“Went here my with my boyfriend to celebrate a major milestone in our lives. I really don't understand why so many reviews say to "avoid the dining room, sit at the bar." Maybe I am just not an educated foodie or what, but my boyfriend and I sat in the dining room and had a lovely time. I get that at the bar, the chefs make the food in front of you and you get some extra food that's not available in the dining room, but the dining room experience is great too.You at least get some privacy and intimacy - the bar looked cramped and overcrowded. Not saying don't go to the bar, just that each area has its own upsides and downsides. The servers were attentive, the ambience was romantic, the non alcoholic champagne they served was FANTASTIC, and the food was spectacular. Overall, we loved the experience and would go again if we could.“
“A new all-time favorite. The staff is adorable and made us feel right at home. Only wish they were open for lunch so we could go back sooner! The food was outstanding everything our waitress recommended was amazing and included some non traditional sushi rolls you can’t get anywhere else.“
“I’ve been to old town a couple of times, but I only happened to check out this cool and chill bar a few weeks ago. They got a cool Christmas tree at the front door. I ordered a drink that comes with an unique flavor. The bartender was super nice, and I was amazed by the decor and atmosphere.“
“We got food to go and waited outside- the inside is very small but the food… was so good! We got the risotto balls and fries. Both hit. I just wish the marinara was hot for the risotto balls! It was a good late night meal! Will definitely try the pizza next time!“
“Ate a late lunch with my son. I usually go to other sushi places, but they all close from 2:30 to 5. Kisso was the first place I found open all afternoon. Turns out they serve off of the lunch menu until 3. Also turns out the food, service, and atmosphere were top notch. I have no issues recommending Kisso.“
“The food and atmosphere were excellent. The highlight was our waitress Jessica. She walked us through the menu and gave us some great recommendations, and was very attentive. It made for a really special anniversary dinner thanks to her effort.“
“This was the first time I have ever had sushi I loved my sushi I have come back here twice now, and I will come back to bring my family and friends. You have an Awesome restaurant Endo, I am so glad Bobby Lee took me here for my first time trying sushi now I have cravings for it and my stomach likes me again. “
“I want to give a shout out to Mr. Ham, Jobbi, and MJ. I stayed at a hotel near this fine establishment and I visited it quite frequently for dinner. Their omakase is absolutely incredible, and sitting at the bar watching them prepare the food was an awesome experience. They were very kind, and super welcoming. They have an vast understanding of the meals they are preparing for you, and they only use premium cuts. Literally the meat melts in your mouth, it was sooooo good. I will definitely visit them again on my next trip out. I stayed at this hotel for over 2 weeks, and this was the only restaurant I went to eat at more than once. They made me feel like I was family, they new what I wanted when I walked in, and they remembered our previous conversations from nights prior and were very engaging. I would highly recommend to anyone who inquires. Hands down one of the best restaurants experiences in the area.“
“We were running late and the staff that answered were very nice. We had a wonderful window seat to watch the city go by as we had some of the best Japanese !Service was prompt , food was very flavorful and nice and hot ( temperature) . The servings were generous, we actually ordered more than we could eat ! The specialty cocktails are a must … we were treated to a palette cleanser that was refreshing and delicious… we will definitely be back next time we visit DC“
“Hands down the best place to eat Japanese food in town, I was there a couple times and will most definitely be back, the service is excellent, the food amazing, the Ramen is my favorite, the sushi is always fresh and delicious, amazing place, congratulations to the chefs and owners.Kid-friendliness: They have chairs for children and babies.“
“This restaurant currently only has takeaway or order. Waiting outside for your takeaway is a bit odd experience but don’t let it put you off. The food is delicious and the portions are huge. I had teriyaki. I hope for this place that they can open completely again.“
“Decided to check Cafe Sushi Garden out today because I really wanted sushi but I didn’t want to go far, so I walked over and I was very happy and satisfied I went! It’s a small and cozy space with a good variety of different sushi at a very reasonably price. The owner and sushi chef was very kind and friendly. Highly recommend and will be back.“
“Perry's Drag Brunch is a staple of DC entertainment and has been running for over 20 years! A must see! Great Brunch buffet with plenty of options. Brunch cocktails served in large carafes. Perfect for celebrating a special occasion bc the ladies make you feel special and welcomed. Lots of LOVE and it's shows.“
