“I love this restaurant. Never had a bad meal or experience. The burgers are delicious and the service is amazing. The pulled pork poutine is also delish!Had the cheeseburger cheeseburger poutine on our last visit. I think I get this dish more than any other. It is so good. Like a perfect hamburger with toppings on top of poutine. The chef smash with the jersey pulled pork- omg. Delish! Try it while you can!”
“Just across from Gage Park is the cozy and well lit Gage Park Diner. Serving your usual breakfast and lunch fare, this 7 table eatery may be on the smaller side at first glance, but it is truly a quaint and friendly dining option right around the corner. We arrived around 11 am on a Thursday, and by 11:45 almost all of the tables had been filled for lunch. They do a good turnover, so it's unlikely you'll need to wait. For those that can't wait: choose take-away!While seated we overheard folks call-in to place and pick up their orders.PORTIONS/DIETARY OPTIONS:Portions are sizeable for what you pay, and for those who need Vegetarian or Vegan options, they have menus available for you! Those menus aren't short either. They offer a sizeable selection of offerings so you don't feel like you're missing out. Examples include:Just Egg, tofu, bacon tempeh, and vegan pancakes using almond milk.Gluten free options are also available.OUR ORDERS:Being quite ravenous, we ordered the Heck Yeah and the Reuben Hash. These were both served with home fries that had onions in them, but don't worry, the servers are great and will ask you to be sure you're ok with them. The Heck Yeah was a massive amount of food, and well worth the price. I'd highly encourage folks try the Reuben Hash if you are fans of the sandwich. The only suggestion I could give is that they seasoned the potatoes with a bit more salt as they came across a bit bland in the hash, but that could have just been a one-off!PARKING:Parking is free and available for 2 hours directly in front of the restaurant (left hand side of King St)OVERALL:I'd give it a solid 4.5/5! Great service, good food in good sized portions, clean and quaint interior. It's a definite come back restaurant!”
“The food is always amazing here, it’s a scratch kitchen so the menu changes quite often which allows a lot of opportunity to try new things. Most recently I had the lemon pistachio fettuccine main, and it was delicious, zesty and creamy, super filling everything you could wish for.The steak bites are a favourite starter of mine, always on point. The Garlic Parm Fries are good for the first third of the portion then you’re kinda just left with plain fries, what would make it better is if they tossed the fries with the garlic and parmesan before serving to fully disperse the seasoning and cheese throughout the whole dish.Either way the food is really good, portions and quality are well worth the price, you often don’t have any room left to indulge in their fantastic desserts.”
“My wife and I came here for the first time and were told good things. Upon entering there was a funky smell, not sure what it was or how to describe it other than hot plastic. After sitting down the smell faded away. The staff was friendly and we we seated quickly even though it was fairly busy with almost all tables full. The menu was a little surprising, consisting of a handful of burgers, handful of Thai dishes and handful of typical mains like stake or salmon. I went for the Royal Bangkok Noodle Bowl, spicy. It was tasty, good flavours with a touch of heat. My wife had the Sirloin with asparagus and poutine instead of mashed potatoes. The steak was good, cooked perfectly. My wife said she enjoyed it more than the Keg! The poutine was alright but could use more cheese curds, the sauce was definitely off the grocery store shelf stuff. Overall I think it was good but it just seemed to lack in the intangibles perhaps. The atmosphere didn't really have much of an impact on us, but we'll probably be back for the food.”
“My husband and I have been so many times. One time will always stick out and that was when we sat on the enclosed patio on a day where it was pouring rain. The warm, romantic patio kept us dry. We watched the rain through the windows, it is a magical place to enjoy that time.Food is always amazing. My husbands favourite is pork cheek and pineapple pizza and I usually opt for the truffle gnocchi. It’s fabulous. Service is lovely, the atmosphere and mood won this place as one of our favourite spots!”
“We dine here quite often and the food and service is always great. My only issue was our most recent visit and our server, who was lovely and very attentive was wearing very strong essential oils and I could only taste that throughout my meal. We will be back.”
“LISA IS THE GOAT(I think that was her name). Not only did she make me an amazing pizza, but she was just lovely to talk to and gave me such good service even though that is not her role. The rest ofy experience was fantastic too. My bartender was awesome. Thank you Plank!”
“Adam was our server and he was absolutely amazing! Best customer service I’ve had from a waiter in a long time. The food was great and was served quickly. Will absolutely be returning again soon and hope to have Adam as my waiter again :)”
“After an underwhelming experience with The Dirty South food truck several years ago, I decided to give their brick and mortar establishment a chance, and I'm thrilled to report that it was an entirely different and delightful experience. The transformation from the food truck to the restaurant seems to have worked wonders, as the establishment exuded a clean, inviting, and rustic Southern charm that immediately caught my attention.Walking into The Dirty South Restaurant, I was struck by the bright and cozy atmosphere that effortlessly combined southern warmth with a modern touch. The inviting ambiance set the tone for what turned out to be a flavorful culinary journey.Dining with a group of four, we eagerly placed our order, selecting a variety of dishes to sample the diverse offerings of the menu. The selection included Pulled Pork Wontons, Fried Chicken Skewers, Mac and Cheese Balls, Poutine, the formidable Big Pig Mac and Cheese, and a generous serving of 1 pound of Brisket. The Brisket, served with a saucy glaze and thinly sliced, showcased a promising foundation, but as a meat enthusiast, I yearned for a bolder meat flavor and a thicker cut. Personal preference might guide me to order it without the sauce next time, seeking a more authentic meaty taste and a heartier texture. While the overall experience was superb, a few minor imperfections did make themselves known. The Mac and Cheese Balls, while undoubtedly delicious, leaned slightly towards dryness, which detracted from their potential indulgence. The kitchen's mastery over flavors was never in doubt, yet a touch more moisture could elevate these bites to perfection. Now, let's talk about the stars of the show. The Pulled Pork was a genuine triumph, and its place as the highlight of the meal was undeniable. The pulled pork sandwich, piled high with tender, succulent pork, was a symphony of flavors that harmonized perfectly. The revelation, however, was the Pulled Pork Wontons, marrying the delightful essence of the pulled pork within a crispy shell. Each bite was an explosion of textures and flavors that was nothing short of delightful. The Fried Chicken Skewers were an unexpected delight that left us craving more. The only complaint among us was that we hadn't ordered extra servings. The interplay between the seasoned, crispy exterior and the juicy chicken inside was a testament to the kitchen's culinary prowess. In the end, The Dirty South Restaurant provided an overall memorable experience. The transformation from an unimpressive food truck to a thriving restaurant has clearly been a fruitful journey. While there were minor hiccups, such as the slightly dry Mac and Cheese Balls and the brisket's thickness, the undeniable highlights were the Pulled Pork creations and the Fried Chicken Skewers. The restaurant's inviting atmosphere and Southern charm make it a place worth revisiting. With a few tweaks, it has the potential to be an undeniable five-star experience.”
“Okay burgers, Great Poutine. They are the only place that have never made a mistake on my order, probably do to the fact that everything is plain and you add toppings after. If you want a good meal than order the Angus with bacon and cheese and a Poutine with extra cheese curds. Its not healthy at all but is delicious.”
