangmyeon and Jjambbong.

Now, Jajangmyeon comes in many varieties, but most people aren't aware of the differences:

Regular Jajangmyeon: All ingredients are stir-fried, then water and starch are added, resulting in a familiar starchy texture with added sugar or salt.

Gan Jajang: Cooked with just oil, it tends to be more oily and has a stronger "fire" taste from longer stir-frying, often more salty.

Uni Jajang: Ingredients are minced, so the dish lacks visible ingredient shapes and texture but brings out most flavor.

Sam seon Jajang (precious ingredients from sky, land, and sea): Originally with expensive items like shrimp, abalone, and pork, now often substituted with squid and cheaper ingredients.

Tray Jajang: Essentially +2 portions of Sam seon Jajang without the expensive ingredients.

I mention this because in Chicago, there are very few places offering these varieties, and even fewer doing it well. No one specializes in it quite like Korea, and the closest I've found to matching Korean taste is regular Jajangmyeon from Lai Lai.

“Man, I've been going to this spot for years. The service is awesome. The food always comes out hot and fresh. The prices are reasonable. I would recommend the chimichanga (steak or chicken), pork burrito, and the tamales they sell are not bad.

As SGD Dubu (so gong dong) can be found in many different locations in IL as it is a franchise restaurant, but! this SGD Dubu place serves the most well prepared and very delicious SGD Dubu soup the way it should taste.
