“I ordered lotus root, mapo tofu, and white rice. The lotus was sweet with no other perceptible flavor and was undercooked. The white rice was overcooked and clumpy with little grain definition. The mapo tofu has a good balance of umami, numbing, and heat. It was a little too saucy, but overall a perfectly fine mapo tofu.“

“Got the brand sampler. A meal for $19.60.
Here’s what I thought of each item
Har gow / shrimp siu mai - 3/5, hard to get wrong, just didn’t love it, even with the soy sauce.
Chicken siu mai - 5/5, was my favorite
Sticky rice wrap - 1/5, mushroom and sticky rice was not my favorite
BBQ pork bun - 1/5, wasn’t my thing
Crispy shrimp roll - 4/5, pretty good“

“Had higher than normal expectations for this eatery given the high rating, and was not disappointed at all.
Pork over rice - amazing marinade and butter soft smoky tender meat. Maybe the best pork I’ve had in Manhattan. Five stars. The two diners at the neighboring table also had this.
Tonkotsu ramen - favorful. Loved the thin shredded gyu-style beef which was tender. Noodles were great.
Miso ramen - okay. Preferred the tonkotsu.
Dan dan noodles - okay.
Looks more like a takeout place than a restaurant, but there is table service. Waitstaff were quiet but helpful.
Prices were very reasonable considering it’s near Bryant Park / Time Square.
Not crowded on a Friday night.
I would definitely return!“

“If you want to sit in a very crowded place, this is the place to go. The food was fine. They messed up our order and acted like they were upset that we said anything but the food is good.“

“Doyers Street is this short, sharp-angled little alley in the middle of Chinatown that you walk past maybe six times before you realize you keep missing the entrance, and even when you find it you stand there for a second wondering if you have the right place. You do. Nom Wah has been here since 1920 and it looks roughly like it has been here since 1920, which in this case is the entire point. Red vinyl booths, chrome stools, a counter that has heard a lot of conversations. It seats maybe fifty people and feels like it could accommodate half that comfortably. We waited outside on a Sunday for about twenty-five minutes and it was worth every bit of it.
The thing everyone tells you to get is the Original Egg Roll and they are telling you correctly. It is nothing like any egg roll I had eaten before, it's made with a thin egg crepe instead of the usual wrapper, filled with chicken and vegetables, then battered and fried until it's crispy in a way that cracks when you bite into it. Big enough to split, though nobody at our table actually did. We ordered the shrimp and snow pea leaf dumplings because four different people online had specifically mentioned them, and I would have been fine if that was the only thing I ate. The wrapper is thicker than what you'd get somewhere more modern, slightly chewy in the best way, and the snow pea leaves give the whole thing a fresh quality that surprises you when you're sitting inside a dark room with no natural light. The soup dumplings came next and were the kind that require you to slow down a little, to be careful, and the reward for being careful is a mouthful of pork and warm broth that is excellent and makes you feel like you did something right. The roasted pork bun was soft and warm and sweet from the cha siu and we ordered a second round of those toward the end almost without talking about it.
Dim sum is served to order from a written menu here, not by cart, which some people consider less fun and others consider more practical. I'm in the practical camp so this suited me. Bring cash or Amex, tip well, sit wherever they put you, and order more than you think you need. You'll finish it.“

“Food was great, black truffle soup dumplings were bomb. Plus, it's super close to 1st and 14th so, it's a change of pace from all the empanadas I've eaten from the other place close by. The only thing I would like is a table if I wanted to invite a friend to partake in the food. But, for a quick bite before work?
It's perfect.
I'm gonna try to order ahead of time in the future to see how good is their to go food. No beers... 🥺
(5 dumplings for the soup dumplings order, I ate one for the review😋)“

“😍My very first time here. I was served by Jason, food captain. I guess I was spoiled by his hospitality because I tell you, WHEN I return, if I not being served by him, I'm not going. Every now and again you come across a server who truly enjoys making people fell comfortable, that's Jason, in a nutshell. The food was extraordinary, complimented by spectacular recommendations and hospitality!!!!“

“My husband and I came into town and I said I wanted good Chinese food. He found this wonderful gem and it did not disappoint. We tried the green beans and minced pork, scallion pancakes, and pork dumplings. Everything was fresh, hot, and so flavorful. They even made my husband use chopsticks for the first time.😊. We will be back when we’re in NYC again.“

“The wait isn’t bad, the food is banging and cheap, don’t stand around in the line unless you know what you’re waiting for is the one tip I’ll give, people just stand around without seeing which line they’re in. You can walk right up to the counter if you’ve got cash. Get a few buns to go for later. The shu mai was ok seemed like it had been sitting a while.“

“We stopped by Dim Sum Chelsea on a cold and wet day to get a snack and take a break after a lot of walking around. The restaurant was fairly slow and service was very attentive and friendly. We just wanted a nibble so we only tried the Lotus Rice and the Crab and Spinach dumplings paired with a shared bottle of hot sake. The food was hot and flavorful, the crab and spinach dumplings were juicy but my favorite was the lotus rice that was stuffed with a seasoned meat mixture. I only recently discovered this dish and now its a favorite! I would love to come back to try more dumplings if I'm ever back in the area.“

“You don't go for the surroundings. You go for the spectacular dumplings and steamed buns. The menu is very small, only 7 items, and nothing is vegetarian. They focus on sweet and meaty steamed buns, packed with flavor and so so juicy.
Best part...nothing is more than $5!“

