“Totally worth the 70 minute drive. Delicious food and great Taiwanese hospitality. Friendly, attentive staff and wonderful atmosphere. Minced Pork (Lu-Rou) Rice, fully loaded delicious stewed pork with egg. Meats are juicy and tender, kinda on the sweet side. Clamshell bun (Gua Bao) comes with tender thick cut pork, a bit on the salty side, but very well cooked. Fatty but not greasy. Thousand layer pancake with egg and basil was crispy and flaky. The basil flavor is a wonderful addition. Scallion bread sandwich was what we expected. Same tender thick cut pork, very happy to eat this. Next time I will probably get the beef, too much pork belly today Wonton soup is very classic, if you like shrimp wontons, you have to try this. We ended the meal with Hakka mochi and Oolong tea, the mochi tasted just like the ones in Taiwan. The tea was fragrant and is just the perfect compliment to the mochi. Overall an amazing meal with warm and friendly people, highly recommend!“

“Absolutely delicious! The handmade noodles were fresh, perfectly chewy, and full of flavor. You can really taste the difference when noodles are made fresh by hand. Everything tasted authentic and comforting. Definitely one of the best handmade noodle spots I've tried. I'll absolutely be coming back!“

My husband and I came for lunch. We ordered the Special pho and beef pho, which was about 18$ and 17$ with tax, and a thai tea. All were delicious, and portion size matched the price point 🫶🏽 I couldn't finish all of mine, but husband gobbled his down quick

The restaurant is quaint and the space small but not tight. There was plenty of seating indoors, and kept cool in the summer heat 👍🏼

“We ate at The Original Hoy-Ka Thai Noodle twice during our time in Hollywood, which should tell you how good it was. The food was consistently excellent, fresh, and full of flavor.
I went for the vegetarian version of their namesake Hoy-Ka noodle soup—wide rice noodles with tofu and mushrooms instead of chicken—and I seriously dreamed about it afterward. The broth had the right balance of spicy, sour, savory, and comforting, with noodles that held up perfectly. It was one of those bowls you keep thinking about long after you leave.
We also had the tofu drunken noodles and tofu R-Ka Prao, both ordered mild and without fish sauce or oyster sauce. Everything was spot on: flavorful, satisfying, and clearly made to order. The Ruam Mitr mixed-fruit dessert was a nice way to cool down at the end.
Parking on Sunset can be a little tricky, but they have valet parking in the back and it is tip-only. Do not let parking scare you off. We would happily eat here again on every trip to Hollywood.“

“This place is such a hidden gem. The food was such a pleasant surprise. I got the Tingly Cumin Dry noodles, and they weren’t too oily or spicy at all (contrary to other reviews). We also got the Mama’s Dumplings which were definitely on the oilier side, but that’s due to the sauce which is made beforehand.

The noodles were so good that we had to get the Szechuan Garlic flavor to-go, but that soon was eaten within the same hour… Also the peach fruit tea is so refreshing and not too sweet.

If you’re worried about too much spice, don’t be. It’s the perfect amount.

And yes the cashier was very patient and helpful.“

“Broth was delicious. The deep umami and subtlety of clam notes made the ramen stock special. Adding the sides they offer like, garlic crisps, were a plus. However, in my opinion, I felt like the ramen noodles did not give the dish its 100%. My partner said it was good overall and I am just slightly nitpicking due to personal preferences of noodles, which were too dense to my liking. I felt like the noodles took away the broth’s complexity rather than a nice balance. At the end I just kept drinking the soup. The chashu pork was tender and not dry at all.

Aside from the ramen, the appetizers such as the karaage, were crunchy and slightly juicy on the inside. The takoyaki was also nice as well.

