“Just completed a tour of the Central Texas Barbecue Scene. Visited Snow's BBQ-Lexington, Louie Mueller-Taylor, Kreus Market, Smitty's and Black's-Lockhart, The Salt Lick- Driftwood and Franklin's in Austin. It was great seeing the venues and the family history at these historic sites. I visited Franklin's in the past and felt it was the best brisket I had ever eaten in my life. I am a skeptic when it comes to famous barbecue joints. I must say that Franklin's BBQ was far superior to all of the restaurants I visited with no one even a close second. Aaron's attention to detail from the service, choice of briskets, the cook, the wrap, the holding and even the slicing of the final product is evident in every aspect of his trade. I was lucky enough to run into him at the restaurant and he happily talked BBQ with me. Franklin's may not have the long history of muti-generational BBQ in Central Texas, but he has figured it all out at a level that I have yet to see equaled by the best venues in the country. This is a bucket list restaurant for those who really enjoy BBQ. It is well worth the wait in line“

“Excellent brisket and that chimichuri sausage was delicious. Big shout out to Ryan our fellow North Carolinian, for such gracious hospitality. Wish we were around for the pimento cheese sausage. Thanks for making our trip to Austin worth it!“

“Brisket was solid- one of the better ones in town for the price. Very solid pulled lamb was available and pork ribs top notch- just a bit more seasoning balance would be good. Sides were excellent, especially the slaw and green chile grits. Great value bbq on this side of town!“

“For our 101st 'cue stop in Texas, we stopped by this food truck on a Saturday morning. It was not at all busy, in sharp contrast to several of the other outlets in the court. We laid out $43.40 to purchase 2 biscuits with brisket and smoked strawberry jam. We added hash browns to each order ( 2 wedges per order). Although the biscuit was quite dry, the brisket was well prepared, and the smoked strawberry jam a real treat. But no plastic utensils were supplied, so we ended up scooping the jam up with our fingers. Bring your own utensils with you if you choose to visit! We're glad we came, but the price point struck us as very, very high for what we received-- too high for our wallets to absorb a second time.“

“From the patient staff to the patient person smoking the meat, this place does everything right!! Just like you can't rush a good smoke, you shouldn't rush a customer and the guys behind the counter helped each customer with patience, laughter and knowledge. We got it all!! First time in Austin and first BBQ in Texas so we wanted a baseline to compare all other to! At this time, it's gonna be rough for anybody to compare, everything we ate was solid!! The Beef Rib is melt in your mouth, fall off the bone, perfect meat fat ratio, smokey delicious goodness and completely stole the show! The other meats are great with that tender smoked goodness but the beef rib is where it's at! We tried three sides as well and the Mexican Corn is off the chain delicious! Smokey, spicey, creamy and addicting! Black's has been doing this for 90 years and it shows, everything was the best! We'll be back and highly recommend you skip the lines at the other places and head over to The Original Blacks!“

“The ribs... I'll say it again, the ribs... Are amazing. The glaze, the cook, the subtle heat, these are firmly in my top 3 racks in Austin. The owner is super nice, former TB pitmaster now running this trailer. The fiends elote is a great flavor fusion and pairs well with all the protein on the menu. The sausage, is also in my top 3 in Austin. Great sized, juicy, flavor packed and my perfect texture and consistency. The brisket was good too, great cook on it, great flavor, and stood alone as a main. There's no doing I'll be back. The service was friendly, food top notch, and the flavor profile something different that requires you to try it.“

“Had bbq in Austin that's very tender, but lacks flavor? Me too. Cooper's BBQ has flavor! Cole slaw and cornbread are great too. But the beef ribs and brisket!!! Staff is friendly and fun. It feels like a locals spot. Jim (bartender) introduced us to almost the entire staff on our first visit. Cannot wait to eat here again.“

“been 3 times, first time was DANK, 2nd time was tragic, 3rd time was DANK. Hit or miss and I also feel based on timing, gf loves the mac and cheese, brisket is solid but the fat option is very fatty, i would go lean, depends on the day but on the right day this place is good“