“Fan Szechuan Restaurant & Bar is a fantastic find on the Lower East Side! Authentic, bold Szechuan flavors in a sleek, modern space with great service.🔥
The sweet and sour crispy jumbo prawns are my absolute favorite — huge, perfectly crunchy, succulent, and tossed in the most addictive tangy-sweet sauce. Could eat them every visit!❤️
Other dishes we tried were spot-on, spicy and flavorful. Attentive staff and cool bar vibe too. Definitely coming back. Highly recommend! 🌶️🍤“

“Great dinner for my family tonight at this gem - just five minutes walk from Grand Central station. Unpretentious, authentic dim sum and excellent main dishes with rice, noodles, vegetables and more. The desserts were amazing - especially the black sesame balls and the mochi. Very good service and ambience here - light and bright, wood throughout. Would definitely return.“

“The dumplings are as good here as China Town. Bring 3-4 people and eat them all! I say at the bar and had Soup Dumplings, Shumai and Steamed Rice Roll with BBQ Pork… it’s like a Pork Bun without the Calories! Afternoon Happy Hour large Saki 1/2 price!!! If you’re in Gramacy, you don’t need to take the trip to China Town for excellent Dim Sum. Additionally, they have a Japanese Hibachi Table upstairs.“

“DAO Dim Sum & Chinese Cuisine delivers exactly what you want when you are craving authentic dim sum in New York. It checks every box.
The dim sum was excellent. Fresh, well prepared, and full of flavor. Each dish came out hot and properly timed. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in consistency and quality.
The wonton soup was equally strong. Clean, balanced broth with well-made wontons and great texture. Comforting without being heavy.
Service was fast and courteous. The staff was attentive, efficient, and genuinely pleasant. Food arrived quickly without feeling rushed.
The pricing is very reasonable, especially given the quality and portion sizes. Strong value across the board.
If you are looking for reliable, well-executed dim sum in New York, DAO is a solid choice. Professional operation, good people, great food. Five stars.“

“What a cutie vibey spot! If you’re looking for super authentic Chinese food, this probably isn’t the move but that doesn’t mean the food isn’t delicious!
We booked for a girls dinner and they knew their audience. Great moody lighting, a destiny’s child playlist, cozy booths, and lots of shareable options.
The staff was incredibly warm and playful too. Nico, the GM, was putting in the work. We saw him visiting every table and charmed the whole dining room. He even sent a complimentary dessert to our table.
Looking forward to going back!“

“The food is great. We ordered wild yellow croaker and duck stew with sticky rice ball as dessert. The taste has no problem but the portion is small compared to the price. Two sticky rice balls for 14 dollars. The good point is that the jasmine rice is free.“

“I recently tried Niukee Shumai in Chinatown and really enjoyed it.
Their beef bone soup noodle + shumai combo is perfect for a quick lunch, especially if you work around SoHo or Chinatown. The soup is rich and flavorful, and you can adjust the salt level yourself. The beef was very tender.
The shumai was amazing, even the vegetable one was surprisingly fragrant and tasty. Their purple sweet potato buns are also super cute and made the whole meal even more fun.
Great spot for a warm and satisfying meal!“

“Ate there for the first time today and I was welcomed immediately and was seated very quickly. I don't know who the specific woman is, but she was very alert and had great hospitality. The food portion was very generous and decent Manhattan prices. She was very attentive and communicated often with me to make sure I was okay. She's a talker too and a good listener :). Service was fast. Place is well organized and not overwhelming.“

“I had been wanting to try a Michelin starred restaurant for a while and had heard all about Tim Ho Wan's legendary status in Hong Kong. I will admit I was skeptical. With their expansion, I wasn't sure if the New York location could live up to the original hype. But it is conveniently located in the East Village, so I finally decided to give it a try.
I am so glad I did. This place is dim sum only and it is truly excellent.
Our server, Leo, was wonderful and incredibly gracious. He helped us navigate the menu and made fantastic recommendations.
The quality of the dim sum genuinely impressed me. The chicken feet were different from the usual, braised and not fried, and I really appreciated the tender, flavorful preparation. The steamed meatballs had a distinct, authentic taste of tangerine peel. The shrimp dumplings, or har gow, were perfect with large pieces of shrimp wrapped in a thin, delicate skin that held together perfectly. That is a true sign of a skilled dim sum chef. The sticky rice was packed with generous filling, and the steamed rice rolls had that thin, silky skin that is another mark of mastery.
Of course, we had to try their famous baked BBQ pork buns. Leo was kind enough to bring them to us piping hot so we could enjoy them at their deliciously best and I now understand why they are the bestseller. The fluffy, sweet on outside with savory bbq pork filling is truly amazing!
Even the desserts stood out. My dad loved the osmanthus jelly with goji berries. He said it was not too sweet and was a perfect palate cleanser. My mom liked the coconut sago and my personal favorite was the green tea sesame balls. My daughter could not get enough of the fried turnip cake, which had a great crispy texture. And the whole table agreed the deep fried glutinous rice croquette was a standout. It was crispy, not soggy, with a perfect balance of sweet and salty.
I did not expect to be wowed, but I truly was. The food is authentic, carefully made and served with genuine care. We will definitely be back for more.“
