“I use to live at 66 Rutgers, Umi was the best place for Sushi. Every evening after school, me and ma would spend our money on Sushi. I always get Spicy Crab Meat and it was perfect. It’s not too spicy but was just enough to satisfy your taste buds. The atmosphere was calm and collected, unless you place an order ahead of time, it can take about 30 minutes, but for me, the wait was worth it. In fact, for how long I went there for sushi, I forgot they also served wings. I didn’t get them personally, but I heard great things about them. If you’re in the area of Bayonne, this is a definite must see“

“Ordered off Uber eats. Wonton soup, fried rice, mango Tuna roll, and jalapeño shrimp tempura roll. 10/10. I'm a critic on wonton soup, it was perfect. Fried rice was tasty, I'd definitely order it again. The rolls were so fresh, and added a little extra something I haven't seen in other places. The fact that it was this good delivery, I'm sure it's even better eating in house. Will be a repeat customer for sure.“

“Great omakase for $70! The last course which was the banana unagi dessert was surprisingly a pleasant pairing. But the course felt too fast-paced (which makes sense for NYC) - I wish I had more time to fully appreciate the experience of each bite.“

“Put this place on the map!!!! A tried a true, best of the best, MUST go to spot when visiting (or living in) NYC. No exaggeration, my boyfriend and I haven’t stopped talking about this place since we visited last year. We’ll finally be back in town next month and are beyond excited to be dining with them again. Did we book a trip just to eat here!? Maybe… probably… because seriously, this place is exceptional. The owner is the sweetest, most delightful human with an incredible story and the food/service is an unmatched experience. Plus, you simply can’t beat their affordable omakasi prices…but the bigger bonus??? BYOB. Bring your wine, bring your tequila, bring neither or bring both. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a party in the most intimate sense. I never write reviews, but Sushi YOLO is a 10/10, so please, do yourself a favor and go see them before they earn that Michelin Star!“

“The food was wonderful and the ambiance lovely. The service pretty attentive and cheerful. But the desserts were overpriced and not worth it. Try the udon noodle with mushroooms. . yumm.“

“I recently had the omakase at Kaki, and it was an amazing experience! For $75, you get 15 delicious bites, each crafted with care and attention to detail. The quality was top-notch, and every piece was flavorful and fresh.
One highlight is that they offer free house sake with your meal, which was a great complement to the sushi. On top of that, the restaurant accepts BYOD, making it even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and the food was so good that I’ll definitely be coming back for more!“

“I’m late in posting my review. I visited Thirteen Water on May 18, 2024 and it easily became my favorite omakase experience considering the cost, quality, and creativity. Every piece honestly made me want to dance it was so good! If I was a local, I’d visit them regularly. They really set my expectations high for all omakases. Turns out I have a hobby; an expensive hobby. Omakase. But with the base price of $75, it simply means I can spend more on add-ons ?. I can’t wait to revisit!“

“Hidden gem on the LES. 14 course omakase for $89 that rivals competitors at twice the price. Chef Jeff was friendly and engaging, like speaking to an old friend as he gave insight on each ingredient. Ngiri was delicious, top notch fish prepared right in front of you. Favorites include shaved truffle over toro (sublime), buttery hamachi, amazing amberjack, and their signature caviar/uni/toro over milkbread (heaven in one bite). They offered free sake shot and mochi dessert. Beautiful space as well right on Eldridge near Houston. We are definitely coming back.“

Jackie was our waitress she was pretty cool too. She bought the food out nice and hot and kept the drinks coming. Must say my son was super impressed and happy. Thank you for making my sons day a special one.“

Service is superb!! We love sommelier Meagan’s recommendations (from l’abeille to Sushi Ichimura) … yum yum yum“

“Fuku Omakase was an absolute blast! Not only was it the best tasting Omakase I ever had, but the cozy, intimate setting makes it so special. The chef adds so much fun with his personal touch and the hosts never let your glass go dry with their BYOB making the whole night even better. I’d give it 1,000,000 stars if I could—totally unforgettable!“

“Typically Omakase restaurants are very formal and proper. I planned, we walked in and what a great time. We laughed with all and they gave us free drinks.
Food prep was done with artistically done.
Want to experience a fun Omakase, stop in“

“Aesthetically the place is unassuming, just based on how it looks from the outside I might not have chosen it but because of the good reviews we went and it was so worth it. The shoyu ramen was one of the best I’ve had and the tempura shrimp appetizer was also delicious. Our server was lovely. Would definitely go again.“

