“Just completed a tour of the Central Texas Barbecue Scene. Visited Snow's BBQ-Lexington, Louie Mueller-Taylor, Kreus Market, Smitty's and Black's-Lockhart, The Salt Lick- Driftwood and Franklin's in Austin. It was great seeing the venues and the family history at these historic sites. I visited Franklin's in the past and felt it was the best brisket I had ever eaten in my life. I am a skeptic when it comes to famous barbecue joints. I must say that Franklin's BBQ was far superior to all of the restaurants I visited with no one even a close second. Aaron's attention to detail from the service, choice of briskets, the cook, the wrap, the holding and even the slicing of the final product is evident in every aspect of his trade. I was lucky enough to run into him at the restaurant and he happily talked BBQ with me. Franklin's may not have the long history of muti-generational BBQ in Central Texas, but he has figured it all out at a level that I have yet to see equaled by the best venues in the country. This is a bucket list restaurant for those who really enjoy BBQ. It is well worth the wait in line“

“My wife and I visited last Wednesday on our vacation from Minnesota. The brisket was great, the barbacoa was the best I've ever had anywhere. The onion rings were amazing and I don't personally care for onion rings. The jalapeno cheese chorizo was outstanding. As good as all those were the beef ribs were the best most perfect bite of food I've ever had... But what really stood out is the amazing staff from Evan greeting us as we walked in the door to everyone that we met so helpful kind and cheerful! Having worked in the service industry for most of my life it's always a joy to be treated so well!“

Brisket was perfectly done, slaw was amazing and I can’t find the words to accurately describe how good the jalapeño bacon Mac n cheese was. Topped it off with a local lager and it was amazing lunch. “We recently used True Texas BBQ for a catered party at our home. We were delighted with the help provided by the catering manager Lisa and her assistant Raven. Lisa made it easy to order the right kinds and amount of food to serve both carnivores as well as vegetarians and vegans. We chose the nacho bar which was easy, colorful, and delicious. With decades of hosting this annual party, we have only rarely had food that was so universally enjoyed by our friends. And, we did savor the leftovers as well!“

“Decided to visit Smokey Mo's BBQ for the first time last Friday, dinner for two. It was easy to park, the restaurant was not busy. Wife and I shared a three meat plate with Brisket, Turkey and Pork Belly Burnt Ends. Sides were bacon cheddar potatoes and mac and cheese. Everything tasted really good, especially the pork belly. It wasn't a five star experience for a detail, though... sides were served cold. Meats were slightly colder than we'd expected, but extremely flavorful. We'll still come back for a second round, and maybe try some of their other options. Service is fast, staff are attentive and polite. Clean tables and restrooms, decent prices.“

But it's like a little bubble of Texas in the ❤️ of whatever the Heart of Texas has become, with friendly staff and a bucket of pickles. “Met a couple friends for lunch, everyone I talked to was extremely friendly. We ordered brisket & sausage accompanied by mac & cheese, chilli beans, and deviled egg potato salad. Brisket was easily a top 5 brisket I’ve had. Sausage was house made and very good went very well with the sauce. The potato salad reminded me of my mom‘s potato salad. It was very, very good. “Stopped by and got a Smokin Mac N Cheese and Smokin Tater with extra jalapeños and I wish I wasn’t full so I could keep eating! Our kids loved their Mac n cheese! We will definitely be back! 10/10 recommend! “This place had hands down the best brisket I’ve ever had in my life, and I’ve been eating brisket in Texas for over 60 years! The turkey, sausage, jalapeño mashed potatoes, macaroni, and cheese. Everything was truly wonderful. This was my first time to ever eat there, and I’ll definitely go back! The stuff was great all the way around my family was definitely impressed :-)

Kid-friendliness: Extremely kid friendly! They had games and activities for the kids to do. I didn’t see everything but I did see some playing volleyball some playing cornhole, a few playing soccer and hacky sack, etc. There was a big field where there were vendors with booths set up selling things.

Parking: We had about 50 in our party and there was plenty of party. It was spread out to where we didn’t have to walk too far.“
