“Ok, so I generally only leave reviews if I’m absolutely wowed by an experience and that’s absolutely what I got here at Gol Tong Chicken! This delightful shop is a labor of love from the proprietor/chef Gol Tong, who is also of note for being the director of several Korean films, the posters of which decorate the space in the restaurant. There is a whole sound booth in here and many other wonderful quirks - it’s really something. The reason why you’ll be back though is his food! It’s out of this world good - incredibly fresh, perfectly seasoned/sauced Korean fried chicken, the best I’ve had in LA and I’ve tried all of them! Go for The Director’s Cut option on the menu and bring at least two friends to split it with, because this is an exceptionally generous portion! It comes with two sublime sauces for dipping and the whole platter is layered with fresh fruit and veggies. It’s a work of art befitting its name! The fish, which normally in restaraunts are a bit old, a bit chewy, some even foul smelling, but here, the fish was cooked to perfection. So soft, no fishy smell, and you can slither(?) the fish meat right off the bone. It was amazing. Then once you get to the cooked radish? Wow. My favorites are the firm tofu and seaweed. The mushroom, seaweed, and veggie soondubu, as well as the japchae, bibimbap, and pajeon can all be made vegan, and everything is excellent. You can't hear other people very much when your music is going. I didn't have any food so I don't know how that is. The karaoke system is mostly in Korean but you can get around if you don't speak it. The one issue I have is that songs that are listed in the book can only be pulled up via the numerical code and not by searching the song title or artist name. This forces you to spend a lot of time looking through the book which is not in any specific order. Another small issue is the words on the screen do not move and sync with the music so it's better if you know the song by heart.“

“Wow! The best marinated pork ribs! Come on down to Jin Ju. It isn't an all you can eat spot, but you can't beat the quality. My friend and I decided to try the prime beef and the marinated pork ribs (which is their speciality). Both meats were very delicious. They pretty much cook your food for you. The beef was cut into nice cubes. They were cooked at a perfect medium rare. The prok ribs were also cut into pieces, as well. There was a good selection of 10 types of banchan: fishcake (eomuk bokkeum), sesame broccoli, kimchi, potato salad, cucumber kimchi (sigeumchi-namul), stir-fried glass noodles (japchae), korean spinach, pickled onions, bean sprouts (kongnamul), pancake (yachaejeon), and radish kimchi (kkakdugi) . And honestly, this spot has one of the better quality banchan sides. The japchae had so much flavor, and the potato salad was also good. I appreciated that they offered the pickled onions, which goes really well with the marinated pork. My friend was also excited that they had korean spinach, which most places don't have at all. We also ordered the red pepper paste soup. It was so good! Rick and full of flavor. There's enough seating for 2-6 people to each table. It's not too big of a spot, so if you're trying to get away from the long lined spots - this is the spot to be. Service is quick and friendly. There is free parking in the lot if you're lucky. If not, you can find free street parking.“

“My wife is Korean, and we have dined in all the top Korean places in Los Angeles and Seoul for over 20 years. AB Steak delivers high end versions of traditional Korean classics. The quality of the meat is superior to that of most Korean restaurants, from the melt in your mouth A5 like kkotsal to the marinated short ribs. The egg “soufflé” gyeranjjim has a light cheese sauce and more flavor than typical. Moving perfectly cooked medium rare meat from the grill to a cast iron warmer keeps the meat warm while preventing over cooking is a great idea. Service is capable and friendly.“

“After seeing some vids about how great the mul naeng myun is here, I had to come try with my family. My sister and I got the mul naeng myun and my grandma got the sagol dduk mandu guk (ox bone soup with rice cake and dumplings). The broth of the naeng myun was clear and crisp, but a little bland, I had to put in a lot of the mustard paste and vinegar to increase the flavor. Overall, I liked the thinness and texture of the noodles, but the flavor of the soup was nothing too out of the ordinary. The banchan though... deserves a standing ovation. The side dishes were fresh, well seasoned, and Korean grandma approved. I think I preferred my grandma's rice cake soup to my naeng myun, but I would be willing to come back and try their other dishes. We got a pajeon (chive pancake) on the side as well, which was crispy and came with a lovely soy sauce on the side. The waitresses were also very attentive and kind. The restaurant was nearly empty when we walked in for a late lunch on a weekday. Overall a great experience :)“

