John and Nyna Weatherson, along with their entire team, created a truly special experience from start to finish. We enjoyed the four-course prix fixe menu with the wine pairing, and every course was outstanding. The food was creative, beautifully presented, and most importantly, absolutely delicious. The wine pairings were spot on and really complemented each dish.

What stood out just as much as the food was the hospitality. Everyone made us feel welcome, and the personalized anniversary touches were greatly appreciated.

Truckee is fortunate to have a restaurant of this caliber. If you’re looking for a memorable dinner, special occasion, or just an amazing meal, Trokay is worth every penny.

“Absolutely LOVE this spot!! We ordered a large of the sashimi selection, the pot of gold, negitoro maki, and I think the bluebird roll, and everything was divine! Of course my favorite was the o toro, but everything was spot on. The service was very friendly and quick and the outdoor seating was nice. From the outside it looks like a fast food sushi spot, but I was really impressed by the presentation and quality of the food as well as the overall service. Will definitely return!”

“The pizza is delicious but they are not prepared for multiple customers. We were told our pizza would be ready for pick up in 20 minutes. When we arrived, we waited an additional 75 minutes for our order. We had to ask for updates since that information wasn't forthcoming while we waited.”

“We had breakfast 6/01 and were very pleased to see vegan options. Avocado toast and Gravity Bowl were both delicious, although highly recommend adding a side of crispy potatoes to the bowl. Produce was extremely fresh and presentation was delightful. We had Jay as our server and he was superb, really made our experience so much more pleasant than our visits to the 3 previous restaurants we have visited in Truckee during our stay. Jay was pleasantly chatty and made sure we always had water and coffee, checked on us just the right number of times—felt our business was appreciated but not at all intrusive. A very welcoming experience!”

I got the peach salad with grilled chicken, which tasted delicious! The portions were a little smaller than I would have liked for the price, but it was a great portion for a smaller lunch salad. Would definitely recommend going there, especially eating outside and absorbing the atmosphere.”

“Great service! We were able to sit in the dining room near the fireplace. My favorite ! It set the stage for a night of lovely ambiance and great food! We had lovely Cocktails served promptly. We omitted appetizers. Hubby had the steak and frites and a salad. All was excellent . I started with a cup of the Greek Lemon soup. Delicious! This was followed by the Thai Shrimp. Sooooo yummy! Spicy and so full of flavor! I had to share with Hubby and he loved it too. It was a very generous portion. We shared the sorbet selection which was a refreshing end to a lovely date night at the Lodge! Thanks to all our servers and staff. Our compliments to the Chef and his crew!”

“I was searching for food that was not crowded, admittedly I was overwhelmed by the weekenders that flock from all over cities that were crammed in the shopping district. I spotted a church building with a small sign that said, cafe open, as I was making my way out of town with haste. Alas, I found exactly what I needed. Score, big time. It is a beautiful, tranquil space, and the sandwich I had, Ban mi (add turkey)...beyond exquisite. The lavender drink concoction was eloquent and refreshing. Go here for a zen delicious af meal and very nice service.”

“Located right off the exit with plenty of parking, which made it super convenient to stop by. The place has a cozy feel with a mix of bar seating and regular tables that work well for couples or small groups. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the wait wasn’t bad at all.

We ordered the Family Tradition Calzone and really enjoyed it. The Alfredo fettuccine was tasty too, though I personally would’ve liked a bit more sauce since it was slightly on the dry side.

Portion sizes felt fair for the price, and overall we left happy. Kind of wish we had come with a bigger group or a bigger appetite so we could’ve tried more from the menu. Would definitely recommend checking this place out if you’re in Truckee.”

“Gourmet pizza! We love coming here whenever we are in town. Family owned business and the owner is a wonderful person. We had the pleasure to meet him 3 winters ago. I am so glad how this place gets more and more popular!!

Taste and ingredients are great. The temperature control on the pizza is on point. Price on root beer is so good! Can’t beat that.
One thing to note, it does take long time to get the pizza, if you are in a rush, you can either call ahead to order or try this place when you have time to enjoy. It took us about 45mins to get our pizza a few weeks ago.

They have indoor and outdoor seating! How relaxing.”

“I got the 1/2 tritip plate with coleslaw and rice with tortillas. Very tasty and fills you up. My daughter got the 1/2 chicken (which is literally half of a chicken) with coleslaw and rice with garlic bread and she brought half home. it was all tasty.”

“I went in yesterday with an omelet in mind when I saw corned beef hash on the menu. When I ordered it, the waitress asked "canned or fresh?" That was an easy choice, fresh! It was perfect homemade hash and even contained some green pepper. The best that I have had in years! I ordered it with sliced tomatoes and was in seventh heaven. Can't wait to return. The wait staff were the best too.”

Surrounded by towering Sierra Nevada pines, the setting felt serene, cozy, and quintessentially Tahoe.

The meat burger was perfectly done — juicy, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. My son absolutely loved the chocolate and strawberry ice cream, which was a delightful treat.

Amazing. Ignore the whiner reviews because this is one of the best coffee shops you could ask for and it's still relatively new, too. I like that Mountain Brew doesn't force you to listen to music. Re: wifi -use your hot spot or ask a local if you could use theirs. As for the cost, if you want first-rate food, beverages, and fair wages, the prices are totally reasonable.

The quality of everything, from coffee drinks to bagel plates to breakfast burritos, was fantastic! We wish we had a
Mountain Brew in Ben Lomond, and we're jealous of Truckee residents who have this fabulous coffee shop in their town.”

“I don't normally write reviews, but I had to this time. The Truckee food scene is modest at best. Most restaurants range from bad to mediocre, with a few notable exceptions, such as The Drunken Monkey and Moody's. Last year I would have included the Dining Room at Village Lodge in the "perfectly fine" category.But my wife and I went to dinner there last night (Jan 2024), and it was immediately clear that something had changed. The service was attentive and the menu was inspired. Andrew did a great job as our waiter. Before even ordering, I said to my wife that they must have a new chef, and indeed they do! It's made all the difference.I ordered the duck, my wife had the halibut, and we shared the steak tartare. It was all delicious. We paired it with a French Sancerre for an impeccable meal. Truly fine dining at a reasonable (by Tahoe standards) price.I should note that we were skiing earlier that day, and prior to dinner had a wonderful time getting to know some of the staff at the bar. We spent the night upstairs at the lodge (cute room), and the next morning had an equally good breakfast and equally good service from Bella. Also, they've put in a coffee bar right by the fireplace between the bar and the dining area. It's a nice place to warm up after a few runs.Highly recommended and worth the short drive up from Truckee.”