“They want to make you happy, and do a lot to show it. Dishes we tried included the caviar dumplings (juicy, wonderfully contrasting flavors, fantastic sauce) short ribs (falliing-off-the- bone tender) and great hand rollls and unagi don. Things got a little busy, and they came up to apologize for unagi main dish being delayed, and plated a free roll. Not necessary, not sought, but appreciated. Even the synthetic maple tree, with its foliage forward orange leaves, looked great.“

“Fantastic omakase experience with great value for money! The ingredients were incredibly fresh. I especially liked the sweet shrimp and scallops. Not to mention the foi gras with salmon combination.
Miso soup at the middle of the omakase was great - perfect for a warming break to prepare for a second round of sushi. If I have to pick any fault... The dessert ice cream was mediocre.“

“It's a nice little place in my neighborhood, and the staff is very amiable. I have been here four times; the menu changes based on fish availability, mainly from Japan, and the chefs' creativity. If you are tired of salmon, try their Salmon from New Zealand: slurp!! I've also been on Mondays, and it was great. The price for the experience is worth it. Perfect for solo dinner. Treat yourself!“

“My favorite sushi spot in NYC. Chef Don is a real artist that makes beautifully delicious sushi. The small intimate space is impeccably appointed yet understated in its beauty. This feels like a Sushi speakeasy. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Chef Don’s UES location is also equally impressive. Treat yourself to NYC’s best sushi experience!“

“Great food, even better staff. So attentive and kind, we felt right at home.
Our server was so attentive that when my girlfriend dropped her chopsticks, he grabbed a new one from the nearest empty table and handed it to her within 15 seconds. Wonderful staff!!
We hope they get omakase back soon in the near future!“

“Lovely place for no frills sushi lunch. It was crowded within minutes of opening. We got seated immediately without a reservation as we came a little after it opened. Everything was timely and delicious. We got lunch specials but were debating bw the mini omakase. Next time we will probably go with mini omakase!“

“Once I found Katsuya, I had a wonderful meal. If you go, walk past Whole Foods, Peloton and a half dozen potted trees. It is upstairs but there is an elevator. I had hamachi carpaccio - best I've very tasted, and the Katsuya roll - also very delicious. My server was lovely and the restaurant is beautiful“

“My favorite omakase place in the city! I feel so lucky that Takeda is in our neighborhood. The high quality dishes are always presented beautifully, and each time we go, we'd be surprised by some special offerings that are so delicious but that we have never tried before (e.g., tiny white shrimp). Chef Takeda and his staff are always friendly, professional, and very informative with each dish that they serve; they'll share the specific prefecture from which the fish is from, and other information such as the season for the fish, and whether they aged it and for how long etc. The environment is calming and you don't hear any outside noise, so we could focus entirely on the culinary experience, and I love that! It is an intimate setting and I thoroughly enjoy watching Chef Takeda craft each dish with meticulous precision. It's definitely a treat to come here!“

“Everything about this place is just perfect. My wife and I went here for dinner on our anniversary. The restaurant itself is beautiful and thoughtfully designed and decorated, and every dish we were served was outstanding. I particularly liked the toro, wagyu, and eel/foie gras nigiri, but there wasn't a single bite I didn't enjoy. To top it all off the staff were incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive. We would highly recommend to anyone!“

“Excellent Omakase, possibly the best "bang for the buck" in NYC for the genre.
Many favorites, but the crescendo of 3 tuna pieces that ends with o toro with caviar and truffles, ikura with lime zest, and the unagi were all note-worthy.
Simply fantastic!“

“This is my new favorite place. The staff is SO nice and the sushi is really great. Some of the best in not only Brooklyn but Manhattan too. It’s inexpensive. My only wishlist item is that they’d add signature rolls but either way, this place is awesome.“

“Simply superb. The fish and shellfish are pristine. The chefs are skilled and approachable. The servers are helpful and gracious. While not “inexpensive,” I believe it’s a value for what is delivered. I’ve been three times—just last night for the first time, I’m sorry to say, since COVID—and each time was exquisite. Beyond highly recommended. A treasure.“

“It was good and straightforward. The pieces were small, lacking rice and they were very thin pieces, like the wagyu and toro. Besides that, the flavors were good. Small intimate setting, tucked under a hotel only seating about 8 people. Great if you’re in a pinch and want a quick omakase for the price.“

“The second appetizer is very smoky, but the beef is a bit oldThe ginger that goes with the sushi is very tender and very good. The sushi rice is a bit sticky. The fat in salmon sushi is very fragrant, and the grilling adds the unique flavor of salmon. The scallops are very sweet, with just a hint of fishy flavorSea urchin sushi The sea urchin is very fresh, but the seaweed is not crispyThe chopped fried onions in the hand rolls were a bit bitter at the end.“
