Often, the food is great but the service is just okay, or the service is excellent but the food falls short. When looking for a place to celebrate my wedding anniversary, a few options came up, and one of them was Sabores Tapas Bar. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it there at the time and ended up going to two other places—one was okay, the other was awful. Later, I told my wife we needed to try Sabores, maybe on New Year’s Day. Again, we ended up at a “safe” spot we like to visit. The food and service were good, but it was just our usual go-to. Fast forward to last week: my best friend from Puerto Rico came to visit with his family. He loves to eat, and his wife can be hard to please. This time, we decided to go to Sabores Tapas Bar. I’ll admit, I was nervous—I wanted them to have a great experience, but pleasing everyone is never easy. Finally, we went. What can I say? The food was amazing, and the service was just as incredible. It was so good we couldn’t stop eating. I had high expectations—growing up, my house was always full because my friends came over for my mom’s cooking. She’s an amazing cook. Mom, forgive me for saying this, but Sabores Tapas Bar is as good as, if not better than, your cooking, and the service was amazing. Wow. I’ve found the place. It’s so good that I want to go back and try dishes I normally don’t like, just to see if they can make me love them. I can’t wait to return. My taste buds have found the love of their life at Sabores Tapas Bar.“

The only complaint I have is every time I have come to this specific restaurant I have gotten over 8 bug bites each time. “I am now a huge fan of Habibi lattes! My daughter and I had brunch at the Detour Coffee Cafe. and the food was amazing. We ordered the Shakshuka and the PB & J toast. Both were delicious! I am now making my own Shakshuka and hoping one day to make Habibi lattes, too. I highly recommend this place.“

The owner is so kind and there are often Moroccan people patronizing the restaurant so you know it's legit. Give it a try if you want an unforgettable meal. “WOW! I live in DC and have tried basically every Thai place in DC but rarely make it to VA. Thai is some of my favorite food. My main complaint with most DC places is that the food is NOT spicy enough. Not the case here! I got the drunken noodles tonight and hands down they were the spiciest best I've had in the area! “Punch Bowl Social is always amazing! Our server Eswin was AMAZING! He went above and beyond to accommodate us and was always checking in. Our drinks hadn’t come out after a bit of a wait, no fault of anyone they were just slammed. Eswin immediately helped us when we voiced this and our drinks were brought out quickly! Food is 10/10, service 10/10 and drinks 10/10 as well as atmosphere! Always coming back!

“This is my favorite wine bar in town because the food is delicious and the wine selection is plenty! I also love being able to taste the wines when I come in to pick up. It’s a nice little treat and more often than not, I am pleasantly surprised and buy a bottle of one of the tastings.“

I’ve had Ethiopian food a couple of times and do believe their food is better. My wife got awaze tibs, while I got the special kitfo, a tar tar style dish. My wife’s was wonderful and I’m sure mine was good as well, but I know tar tar is not for me. Bottom line, if you’re interested in trying Ethiopian food, this would be a great experience.“

“We had our wedding at the Commentary on 5/31/25 and we could not be more thrilled with our experience. Olivia Martel and Chef Fran were PHENOMENAL to work with. Anything we wanted, we got. We wanted a low key, chill wedding, and decided on stations and the pasta bar with a plethora of appetizers and the execution was a 10/10. We loved having the whole bar and restaurant to ourselves in Ballston and welcoming guests from across the country and being in the Commentary’s/Westin’s care. They took really great care of us and we couldn’t be more grateful for the most beautiful day of our lives.“
