“My daughter chose this for a birthday dinner. The food was absolutely amazing and the service was fantastic. Audrey was our server. She was extremely knowledgeable of the menu, made great recommendations, she was there when we needed her without being there too often. I would highly recommend Rosella Sushi. “I am a frequent guest at the Nami Nori Williamsburg location, and unfortunately tonight's visit was not a positive experience for my group. I brought a new guest to the restaurant, and she did not have an enjoyable time. She was asked to move her bag even though the bar hooks was not suitable for hanging it, and later, we felt rushed out of the space. While I understand that the restaurant may need to accommodate other parties, the venue was fairly empty, and it was very cold outside. After paying for our meal, we were finishing our conversation when we were asked to collect our coats, which added to the feeling of being pushed out. In the future, it would be helpful to communicate any dining time limits at the beginning of the experience rather than at the end. As a loyal supporter of this location, this visit felt disappointing and not aligned with the standard I've come to expect and recommend to my community.“

“Mikado sushi in Lexington Avenue is my favorite sushi spot for lunch! They have amazing specials including sushi rolls like Wagyu, spicy crab ans scallops! 4 rolls for $20! “I had a really wonderful time here - and enjoyed the excellent food! I found the service to be extremely attentive, and all the staff very responsive to needs and the fact that I am pescatarian and requested one modification to the set omakase. I got the 15 course omakase with the sake pairing and all of the pieces were delightful! The fish was firm and fresh, and tasted great, and I loved the light hand the chef used for the sauces. I will definitely come back.“

My full review of each aspect of the meal:

Food:
We booked the Gentei Omakase experience and loved every bite. I had very high expectations for the rice with how much they talk about it on the website, and even those expectations were exceeded. The rice is spectacular. When it comes to the fish, it was a wonderful mix of classics like Otoro, and an introduction to new favorites of mine like the Kinki. Each piece tastes delicious and came with the perfect amount of freshly grated wasabi. Understanding the selection was seasonal, the mix was just perfect. There were cuts of perfectly springy texture, melt-in-your-mouth buttery sweetness, and delicate umami flavor. I can’t really put into words how the food had changed my view of sushi forever. NOW, let me talk about the sake pairing. My sake experience was H-Mart sake, so maybe I’m not the expert. That said, this sake pairing has completely changed everything I thought sake could be. Brandon, our sake expert, was kind of enough to dumb down the explanations of all the sake to us, giving us a history lesson on each bottle and helping us learn tasting notes to look out for. I felt like it was like someone showing me a whole new world that I didn’t know existed. If you are reading this, best of luck on the exam next year! I want to thank you for making our evening so special.

Service:
I may not have the 20+ Michelin meals the other reviewer had, but of the few I have had, this one stands out as by far the best. They were able to blend together an intimate dining experience and a show. It was food with a little showmanship to curate to those who wanted pictures of every piece and those who wanted to just sit and eat. The chefs were attentive, asking questions on taste and consistently giving context to what we were eating. They gave a thorough explanation on the origins of the rice, and even gave context about seasonality of the fish. I felt like I was in a masterclass, being taught by two of the best to ever do it. Then the rest of the wait staff was just absolutely fantastic. They came by with phone rests, and even cleaned up small drops of sauce on the serving plate, to assure it did not compromise the flavor of the next piece. The level of attention was perfect without being over the top.

The shrimp and crab dumplings and Persian cucumber salad were both very good (though not as spicy as expected). My main dish, the spicy Maine lobster roll, was incredible, and the Tuna Toro hand roll was also excellent. However, the Bluefin Tuna Toro roll was disappointing—the mix with shishito peppers didn’t work and left an off taste.“

“We really enjoyed it. Very cozy in a small space in the basement of the Sanctuary Hotel. Sushi counter for 8. We got the 17 piece omakase dinner for $100. Great price for fresh fish served with nice finishes. The sake was good as well. Excellent service by Juan the barnan/ greeter and Brian our sushi chef. It was a fun experience.“

“What a crazy night! We rolled home… it was so much food. And it was all delicious. The tuna is super fresh and they were very generous with all the ingredients. Did not give a lot of rice with each piece. The rice was very well seasoned and delicious. What a good deal!“

“We were out walking and I wanted a quick snack, so I got the salmon salad. It was perfect for a quick pick me up and not too heavy, tasted fresh, and the quality felt decent for the price (an expensive snack).

Service was brisk but we only ordered takeout so we didn’t see much of it“

“I don't usually eat raw fish but I went on a date at this place undecided that what the hell I'll give it a chance some of it was actually really good even though some of the textures weren't really my thing but I was surprised that I actually liked some of it. The service was good the only thing I didn't like was that they were bringing out the sushi really fast and mixing that with sake made me get sick in the end I don't think it was the food itself I think it was because the servings were rushed so I was eating really fast and drinking sake... Other than that it looks good and tastes pretty good at least most of it my recommendation is not to rush the food out to the customers especially when it's not so busy...“

“Delightful! We were in early after a day of hoofing all over mid-town. We were greeted by our server and seated immediately (like I said, It was early) but un-rushed as we reviewed our options. We both ordered sushi-sashimi combinations as well as gyoza to keep it light. All excellent! The fish was so fresh and perfectly sliced/prepared. An avocado green salad was crisp, fresh and more than enough. The gyoza was obviously made with care, moist and tender. My wine accompaniment rounded out our meal. Our server was charming and helpful“

“I ventured to this spot after a meeting for a solo lunch. I came on a weekday between lunch and dinner, so I was seated immediately. The hostess was extremely helpful & nice, she explained the ordering process very clearly. Seeing my dish slide down the conveyor belt was just a lot of fun and the wall of Anime figures near the bar is incredible. I love One Piece & Dragon Ball so it was definitely a nice touch.

Best:
The Yellowtail was so fresh! That and the Aburi Salmon Mayo were my favorite types of nigiri.
My favorite rolls were definitely Volcano & Yummy 😋

Pass:
Chicken Karage, while cooked perfectly, it was very dry and the coating was not the best.
Also I'd stay away from the hand rolls. The rice makes up 75% of the filling.

Lastly please note sashimi does not appear on the ayce menu, so just keep that in mind if you're not looking to consume too many carbs.“

“Ordered the 3 rolls box and while the quality of the fish did taste good and fresh, the avocado to fish ratio was a little heavier than I expected/was used too. The eel & avocado roll was mostly an avocado roll with eel sauce and barely has any fish in it. If I lived here I would maybe give it another chance? But also know there’s better places that wouldn’t let me down!“
