The Chirashi Bowl is my favorite because fresh lemon, wasabi and shoyu sauce highlight the assorted sashimi and rice. As in Japanese cuisine, where it’s believed to have digestive benefits, a small vibrantly-colored Dendrobium orchid blossom is an edible, delicately-flavored garnish on each dish. 🌸“

“It's sushi, on a conveyor belt. Everything was good, nothing seemed over-priced, staff was friendly. The only downside here is the same as any grab your own sushi, it can get room temp pretty quick. I wonder if the conveyor was supposed to be a cooling system at one point because it has a lot of vents, but they also serve fried foods which would cool off too much.“

“This place is special. We had a piece of bluefin that was shear perfection. Also, a deep friend scallop was incredible. Everything was great. The only thing is the tasting menu isn’t a ton of food, I wouldn’t go too hungry. Or if you’re still hungry you can order more after the tasting menu.“

We ordered a few rolls and a chirashi, and want to come back just to try more. The rolls were decent size and the chirashi had plenty of fish, all feeling fresh.

“Anyone can seemingly make sushi seem better by making it more complex, but the real test is whether they can take the simple and make it excellent. Sushi-Ki-ichi does just that. They stick to the simple offerings, leading to an experience that feels less Americanized than other Japanese restaurants. That's because the family that owns Sushi Ki-ichi wants to create an authentic meal - a notion that was confirmed for sure when we had a conversation with the owner. In fact, they take quality to the next level with their equipment and efforts they take to make sure that what they serve is the highest quality, including specific freezers for the fish. We didn't try Sushi Ki-ichi for the first couple of years because we figured that the previous restaurant, a Chinese buffet that had gone downhill and fallen off the cliff, had rebranded and reopened as something new. “In my humble opinion this is the best sushi in downtown Portland. Cute little family owned shop, smallest restaurant from I've ever seen. The sushi is always perfect and they have the best and honestly the correct prices for their food.

They offer two combo deals that have a solid mix of sushi. One for $11 and one for $12.

“We love this place! We eat here regularly, and truly enjoy the food, cocktails, service, and ambiance. The black cod miso yaki is our favorite dish - it's delicious and I highly recommend it. The veggie and shrimp tempura is the best I've ever had, with an interesting mix of eggplant, mushrooms, squash, lotus root, and onions - all lightly battered and served with a delightful dipping sauce (pour the dipping sauce on the black cod, it's so good). The cocktails, especially the Japanese 75 and the shiso gin drink (I can't think of the name), are well-balanced and mixed properly, and are very yummy. I tell everyone I know to try this place! Some of the food can seem adventurous if you're not familiar with Japanese fare, but it's all delicious and beautifully presented. Finally, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the owner is a very sweet and funny lady. All around, Sushi Kuni is a great dining experience and I highly recommend checking it out.“

My fiance and I drove to Portland for the day and made the last minute decision to try out a sushi place. Hana Sushi and Izakaya Pearl turned out to be a lovely surprise.

Food was quick and fun as it was distributed on a conveyor belt. We did also order from the menu (a fried tuna roll) which was also fantastic.

For drinks we got the Vietnamese Iced Coffee, one with brown sugar pearls, coconut milk and Oreos and the other with just oat milk and Oreos. The drink customization was an awesome surprise--definitely order a drink from them as it will not disappoint!

We will definitely come again if we are ever in the Portland area.“

“While visiting Portland, I came across Momoji, a small sushi restaurant that turned out to be a great find. Even though it's not a big place, the quality of the food really stood out. The sushi rolls were fresh, flavorful, and made with care. My favorite was the Salem Roll, which had an awesome combination of ingredients and tasted fantastic. I also decided to try the sushi burrito since it was something different from my usual order. It was unique, packed with fresh ingredients, and much more filling than I expected. I ended up finishing the whole thing. The staff was friendly, my food came out quickly, and the overall experience was excellent. I always enjoy finding small local restaurants that put so much effort into their food, and this place definitely did. If you're in Portland and looking for good sushi, Momoji is worth checking out. I couldn't decide what I wanted to try first, so I ordered a half order of the Glazed and Confused, half order of the Mother of Dragons and an order of the Starry Inari. SO SO good! “Went here on a whim with a colleague and the atmosphere is gorgeous and refined but has a taste of izakaya to it! The food was absolutely delicious! I had the shrimp tempura maki and the wagyu (from Hokkaido, not American wagyu) nigiri and it was perfect! My colleague had the sashimi bento and bao bun. She fell in love with the bao bun and miso soup that came with the bento. Staff are super nice, attentive, and ready to answer any questions about the menu. I will definitely be back!“