“Me and my bf ordered sushi lover for two and look at this visual. Not even a look but the taste was perfect. Raw fishes were fresh and spicy tuna roll was full of flavor and California roll was just perfect. I’ve had a lot if sushi in U.S., Korea and Japan but this was the top5. Don’t hesitate to try sushi and roll in this restaurant. High google review would just prove the reason why. (There’s no salmon in sushi lover for 2 cuz I asked them to change into other ones!)It is a Japanese restaurant with a Korean owner. The menu was not flimsy and had some core dishes that looked delicious, but we were so hungry that we ordered the sushi boat for two right away. It was $55, and I was really surprised when I saw the sushi that came out. It was so delicious and the portion was huge, really!! The sashimi was the right size, not so thick or thin that it was difficult to chew, and it had just the right amount of wasabi in it, so it was really delicious. Ordering nigiri in the US was always too expensive, but here, it was great to be able to taste the sushi and rolls that are commonly known in Korea in the right proportion. Yes. There is a reason for the high Google rating. The lady who served us was also very kind. If you are a Korean traveling to Washington, I recommend you to visit. Oh, and the reason there is no salmon sushi in the picture is because we can't eat salmon, so we asked for something else!“
“A true, small independent restaurant. No fancy decor, but very, very good food! Excellent sushi, outstanding ramen, at fair prices (we spent less than $40/person incl. tip).We went on a Sunday early evening and had no wait for our table, fast service, and did I mention the food? SO GOOD!!Tip: there are two parking spots to pull into right before you get to the restaurant on the right“
“I got the lavender drink,And Spider bomb was sooooo good,After that I got yakitori the king oyster was incredible ask for ichimi for a little spices. I would really recommend kutsudon here. Definitely coming back and try different dishes.Music was so fun. It’s a combination Asian food. Recommend for Birthday party and special occasions“
“Shōtō is a very trendy Japanese restaurant, great for special occasions. The sushi is pretty good, not phenomenal for the price (8/10). Their tofu avocado salad was great! Refreshing and light (9/10). The beef skewers were disappointing. Super oily and fatty, not pleasant to eat (4/10). The tempura was perfectly battered and fried! (9/10)The highlight of our meal was the dessert and the black cod. THIS is the entrée you should get when coming here. Just melts in your mouth! (11/10) The panna cotta and the cheesecake were both amazing! (11/10)Overall, a nice experience. Not everything on the menu is great. The vibe was super nice though!“
“Sharon A was very receptive and attended to our requests and she made some very nice suggestions. The meal, drinks and the desert was very good and the selection of music that was played was very relaxing. I did not give 5 stars for the Food/Value because portion size was very small with the Salmon. I ended up ordering another meal to feel me up.“
“Great food and service plus less than a block from the Gallery-Chinatown Metro Station for easy access. Small, clean restaurant with cheerful staff and prices that won't deplete your budget. We started with spicy soy garlic edamame that was delicious! Then had a Hangry Zumo sushi roll, fresh ingredients and delicious. Next was two main courses- Spicy Red Curry with tofu and Spicy Sweet and Sour Chicken. Both dishes were a comfortable level of spicy, a beverage refill wasn't necessary, and just enough heat to be noticeable. It was stated- "this is the best sweet and sour chicken I've ever had". We plan to return and recommend this great little place too. The food was irresistible so there's no pics to share.“
“Easy parking. Parking garage. Make sure to validate. Staff is extremely friendly yet professional. They are also knowledgeable on their sushi, sake, and rice. Sushi was fresh and fatty! Prices are reasonable, especially for the quality of sushi. The drinks are stiff but flavorful. i.e. They’re not holding back. Overall highly recommend!!!“
“Love dining at interactive places and this just hits the spot! The food is high quality (Hope that never changes) and the beverages are delicious. We went for my fiancés birthday and they brought out a piece of delicious green tea cake for free. That extra step was very kind. Unfortunately we were sat next to a family with 2 kids under 3 years old which somewhat killed the vibe as they were screaming and acting up (please don't bring kids here). Overall would highly recommend- we will be back!“
“Momo Sushi is a quaint, no frills, spot with incredible sushi. The fatty tuna nigiri (special) melts in your mouth with its buttery texture, while the spicy tuna roll adds a kick of flavor that tantalizes the taste buds. I also ordered a seaweed salad bursting with umami goodness and complemented by fabulous hot tea. Would recommend!“
“I’ve been to many of the ramen places near or around Chinatown and this is where I keep returning. The portion sizes are bigger, cheaper, and most importantly - tastier. I love the old records on the wall and overall ambience. It’s never too loud in here despite being downtown.“