Staff was very friendly and we were told our food will take 10-15 mins to prepare due to the delicate and meticulous nature of preparation and honestly didn't mind. Can't rush good quality meal! “This place was recommended to us by a local business owner in the district. We were going to go somewhere else but she recommended this as the best. We parked down the street for only $5 and walked a couple blocks. We arrived at 5pm on a Saturday and the wait was only 30 minutes. They had a nice warm tent to wait in and plenty of shopping around, and a bar for a drink while you wait. The service was fast and not chatty (perfect). The beef was excellent and the pork too, although beef was better. My favorite was the ribeye and short ribs. We ordered the large combo for 2 of us and ate it all! The side dishes were a little unusual (and sweet!) but delicious otherwise. Pricey but you get what you pay for. I would go back again! My only complaint was they need stronger vents to suck up the smoke, it kept blowing in my face and i had to move.“

Sign me up!If you're lazy like me, Hae Jang Chon is the perfect place where you, or the ahjummas (Korean aunties) can cook for you, without compromising quality and taste. Their menu is straight to the point without all the bells and whistles of the other Korean barbecues. That's right, there's no rotating different banchans of the day, or any of that red wine-marinated meat nonsense. But what they do offer on their more simplified menu, they do extremely well.Their steamed egg and soybean paste soup both hit the spot. This is also the first place l've seen where you can order whole kimchi pancakes to put on the grill.Some of my favorite meats are the Prime steak and Beef brisket.Make sure to order some Bulgogi at the end, because they can even make Mozzarella cheese kimchi fried rice with the bulgogi mixed in for you at your table.For dinner and weekends, it's $44 per person, but service is impeccable and we barely had to pick up our own tongs to cook and could just enjoy our meal.Thanks for reading! ^-^“

“Chicken katsu was great, big portion, tender chicken, came with a pretty and delicious salad and the curry was also very good. It was totally worth the price. Takoyaki was one of the best I've eaten. The portion is also generous and there were definitely big chunks of Tako inside the balls. Presentation was very pretty too. However my lemon roll was not as good as the other dishes. The spicy tuna was overly spicy and it took away the flavor of the entire dish. The size surprised me positively though, it was much bigger than rolls in other places. The fish was fresh and the proportion with rice was good too. I would definitely come back.“

“Joseon is an excellent choice for a great date night in Silverlake, Los Angeles. The "less is more" ambiance is favorable, the music is not loud so conversations come easier, the staff is attentive, and the food is pretty special. The name gives the impression of a golden era of Korean dining, and an experience designed for royalty, and we definitely felt that throughout the night. My partner and I started with a cocktail/mocktail because they sounded unique (and they were). We ordered a 7 course and a 5 course, thinking that we could try to get a good variety when there were two options for some of the courses. We opted for wine flight pairing as well, and were surprised how well selected the options were. I'd recommend that a party of 2 orders the same number of courses, however, because we didn't always both get a course. We shared about everything though, so it ended up being fine. Also, knowing the process to expect for a 7 course meal will make a difference in how you appreciate the timing. Courses are spaced out by anywhere from 15-25 minutes, so expect to be in the restaurant for at least 2-2/12 hours, or more. We were at our table for just short of 3 hours, but we also talked with the staff a bit while enjoying an espresso with dessert. This kind of timing, in this context, is a good thing, because it means that the kitchen doesn't have a bunch of plates being pre-made then waiting to be delivered by wait staff who also have other tables to attend to. The chef freshly prepares each dish for your specific table, and then it's presented immediately. That makes for a top quality dining experience, where each of these dishes was not only a work of art but also presented for enjoyment, just as the chef and their team intends. We enjoyed the 7 courses! I think our favorite was the Braised Stew with Sea Bass, and the Rice Cake dish with Zucchini Blossom. The Sea Trout Tartare was also a nice way to start the meal. The aromas coming off many of those dishes was memorable. The dessert they brought wasn't on the menu, and came complementary for us, I don't know if they typically charge for dessert. One was some fresh cantaloupe with a special sweet sauce (they called it a palate cleanser), and one was an amazing rice pudding creme brûlée, it was an outstanding way to finish our evening. We will be back, next time we'll make it a double date!“
