“I loved the place - best sushi and rolls in entire NYC across all the boroughs. Not sure why people are complaining about the price - it is decent for NYC. People have to make money not give the food for free folks.Service- super fast. Ty?For all the negativities- look at the pictures they post- the food look good. Some pictures are just blurred proving pretty much nothing about the quality they complain about.“

“I came here a friend and had 2 rolls (salmon and tuna), one sea urchin, and one wagyu single piece. All the food was incredible. Some of the best sushi I've had in my life. My friend had 2 vegetarian rolls, which both were delicious. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that enjoys higher quality sushi, especially at lunch since they have some discounted rolls.“

“A hidden gem on the UWS! The lunch omakase is less than $40, and even the premium omakase is only around $60 including tip. Honestly, that’s cheaper than many regular restaurants in NYC, especially for omakase.

“We had the Standard Dinner at Uka Omakase and it was such a fantastic experience! The meal included a delicious miso soup, 12 pieces of nigiri, a hand roll, and dessert. Every bite was so thoughtfully crafted.

What really stood out to me were the unique flavor combinations and decadent toppings. The bluefin tuna with mushroom was incredible, and I especially loved the piece topped with miso yuzu. The chu toro with foie gras was rich and absolutely indulgent, while the piece topped with caviar added another delicious layer of flavor.

There were so many memorable pieces throughout the meal, and I loved that the nigiri went beyond traditional flavors with creative combinations that still allowed the quality of the fish to shine. Everything felt elevated, flavorful, and beautifully balanced.

Definitely a great omakase experience for anyone who loves sushi and enjoys trying creative, luxurious flavor combinations.“

“Pros: Good spot, good food, good sushi selection for being a small space. Cons: Place was very busy when we went (6/13/21) and service was slow. Took 20 minutes to get dessert. Some of our plates and soy dishes were not well cleaned from previous use. Ordered and was charged for two dishes to go, but only one was actually packed. Overall 3 stars due to the cons we experienced, but hoping that was just catching them at a bad time.“

“Fabulous, in every way. Kinoko was amazing, deluxe sushi plate included more sashimi than advertised, including rarities like snapper and 3 different grades of tuna. Reasonably priced saki and the matcha tiramisu was decadent with perfect lady fingers. One of the best sushi meals of my life.“

“Sushi was some of the best I’ve had. Chefs know what they’re doing with the glazes and sauces.

Service was attentive, but I wish they had more info about the dishes. Info such as ingredients in the sauces, where the fish came from etc.

The service was also very authentic to Japan in the sense that they were rigid about timing and when we were allowed to order certain things. If you missed your chance to order certain sections of the menu they wouldn’t take the order. lol it felt just like being in Japan.

HOWEVER they did accommodate an unusual dietary restriction and we very much appreciated that.

I think it’s fair because there’s no tip (it’s included in the price). Which is also true to Japan.“

“Go here with your good friends before going out to a bar in the east village. The service was fast and kind. The beers were BIG!!! And yummy. Try the plum wine why don’cha. The food was good. There were lots of special types of rolls, low-key just go for anything that has avocado in it. The fried ice cream was unique and yummy, split between three people, it felt like I wanted more, which is a good feeling. Contrast between fried and ice cream and whipped cream was nice. The waiters were kind and they’ll get you in and out efficiently- happy and fed. Have fun! Live on!“

“I had a great time at Kaiyo. It has been a go to for me when I want sushi and am in Long Island City. The front of the restaurant is only the sushi counter, so it isn't noisy or distracting. It's a good place to sit and talk over a meal. The sushi is good and it is reasonably priced.“

“Fast-paced Omakase counter at lunch time, featuring lots of traditional edomae nigiri pieces made with good quality fish. While the shari had the perfect texture and temperature, it did come across as a touch too vinegary for some of the pieces. Some pieces also had maybe a bit too much of a wasabi and soy sauce zing, but overall the experience was very pleasant. Also loved the chawanmushi! Will be back!“
