“Just completed a tour of the Central Texas Barbecue Scene. Visited Snow's BBQ-Lexington, Louie Mueller-Taylor, Kreus Market, Smitty's and Black's-Lockhart, The Salt Lick- Driftwood and Franklin's in Austin. It was great seeing the venues and the family history at these historic sites. I visited Franklin's in the past and felt it was the best brisket I had ever eaten in my life. I am a skeptic when it comes to famous barbecue joints. I must say that Franklin's BBQ was far superior to all of the restaurants I visited with no one even a close second. Aaron's attention to detail from the service, choice of briskets, the cook, the wrap, the holding and even the slicing of the final product is evident in every aspect of his trade. I was lucky enough to run into him at the restaurant and he happily talked BBQ with me. Franklin's may not have the long history of muti-generational BBQ in Central Texas, but he has figured it all out at a level that I have yet to see equaled by the best venues in the country. This is a bucket list restaurant for those who really enjoy BBQ. It is well worth the wait in line“

“In the land of bbq KG stands out like a shining star! We watched Kareem on Bbq showdown and knew we had to go when we realized he was in Austin. We thought it’d be good but it was truly outstanding! We ordered all but 2 meats (my husband forgot the sausage, I was not happy!) everything was amazing, but the standouts were the chicken kabobs, the pomegranate pork ribs and the lamb chop (not usually a lamb fan). The chicken thighs were so moist and flavorful! The flavors of the pom pork rib were so rich and complex and truly unique. The true surprise for both of us was the lamb chop; tender, juicy and full of savory flavor. Rounding out our meal was the Egyptian Mac and cheese which had there not been so much delicious meat would have been a top fave, creamy shells with a garlic tomato béchamel with just the right amount of nutmeg. For dessert we tried the rice pudding with crumbles pistachios and hulava on top, something I hated in childhood. The cool, creamy rice pudding had a subtle cardamom flavor and cooled off the mouth after so much Egyptian flavor! Outstanding!!!“

“I tried el loco frito that was really food with right amount of spice with thinly sliced jalapeno. The brisket was good n tender. The mac n cheese was super cheesy. My husband loves the pickled cucumbers and onions. We were not a fan of the potato salad. The taste was horrible. We were able to get a refund. Ribs were okay per my teenage son.“

“So a few years ago my all time favorite bbq place in San Antonio, Snoga's BBQ closed they had the best sausage around... in my life I have always been trying to find someone even close to having sausage that was even close to theirs...Yesterday my best friend was taking a day trip to Austin for work and said she was going to stop at Leroy and Lewis Barbecue place that she came across on the internet...I thought why not...I haven't had bbq in a while... so i sent her some money and told her that i wanted some sliced beef and sausage... so while she was there she raved about the food and how good it is... now she is Kansas City bbq girl...I am Texas bbq guy... so this has always been one of the arguments we have... LOL...well i think she has finally found her texas bbq place... so she brings back my food and i picked it up today... and honestly I think I have found my replacement for sausage it will never top Snoga's but since they are not open anymore they have become my #1 of places that are open for sausage...it was that good... not sure if they make their own or who makes it for them and they smoke it or what but it is amazing!!! Such great flavor to it. The sliced beef was also on point great bark and smoke and just melted in my mouth... now I am not a big sauce guy... but the red sauce had a nice peppery kick... they also have a mustard sauce...I don't typically care for mustard anything... but this one was actually really good... but the star is the pork hop sausage...I am having to stop myself from driving up to Austin again for more of it...LOL!!! So if you live in Austin or want to take a day trip go here is worth the trip...5 stars all the way!!“

“Didn’t get a chance to enjoy their brick and mortar location but did get a chance to dine at the ACL stall. Brisket sandwich was exceptional. Dude hooked up a vegi frito pie on the house as they were shutting down for the night. . Kind gesture and tasty. Perfect laying for a booze filled belly. Great food, great people.“

“For our 101st 'cue stop in Texas, we stopped by this food truck on a Saturday morning. It was not at all busy, in sharp contrast to several of the other outlets in the court. We laid out $43.40 to purchase 2 biscuits with brisket and smoked strawberry jam. We added hash browns to each order ( 2 wedges per order). Although the biscuit was quite dry, the brisket was well prepared, and the smoked strawberry jam a real treat. But no plastic utensils were supplied, so we ended up scooping the jam up with our fingers. Bring your own utensils with you if you choose to visit! We're glad we came, but the price point struck us as very, very high for what we received-- too high for our wallets to absorb a second time.“

