No where in the check out process do they tell you this. This seems excessive for 6 utensil packs and 5 takeout containers. Many other BBQ places with similar price points do not charge this fee. If you are going to charge extra fees be up front about it.“

“Had dinner with a friend tonight who had read somewhere that Jack Stack had pork chops for a short time so we both ordered them. They were thick and juicy and exquisitely seasoned. We shared a molten lava brownie ala mode that was to die for. To make our dinner even better, our server was friendly and had a great sense of humor responding to my friend's teasing.“

“Amazing BBQ joint in NKC. The atmosphere is perfectly BBQ, wooden tables, BBQ theme decor, and almost a picnic feel. The tables are set with their 3 sauces (regular, spicy, and their take on a Carolina style), plus smoked ketchup. We tried the two meat platter: sliced sausage, burnt ends, Buffalo slaw, burnt end chili, plus Texas toast; and the brisket sandwich, which is my go to on a first visit. Everything was amazing! The brisket was sliced thin, not too thin, and not fatty at all. The burnt end chili was so full of flavor, and the slaw/beans were great. Hawg Jaw is definitely going in our rotation.“

“The pork rib choice on the combo plate were delicious, very tender and fell off the bone. The fried mushrooms as an appetizer is a great choice as they are very big. The smoked salmon salad offered a nice salmon portion that had great taste. Our server Scott, did a great job on tending to our dining experience.“

“I was looking for something different and the brisket Rangoon caught my eye on line and brought me in. The thought of bbq thai fusion was intriguing. I was greeted immediately but was on my own so opted to sit at the bar. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the menu, the food and the business. I told her I had come in for the rangoon and told her I didn’t want straight Thai or straight BBQ but to pick anything she would recommend. I told her I have a high heat tolerance, no weird food allergies and like just about everything. She chose the red curry burnt ends with steamed rice. The manager joined us and we all had great conversation about the food, food in general and their sister restaurant Muni in the River Market. Food, service, presentation and atmosphere were all fantastic. All of the recommendations were spot on. I look forward to my next opportunity.“

Lindsay Shannon was the best!!New ownership and patio renovations wanted to go back to check it out. 3 headed out for lunch on a Thursday. WOW. 2 of us had The Daily Special Texas Sweet (Pulled Pork, Scimecas Italian Sausage, Onion Straws piked high on huge bun. 1 SIDE. I had some green beans son had some of the huge famous beer battered potato wedges. Hot, fresh, tasty for $11.99. Both of us took decent amount home as well. Been too long and we'll be headed back soon. Staff was amazing and accomodating!! Do yourself a favor and check out this longtime BBQ staple. Hat Tipped BB's...“

“Great food on this visit. Everything was flavorful waiter was attentive. While my 2 visits to burnt ends were good had a freind who was with me on my visit go back and had diffrent experience food not as good and staff not as helpful in fact they were antagonistic. My point for bringing this up is that experience can be inconsistent here so my positive experience might not reflect yours but I would recommend giving them the benefit of the doubt because when they hit they hit they hit it out of the park.“

“Best of the best! Smoked turkey is in point and if you like pastrami you HAVE to get thier smoked pastrami on seeded rye w saurkraut and mustard.....omg! It's the bbq version of a rueban sandwich and let me tell ya...it's a game changer! 1 sandwich is Enough for 2 people...or 2 meals if you don't want to share :) The manager was so kind, he brought our service dog a bowl of water while we ate. The server and bartender were amazing...

“We pre ordered for takeout and was asked if we would like to pick up through the Drive Through. The young lady that took my order over the phone was very friendly and professional she asked our name and what time would we be there for our order. I arrived on time and during my pick-up I notice my order that was given to me was very light, after going inside, I meet the manger on shift Bailey who was very professional in handling the mixup of my order/food and in turn helped make my experience extremely positive and enjoyable! The customer service I was given was exceptional and we will definitely be returning in the near future. Thank you Bailey!“

“I cannot always eat the meats most of my family does due to dietary restrictions, but I will tell you. This was the HANDS DOWN most tender, melt in my mouth beef brisket that I have had in years. Even the chicken was moist! The server we had was personable and handled the whole knack half the restaurant well even when it got slammed. We were in to visit our son from Rochester NY, and I can honestly say that nothing we have had there since moving there in 2017, is even comparable.“

“Was in town visiting and I heard good things about Gates back in Chicago, so I had to try them out. Stoped in before heading to the Saints vs Chiefs game. Ordered the turkey on a bun w/fries and lemonade. The turkey was good, the fries were fresh out the grease, but they don’t season the fries, you have to salt them yourself. The total was like $20 so a bit pricey. The sauce has a sweet but spicy taste to it.“

“This is EASILY the best barbeque I've ever had. I don't think Gates can make bad food. Every single piece of meat in the box was immaculately seasoned, the pickled onions and pickles were DELICIOUS, abd the bread at the bottom sealed the deal for me. Since it was my first time, the staff helped me tremendously while ordering, and gave us extra sauce for the food. EVERY time I'm in KC, I will be eating here. I've already recommended Gates Bar-B-Q to every single person who goes near Kansas City, and I will not stop until Gates seasonings reach local grocery shelves out here on the east coast.“

“Better late than never! I came in town for the weekend and we ordered this to go. Our order that was placed but wasn't pushed through the Doordash app prior to them cleaning up. The manager and their staff took extra time to help us get what we ordered, boxed it up, and did it with a smile on their face the entire time. TRUE CUSTOMER SERVICE! And the meats were cooked to perfection!

“One of my favorite bbq places in KC for 40 years. Best sauce in town. Very reasonably priced compared to most others. Definitely not fancy, but that's not what they're going for. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely for me 😀 Combo sandwich and fries or a mixed plate is my choice for lunch but they have good ribs and turkey too! Decent pork tenderloin and I've heard (but haven't tried) the shrimp are fantastic.“

“I had a terrible experience trying to use Uber Eats to get food delivered. Totally not Arthur Bryant’s fault. With all of the issues I had on an order that was well over $100, an employee (maybe manager) named Ontario, was the absolute hero of the day! I cannot say enough about how he took care of us despite Uber’s issue with their system. Long story short, our order was for dinner the previous night, but he was able to honor the order the next day for lunch. He treated us like we were royalty. The rest of the staff were friendly and personable. They definitely have the “hole in the wall”/dive vibe, and I am here for it. It’s authentic. Regarding the food. If I’m being honest the brisket was mid, which was disappointing as I love brisket. Maybe an off day. But I digress. The ribs were by far the best ribs I have ever had in my life. Zero exaggeration. The burnt ends were so tender and full of flavor. The sliced sausage was unlike anything I’ve had before. The onion rings were onion rings, not much more to say about them. Definitely solid. The cheesy corn was divine. What a great addition to a great meal. If I were to go back next time I’m in KC, I’m getting Cheesy corn, ribs, and ends. They get all the stars I have to give and Ontario should get all of the raises and promotions available.“

“Gates has always been a great place for some original KC Bar-B-Q! The meat is good and tender with just the right amount of flavor. The side dishes are wonderful. Whenever I want BBQ, it is always Gates. You are always greeted right when you walk in the door with, "HI! May I help you?" The price is right for BBQ this good. If you have never had it, then stop in and get some. You won't be disappointed!“
