It's a solid restaurant and bar, and I've known quite a few bartenders and servers there during the last five or so years. What really keeps it on my list, though, is Leigha behind the bar. Leigha makes a great Old Fashioned, but it's more than just the drinks. Leigha has a way of making the bar feel comfortable and familiar, like catching up with a neighbor rather than just ordering another round. The conversation is always easy, never forced, and it's one of the main reasons my friends and I choose Salt when we're deciding where to go downtown. We usually check to see if she's working before making plans. That says a lot. Downtown Woodstock has plenty of good spots, but Leigha is a big reason Salt continues to stand out for us.”

Walking up to the door, you might think you stumbled into an action movie or a SWAT briefing. Ryan and Frank are holding it down and their presence is massive.

Ryan is the quintessential giant. He looks like he stepped straight out of an elite tactical unit, but the second he speaks that tough guy stereotype disappears. He is not a jerk and he is not there to power trip. He is genuinely kind and focused on making sure people feel safe from the moment you step on the curb until you are walking back to your car at the end of the night.

Then there is Frank. The guy has the presence of someone who belongs in a Jason Statham movie, but in reality he is a total teddy bear. Between the two of them they have created an environment that feels grounded and protective while still being welcoming to everyone. It is a rare thing to see people who look that imposing while making people feel that comfortable.

Behind the Bar: Alanna

Once you are inside, the vibe continues because of Alanna.

She is an absolute gem. There is a warmth to her that lifts the whole room. She does not just take orders. She actually looks after people. Her knowledge of tequila is impressive and she went out of her way to track down a bottle I did not even realize they had just to make sure I got something great to try. That kind of effort is what turns a bar into a place people want to come back to.

You go for the vibe and presence Frank brings to the door.
And you go for the heart, which is Alanna behind the bar.
People like them are the reason JD’s feels like a real community spot and the reason it is a place you want to keep coming back to.”

“Im addicted.. biggg pizza slices, especially meat lovers and my true obsession is the warm salted pretzels. The flavor of the pretzel dough is amazing. Oh and it’s a freaking dollar!!!! Compared to auntie Anne’s like 6 and some change pretzel, no thanks. Good thing I live close bc between the food and the gas, I practically live there lol, thank you Sam’s Club!!!”

“This my favorite Chinese food restaurant in the area. I have usually get my food to go. I usually get Ckicken Lo Mein and Pot Stickers/Dumplings(steamed). The food is excellent and always hot in tempature. I don't ever have to ask where is the meat for any of their dishes because there is always more then enough. I have nothing bad to say about Golden House.”

The only reason I don't come more often is the price.I wish we could get "healthy sandwiches" at more affordable prices.My son and I ate here, 2 sandwiches, 2 chips, 2 drinks and a shared desert... plus tip... for $40. That's $20 a person. I could do this only when I have gift cards, as I can't afford it on my regular budget.I typically look for places to eat at around $5 a person or less, which is never a healthy option! So outings like this is a special treat.”

“We frequently eat at the Captain D’s on Hwy 92 in Woodstock, Ga. One of the employees, Kirsten, has made the added effort to learn our names and recognize us with a broad smile when she sees us and kind friendly words of hospitality and welcome,seeing to it that we leave with a hometown feeling that our business is appreciated. When she isn’t there, we miss her. Food is dependably delicious and senior specials are a blessing.”

“Ordered takeout and the food I got was very good. I asked for extra spicy and they actually made it spicy unlike other places that don't even after asking. I'm picky with chinese food and this place has amazing value price and food quality wise. The soups are amazing. Both the hot and sour and wonton soup are absolutely delicious. Lunch special has a very good portion size. Def coming back. Got the Kung pao/sweet and sour chicken. Both were very good. The lady at the counter is very nice as well. I liked ordering and getting my food fairly quickly.”

“Pure is a nice Americano take on Mexican dishes. Service was excellent; however, to my surprise, the vegetarian burrito was somewhat bland, and they charged extra for a side of salsa, which was requested to add flavor, which was disappointing.”

“Did the Brunch buffet today. Everything I sampled was good to excellent. Definitely no complaints. All the staff were helpful, courteous, and smiling. JD even played a pinball game with my 2 grandsons. My only complaint, if you want to call it that,was being charged for ice tea. Trust me, that won't stop us from going again. EXCELLENT!!”