“Have been to Hawaii and this place is GREAT quality sushi. Service was great. I can’t believe more people weren’t in here at lunchtime. Hidden gem (for now).Kid-friendliness: Laid back atmosphere.Wheelchair accessibility: There are steps you have to use to get in“
“OpenTable allowed me to select the outside patio but upon arrival I was told the section was closed. As a person who has worked in front and back of the house and management positions in restaurants and within the software industry, this seemed to be an area of miscommunication between the software and the establishment. This was the only part of the experience I found lacking. The host team was thrown off but were at least open to asking a server if they would take me outside, though they weren't sure about the heat lamp - something else I made a notation about in my reservation, leading me to believe the restaurant does not actually review the OpenTable reservations ahead of time. I'm recovering from a head injury and have sensory processing issues so it can negatively affect my health if I'm thrust into a loud enclosed environment for an extended period of time. I asked the hosts if they could find a quieter booth for me and they perked up. The person who pours the water and busses the tables was well trained, courteous and warm. The server, Deshawn, made up for my irritation with the seating. He was timely, professional and put me at ease. The food was delectable and the drinks well balanced between bubbly and fruit juice. I would go back for the food but would call ahead versus using open table again. As someone who has been on both sides, it is extremely important when establishments use software to make sure it is being monitored properly. If the outside section was going to be closed, especially because I was a guest at the hotel, that could easily have been communicated to me.“
“This was one of the first restaurants I tried when moving to the area five years ago. They consistently have really great food! Appetizers: the beef Bulgogi bai buns and the fried crab wontons are fantastic! My favorite dish is the Tokyo Sun roll. Friends rave about Ramen. They have a full bar, I wish they had better featured cocktails, but when I order my go to drink it’s always made correctly. I have eaten here at least 20 times, staff is always nice, they are just sometimes slow to check on refills, etc.“
“Best sushi place in DC! I've been going since it was originally in Dupont. Fresh fish, creative rolls, delicious food, and amazing staff. Yale the bartender is *AMAZING* so make sure to check in with her for great service and drinks. Order everything... it's all fantastic!“
“I would to start by saying I am not a Vegan but this Restaurant has me considering slowly adopting the lifestyle. I was at Planta Queen on the 24th of February for dinner. I sat at the bar area I was then greeted by Tia and Kris (the bartenders that evening) and I can say their level of service was spectacular. They were so friendly, checked on me periodically, and made sure that everything went smoothly. I would recommend sitting in the middle or far right of the bar. The left side of the bar is close to the entrance, when heavy foot traffic passes through you will feel the elements of the outside. that night it was light rain accompanied by a slight breeze so I had to keep my jacket on from the midpoint to the end of my dining experience.Food & DrinksI tried most of the February Exclusive menu items and I was thoroughly impressed. For my drink, I had the "Strawberry Feels" which was amazing. The oishii omakase berry was soft and blended perfectly with the bourbon. For my appetizer, I had the "Broccoli Cheddar Soup" which was very creamy and came with 2 broccoli heads, some sprinkled with "Tempeh Bacon" that mimics bacon bits. The soup itself had notes that were similar to cheese, it was truly incredible. For my entree, I had "Crispy Rice" & "Spicy Crab Crispy Rice" Sushi's. Among the two, the "Crispy Rice"(the 3rd pic) was my favorite dish of the night. The spiciness of the ahi watermelon was just right and paired well with the avocado sauce. The "Spicy Crab Crispy Rice" (4th pic) didn't have a very impactful flavor, so I had to douse it with the house ginger soy sauce to awaken the flavor. Finally, for dessert, I had the "Omakase Berry Strudel". The jam was phenomenal, very delicate, and tart. The matcha icing didn't have the earthy taste that you naturally get from matcha, but it still went well with the dish.“
“Having lived in Japan before, I’m very critical of Japanese restaurants. But this one was pretty good! Bulgogi was very good and the fish they used for my nigiri tasted fresh. I’d only recommend they use more rice in their sashimi - I don’t know if it was because we were the last order of the night, but there was almost no rice with my nigiri.“
“Went there for a quick lunch on a rainy Saturday. As a vegetarian, it’s hard to find good ramen that’s not over 20$… and sushi under the same damn roof. This place had both! And both were outstanding. I love spicy ramen so I requested for my vegetarian ramen on the menu to be kicked up a notch, and it hit the mark!!!!The sweet potatoes tempura rook was amazing as well. This might just be our new regular Saturday lunch spot. Can’t wait to go back. (Will upload pictures once I do)Vegetarian options: Ramen and sushi“
