“This place is so quaint and aesthetically pleasing! Was greeted by the owner and she recommended some great items. We got the chai and matcha latte with the omurice and loaded fries which were all so delicious! Would come back again to try other things!“

“I’ve been here only a few times in the last few years but I came in last week and I was pleasantly surprised!
Stand out fish is the Smoked Ceviche. It is a must if you come here $35 is a little pricy but the amount of fish they gave you is 💯 worth it. Normally it’s just smoked salmon wherever you go but I loved the mixed fish option here.
Nigiri’s sushi are comparable to Haminohana and Hatsayuki but I do think the prices are a little higher. Black cod and Salmon Belly are chef’s kiss!
I didn’t try any sushi rolls, no comment there.
Hand rolls are also equivalent to the restaurants I mentioned above.
Ube ice cream is good. I believe it’s sourced locally.
So, if you’re in this area I would say give it a try. Prices are higher but there’s more seating which is nice.“

“First-time guest experience. My son and I enjoyed the ramen soup selection Nishiki along with fried dumplings. Clean and modern dining area, kind and attentive service, and of course great food. Some of the best service we’ve ever received at an Asian restaurant.“

“Takoyaki was very good, lots of Bonita flakes given. Ramen was great, however beware Shin Jiro is QUITE spicy, and portion size is insane, maybe too much food for two! If you can tolerate a ton of spice go for it, but if not maybe sit that one out 😅“

Lamb skewers, Lamb Polo rice and beef Naan are the best 👌🏼
The place is very clean and neat, service is great too.

“The variety of food on the all-you-can-eat menu is great, and our waiter Nathan was incredible. He was on top of everything, and when my daughter said she loved the robot (the machine that brings food to your table) he brought it back out just for her. Definitely a new go-to for us.“

“We had an amazing experience at Yujo. Tony went out of his way to make my birthday special from complimentary appetizers to desserts. The fish was so fresh and sushi rice was on point and better than any Japanese restaurant I’ve frequented in Dallas. They spent 4 hours just making their sushi rice. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!“

“Place has a wonderful touch to it.Love that I can order through the ipad instead.the cheese katsu bento box is my favorite I love miso soup and the dumplings that come with it super yummy!
The sauces give the cheese katsu and the white rice a good taste and recommend it!
Curry was not my favorite but then again I personally dislike curry because its super strong but for people that love curry definitely try it has lots of curry options!
I also enjoy there little station where your free to pick up your own sauce/spoon/fork and etc.“

“I love sushi, and the food at this restaurant is very good. The ingredients are also very fresh. The most important thing to eat Japanese food is the freshness of the ingredients. Especially raw food. The sushi at this restaurant is quite delicious. The combination of soy sauce and rice, in addition to fresh ingredients. It is simply delicious. Highly recommended to everyone.“

“I’ve lived in Texas for over eleven years and watched the dining scene change considerably. Through all of that, I keep coming back to Chef Otaka-san. There’s a reason.
These days, many new restaurants seem more focused on rankings, expansion, and hype than on staying true to their principles. I respect Chef Otaka-san for doing the opposite, staying focused on what omakase is supposed to be and what he genuinely cares about. Japanese people aren’t eating sushi three times a day; they enjoy yakitori just as much. That, too, is their culture, and Chef Otaka-san’s inspiration comes from that authenticity, not from California rolls designed to please the masses. For diners who care about the essence of a true omakase experience, mabo is a place you should not skip.
This is not a restaurant chasing influencer hype or free publicity. It’s for guests who genuinely value the experience who are willing to pay for his talent and creativity so he can transport you, for a couple of hours, to another part of the world without leaving Dallas.
Back in my earlier days here, there were more places that felt this sincere and grounded. As things grow more superficial, I almost feel sad that restaurants like this are becoming rarer. That’s part of why I felt compelled to write this review: sometimes the quiet achievers deserve to have their value recognized.
I’ll admit I hesitate to share my hidden gem. I don’t enjoy competing for reservations, and a selfish part of me wants to keep this spot easy to book, especially compared to some overvalued places out there. But when I think about how long Chef Otaka-san has been in Texas, nearly four decades, he deserves far more recognition than he’s received. He has been an ambassador of sorts, giving those of us in Dallas the opportunity to experience this level of omakase for years.
Today was my fiancé’s birthday, and I brought him here because I wanted him to experience what I think of as the “Teppo feeling” I had when I first moved to Texas. For me, it was more than just dinner; it was reconnecting with a memory and a standard of sincerity that has become rare.
I hope more people come to understand the depth of what Chef Otaka-san has given to this community and that he, in turn, recognizes his own value rather than feeling discouraged by the rankings and metrics that third-party reviewers throw around. He may not be the most talkative showman (which I appreciate, sometimes I don’t want conversation), but if you ask him a question and approach him as a genuine human being, I think you’ll understand what I mean. I hope this helps someone else experience what my fiancé and I had today.“