“I got a brisket and jalapeño sausage sandwich. It was big and the best bbq sandwich I’ve had in a long time. I wish I took a photo.
The brisket was moist. The bread was great and the sauce really complimented the meat without taking over the flavor.
I’ll have to go back very soon to try more.“

“Romantic atmosphere- if you don’t find brisket, ribs, and sausage smoking on on pit romantic then you don’t know what love is. Large portions- first off this is TEXAS, and TEXAS BBQ no dainty offerings at this place. Scenic view- location, location, location classic views of downtown Austin and all it has to offer. This trailer sits in the heart of Congress Ave. You can sit and people watch for hours and you never know what or who you will see. Classic cocktails- for the few that get to know the pit master you might get invited into the trailer where he will educate you about his passion for BBQ, and offer you a classic whiskey shot. Again only for the few lucky ones! Big Vinnys BBQ by pit master Brian Miller one of my weekly stops and sometimes more than once in a week.“

“I had planned on eating at Franklin's at first before heading home back to DFW from Austin. But found out they were closed on Mondays. Then went by Terry Black's but line was too long. Also, remembered that I wasn't that impressed with Dallas location. I looked up other bbq places. Saw that Bird Dog Pit was close by. So glad I went there. The service was awesome. The food was absolutely AMAZING!!! I had 2 meat plate (moist sliced brisket & turkey & double hatch mac'n'cheese). Both were moist as hell & perfect amount of smoke and seasoning. That was the best mac'n'cheese I've ever had from a bbq place. I'm eating there every time I drive through Austin. This place most definitely gives places like Franklin's & Terry Black's a run for their money. They would even give places like Hard Eight & Goldee's & Hutchins & Original Roy Hutchins here in DFW a run for their money. Keep it up...“

“There are many barbecue chains in Austin, but Rudy’s is the best. All their barbecue meats are excellent, but their sides are really special. I and particularly love the creamed corn, which sometimes is enough to get me to go here instead of another barbecue place. Their green chili stew is also excellent, and I think it’s made from brisket and chicken along with some vegetables and chilies. The potato salad is very good, as is the three bean salad. They have a fun hand washing machine that shoots out jets of whirling soapy, water, that is probably not as effective as just washing your hands with soap and water, but kids like it, and It’s probably better than getting barbecue sauce all over the handles of the sink from peoples greasy hands! Is Rudy’s as good as a place like Franklin? Definitively not, but you also don’t have to wait in line for three hours, and if you feel like getting barbecue at 9:30 in the evening, Rudy’s will be open, where is Franklin will probably have been closed for six hours already. Despite the fact that it’s a chain, they have still maintained their quality.
Vegetarian options: Obviously, this is not the place for vegetarians, unless they really like white bread, and pickles.“

“I have to admit Kelsey is the best! thank you so much for your great customer service and letting us sample the difference between brisket moist and brisket lean. That was new to our understanding of different types of brisket. She and her staff were friendly, they served us hearty portions of the value package meal we had ordered, the tea was fantastic not overly sweet and not too sour. Well made tea. Oh and that inhouse made sauce omgoodness it was delicious I skipped out on the bbq sauce and just had me that sauce Lol! If y'all in that area and haven't tried Texas Traditional BBQ, its a must you will not regret. affordable, delicious and good people. Made our evening delightful ☺️ Thanks again Kelsey! God bless y'all!“

“This place is legit. Always has been. I’ll put their brisket up with any Instagram place in town. Bbq quality everywhere always fluctuates somewhat based on all the variables, but Whole Foods bbq is solid always. Sometimes it’s amazing. Much better than 3.5 stars on Google.“

“Went here with a friend before seeing a show at Empire and wow…what a great first impression. Our server was super attentive. She gave us a moment to decide just how hungry we were and when it was time to order the food came out super fast. Live music is often there on weekends and from what I saw online a Sunday Gospel Brunch - now that’s soul food!!!!“

“So I've been a shopper of this HEB since 2019. I came in llooking for the noodles and Danielle came over asking if I needed help. She offered the turkey and brisket, which I've order it before and it was awful! Danielle said she made it so I ordered the turkey. It was the best turkey I've ever had!! I went back and ordered more turkey and some brisket from her. I highly recommend coming on days when she is the pit master!!! She knows what she is doing and this is what this true texas needs!“