“My debit card was used in an unauthorized transaction at this location on Jan. 26, 2024, for an order I did not place. Luckily, my bank caught it but I’m unsure if Hibachi Express is aware that their card system may be compromised. I really enjoy the food and the customer service here and hope this situation will not happen again.“
“Popped over to Sushi2Go for their lunch special: two rolls and miso soup for $12! What a steal! I ordered for pickup online, the sushi rolls were ready when I got there and they served me some fresh miso. Everything was delicious, and the people who work there are so nice! The plain salmon roll continues to be my go-to, it's so simple but so good. Sushi2Go is a super small spot right next to the Ballston metro, but don't let that fool you. The sushi is great and the prices are super“
“Isshin has one of the BEST service in Adams Morgan. May is the woman who always helps me. I think she’s the manager. She keeps that place running swiftly and smoothly. During the pandemic, Isshin made every effort to keep their place sanitized and customers safe by using PPE and placing hand sanitizers all around. The staff works super fast to get meals ready for you. They always go above and beyond to offer excellent service. I had to order spicy shrimp rice and I was going to arrive close to closing time, May kept Isshin open until I arrived (5 mins late) to pick up my food. I only live 3 blocks away but once I was not able to pick up my food from Isshin. May immediately said, “if you live close, I’ll deliver for you.” And she did just that and as usual with a very pleasant demeanor and genuine smile. May and her team at Isshin make this restaurant one of the best in Adams Morgan. Thank you May and Isshin!!!“
“surprised by ratings because this place is truly a hidden gem! this place is definitely underrated, the rolls here are very inexpensive (I.e spider rolls for 7.50 is unmatched and unheard of in the dmv area), with decent portions. Service was nothing to complain about as well. It does get crowded during dinner time, and ambiance is more like a hole in the wall vibe, but the quality and cost of food makes up for it.“
“The staff are so nice, and the service is really great! I thought the food tasted really fresh and yummy, and the plating was so fun. I’ll definitely be back!Vegetarian options: There’s a vegetarian sushi combo (pictured) and the food is delicious and filling!“
“Fine if my favorite sushi spots and it's always very peaceful when you walk in and the workers are nice . It's a clean place too and affordable. I just wished they closed later . Also in the picture i ate and might of flip some of the sushi so don't think they gave it to me like this“
“This place is gold! I first discovered this place when I went to school at GW and this was close to the Vern campus. I remembered I thought the sushi was really good here but once I graduated and didn’t have a car, I haven’t been back in a while. Recently, when I had sushi cravings I remembered this spot and mentioned it to my husband so we came to check it out again. I am kicking myself for not coming back sooner! I love getting chirashis and not only do they give a generous amount of fish in their chirashi, they are all extremely high quality and fresh fish—all at very reasonable price too! I also got the clam miso soup which was very tasty and the clams are shell-on so it’s extra flavorful. Staff is super attentive and friendly too, and the place is small but cozy! I do wonder if on busy nights there’ll be long waits. I will definitely be back often!!“
“Came for their Valentine's Day menu and WOW! They had such a unique and thoughtful menu. Started with a complementary drink. The total course number was seven. Started with a delicious scallop tartare followed by a delicious lobster croquette. The star dish was definitely the personal hot pot with waygu beef. It was cool to get to cook the food at our table. There was also a round of sushi and round of nigiri which featured fresh delicious picks from the chef! To end there was a banana chocolate crepe which was perfectly sweet and had a decadent chocolate dipping sauce. This was a great meal. Definitely pricey but is worth it! Come here for your next big occasion for a treat!“
“Incredible neighborhood take-out sushi restaurant! Very friendly service and high-grade fish. Really enjoyed both the sashimi and the rolls. Best sushi by far in the area. Can be challenging to find. Take escalators as if heading to Crystal City metro station and turn left into the underground gallery after the first escalator. The sushi bar will be on your right.“
“my new spot. walked in for a take out order after work and was surprised how much i liked the vibe. the menu is surprisingly expansive and filled with favorites I never thought I’d see at the same restaurant. to top it off, the sushi and kimchi dumplings I ordered were spectacular. can’t wait to come back and try “
“My husband, puppy and I dined here since we live a short walk away and were trying to get to know the neighborhood. This place is a hidden gem, don’t know how we ever missed it! There’s a hygge deck with seating surrounded by lush greenery and warm hanging lights. I ordered the spicy donburi and it was an explosion of flavor. Will definitely be back to try more.“