“This is such an underrated place! Came here for a quick sushi fix and was blown away by the quality of their food. We ordered salmon avocado, shrimp tempura roll, snow mountain roll, and sex on the beach roll. The fish to rice ratio is on point, and everything tasted really fresh. The staff were all so warm and welcoming!! Will definitely come back again“

“As someone who has visited many Japanese restaurants over the years, I can honestly say Kichi Bar is one of the best dining experiences I’ve had. Every dish showed the chef’s skill, attention to detail, and clear passion for Japanese cuisine. From the very fresh sashimi and perfectly made sushi to the rich uni pasta and beautifully cooked Wagyu steak, everything was excellent. Each item had its own distinct flavor, and it was obvious that a lot of care went into every detail. This wasn’t just a good meal. It was a memorable dining experience. One of the highlights of the evening was the non-alcoholic cocktails made by the bartender. They were refreshing, beautifully presented, and paired really well with the food. Each drink complemented the dishes and made the meal even more enjoyable. The restaurant itself has a beautiful atmosphere. It feels elegant but not overly formal, and the private dining room made the experience feel even more special. It was the perfect setting for a relaxed yet upscale dinner. The service was just as impressive as the food. Everyone on the staff was friendly, professional, and genuinely welcoming. What stood out most was how knowledgeable they were. They explained each dish clearly and answered every question with confidence. That level of service made the experience feel personal and memorable. Kichi Bar is much more than a sushi restaurant. Everything came together perfectly, from the chef’s cooking and the bartender’s creative drinks to the excellent service and beautiful atmosphere. It was a meal I will remember for a long time.
I don’t give five star reviews often, but Kichi Bar truly deserves it. I look forward to coming back.“

“This was my second visit for take out/drive through lunch and I am still shocked at how delicious, fresh and well priced the food is at this unassuming restaurant. They made a tiny mistake with my order and were so generous in making it right that they are now stuck with me as a customer and cheerleader. If you’re traveling on 635 in east Dallas, this is such an easy stop. Do yourself a favor and try it!“

“First time here. Ordered takeout due to pandemic. Came on a Friday evening around 7:30pm. Ordered 4 rolls: rainbow roll, dragon roll, Greenville roll, & spicy tuna kiss roll. Presentation is nice. Fish quality is smooth, creamy, and does not have a frozen multiple times texture. Flavor is nice. Roll pieces are actually bite sized and -just- fit in your mouth. (I have a small mouth, so they may fit better in an average person’s mouth). Kind of disappointed with the minuscule amount of wasabi & ginger that came with each dish, but wasabi taste fresh & has adequate spice. Pickled ginger is quite sweet. Overall, everything was good. I’d recommend & I’d come back.“

“I didn’t know anything about the place, just put Asian in maps. Was there for take out.
Asked for guidance. I don’t like Sushi, but like teriyaki. She recommended the Onion Chicken and it was delicious! It smelled great all the way home and when I finally sat down to eat I thoroughly enjoyed it. Didn’t need to add any soy sauce. I will go back.“