Overall, the vibe of the restaurant felt cozy and modern, yet I wish they could have played some music to add a little more atmosphere. Service was prompt and quick.“

“If you want authentic Burmese Food, go there. Not pricy, yummy food and warmly welcoming environment.
I really wanted Shan noodle with Tofu but mostly Burmese Restaurant only offered Shan Noodle, but this one has it. So I ordered Shan Tofu Noodle and it’s so fresh. Monhikha is good but texture is thick.
The place is hard to find as it’s really small inside. Waiting time for food is so long, for me, I waited for about 20 25 mins to get my food after already ordering. The lunch special deal is good one.“

“This is my go-to Indonesian restaurant whenever I’m in LA. I live in Colorado, but I travel here from time to time for business, and Wayang is always on my list.

The food is delicious and authentic, and I love that Ibu Lily makes most of it herself from scratch. She used to be a private chef for celebrities in Los Angeles, and you can definitely tell she knows her way around the kitchen. Everything I’ve had here has been full of flavor and thoughtfully prepared.

When I visited, Wayang was only taking to-go orders, but they still had a few tables set up for customers who preferred to eat there. It’s a self-serve setup, you grab your own water and utensils and eat from the takeout container. Honestly, I really liked the casual setup. Since the restaurant was set up for to-go service, Ibu Lily let me stay for as long as I wanted, which was perfect since I had a little work to get done. It made the whole experience feel relaxed and unhurried. This way, I had the chance to try several different dishes.

For me, that’s part of the charm of Wayang: authentic Indonesian food, made from scratch, without all the fuss—it feels like home. I’ll definitely be back.“

Service: as with the many other reviewers, our experience was very similar with respect to the service, as our server was knowledgeable, friendly, competent, helpful, and attentive...did I say friendly...definitely one of the elements we will take away from the evening... Food: on the recommendation of our server, who was very helpful, knowledgable, friendly, and attentive, we ordered the Takoyaki and our server's favourite Spicy Garlic Pork Shoyu Ramen x 2. The latter was described as a "spicy soy sauce tonkatsu broth with garlic is served with two slices of chashu pork, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, egg, fried onions, seaweed, green onions, and buttered corn". I absolutely love ramen, and, to me, what defines any bowl is the soup base, described by a very learned chef as "an intensely porky, opaque pale broth with a sticky-lipped intensity, with the rich, buttery texture of light cream; the best sports tiny nubbins of fat swimming around on their surface, a slick of mayu (black garlic oil) or chile-sesame paste, a handful of thin-sliced green onions, a soft-yolked soy-sauce tinged egg, and a few slices of meltingly tender chashu pork belly". The broth definitely reflected the events described, and the many hours spent in preparation, with a rich texture and flavour, complemented, but not over-powered by either the chili nor the garlic. It was a wonderful recommendation that we would order again! All in all, the evening that left us very satisfied in terms of having our hunger sated, and taste buds quite happy... the true test is whether we return, and, should we find ourselves back in the city, we would most definitely make a return trip to try other dishes!!“

I split it into two meals still (although I probably don’t eat a lot compared to a lot of people). A bit greasy and I wish there was more veg. It was savory but not overly salty.

I felt like it was missing a little bit of nuance in its sweetness but I can’t pin what was missing. There was definitely still MSG because I was thirsty after, so that’s not what it was missing.

The free bone broth is really refreshing (reminds me of sullungtang) and a good way to either start or end your meal.“

“We had dinner at 鹵億鮮 Luyixian in Alhambra last night and really enjoyed it. The food tasted authentic, comforting, and full of flavor.

I ordered the braised beef noodles, which is one of their best sellers, and it was really good—the beef was tender and the broth was rich and flavorful. My wife had the beef brisket with rice, and she really enjoyed hers too.

We’ll definitely be coming back. Another big plus is that they’re open late, so it’s a great spot if you’re looking for a good late-night dinner in Alhambra. Highly recommend!“

“The food was good, but I wasn’t comfortable with the way the server handled the bowls and plates. I saw hisi hands touch the money, computer surface, and the dirty table. Wearing gloves made me uncomfortable, especially when the server’s fingers touched the inside of the bowl. Other than that, the food was great.“
