“best sushi in the chicagoland area for me! this little stall inside Hmart Niles’ food court is such a hidden gem. my husband and i actually come here once a week now, it’s officially become our comfort-food spot. i’m not a raw-sushi person at all, but they have amazing cooked options. i'm obsessed with the salmon yaki roll. seriously, it’s that good, always fresh and consistent.

we chatted with the owner once, and he told us he even makes the wasabi from scratch. the wasabi alone deserves an award, so flavorful, not the harsh store-bought kind. the owner is almost always there, making the sushi himself and running things with such a friendly vibe. he truly deserves recognition. this is literally the only sushi my stomach can tolerate, so that says a lot.

and it’s not just the sushi. their entrées are unforgettable too. my husband swears by the chicken katsu: crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and the portion/price is super fair.

I had an amazing experience at this sushi restaurant! The waitresses were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Their warm hospitality truly enhanced our dining experience.

The food was outstanding—the soup was rich, flavorful, and absolutely delicious, making for a perfect start to the meal. I also tried the avocado roll, which was exceptionally fresh and of the highest quality. The avocado was perfectly ripe and creamy, complementing the sushi beautifully.

Overall, this restaurant delivers both excellent service and top-notch sushi. I will definitely be returning. Highly recommend!“

It’s a small and simple yet quality restaurant and you can tell the owners are passionate about sushi and giving customers a good experience. Very reasonable prices as well. The most astonishing fact about this restaurant was the host (Quam) his amazing knowledge of food and customer service was unlike any other. The Ice cream desert was mind blowing. You don't have to take my word for it, but I guarantee you, you won't find another Sushi restaurant in the city of Chicago as good this one. The ambiance of this establishment is very warm and pleasant. I highly recommend this place for family gatherings, and with people you want to share a special food feast with. “Decently priced new omakase in town. The nigiri was well paced and appreciated the attentive waiter providing insight on the selection and order. Bar service ran slow. Water service was timely. I’m not always a big proponent of any special treatment but I think if you write both honeymoon AND birthday on the reservation there should probably be a little something to make the occasion, especially if they plop a QR code in front of you at the end to ask you for a review. Left a sour and disappointing note to the night, not sure who missed that but something to be aware of if people are coming to spend hard earned money to mark a special occasion. We ended up going down the street to Chef’s Special for a little more hospitality in that regard and got a candle in our dessert and some comped cookies. A little goes a long way!“

I really wanted to have Japanese food (specifically Onigiri) for a Studio Ghibli-themed baby shower, and reached out to several local restaurants. Ekiben was by far the most responsive and fairly priced!

“This was a wildly delicious meal. Inventive but also traditional. The food itself was the star, but every other aspect of the meal was also great. It felt like a dinner party at friend’s house. The atmosphere was convivial with the chef explaining the food and answering questions from the diners with everyone in the room being able to hear. The single waiter, Jose, was also a delight. I would return here in a heartbeat despite the price tag.“

They call us my name, we get hugs and updates on life every time we come in. The staff remembers our favorite orders, the quality of the food is also so fresh and we can’t wait to come back the next time. The spot was accommodating to being gluten free and dairy free, bringing gf soy sauce and ensuring I didn’t order anything tempura, and making subs for rolls with cream cheese. This spot is BYOB and they have everything you need to enjoy an adult beverage. There’s a corner store right around the corner is you forgot to bring something from home. Overall such a great experience every time and I hope this restaurant continues to thrive!“

I especially loved the hand rolls because they were huge and so fresh. There are so many options for specialty rolls, maki, poke, and vegetarian options as well. I also tried the mochi for dessert and it was so good. Whenever I crave quick sushi I think of this place. “Folks with celiac disease are often out of luck at Japanese restaurants, but Jimoto makes dining a total joy. Items are clearly marked with allergens, and tamari sauce is available in lieu of soy. Everything was very tasty, particularly the hamachi sashimi and the Chicago fire roll. Presentation is quietly elegant. Our new favorite north shore restaurant.“
