“We have loved dining at this unique, classy French restaurant in Forest Hills since ir opened, but our appreciation soared 10-fold after holding an 80th birthday party for 50 people on a gorgeous October afternoon. Rebecca provided superb oversight as tasty hors d’oeuvres were passed inside and outside on the tree-shaded couch-lined patio. Our six choices from a list of about 20 included shrimp and grits, pigs in blankets, tuna tartare, tiny bacon baked potatoes, tomato-mozzarella skewers, and mini tacos. Seating was very comfortable for our three-course dinner. Open bar and wine with dinner were included. We brought our own cake, but Tourmaline provided an ice cream sundae bar for the kids and youngs-at-heart. Yvan cooked the prime ribs, salmon and chicken Francese to perfection. The emails pouring in from our guests attest to what an exquisite party it was. We introduced a whole new crowd to our favorite spot!“

“Sat at the bar. Very fair happy hour prices. Dinner was wonderful. The trout with Marcona almonds was the stand out. Desserts were incredible. Our bartender, Alejandro, was so knowledgeable and fun. Went upstairs to the roof top bar after for a nightcap which was equally delightful.“

“This is what we call “fine dining.” We did not reserve the main dining room, as one of our party did not care for prix fixe. We opted for the lounge as you can have from the menu or prix fixe. When you first arrive, you are greeted by a pleasant hat/coat check lady. We arrived early and said we would wait for the other couple and were invited to wait in the intimate cocktail area. The cocktails were superb and served with a house-made cocktail snack. When the guests of the party arrived, we were escorted to the lounge area. An intimate area with about six to eight tables. After being seated and greeted by the head server (maître d' or captain), who explained our options, we all opted for the menu. After looking at all the choices, we decided to split two appetizers. Even though the number of items on each choice was uneven, the server said, “Let me take care of it". And then beautifully presented plates arrived with equal portions. And it only got better from there. The entrées were each explained in detail, including their origins and how they were prepared. I could go on and on. The fish, beef, duck breast, and pork were everything we expected and more. We all commented, maybe the best we have had. The house made desserts were perfect. I had possibly the best cheese plate I have ever had. The entire staff of servers were professionals and enhanced the evening. The most disappointing part of the evening was when a guest entering the dining room (after removing his overcoat) came in dressed in Dockers and a short-sleeve polo. This is an insult to the owner, the chef, and the entire staff at this fine restaurant. But maybe he was an elite or a “special” person. We all said we would be back.“

“A great experience in New York, and certainly our favorite dinner of the entire trip.

We started the evening at the bar with a couple of excellent cocktails made by Alex, along with several small plates to share that immediately set the tone for the night.

It was the last night of their $60 menu, so we decided to give it a try. The value for money was incredible: great ingredients, thoughtful and generous dishes, and plenty of flavor. It was a great way to experience the restaurant’s cuisine.

A special mention to the service as well, which was attentive and professional while still feeling warm and welcoming.

Congratulations to Chef Bastien and the entire team. There is a real identity behind the food and you can feel the passion in every dish. Wishing them all the success for the future.“

“Quiet, tasty, and welcoming service. It earns its star (especially those sauces). The waiter may add some charm and levity even as the kitchen peels their little heirloom tomatoes. Equally solid for birthdays, anniversaries, and getting a nice quiet corner to yourself.

“Nice family restaurant. My first visit & taste of S. African french cuisine. Not too many place can offer good food at a reasonable price. This place does. Service was good. I had the Escargot & Tunisian Sausage. Both good. I like french food, but don't have it often since it's very rich. My hubby enjoyed the broiled Lamb chop. We shared the chocolate mousse torte. It was perfect, not too sweet. The flavors of the meal was spot on. Not overly salted, sweetened nor was there msg like most restaurants these days. Overall, I would go back & recommend this little gem. Our friend, long time patrons of La Baracka, had the AYCE lunch, which they enjoyed.“

“My first time here I had the combo with half chicken salad sandwich and chestnut and mushroom soup. It sounded very earthy, but everything was light and delicate, and very flavorful with well balanced seasonings. My iced Cortado was also very good. The half and half combo made an excellent lunch. It looked like the whole sandwiches were generous portions. Bright and spacious and casual atmosphere.“

“This place is a hidden gem! Every dish we ordered blew us away, the menu is small, but every item on it is curated perfectly. Standouts: the steak tartare was delicious, and the whole chicken was an absolute show-stopper, perfectly cooked, juicy, and elevated even further by the sauce. Dessert sealed the deal for us, the chocolate mousse and rice pudding were both incredible. I don’t even usually like rice pudding, but the texture and flavor were amazing. We’ll be back soon!“

“I DO NOT RECOMMEND. I have been going to Quatorze since the early 1990’s when Mark and Peter were on 79th St. I was thrilled when the restaurant recently moved to my corner at 82nd and 1st Ave. and have always enjoyed dining there. NEVER AGAIN. I just had the most awful in-person experience with a manager, Nino who was rude, dismissive and argumentative. And all I wanted to do was make a reservation. Nino is the complete antithesis of the way the staff at Quatorze treat customers. If this is the person who is now the face of this beloved neighborhood gem, then sadly I will not be back. And that’s a shame. I left a message asking to speak to the owner, Mark, but I guess having to speak to an actual loyal customer who is unhappy is beneath him. UPDATE: I received a call from the owner Mark, who questioned the veracity of my account. Do yourself a favor and steer clear - these are rude, arrogant people who think we’re all just dumb. And the food and service is average at best.“

“Have been to Rampoldi 4 times. It has been an incredibly consistent superb experience. The room is gorgeous, the service is on point, gracious, friendly and excellent. The room is quiet enough and tables separated enough for quiet conversation. Even better when the live music is their pianist and bass player. The food never disappoints . You think you've had branzino before? Not as fresh as this. Whole other experience. The dover sole was pricey but also one of the best we've had anywhere. Veal tonnata was expertly prepared, duck confit was great. Rampoldi has become our go to oasis of class and calm.“