“From the patient staff to the patient person smoking the meat, this place does everything right!! Just like you can't rush a good smoke, you shouldn't rush a customer and the guys behind the counter helped each customer with patience, laughter and knowledge. We got it all!! First time in Austin and first BBQ in Texas so we wanted a baseline to compare all other to! At this time, it's gonna be rough for anybody to compare, everything we ate was solid!! The Beef Rib is melt in your mouth, fall off the bone, perfect meat fat ratio, smokey delicious goodness and completely stole the show! The other meats are great with that tender smoked goodness but the beef rib is where it's at! We tried three sides as well and the Mexican Corn is off the chain delicious! Smokey, spicey, creamy and addicting! Black's has been doing this for 90 years and it shows, everything was the best! We'll be back and highly recommend you skip the lines at the other places and head over to The Original Blacks!“

“The ribs... I'll say it again, the ribs... Are amazing. The glaze, the cook, the subtle heat, these are firmly in my top 3 racks in Austin. The owner is super nice, former TB pitmaster now running this trailer. The fiends elote is a great flavor fusion and pairs well with all the protein on the menu. The sausage, is also in my top 3 in Austin. Great sized, juicy, flavor packed and my perfect texture and consistency. The brisket was good too, great cook on it, great flavor, and stood alone as a main. There's no doing I'll be back. The service was friendly, food top notch, and the flavor profile something different that requires you to try it.“

“I flew in from Virginia to find these guys and was so glad to catch some of the last bbq before they closed! They recommended the tomahawk chops and I added a beef hot link and have never had anything like it. It was phenomenal. The chop was the best pork bbq I have had in Texas! I can wait to get back and try more of the menu. Thanks Xavier!“

“Romantic atmosphere- if you don’t find brisket, ribs, and sausage smoking on on pit romantic then you don’t know what love is. Large portions- first off this is TEXAS, and TEXAS BBQ no dainty offerings at this place. Scenic view- location, location, location classic views of downtown Austin and all it has to offer. This trailer sits in the heart of Congress Ave. You can sit and people watch for hours and you never know what or who you will see. Classic cocktails- for the few that get to know the pit master you might get invited into the trailer where he will educate you about his passion for BBQ, and offer you a classic whiskey shot. Again only for the few lucky ones! Big Vinnys BBQ by pit master Brian Miller one of my weekly stops and sometimes more than once in a week.“
“Food was amazing and made with love. I got a rack of pork ribs and a two meat plate sausage and chicken. Prices were great for bbq. Portions were large and food was fresh and delicious. Definitely recommend and will be eating at often since i live up the road. They do take card as well.“

“I have to admit Kelsey is the best! thank you so much for your great customer service and letting us sample the difference between brisket moist and brisket lean. That was new to our understanding of different types of brisket. She and her staff were friendly, they served us hearty portions of the value package meal we had ordered, the tea was fantastic not overly sweet and not too sour. Well made tea. Oh and that inhouse made sauce omgoodness it was delicious I skipped out on the bbq sauce and just had me that sauce Lol! If y'all in that area and haven't tried Texas Traditional BBQ, its a must you will not regret. affordable, delicious and good people. Made our evening delightful ☺️ Thanks again Kelsey! God bless y'all!“

I plan to hit this place up every 3rd weekend. They changed my mind about BBQ sandwiches and I'm thankful they did!“

“There are many barbecue chains in Austin, but Rudy’s is the best. All their barbecue meats are excellent, but their sides are really special. I and particularly love the creamed corn, which sometimes is enough to get me to go here instead of another barbecue place. Their green chili stew is also excellent, and I think it’s made from brisket and chicken along with some vegetables and chilies. The potato salad is very good, as is the three bean salad. They have a fun hand washing machine that shoots out jets of whirling soapy, water, that is probably not as effective as just washing your hands with soap and water, but kids like it, and It’s probably better than getting barbecue sauce all over the handles of the sink from peoples greasy hands! Is Rudy’s as good as a place like Franklin? Definitively not, but you also don’t have to wait in line for three hours, and if you feel like getting barbecue at 9:30 in the evening, Rudy’s will be open, where is Franklin will probably have been closed for six hours already. Despite the fact that it’s a chain, they have still maintained their quality.
Vegetarian options: Obviously, this is not the place for vegetarians, unless they really like white bread, and pickles.“
