The rice goes so well with the crunchy vegetables and the grilled pork chop. Overall, this place is so good.“

“Went on a weekend before they opened maybe 30 minutes before and was able to get a seat in the first seating at the counter. The food was really delicious and I understand the hype. I really like the lychee slushy. The oysters they had were my favorite and I really enjoyed the rolls and sandwich. They do have the option to order online which is great because I passed by during the week and line was still long.“

“This place is cozy and makes for a nice place to go out with friends, dates or even alone! I went in by myself and tried their banh mi, which despite not being like what you would find in a typical Vietnamese spot, was super tasty and I highly recommend it. Use my photo as evidence of how good it is, I ate half of it before I finally took a photo, haha. The bread itself was soft, it tasted fresh, and the filling wasn't overly spicy or bland, it was just right. The baked goods looked tempting and I might have to try them next time.

Service wise, they're great. The staff will let you know how long you'll wait for items and they are good at what they do, both in the front facing customers and in the back prepping.“

“Sao Mai is a family-run restaurant in the East Village that serves traditional Vietnamese staples. We came here on a Saturday night, and the place is packed. They don’t accept reservations, so allow yourselves some time to be seated.

For our group of 4, we were seated early as we chose to dine slightly early. For appetizers, we devoured crispy spring rolls served with lettuce and mint leaves, and crispy calamari with a dipping sauce. Both appetizers were freshly made and delicious.

We then ordered our own entrees. For myself, I selected grilled lemongrass pork chop with fried rice. Everyone enjoyed their dishes; my friend even quipped that it was really a good, unpretentious dinner to be had.

With a good price point and friendly customer service, we can’t wait to come back to try their other dishes.“

“Absolutely loved my meal at JoJu UES! I ordered the bulgogi bowl and added the lemongrass chicken - both were fantastic.

The bulgogi completely stole the show - it was incredibly juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. The chicken was delicious as well, and they were very generous with the portions of both proteins.

“I got the OG Pho. It was fine. The flavor was somewhat savory sweet but ultimately just fine. Pork belly bao was similarly savory and satisfying. The hoisin sauce definitely helped.

The best part was the service. Efficient is the best way to describe it. I barely got to talk to my friend because the food was there first.

They do not use soy sauce and many peanuts for those with allergies. Compared to other vietnamese places they are very accommodating to many diets, but at baseline their menu is safe. The chicken is tender, juicy, and full of flavor, and I really like how a squeeze of lime lifts the broth and makes it taste even brighter and fresher. The portions are generous, the service is consistently good, and the restaurant is always clean, well-kept, and nicely decorated. I often come here for lunch with my coworkers, and it has become one of those reliable spots we keep returning to. If there’s one downside, it’s that the restaurant only opens from lunchtime onward, so sadly it’s not an option when I’m craving a good bowl of pho in the morning.“

“I was in the area and I come there for Korean food but happened to notice this place stating Korean Vietnamese food and was a little skeptical. I am Vietnamese and do speak Vietnamese and know the Vietnamese names for the dishes. This woman knew how to make vietnamese food with her Korean flare,just didn't know the names understandable. I inquired about one dish the call Bun Cha and is actually with Bun the skinny rice noodles and flattened pork meatballs and actually was made famous by president Obama visiting Hanoi, a Northern Vietnamese dish and not cold dipping noodles as they say that's a Korean dish.“

- Wilted Pea Shoots - heavy on aromatics, for better or for worse :P
