There was a 40min wait to be seated and don't be discouraged by this because the food is really worth the wait. Their pho is flavorful and they give a generous portion of beef. We also tried the banh mi and it did not disappoint. One of my fave place now in nyc.“

“Em Vietnamese Bistro has been on my list for a while, so I finally got to check it out! At first, the interior looks like you are walking into an office, not a restaurant; I had to do a double-take to make sure I walked in the correct door. I made a reservation for 6:30pm on a Friday, but the restaurant wasn't full at any point. Since the space is small, you are seated close to other people at peak dining hours.

My friend and I both got the Bun Thit Nuong ($17) and we shared a Cha Gio ($11). The spring rolls left a lot to be desired, both presentation-wise and taste-wise. For presentation, the rolls would benefit from a smaller plate with a more curated selection of vegetables. The huge romaine inundates the dish, and we didn't end up eating it, so it just seems like a waste. Flavor-wise, the rolls were on the plain side, which do not justify the price. After that appetizer, I was pleasantly surprised by the entree. The pork was cooked and flavored well, and I gorged myself. Everything tasted fresh and refreshing! I also think for the portion size and the area, the price is worth it.

Service was good in the sense that they did not rush us, but we had to ask for everything, from getting someone to take our order to asking for the check. The Bun Thit Nuong was the highlight, and I would eat it again if I was in the area!“

“After reading the reviews, decided to try the lemon grass pork banh mi, lemon grass pork bun, nem and summer rolls. The pork was so flavorful and tender and there was lots of it in the sandwich and bun. Our appetizers were also delicious, 4 in each order. And yes, the bread was soft BUT we loved it. The pickled vegetables were on point and the banh mi was loaded with yummy cilantro. Prices were also reasonable. Only thing that we felt was missing: pickled daikon radish. Definitely worth a return visit!“

“My partner and I have always enjoyed coming to Mắm for authentic Vietnamese, so when it was his 40th birthday I reached out to do a surprise party for him.

They were amazing to work with from beginning to end, especially Thon! They were able to plan a set menu, work within our constraints, recommend a florist, and just went above and beyond. I am so thrilled they allowed us to buy out some space and it was the most memorable birthday he's had - all thanks to the great food and service we and over 20 of our friends had.

“Very cute Vietnamese restaurant on my trip to NYC! I did not have reservation but the staff was so kind letting me in right away. The place brings me joy with my hometown special baby clam dish which was DELICIOUS. Grilled squid is tasty, pho is a little bit different than what I expected but definetely yummy. I also love their tamarind tea. Everyone is so nice and kind, and I hope to come back soon! ❤“

“A Wonderful Vietnamese Dining Experience at Sao Mai

I had such a wonderful experience at Sao Mai in Manhattan. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt warm, welcoming, and authentic. The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, beautifully prepared, and full of the wonderful flavors that make Vietnamese cuisine so special.

The service was also excellent. Everyone was attentive, friendly, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. It was the kind of experience where you can relax, enjoy your meal, and appreciate the care that goes into both the food and the hospitality.

“Very friendly, welcoming, low key restaurant with GREAT prices and equally GREAT food! If i lived in East Village this would be my go-to. They do not use soy sauce and many peanuts for those with allergies. Compared to other vietnamese places they are very accommodating to many diets, but at baseline their menu is safe. “The Manhattan Viet food game has recently stepped up and Ly Ly has to be one of the best.

Com Tom/Vietnamese Pork Chop Rice or Hawker Rice as it’s called on the menu - 💯 Must Try. The best in the City. I’ve missed com tom done right - the egg cake is essential!! 97% of places don’t do it, 3% don’t do it well. The pork was not greasy at all which also tends to happen.

Turmeric Dill Fish - this is my first time trying this dish and it was SO. GOOD. Fish cooked perfectly.

On a 1pm Saturday, our party of 2 was seated quite quickly and the food came out quickly which was a pleasant surprise.

