“been coming here since birth, and the two owners have practically watched me and my family grow. the sushi is amazing and fresh, very aromatic. service is kind, feels like home. we were really sad to hear that they would be retiring, but we went to get a party dish under the new owner and it tastes the exact same, which is wonderful. place is small but cozy. only downside would be that during peak hours, it's difficult to find parking. however, the sushi is always worth it at the end.“

“Hidden gem in Burnaby North, best Japanese/Korean venue on Hastings in Burnaby. Definitely the best tempuras in Lower Mainland that I've ever eaten; light and crispy thin batter, not greasy at all. Restaurant overall cleanliness well maintained, convenient parking, exceptionally pleasant and attentive staff. Place is small, so limited tables, so you may want to plan ahead during meal times, as seating could be a bit, we lucked out however, as they weren't very busy in the middle of the afternoon.

Service was quick, and friendly, they are also quite attentive, and feels like they are a step ahead with refills etc.

Rolls were basic but they nailed the simplicity of the California, salmon and dynamite rolls - prices are very fair for portion -

Probably will re-visit to explore the menu more, however a tad out of the way.“

“I had a great experience at this sushi restaurant. I sat at the counter and watched the Japanese chef prepare the sushi right in front of me. Everything was clean and hygienic throughout the meal, and the service was excellent.
The Plum Wine was really good, and the sushi was fresh and delicious. The only minor downside was that the Appetizer Tempura wasn't quite crispy enough. Overall, a great sushi experience and I would definitely come back.“

Our Nemo-6-Special-Rolls (48pieces) tray is fabulously delicious, so does the other kind of Sushi, Oshi, we ordered, we like the acid-sweet balance and texture of their sushi rice; Nemo's Sashimi slices are some of the freshest and thickest cut compared to the other Japanese-sashimi class restaurants we tried; though we ordered 19-dishes for 12 guest, there was not much left that we pack as left over, a solid testimony of how much we enjoyed our food at Nemo.

The ingredients were high quality, the presentation was beautiful, and you can tell a lot of care goes into every dish. The menu offers some exciting new options, bringing a different flavor and experience compared to before. The staff were welcoming and attentive, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. It's great to see this restaurant thriving under new management. “I almost walked past this place because the exterior looks a bit dated and the surrounding area isn’t particularly eye-catching. The dining room is also quite small and the interior could definitely use some updating. However, the high ratings convinced me to give it a try, and I’m glad I did.

I ordered the aburi sushi combo, a tamago nigiri, and a miso soup.

The miso soup was probably the weakest part of the meal. It tasted like a fairly standard instant-style miso soup with soft tofu and rehydrated seaweed. One small suggestion: the soup bowl I received was very heavily scratched from years of use. As I got further into the soup, it became difficult to tell whether the marks were simply wear or if the bowl wasn’t completely clean. Replacing some of the older bowls would improve the overall dining experience.

The real highlight was the aburi sushi combo. It took a little longer than expected to arrive, but once it did, I understood why. The presentation was beautiful, the variety was excellent, and the quality of the fish really stood out. Every piece had great flavor, the fish was fresh and nicely marbled, and the torching added a wonderful aroma. Considering the price, it’s honestly an outstanding value and something I’d definitely recommend ordering.

My only suggestion for the aburi sushi is that it was slightly oilier than necessary. It looked like the sushi was torched directly on the serving plate, leaving quite a bit of rendered fish oil underneath. The rice had already absorbed some of the oil from the fish, and then picked up even more from the plate. It wasn’t greasy enough to ruin the dish, but it did make the overall bite a little heavier. I think torching the sushi first and plating it afterward could help preserve the same great flavor while keeping the rice lighter.

The tamago nigiri was just okay. It tasted like the tamago had been refrigerated and reheated before serving, so it lacked the soft, freshly made texture I was hoping for. To be fair, I visited around 4 p.m. and I was the only customer, so I completely understand why they weren’t making fresh tamago at that time. It was a little disappointing, but not a dealbreaker.

The service was friendly and efficient. Nothing particularly exceptional, but definitely pleasant.

Overall, despite the dated interior, the quality of the sushi exceeded my expectations. With a few small improvements, this place could be even better. I’d happily come back again, especially for the aburi sushi combo.“

“I absolutely adore Okoman! We have been here a handful of times now and have been happy with every experience. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is nice and cozy and the service is wonderful! Our server Loui was an absolute delight too. We both had a long tiring day, but felt our spirits were lifted a lot after eating such a yummy meal and had a great customer service experience with Loui- the Okoman team is lucky to have him. This has got to be one of my favourite usual spots, so I if you find yourself hungry, or in the burquitlam area, I really recommend checking it out.

“This was easily the best korean meal i’ve had. The lunch special that included the assorted marinated seafood, raw fish salad, cockles and rice, cod stew, grilled mackerel, and stone pot rice was fantastic value and it could easily feed 3 people. I came for my birthday and while they do not offer anything special for birthday patrons, they did offer me a drink and the kind service plus delicious fresh and authentic food made the meal really special. I cannot understate how good and fresh everything was. There was absolutely no fishiness to anything and it was a heartwarming meal. We will be going back!“

“Honestly I've seen people's posts from before and disappointed that they didn't enjoy the experience. Whatever has changed since last year I personally found the sushi well made the miso soup nice and hot with good flavor. The roll was fresh with perfect texture and surprisingly good flavoring as well. I was also appreciative of how kind the worker was and would highly recommend coming here as the prices are very good for what you get. You deserve this 5 star!“

“Love this place! I have been here a few times already and they have not disappoint. We had the:
Deluxe Sashimi - super fresh and a nice variety of sashimi.
Aburi Sushi - we have tried a few, and the salmon oshi one remains my favorite. The spicy salmon shio was a very close second. We tried the Saba one as well, it was not my thing, but the rest of my taste loved it.
Rolls: we also tried their regular rolls, Dragon roll was delicious as well as the the Tokyo Roll.

Service was great. Friendly and attentive staff.

Parking was wonderful. Tons of free parking right in front, didn't have a problem at all.

“I love this place. My parents and I have been regular customers for quite some time now, and I can say that nothing has disappointed me yet. My usual would be a teriyaki bento meal with a kappa roll, and every single time I have been met with the smell of delicious food and really good taste. “Sorry, I did not take pictures, we had the chicken skewers and they were raw inside, the staff were great about replacing them with something else we would like i.e. California rolls. They were very apologetic. I think it was a one off. Everything else was delicious, especially the vegetarian combo.

both were fresh, tasted very good, the prices of these rolls were i think reasonable.

Our host frequents Tentatsu and led us through the courses as we don't do sushi very often but this night may have changed our mind. The atmosphere was lovely with these Hugh tree in the centre of a comfortable light restaurant with comfortable booths offering privacy and an intimate setting. Service was excellent, friendly and courteous and the food was fresh and very good. The miso soup was different but very good and really enjoyed the sashimi and the rolls.