“Amazingly fresh sushi, even the ginger was wonderful! The Chesapeake roll was as good as it sounded (with different ingredients you don’t get everywhere). Knowing how fresh the fish is, I might try nigiri next time. This was also one of the few sushi places in DC to be open past 10pm on a Sunday!“
“Very nice restaurant. It doesn’t have a lot of tables so the space is small and cozy. You can see how they prepare the food from your seat and the owners are very kind. Good value for money. We especially recommend their boxes. The sushi was also very tasty.“
“I was pleasantly surprised that the hotel restaurant overcomes my expectations. I loved everything about this place. The atmosphere is great - you could find more crowded place closer to the bar, or of you want to talk and enjoy more silent time - they have the tables that good for that too (closer to the hotel lobby). The service is superb and food is dying for. Everything was delicious, but absolutely the best dish are always have some seafood (we tried scallops, octopus, fish). Great experience!“
“My recent visit to Asahi in Arlington unfolded as a delightful journey into the realm of sushi, showcasing commendable craftsmanship in the culinary domain. Nestled in the vibrant tapestry of Arlington's dining scene, Asahi offers a sushi experience that, while leaving a positive impression on the taste buds, presented a couple of considerations for the discerning diner. The highlight of the dining experience at Asahi undoubtedly lies in the realm of sushi. The artistry and quality of the sushi creations were commendable, delivering a delightful array of flavors and textures. From meticulously prepared nigiri to inventive rolls, the menu demonstrated a commitment to the essence of Japanese culinary art. Each bite was a testament to the freshness of the ingredients and the skillful execution of the sushi chefs. However, the positive culinary impressions were juxtaposed with considerations related to the dining environment. The tables, regrettably, were on the smaller side, creating a somewhat cramped setting. While the coziness could be considered charming, it posed a challenge in terms of comfort and maneuverability, particularly for larger groups or those seeking a more spacious dining experience.Another noteworthy aspect was the cleanliness of the restroom facilities, which, although not dire, left room for improvement. Ensuring pristine conditions in the toilets is integral to the overall satisfaction of patrons, and enhancing cleanliness standards in this area would contribute significantly to the overall impression of the establishment. On a positive note, the service at Asahi was attentive and friendly, enhancing the overall dining experience. The staff's willingness to accommodate requests and offer recommendations added a layer of hospitality that complemented the culinary excellence. In conclusion, Asahi in Arlington stands out as a commendable destination for sushi enthusiasts, offering a menu that combines creativity and authenticity. While the dining space could benefit from more accommodating table arrangements, and improvements in restroom cleanliness would be welcomed, the positive aspects, particularly the sushi craftsmanship and attentive service, make Asahi a notable contender in the local culinary landscape. I look forward to future visits to savor the delectable offerings and witness potential refinements that could further elevate the overall dining experience.“
“Came here for late dinner after flight into DCA and staying at nearby hotel. Glad to find a restaurant that is open late and surprised that they can have such an extensive Asian menu and do the dishes well. The curry puff is a standout - will return when in area.“
“Me and a girlfriend came before the movies for a quick bite. We didn't want to get stuffed because movie popcorn is a requirement. I LOVE their big mugs for their tea. Wish I had these at home. We started with some gyoza and we both had soup. The Tom Yum was so yummy! And it was perfect for the cold rainy day we were having. Service was great! Very attentive and patient with us. We'll definitely be back to have an actual meal. Everything looked delicious!“
“Our party of 4 really loved the hibachi performance. The dining area of the restaurant is a bit noisy and smoky with all that cooking going on, but that's part of the fun. It's as enjoyable to watch all the kids be dazzled by the onion volcano as it is to eat the food.“
“New to the area, and was eager to find a local Thai spot. Had the pad se ew and crab fried rice delivered, and boy was it delicious. Not too fishy on the crab, which I certainly appreciated. Will easily be ordering from this place again. Thank you!“
“First time coming here( had to be Christmas lol) was a bit busy, one of the things that stood out to me was Rufus, one of the only workers that was on the line making the order very attentive and very hard worker. Both qualities hard to find now a day and he has both, needles to say I will be coming back not just cause of the great sushi but because of the great work ethic and customer device shown by Rufus. Thank you again“