As a SoCal transplant Ly Ly measures up to my favs in LA/OC.

“This place is cozy and makes for a nice place to go out with friends, dates or even alone! I went in by myself and tried their banh mi, which despite not being like what you would find in a typical Vietnamese spot, was super tasty and I highly recommend it. Use my photo as evidence of how good it is, I ate half of it before I finally took a photo, haha. The bread itself was soft, it tasted fresh, and the filling wasn't overly spicy or bland, it was just right. The baked goods looked tempting and I might have to try them next time.

Service wise, they're great. The staff will let you know how long you'll wait for items and they are good at what they do, both in the front facing customers and in the back prepping.“

We can't say enough good things about Chef Papa and its incredible staff for hosting our wedding reception. Every guest left happy, and so did we.

**John** deserves special recognition. He spent so much time helping us plan, meeting with us a few times a week and answering every request quickly. He made sure every detail was handled, and he's a wonderfully creative problem solver who turned one of the most stressful parts of wedding planning into something smooth and enjoyable. We couldn't have asked for a more thoughtful, more patient and more generous partner.

The whole staff was attentive and warm throughout the night. Chef Papa himself (John's dad!) even made us special appetizers that weren't on the menu, and the team even offered us complimentary fruit platters. They also let us stay 30 extra minutes so our guests could take photos, which meant so much to us.

And the food! Generous portions, a huge variety of appetizers, made-to-order entrées in big servings, and two kinds of dessert. Guests kept coming up to tell us it was the best wedding food they'd ever had. One said he never knew Vietnamese food could be so diverse, interesting and delicious. We were so proud to share it with everyone.

The restaurant itself is beautiful, with lovely natural, green, Vietnamese-inspired decor that made a perfect backdrop for our celebration.

“Ate here when they first opened a long time ago and honestly wasn't impressed. Due too the pouring rain and wanted to go someplace close for pho I decided to try again. There were tons of delivery orders and the place was crowded, but I was still helped right away, everything was fast and friendly. And, the chicken pho was delicious. The chicken is tender, juicy, and full of flavor, and I really like how a squeeze of lime lifts the broth and makes it taste even brighter and fresher. The portions are generous, the service is consistently good, and the restaurant is always clean, well-kept, and nicely decorated. I often come here for lunch with my coworkers, and it has become one of those reliable spots we keep returning to. While half the city is trying to reinvent the sandwich with bizarre trendy fusions, this place respects the foundations. The baguette has that perfect, violent crunch that will aggressively exfoliate the roof of your mouth, while the inside is packed with the exact right ratio of savory meats to fresh, pickled veggies. Do yourself a favor and stick with the Classic, paired with a Vietnamese iced coffee. Fair warning on the coffee: it’s so strong you might vibrate into another dimension, or at least finally get all your errands done in record time.

If you're hunting for the real deal, want actual authentic flavors, this is the spot.“

“Huong Xuan was recommended by my boyfriend, who had it on his must-go list. From the moment we arrived, I understood why he likes it so much. “For Hanoi style pho, this place is probably one of the best. I mean, they kind of HAVE to be given that's really the only dish on the menu! So in that sense, it feels like a larger version of a food stall straight from Vietnam!

The Northern pho broth here has a really strong beef flavor, and it's not as seasoned with spices as the southern version of pho broth is; they explain this on the signs in the shop, which are very informative. The cuts of meat are high quality and melt in your mouth! They have lots of unique Northern pho condiments on the table, but my very favorite is the pickled garlic; DO NOT MISS THIS. It adds such a unique layer of flavor when enjoying your pho! I grew up with Southern style pho and always loved it, but this is such a good version that I cannot decide if I like Southern vs. Northern more; I will have to be THAT person and say I just love both!

TIP: they have a restroom here that's a little hidden given it's so small. Just ask to use it if you're not sure where the door is!“
